Chanel’s Latest Collection Inspired by India- Chanel Bombay Express De Chanel Collection

Leave it to Peter Philips to perfectly channel an exotic locale with a simple face powder. For Chanel’s latest cosmetics collection, the creative director of Chanel makeup drew inspiration from India, showcasing a makeup line-up that explored the duality of light and dark.

First seen at the Métiers d’Art fashion show last winter, the colors combine golden tones with inky black, for a play on light and shadows. On the eyes, Philips “intensified the proportions of iconic Indian eye makeup to give it a universal character.” The new Illusion D’Ombre in Mirifique creates an obsidian hue reminiscent of traditional kohl pencils.

The standout from this piece is the Route Des Indes De Chanel, a glistening powder embossed with a design taken from a rare fabric from an Indian-influenced collection created by Gabrielle Chanel in the ’60s. Rounding out the line are a peachy-nude lipstick with subtle golden shimmer and the hybrid silver-and-gold Diwali polish.
