MAC Studio Finish Skin Corrector Pure Orange Review, Swatches

By Linda

Hello Ladies,

Today’s review is about a product which I wasn’t aware about its existence and why it is highly used by makeup experts. I was looking for a product that would cover my under eye discoloration and small skin bumps. Before we begin with the review, let me just brief you about how I got to know about this product and why I found it necessary to purchase it. I have reddish discoloration around my eyes along with a few skin bumps under my eyes. I tried using several concealers and foundations but never found 100 % coverage of the discoloration.

I tried most of the home remedies from using cold tea bags and cucumbers, under eye creams/ getting proper sleep / hormonal imbalance check, almost most of the things but still I have it. Especially in pictures with low back light my dark eyes would make me look lethargic and pale. Even though I do my entire makeup, after few hours my dark circles would be visible on pictures. As I suffer from a skin condition, “eczema” I have dry skin around my eyes secondly the shading caused under my eyes is due to the shape of my eye socket. A year ago, I had gone through a makeup course, where our trainer informed us about details of a corrector, how correctors are used and selected as per our skin tone. If you browse on interest there is a vast information about skin color correctors and color theory. So this is how I decided to try MAC Studio Finish Skin Corrector ( PURE ORANGE) and realized it did work for me to camouflage my under eye discoloration.

Let us first understand what is a skin Color corrector?

A color corrector neutralizes the uneven tones like reddish /blue / green /violet when used along with concealer and foundation. Correctors are available in different tones. Personally I feel orange corrector works best on Indian skin tones. Skin Correctors masks unevenness and pigmentation on our skin.

Correctors are not same as concealers !!!! Color correctors along with foundation / concealers can camouflage (May not cover it 100%) the discoloration in the skin.

This is just to mention that all information about this product in this post is based on my personal experience. The outcome of the product may vary person to person.

What MAC Claims:  A specially tinted, full-coverage and long wearing water resistant corrector. Goes on smooth and dries to a natural finish. Emollient rich formula that is highly pigmented and only requires a dab to correct discoloration and conceal tattoos ,dark circles and blemishes.

Benefits: SPF 35, long wearing (12 hours), controls oil, rich in antioxidants, water resistant, fragrance free, non acnegenic

Price: 8.75 KWD /- for 6g [around 2000 Indian rupees]

Packaging/Shade/Texture:

This product is packed in a MAC tub container which is black in color with a transparent non detachable lid. The shade and weight of the product is mentioned behind the tub. You may either use the product by running the finger tip over it (I know that isn’t hygienic) or you could scoop out a tiny amount with a help of a spatula and blend on a palette or use a concealer brush.

It is vibrant orange shade as MAC claims it, highly pigmented; a tiny amount is enough to fix the discoloration so a tub of 6 gms can really go a long way. It is creamy smooth in texture , which on application doesn’t not crease into your fine lines and easily bendable. It does camouflage my discoloration and skin bump under my eyes to a very good extent.

As I mentioned about my skin condition earlier, I did not face any skin irritation with this product, in fact this product kept my skin hydrated throughout.

How do I apply this product on my face for utmost results?

Application is divided in three simple steps (For this post I will be talking about how I used this product for my under eye discoloration)

Moisturizer, Corrector, Concealer

Step 1: Moisturize the area around yours eye well. With the help of my index finger I dab the product on the back of my palm to avoid excess amount of product to be added directly on to my skin.

Step 2: With a help of a clean finger tip dab the blended product on your discolored skin which is around my eye area [above the lids and under eye]. Dab a tissue with a very light hand on to the applied skin to pick excess product which helps us to avoid creasing.

Step 3: Once Step 2 Completed .Dab your foundation, concealer and finally a translucent powder to lock all your products in place.

Note: I’m mentioning several times to dab the product since we do not want to drag the color corrector all over our face as the discoloration is only on particular area. Dabbing also helps the product to blend into your skin well to give that natural finish.

At the beginning you might find it time consuming but trust me the final results are fabulous. You just need a hang of the amount of product to be used, so begin with a tiny amount then increase if you need more coverage.

I use this product for parties, office meetings where I want to look fresh when I’m not .hehehe!!. Secondly you can have an even skin tone after using color corrector. I may not use a corrector on daily basis as I avoid using excess products. But it’s your personal choice.

Pros:

  • Highly pigmented
  • Best results on pictures
  • Medium coverage
  • Evens out the skin tone( natural finish)
  • Stay Power ( atleast 8 hours)
  • Easily bendable
  • Water proof and non irritating to skin
  • Product lasts for a long time ,as tiny amount is required.
  • Light weight
  • Controls oiliness (does not crease)
  • Has SPF

Cons:

  • Could be a little heavy on pockets as you may not use this product as a daily routine.
  • Need prior practice for application ( This may not be a con for some)
  • You need addition dabbing sponge or brushes for a neat finish.

Rating: 4/5

Would I recommend MAC Studio Finish Skin Corrector ( PURE ORANGE) ? Yes!!!! Yes!!! For blue to reddish dark circles and pigmentation it’s a must.

Editor’s Note: Nice review Linda, I have the LA Girl Orange corrector, would definitely check this out once I am done with that. But an orange corrector changes the eye game completely, whole face looks even toned and fresh

Have you tried orange correctors for dark circles? Which one do you use?

How to Fight Under-Eye Discoloration Naturally?

How to Fight Under-Eye Discoloration Naturally?

By Nidhal

Eyes are the windows to one’s heart. So true! But they are a lot more than that. They are also indicators of your health. Given the kind of lifestyles we all are living, we frequently tend to cross paths with dark circles, patchiness, discoloration, puffy eyes and what not. The first stage is of denial when we see signs of these pesky woes. Conveniently and more aptly sceptically we wring up our hands in disbelief brushing aside those signs.

A few more days roll by and then those signs begin drawing unwanted attention for people point it out. That sends the ‘Oh-No- Something’s-Wrong’ flag soaring high. Petrified, we wade across over-the-counter measures and what not to allay them but more often than not, such products do not throw positive results. Disappointed, we fall into a whirlpool of pessimism. But hey, worry not. We have a treasure trove of pocket-friendly recipes-none invasive, painful or costing you an arm and a leg at your disposal that’ll leave you heaving a sigh of respite.

1. MALAI/MILK CREAM- Milk has great lightening abilities for the skin and can be a very affordable option for dealing with dark circles under the eyes, which can have great results. Milk cream is a derivative of milk. Being a powerhouse of fats, malai is what you need if you suffer from under-eye discoloration.

PROCEDURE- Simply dab and massage a tbsp. of fresh milk cream using your ring finger (for it is the gentlest in massaging) carefully on your under-eye area. Do not let it enter your eyes. If it does, wash off immediately. That’s it. Sleep with it. In the morning, you can wash it off. Let it work its magic overnight. Continue every night for at least a week. It shows results and how! I vouch for this method provided it is followed painstakingly and regularly. And yes, it softens the area too. Double-whammy, did I hear you say that?

2. ALMOND OIL- Here comes the weapon that has been relied upon since times immemorial to banish those dark circles- Almond oil. Shouldn’t there have been drumrolls in the background as I introduced it?

Coming to its virtues, almond oil is anti-inflammatory, thus it reduces puffy bags under the eyes and dark circles. It is a good source of vitamin K, which improves clotting, reducing discoloration under the eyes.

PROCEDURE- Application is simple. Simply slather and massage the under-eye area with almond oil (few drops) every night dedicatedly without fail for at least a fortnight. Sleep with it and let your skin repair itself overnight.

3. EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL- If almond oil has made an appearance on this list, can EVOO (Extra virgin olive oil) stay far behind? EVOO is the best grade of olive oil for it is least processed and contains maximum nutrition. It comes in glass bottles and is higher than all other variants. It works wonders in allaying wrinkles. Ladies approaching their twilight years can still shed a few years of age off their skin with the help of this wonder oil.

PROCEDURE- Massage a few drops of it on your under-eye area. Please note that massaging is important. That is what matters else the oil will merely sit on your skin and not nourish it the way you want to. Do this every night for 5 minutes gently for at least a fortnight. You will be spellbound with the positive turn of events.

4. GREEN TEA BAGS- Packed with a number of antioxidants, green tea helps banish dark circles and keeps them at bay for as long as you continue sipping (or as I do, gulping) it.

PROCEDURE- Put two green tea bags in the refrigerator for at least an hour. After that, keep them on your eyes. It’s alright if it’s not entirely on your under-eyes. It nourishes eyelashes too so, you have the best of both worlds there.

5. CUCUMBER JUICE- Not only is the cool cucumber (you surely would have heard the phrase ‘as cool as a cucumber’) rich in vitamins and minerals which helps to hydrate, nourish and tone skin, but also brighten the under eye area, so that you can say ‘good bye’ to those pesky dark circles permanently. What needs to be done?

PROCEDURE- Mince a cucumber into a few slices. Actually, two would do. Freeze them for half an hour and then, keep them on your eyes. Bid farewell to all those woes pertaining to your under-eye area.

Editor’s Note: Those are fab tips Nidhal. I swear by almond oil, I am currently using the Cold Pressed Sweet Almond Oil and 3 drops are more than enough! Also just wanted to add, be careful when using the oil, make sure you don’t go too close to the eyes or it doesn’t enter inside, it kind of blurs vision for the entire night :/ Also I recommend the Rogan Badam Shirin, it’s the most economical and easily available option when it comes to purity.

Under Eye Circles & Bags : Causes & Remedies

Under Eye Circles & Bags : Causes & Remedies

By Ishleen

Lifestyles today are more stressful than comfortable, despite the luxuries that we can indulge in. Computers, mobiles, and all the electronic gadgets that we have involved to make our lives simpler have further disturbed our working schedules, that too on the cost of the health of our body. More work, less sleep; and the direct results are clearly visible in the puffiness and dark shadows around our eyes.

Raccoon eyes, under-eye bags, dark circles, shadows, panda eyes; all these are names of the same problem. So what basically causes our eyes to develop such conditions?

Read below to know more.

Causes

Whether you may know it or not, the skin which appears to be bluish black under our eyes is because of the skin in that area being too thin, thus making the blood vessels visible all the more. No, your blood vessels are not exactly blue; but only the wavelengths of blue and purple colors are allowed to be reflected by your under-eye skin, thus giving an impression of bluish-black under eye bags.

1. Genetics

One of the major causes of recurring or prominent dark circles is genetics. If your parents have thin skin around the eyes, or more than average blood vessels, it is almost certain that you will be passed on with the unfortunate trait.

2. Age and Gender

Dark circles under the eyes can begin to be dominantly visible in your 20’s, both in males and females alike; but they are most daunting in the old age. In old age, our skins loose elasticity and do not have the ability to regenerate the skin cells at a steady pace, thus the predominance of raccoon eyes.

3. Fatigue and sleeplessness

In case of fatigue, skin produces a chemical named cortisol, to give your body dynamism when it is working on low levels of energy. It increases the volume of blood in the body, thereby enlarging the blood vessels by creating more pressure in them. As the skin is thin around your delicate eyes, the engorged blood vessels are more prominently visible.

4. Ruptured blood vessels

At times, blood vessels under the eyes can get ruptured and the blood leaking from them starts oxidizing; leading to dim shadows on the lean membrane underneath the eyes. However this is nothing to be much apprehensive about, as in the company of the right type of treatments; this hitch can be easily rectified.

5. Excess of sleep and other lifestyle reasons

Dark under eye circles can even be caused by high sodium intake; which helps in retaining more fluids in body, leading to puffiness; which in turns makes dark circles more visible. Sleeping on your stomach for prolonged periods of time, leads to the accumulation of fluids in the facial area, especially around the eyes, causing freaky dark circles. Or say, when you have been crying uncontrollably, for any reason whatsoever, the salinity of your tears leads to puffiness around your eyes. So forget what happened and just smile 🙂

Remedies

If you are one of those few unlucky ones who have to bear with the problem of dark under eye circles, no matter what, and you do not want to spend on swanky under eye creams or laser surgeries; these home remedies await you.

a) Cucumber apart from acting as a cooling agent, also works as a lightening instrument and an astringent for your skin. Placing cucumber slices on your eyes, or gently rubbing cotton balls dipped in fresh cucumber juice can help to reduce the dark circles. Though the cucumber juice works better if you leave it overnight. Don’t worry; your skin will readily absorb it.

b) Potato juice is great to reduce the puffiness around the eyes, and is often used for treating tan spots and blemishes. Grate a raw potato, extract its juice, and apply the freshly squeezed juice to the affected area. Leave it on overnight if possible.

c) For added goodness, mix both cucumber and potato juice, and with a soft cotton pad, dab the juice gently on to the skin. Leave the juice on for about half an hour, and wash the face with cold water.

ADDITIONAL TIP: To keep the eyes moisturized, follow up by gently massaging olive, coconut or almond oil around the eye area. Remember not to put too much pressure around the eyes.

2. Frozen metal spoons

For instant relief from under eye circles caused by lack of sleep, or sleeping in the wrong posture for prolonged periods of time; all you need is two frozen metal spoons. Make it a habit to keep two metal spoons in your freezer so that you can utilize them any time you want. Just place the rounded edges of the spoon on the eye area and let it rest till the temp of the spoon becomes normal. The cooling effect will help stimulate blood circulation and also decrease the quantity of fluid accumulation around the peepers.

3. Chilled Green tea bags

Green tea is chock full of anti-oxidants, and anti-oxidants are good for your skin. Period. Dip two green tea bags in boiling water, and let them stay immersed for about 3-4 minutes. Take out the tea bags and place them in the freezer, letting them stay till they are chilled. (In the meanwhile, enjoy the goodness of your green tea.) Once the tea bags are chilled enough, place them onto your under eye areas, one bag on each eye, and let them rest for 15-20 minutes. You will notice the results for yourself.

4. The goodness of rose water

Pure Rose water is one product which is the answer of almost all skin care problems. Yes it is that good. Dab a pair of cotton balls in cold rose water, and apply it to the eyes. Let the cotton balls stay on the eyes for as long as possible and wash your face off. Do not forget to follow up with a rich moisturizer.

5. The Wonderful Tomato juice

Most of the treatments for dark under eye circles lie in our own kitchen. Tomatoes comprise of lycopene, which is a great anti-oxidant and has the ability to lighten your skin. Squeeze the juice of one ripe tomato, or mash the pulp and mix in a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. Lemon juice again acts as a bleaching agent and has anti-inflammatory properties which reduce puffiness. Apply this mixture under the eyes and let it stay for about 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water for better results.

6. Crushed mint leaves

Mint has amazing cooling properties which helps in instantly soothing the skin and reducing the appearance of dark discoloration around the eyes. Crush a few mint leaves using a mortar and pestle and apply the leaves as it is under the eyes. Wait for about 15 minutes and then remove any residue with a damp cotton swab. You can even mix the goodness of cucumber juice to the crushed leaves for better results.

7. Cold compress or ice pack

Cold compress works on the same principal as that of the metal spoons. The chilling effect will help stimulate blood circulation, thereby diminishing puffiness and rectifying the temporary pigmentation under the eyes. Either use a gel based cold compress, or take a few ice cubes wrapped in a thin cloth, and place them under your eyes till the ice melts off completely. Goodbye, raccoon eyes. 😉

8. The efficient milk and fenugreek seed paste

This DIY under eye face mask can work wonders to rectify dark circles. Take a few fenugreek (methi) seeds and soak them overnight. The next day, grind the seeds to form a fine paste. To this paste add a tablespoon of milk and a pinch of turmeric. Mix well, and apply the paste under the eyes.

9. White bread and milk

Milk has both fats and proteins, making it the best moisturizer for our skin. Mix this elixir of goodness with a slice of white bread, mixing it into a fine paste. Apply this paste daily on your under eye area for smoother and even toned under eye skin.

10. Say goodbye to bad habits

Smoking, drinking and stressing a tad bit too much are the main causes which can lead to hyper pigmentation around the eyes and leads to fluid accumulation, causing puffiness. For eyes that do not resemble that of a panda, try bidding goobye to these bad habits of yours.

Till when are you going to hide the dark under eye area with corrective concealers and heavy-duty foundations? It is high time you followed one of these easy tips listed above and bid goodbye to these nasty shadows which never allow you to look your best. But remember that all the points listed above are purely natural and you should not expect instantaneous results; patience is the key.

Editor’s Note: Well written post Ishleen, I am going to try some of the tips myself 😀
