If you remember I had previously done a post busting shaving myths, read HERE
So today I am busting another shaving myth.
Myth 2: Shaving leaves skin dry and flaky
Shaving is a form of mild exfoliation as it removes the top layer of dead skin cells along with the hair. So you feel your skin is dry/flaky if it is dehydrated and not moisturized enough! If your skin is well moisturized and then you take a shower and shave, the skin is soft and moist and you can shave in ease. Also it won’t leave any dry flakes or scaly skin.
Using the Gillette Venus Satin Shave Gel makes a huge difference in your shave and how your skin feels after! I tried one leg normally and one leg with the Satin Shave Gel, the one with the shave gel was much more moisturized and softer. And now I have switched to the new Gillette Venus Breeze, so my skin is soft and moisturized even without a separate shaving gel, because of the attached soap gel bars.
Always moisturize your skin well post shaving! The dryness, itchiness and flaky skin is only because skin is craving moisture, it is not because of shaving. If your skin will be moisturized well before and after shaving and you use the Satin Shave Gel or the new Breeze razor, there will no dry, flaky skin for sure!
I hope your doubts on skin being dry/flaky post shaving are solved. If you have any other questions related to shaving, please feel free to ask in the comments below and I would be happy to answer.
Do you shave? How has your experience been with shaving?
As you all know I shave and I am a huge fan of the Gillette Venus, I have covered shaving and Gillette Venus many times on the blog, review HERE.
Gillette Venus has recently launched a new razor ‘Breeze’. Most of you would be knowing about this as it’s everywhere on Instagram 😀
Claims: Now smooth skin is just a shave away! The all new Gillette Venus Breeze razor for women is the secret to a time saving shave. It is built with flexible shave gel bars and contains rich body butters for a light lather. A smooth glide that makes no need for separate shave gel or soap.
3 Spring-mounted blades with telomer coating with shower storage.
Gives a smooth and silky shave
This razor is gentle on skin
Easy to use and convenient to carry
MRP: Rs.299/-
Pack of 2 cartridges: Rs. 350/-
It is available online on Amazon and Nykaa.
Ingredients:
The razor comes in this purple and blue box with the body and razor head separate. You just need to attach the two and it’s ready for use.
The razor itself has a pretty purple colour and looks quite good. The body has ergonomic grip so that the razor doesn’t slide off even for in shower use.
The USP of this razor are the two soap gel bars on the top and bottom of the razor head. They have a floral freesia scent which is quite nice. You don’t need a separate shaving gel with this razor, you just need to wet the razor or the skin and directly shave. The soap gel bars produce a soft lather and they also have moisturizing butters (Olive, Avocado, Kokum) which makes the razor shave smoothly, leaving the skin moisturized. There would no dryness whatsoever.
The 3 blades are quite sharp and nice, and it gives a smooth shave. Since it is shaving gel and razor both in 1, it’s a 2 in 1 product giving One Step Smooth Skin.
I often experience itchiness after shaving if I don’t moisturize my skin well with a rich body lotion/butter. But from the time I have started using Breeze, there has been no itchiness at all. I even skipped moisturizing once and nope, no itching.
I am absolutely in love with this razor as it makes the process even quicker, skipping the shaving gel part. Also this makes it perfect for travel as you do not have to carry a shaving gel separately now.
When the soap gel bars are completely used or the lubrastrip fades, you just need to change the cartridge/razor head which you can buy separately as a pack of two. So the body will last you for a really, long time. Very economical.
Only con would be I wish it came with a plastic cover, so that it is convenient to store and travel with. As the gel bars get moist after use, they become a little sticky and you have to store the razor vertically and dry.
Other than that, it is just perfect. I would highly recommend trying the new Gillette Venus Breeze if you haven’t yet.
Have you tried the new Gillette Venus Breeze? Your thoughts?
If you have been following my blog since quite some time now, you know how I am a fan of shaving and I have done quite a few posts on the correct method of shaving and on Gillette Venus razor in particular. I absolutely love it and I feel it’s one of the best razors in India currently.
A lot of you ask me why shaving, why not waxing or hair removal creams or any other method. So today I am discussing the pros and cons of all methods of hair removal and why I prefer shaving against all of those.
Shaving vs. Waxing
The most common question and the most frequently asked. The only advantage of waxing is you need to do it once in a month as the hair is uprooted from the roots and it takes time to grow back. And that also is the only disadvantage of shaving that it needs to be done once in 5-6 days. But other than this, everything else in favour of shaving. Shaving can be done anytime, anywhere and you don’t need any appointment at salon or anyone’s help in shaving. It is also much more economical and the main thing is shaving is painless! Waxing is very painful, the heat plus the pulling of hair from the roots is not easy to bear. Especially if you have sensitive skin like me, I get huge red bumps and they stay for 2 days and itch a lot! The white hair follicles from the roots come out from the pores of my skin each time and if I don’t use an astringent to close my pores, I get pus filled painful bumps from waxing and epilating. I am so thankful to be away from all that, shaving has literally changed my life (skin!)
Shaving vs. Epilating
Now the 2nd advantage of shaving was it can be done anytime, anywhere and on your own. Same goes for epilation. But the same disadvantage of uprooting hair from the roots applied to epilating too. It is again very painful and you have to do one area at a time, hence it is time consuming plus epilator covers less area and you have to bear the pain for a much longer time. I get red bumps and itchiness with epilating too, thanks to my sensitive skin. I have hardly epilated a few times in my life and it has been painful. It takes a lot of time for your body and skin to get used to epilation.
Shaving vs. Hair Removal Creams
Hair Removal creams seem like a convenient option on the face of it, but they are the worst in my opinion. I couldn’t wax due to my sensitive skin for almost 2-3 years and I used hair removal creams as I had not started shaving then. This was years ago when I was in college. I still repent that decision, the chemicals in hair removal creams are not very good for the skin and they also darken the skin. Again it’s temporary and the hair grows back in 5-6 days and you have to keep on using those creams, in turn harming the skin.
Shaving vs. Laser
Now laser is permanent and we all would love the permanent option. But it is laser hair reduction and not laser hair removal. Your hair don’t stop growing at all, they just reduce in number plus the growth process is slower. Biggest disadvantage, laser is super expensive! And you need 6-8 minimum laser sessions plus lifetime maintenance sessions. Each session should have a gap of at least a month and 2 months towards the end sessions for the hair to grow. So again it’s time consuming. Also it is painful too, as each hair follicle is burnt with the laser light.
Biggest advantage of shaving compared to all of these methods of hair removal is, it is painless! Also it is the most economical, one razor lasts you forever, you just need to buy new cartridges.
So if you compare all methods of hair removal in a crux, shaving wins hands down! Currently I have got a fracture on my right leg and I can’t go anywhere. I can’t have hairy legs as I have to show my legs to the doctors for swelling, etc. all the time and also I am pretty much in shorts as it’s more convenient and there are no chances of tripping. My Gillette Venus razor has been so helpful in this time, I have only been shaving as usual.
You can buy the Gillette Venus All in One Pack HEREwhich has a razor, changeable cartridges and the Satin Care Shaving Gel.
If you remember some time back I did a post on shaving myths, see HERE. So today I thought of sharing the benefits of shaving and the correct method of shaving.
Let’s begin with the benefits of shaving:
Economical : It has to be the most economical method of hair removal. While waxing requires help usually and the charges range from Rs. 500-1000 for hands/legs etc., depending on the body parts and type of wax and from where/whom you get it done, shaving can be done at the comfort of your home yourself and one gift pack worth Rs.550/- will last you ages as it comes with changeable cartridges
Time saving : You need not visit a salon or need any appointments for shaving. You can do it anytime, anywhere. All you will need is your razor and shaving gel.
Easy and quick : It’s also the quickest method of hair removal. This is the biggest benefit in my opinion 😀 I am always running late and I am most of the times in knee length dresses/midi skirts, I bless my Gillette Venus during that time :p It’s like a savior, I finish shaving in 5 minutes literally.
Painless : Well yes ladies, it is completely painless! While waxing and epilation give me huge red bumps which take 2-3 days to subside, shaving seems like a blessing in comparision.
Travel friendly : I always carry my razor when I am going on a 9-10 days holiday/vacation. With my razor with me, I can wear whatever I want to! Yes, you can carry an epilator too, but a razor is much smaller and lighter in comparision. And as explained above, easy, quick and painless coz you got no time on a vacation to sit and epilate! Always prefer a razor over an epilator
While there are number of benefits of shaving, the only con would be that you have to shave once in 5-7 days depending on your hair growth. But I think that is totally doable considering the benefits and how quick it is.
Now, let’s come to the correct method of shaving. I know a lot of girls have dryness, itchiness, ingrown hair, etc. after shaving, if you follow this method step by step, I assure you that there will be no such problems.
1. Exfoliate your body/parts where you want to shave a day prior using a body scrub/loofah/bath gloves.
2. Moisturize your skin beforehand. Never start shaving on dry skin
3. Soak the skin for 1-2 minutes in the shower before starting to shave. But do not let the skin soak in the bath for too long as the water will plump up the skin and that may affect the smoothness of shave.
4. Always use a shaving gel. The Satin Care shave gel is meant for sensitive skin and has aloe vera. It not only keeps the skin moisturized and give a super smooth shave, it also soothes the skin coz of the aloe.
5. Clean the razor well, in between each part.
6. Wash off, pat dry and use a rich, moisturizing body butter/body lotion. If it has Retinol, that would be even better!
7. Keep moisturizing for 2-3 days
That’s it. If you follow this exact method, there will never be any dryness or itchiness.

There are many myths associated with shaving which only scare girls to try out shaving, while the truth is shaving is the most easy, non painful, time saving, effective and economical method of hair removal!
I have been shaving since quite a few years now and even I was scared initially, but later on I realized how everything we heard about shaving was untrue and it is actually so, so convenient! I am hooked to shaving and want more girls to try out shaving without hesitation.
I will be busting some myths associated with shaving and explain why they are totally untrue. I have divided the myths into few parts, so I will be busting the first myth in this post and few later in other posts
Myth 1: Shaving makes your hair grow thicker, darker and faster
It is just the top part of the hair we cut when we shave, so the hair that grows and comes out later is the inside part which is in the roots of the skin already, which is a little darker as it has more melanin and hence we feel that the hair is growing thicker and darker. It is just that the hair that was within the skin comes out and we feel it is different when actually it isn’t. It is a part of the same hair follicle. So there is no change in hair texture or color or thickness in anyway due to shaving. Hair growth/colour depends on genetic factors and is internal, shaving cannot make your hair grow faster or thicker or darker.
So your genes and hormones determine your hair regrowth and it is not related to shaving at all.
I hope I busted the myth and cleared some concepts. If you have been wanting to try shaving but feel unsure because you felt your hair will grow darker or thicker, I hope you do try now 🙂
Gillette Venus Razor and the Satin Shave Gel are my go-to. The only razor for women in India currently which are super easy to use and economical too. You can buy this All In One Pack HERE.

Gillette Venus #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge Final Update
Hi guys,
Time for the last and final update of the Gillette Venus #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge. Read more about the event and the challenge HERE and the first update HERE, 2nd update HERE and the 3rd update HERE
I have been shaving my legs for more than a month now. I was always into waxing but things have changed since my marriage, I hardly get the time to go to a salon and also since it’s a new place, I was not very comfortable going to any salon. (Since I used to go to a particular salon only pre marriage near my parents’ place)
This shaving challenge came at the perfect time for me and I readily took it up, and I am so glad I did. I am a convert now and I guess the ease of shaving and how quick it is, has made me a shaving girl now 😀
Today I will bust the myths ‘Shaving causes harm to the skin’ and ‘Shaving causes nicks and cuts’. Well, shaving can cause nicks and cuts if a proper razor is not used and one is not careful while shaving. That was one of the reasons I never shaved before, coz I was always scared of nicks and cuts. But with the adjusting head of Gillette Venus razor, it goes on like super smooth even in the edges and corners of the legs and there has not been a single cut or nick ever with it. I don’t think I am trying out any other razor ever. And as far as causing harm to the skin is concerned, absolutely not! Shaving does not cause any harm to the skin, in fact it removes the dead skin cells and exfoliates in a way.
Benefits of Shaving:
Does not damage or darken the skin like hair removing creams
Saves a lot of time as no salon visits and can be done anytime, anywhere in minutes
Can be carried along anywhere, even on your long holidays
One razor lasts 3 months, so it saves a lot of money compared to other hair removal methods!
A total value for money
Ease of use, you just need a few extra minutes in your bathroom to shave and you are sorted
I have shared the correct method and some tips for shaving HERE and HERE
Its been a boon for me and now I can wear all my dresses without a second thought. I totally love the idea of shaving now and I don’t think I am going back towards waxing anytime soon 😀 From a girl who never shaved to one who does not want to go back,it’s quite a leap, don’t you think? Definitely give it a try, if you haven’t yet!

Time for another update of the Gillette Venus #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge. Read more about the event and the challenge HERE and the first update HERE and 2nd update HERE.
Its been almost a little more than a month that I have only shaved my legs and not gone for any other method of hair removal.
In this post I will bust the myths that ‘Shaving causes itchiness’ and ‘Shaving changes hair texture or hair growth’. Well shaving does not at all change the hair texture in any way. As I explained in the first post, it is just the top part of the hair we cut when we shave, so the hair that grows and comes out later is the inside part which is in the roots of the skin, which is a little darker as it has more melanin and hence we feel that the hair is growing thicker and darker. It is just that the hair that was within comes out and we feel it is different when actually it isn’t and it is a part of the same hair. So there is no change in hair texture or color or thickness in anyway due to shaving.
Also I was the one who used to feel very itchy after shaving and that was always my concern, but with the tips I mentioned in the previous post, it has been breeze and I haven’t experienced any itchiness whatsoever. So it is not shaving that caused itchiness, but not following the necessary steps that caused the itchiness.
If compared to other hair removal methods, waxing is something I can’t and won’t prefer doing at home coz of the messiness it involves and always lack the time and patience to visit a salon for the same. I have also tried hair removal creams long back when I was in high school and junior college as doctor had advised me not to wax as my sensitive skin reacted to it then. The biggest disadvantage of hair removal creams is it darkens the skin, I have experienced that personally, with time and regular usage, it did darken the skin slowly. Also, I completely hated the smell of those hair removal creams.
And the biggest advantage of shaving for me currently is,I can do it quickly within a few minutes and anywhere. I just need to carry my small razor with me. What do you guys feel?

Time for another update of the Gillette Venus #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge. Read more about the event and the challenge HERE and the previous update HERE.
Another round of shaving after 9-10 days, my skin is still soft and smooth. I will bust the myth ‘Shaving alters or changes skin color or makes it patchy’ today. I have been shaving my legs since quite some now and it did not at all change the color of my skin. Skin might feel a bit patchy right after shaving,if you go for dry shaving and do not moisturise it enough. If you go for wet shaving, no such issue. And the patchiness is just for a few minutes untill you apply moisturiser, even in dry shaving. It does not make your skin change its texture or color in any way.
Your skin remains the same, and in fact it is even more smoother after shaving 😀 We all love those hairless legs’ feeling, right.
Some tips for shaving correctly:
Go for wet shaving while having a bath, whenever you can
Do not soak your skin in shower for more than 1-2 minutes, before shaving, as you do not want the skin to swell up.
Always moisturise before the bath for a smoother shaving experience.
Follow up with a nice moisturiser, preferably with retinol to avoid itching and calm the skin.
A shaving gel will make the process easier, if you run out of it, you can use your hair conditioner to shave.

Remember my Gillette Venus event and the #SubscribeToSmooth challenge I took for 30 days. Read all about it HERE
So, I shaved again after that and here is an update for you guys. The process has been so so smooth and easy plus super quick. If you read the previous post, I told you how Dr. Rashmi Shetty told us if your skin is well moisturised and then you take a shower and shave, the skin is soft and moist and you can shave in ease. But do not let the skin soak in the bath for too long as the water will plump up the skin and that may affect the smoothness of shave. Ideal time would be 1-2 minutes. I tried that method and it was super amazing.
My skin did not feel any dryness or stretched. There were no white flakes as we usually see in dry shaving or sometimes our skin itches due to that. There was no itching too this time. The Satin Shave gel makes it more softer and prevents skin from drying.
So the myth of shaving makes my skin dry and flaky is busted, right here! If you use the correct products and method, it does not. I am going to continue using this method. I hope you guys try it out too. Do let me know your experience. And leave your questions related to shaving in the comments below or you can even mail me 🙂

Gillette Venus Event and #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge
Hi Guys,
So you must have seen my pics from the Gillette Venus Event that happened last week, if you follow me on twitter or Instagram 🙂 It happened at the Zenith Party Suite at Palladium Hotel.
The theme was nautical and hence, everyone was either in blue or in stripes 😀 We clicked the pics with the sailor hat and Gillette Venus razor board props. Here is my pic from the event..
I went print on print..with polka dots on stripes 🙂
A panel comprising of dermatologist Dr. Rashmi Shetty, amazing makeup artist Namrata Soni and the ‘Heropanti’ actress Kriti Sanon talked about shaving and busted some myths.
Surprisingly both Namrata Soni and Kriti Sanon have been shaving from around 10 years and more. Namrata Soni talked about how being a makeup artist, they have to work with different people and sometimes also take care of these issues like hair removal coz a particular scene requires it, etc., so she always carries a Gillette Venus razor with her. She has sensitive skin and was not supposed to wax as she used to get rashes and hence, she has been shaving since the past 10-12 years.
Kriti Sanon said she also always got those red patches and burns from waxing and prefers shaving anytime. In fact, she mentioned she is so used to it, that she shaves every 2-3 days and carries a razor all the time, as she needs hair free skin for shoots, etc. She also mentioned how Gillette Venus goes quite smooth on the skin and the contours coz of the pivoting head, she does not have to press the razor hard which irritates the skin.
Dr. Rashmi Shetty busted some myths and talked about the right procedure and method to shave and the pre and post care for perfect shaving. She also said how majority women feel her skin would darken and the hair would grow thicker and faster forever after shaving, which is not true and holds no base. She explained how we nip the edge of the hair while shaving and it is not uprooted, the initial hair that grows back in 3-4 days is the one just below the skin, which is a bit darker coz of the melanin and hence we feel the hair is thicker.
Also, a lot of women including me, face itching issue post shaving, to which she shared the perfect way of shaving. According to Dr.Rashmi Shetty, one should not shave on dry skin. Moisturise your skin well, then have a bath and always go for wet shaving preferably. Then post shaving, apply a rich cream/body lotion (one with Retinol, if possible) which will soothe and calm the skin. And keep re-applying for 2-3 days and not just once.
Namrata Soni shared her favourite tip on shaving, she uses a hair conditioner to shave and uses a Calamine lotion post shaving and never faced any itching issue.
I am going to try both of the tips soon 😀
Coming to the Gillette Venus #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge Week 1. I have always been a waxing person, but since the past quite a few months, I have tried shaving and have loved the results as I did not have to rush to a salon, even when I am pressed for time.
During my honeymoon,I had carried my Gillette Venus razor with me and it was so helpful as were at Andamans, and you cannot not wear short clothes at a beach, right 😀 Also recently when I met with an accident and was on bed rest, I could not go to a salon, and I shaved 2-3 times with my trusted Gillette Venus. Read my review HERE.
I have taken up this 30 days challenge and have already shaved my legs once, as I had to for a particular event and had no time for a salon visit. This time, I also used the Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel and it was all the more easier!
I will bust some myths and share my personal experience in the coming month with you guys 🙂
