Make Up For Ever Star Powder, Diamond Powder Review, Swatches

Hi guys,

I have the Make Up For Ever Star Powder and Diamond Powder with me, I have heard so much about them, especially the Diamond Powder. Read on to know more..

Star Powder

Claims: The Star Powder is a silky powder that catches the light and gives the skin an intense sparkle and unparalleled shine. Its extremely fine, yet dense texture makes it easy to apply. Only a small amount is needed for visible results. The Star Powders can be used alone or blended together, applied over eyeshadow or mixed with any texture to highlight areas of the face.

How to use: Apply with a brush or sponge applicator. Moisten the brush slightly for enhanced shine and hold. For a pearly yet light makeup, apply the Star Powder to your face using a large powder brush. To highlight areas of the face and add a twinkle to your eyes, lips or cheeks, apply small hints of Star Powder.

Pro tip: use a damp brush to increase shine and hold. Use a damp brush to increase shine and hold. To highlight areas of the face or the decolletage, mix foundation with the Star Powder for added shimmers. For longer lasting results and more sparkles on the eyelids, apply a small amount of primer first. For a personalized and intense look, layer several Star Powders, dry or moistened, using a sponge applicator. Bring harmony and shimmers to your look by using the same shade of Star Powder on the eyelids, blended with lipstick, and added to nail varnish.

Shades Available: 35

MRP: Rs.1900/- for 2.8g

It comes in a small jar with punched holes to dispense the product. It’s a standard pigment packaging and quantity.

The shade range is  gorgeous, they have everything from Black Gold to Iridescent Pale Peach and Metallic Rosewood, Yellow Gold, etc.

The shade I have here is called 955 Plum with Blue Highlights. It’s a gorgeous duochrome shade, with hint of blue, brown and plum, reminds me a lot of MAC Blue Brown pigment which I own and is one of my favourites.

Some of the shades like gold, silver, rosewood, etc. would be ideal for Indian brides.

Diamond Powder

Claims: An ultra-fine mineral powder with an intense sparkling effect. Diamond Powder combines the pearly iridescence of Star Powder with the brilliance of glitter. It is composed almost entirely of pure synthetic mother-of-pearl with particles that are finer and literally radiate extreme brilliance as soon as they are applied. It can be used wet or dry on the face or body.

How to use: Diamond Powder can be applied to the eyes, cheeks, lips or body. Diamond Powder can be mixed with any liquid or powdery texture, including foundations, make up bases and lipsticks. For longer lasting results, mix with Aqua Seal or Mist & Fix then apply.

Shades Available: 10

MRP: Rs.2460/- for 2g

It has the same small jar packaging, except the jar is slightly diamond shaped with the edges. I have seen so many makeup artists especially bridal makeup artists use the MUFE Diamond Powder. Even Cory Walia had used it on me on my wedding day.

Diamond Powder Blanc Mauve, Star Powder Plum with Blue Highlights

You can use this on it’s own or top it for added shine at the end of your eye makeup. Every makeup artist has 2-3 shades of MUFE Diamond Powder in their collection. It is one of the finest shimmer available in the market. Even if you hate shimmer/glitter, you cannot stop falling in love with the Diamond Powder.

It gives that iridescent glow without the chunky glitter look. The pearl base is extremely fine and the pink shimmer is only what reflects on the skin on movement. If you use just a tiny bit on the centre of your eyelids, it gleams in sunlight.

I have the shade Blanc Mauve which is fine white mother of pearl pigment with pink-mauve shimmer.

Here is Star Powder on my eyes..

I like the fact that they come in smaller sizes because with pigments, you just need to touch your brush in them and even after using them well, they will last you a lifetime.

The camera did not catch the duochrome effect of the Star Powder and the pink shimmer of the Diamond Powder, it is something you can see under the sun or in light with movement. It’s beautiful!

Pigmentation is amazing, shade range is amazing. Plus they are multi use and work wet and dry for face/body/nails/hair.

They also have Star Lit Power and Metal Powder. If you are looking for a good quality pigment something like Diamond Powder which can be used for a multiple things, I highly recommend checking out Make Up For Ever pigments.

Have you tried the MUFE Star and Diamond Powder?

Faces Sparkle Dust Stackable Glitter Review, Swatches, Ways to Use

Faces Sparkle Dust Stackable Glitter Review, Swatches, Ways to Use

Hi guys, If you remember Faces Cosmetics had stack of pigment eyeshadows, they had a different name earlier, they have relaunched it with a new name and they are called Stackables now, since you can stack 4-5 shades one upon the other.

These come in 4 different families of colors, Wild i.e. more greens and blues, Zeebra i.e monochromes grey, white, black, Whish i.e. loads of bright colors and finally Glitter which are all glitter pigments and mostly metallic.

I am reviewing the Glitter one today.

What the Company claims: This concentrated shimmer is especially handy when you want shimmery, sultry eyes or to create unforgettable drama. Available in stacks of inspired color themes to help you create the most unique and stunning look.

MRP: Rs. 899/- (Available for INR 764 on Nykaa but currently OOS)

While the rest stackables have 5 shades and are priced at 799, the Glitter one has 6 shades and priced at 899.

I love how they are perfectly stacked one upon the other and you cannot misplace any shade as all have to be together since the base of one pigment jar is the cap of the other. Which also means you cannot carry them individually :/ I would have loved if they came with additional separate 4 caps to carry them individually too.

I absolutely love each and every shade in this Glitter Stackable, there are numerous options you can do with this.

Silver- True cool toned silver

Gold – Warm bronzy gold

White – My favourite, pure white with blue green duochrome effect.

Sky Blue – True Sky Blue mixed with a bit of silver

Plum – Aubergine Plum with gold

Deep Navy Blue – Deep Navy Blue with silver

What I love most about these is that the glitter is very finely milled and not at all chunky, it’s not like thick glitter much visible to eye and you cannot feel this. This feels soft and almost like a powder, even though it’s a glitter.

L-R: Navy Blue, Plum, Sky Blue, Silver, Gold, White

Numerous ways in which you can use these pigments:

1. As an eyeshadow obviously. You can dampen your brush with a makeup setting spray, take the pigment and apply directly on the lid.

2. Use glitter glue/Duraline and make an eyeliner with it, you can make 6 different colored eyeliners.

3. Mix with clear nail paint to get colored glitter nail paint. I would suggest taking some in an empty nail paint bottle or some base as you don’t want to mix the complete nail paint with single glitter option when you can try multiple options every time 🙂

4. Make only one figure glittery like the ring finger, I love doing this and as you can see I have done that above.

5. Try glitter french manicure by applying clear top coat on the tips and dipping them in glitter.

6. You can also use the white glitter one as highlighter, the matte sparkle dust in pinks/plums as blushes.

7. Use the white to highlight cupid’s bow too and mattify your pink/purple lipsticks by just dabbing some matte pigment on top. It will also make the colors look vivid and makes the lipsticks stay longer. A makeup artist tried that once on me during a shoot and the lipstick stayed much longer and I loved how vibrant and matte it looked.

There are endless possibilities with pigments and glitters in makeup. Experiment and have fun, my most favourite ways of using are definitely as eyeliner and single nail with glitter.

I would definitely recommend getting the Faces Stackables, the color option is something that depends on your personality and kind of makeup you look. If you are more into basic smokey, go for Zeebra. If you love colors, go for Whish while the Glitter one definitely has multiple uses and can work for everyone. Also I would suggest buying it from Nykaa only when it is on discount, coz  INR 764 is a great deal.

What about you? Do you like playing with pigments?

When: Friday, 8th June 2012

Where: Amadeus, NCPA, Nariman Point, Mumbai

What happened: Even a humid day in the over-cast weather of Mumbai could not break the excitement resonated around the conclave hosted by The Performance Materials division of Merck [India] to discuss and showcase the latest trends, movements, technology and innovations in the world of beauty and design. Merck is the pioneer and global leader in pearl effect pigments and a key player in setting global trends in beauty, skincare and design. Combining expertise with experience, this exclusive preview also featured the likes of Samantha Kochhar – MD Blossom Kochhar Companies, Ojas Rajani – Ace Bollywood make-up stylist and Dr. Soma Sarkar – renowned cosmetologist and dermatologist, who threw light on the latest advances and inventions in beauty and the importance of effect pigments in the colour cosmetics and skin-care products that we use.

Merck [India] also shared its latest initiative ‘Project effexX’, a first of its kind co-creation platform in the world of product design, architectural design, interior design, aesthetic design, package design, cosmetics and skin care. Through Project effexX, Merck India intends to communicate the value, benefits, and the need for special effect pigments in people’s lives and businesses, along with serving as a knowledge resource for trends, technology, new design and innovation. It’s the perfect destination for aspiring beauty and design professionals to engage with industry experts and seed new concepts and ideas.

It was an afternoon full of shimmer and shine, with Ojas Rajani showcasing the latest looks for Colour Forecast of Autumn/Winter, 2012. This was also followed by an interactive experiential session, where participants got to custom make their own skincare and colour cosmetic formulations using a variety of Merck pigments and actives.

What the Speakers had to say:

· Sharing his views on this initiative Siddhartha Sengupta, Head of Performance Materials, Merck Limited [India] said, “At Merck it is our constant endeavour to educate consumers about the relevance of effect pigments in their day-to-day lives. It is with this objective that we created ‘Project effexX’, an online and offline engagement programme to enlighten, inspire and empower consumers through influencers. This initiative will also help consumers understand the latest trends in the effect pigments space and give them a platform to network within their lines of work.”

· Talking on the occasion, Samantha Kochhar, Managing Director, Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies said, “I’m very pleased to support Project effexX, which I think is a great knowledge sharing platform for budding professionals and other industry players who want to raise the bar in the Hair and Beauty Industry. Companies can benefit from in-depth researched solutions with regards to pigments and ingredients in order to enable them to produce internal quality products and packaging, which do not harm people and the environment. We believe that as a company we are absolutely dedicated to providing natural, honest, credible and effective products. I personally have great faith in Merck products on account of their high quality and focus on safety, and have used their pigments in our latest skincare range, ‘Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic’.”

· Dr. Soma Sarkar was vocal in advocating the need for better skin care, “In today’s fast paced life, it’s important that both, women and men, pay greater attention to their skin care needs. This begins with using quality products which are appropriate for their skin type. I have high regard for a brand like Merck, which has managed to constantly stay on top of the skin care and beauty trends. Merck products not only deliver value for money but also organic world-class formulations that do not damage the skin. Each ingredient is backed by global certifications which are testimonial to their claims of efficacy. I am delighted to be part of Project effexX, which is a great platform for influencers and consumers alike to keep abreast of the latest developments in beauty and skin care, and also network with experts across principles.”

· Praising Merck [India]’s efforts in creating this dynamic knowledge sharing platform for young practitioners through Project effexX, Ojas Rajani said, “Merck has some really innovative pigments, actives and functional fillers, which provide superior quality textures and benefits to many of the colour cosmetic and skincare brands that we use. Project effexX is a great platform to educate consumers on the ingredients that they should seek in their beauty products and help them to take more calculated and informed purchase decisions.”

Ojas Rajani explained two looks on the models..a day time and a night time..the day time look was more sublte where pistachio and pastel shades were used and the night time look was smokey.

Samantha Kocchar was herself a makeup artist before..if you are a follower of Band Bajaa Bride on NDTV Good Times, you must have seen both Samantha and Ojas on the first season..She tookover as the MD of Aroma Magic a year and a half back after her dad expired and she heads it now. She also told us about the new launches of Aroma Magic..a new line of face washes..which have Merck Pigments..and new innovative packaging..and also that they have worked on the smell of Aroma Magic Mineral Glow Scrub which is their hot seller..but smells blah..

Ojas Rajani uses cosmetics which have Merck Pigments in them. I have got a lilac eye-shadow which has Merck pigments in it ..would review soon..

Merck also has Titanium Dioxide used in Suncreens and many other pigments related to skin care and pearl effect pigments used in makeup..the whole pigments thing was kind of an eye opener..I knew the ingredients used in stuff..but not about how these pigments are sourced from different companies and used in manufacturing and the process, etc..we were also shown a demo of different pigments mixed together..

Have you heard about the Merck Pigments before ?
