Random Rambles : Shy Influencer? Overcoming it? 'Reality' of Blogging?

Random Rambles : Shy Influencer? Overcoming it? ‘Reality’ of Blogging?

Random Rambles : Shy Influencer? Overcoming it? ‘Reality’ of Blogging?

Hi guys,

This post is totally different from what I have done till now, I always stick to makeup/outfits and very rarely I do post about my personal life. I did when I got engaged, married and had met with an accident. Life has been routine pretty much, but I was just wondering how much I have grown and just wanted to share some random personal thoughts on my mind.

It’s difficult for people to believe that you are a shy/introvert person when you are a social media influencer/blogger/YouTuber as in most cases, it’s the opposite 😀

I saw Jordynn from Colourpop mention once on how all the international Youtubers they meet for the first time, are very shy. So it’s a usual phenomena because sitting in one room and recording alone is very different than going out and actually meeting people. The same goes for bloggers, as they just sit and write about their experience. Though it’s different for the new age influencers who start with Instagram/Musical.ly and likes, as they are young millenials and love interacting and meeting new people. It’s all about videos these days, and most of them are outgoing extroverts.

I am a very shy person and quiet in general, I don’t talk much even with family and friends. I have always been quiet, and when I was studying alone whole day for CA exams, etc., I was just with my books for 80-85% of my day. Even now I am pretty much all alone through the day, except when hubby or house help at home, or I am talking on the phone (which again hardly lasts 1-2 mins). Maybe it all added up and I became quieter in life.

Now how difficult is it to become an influencer if you are an introvert? It is surely difficult, you have to overcome your shyness and do many things out of your comfort zone almost on a daily basis. You attend events, meet people, network and socialize, even that is difficult when you are just shy in general. It’s all awkward initially, I remember my first 2-3 events and it was difficult even conversing with people and I used to hardly talk. I am more of a spectator at events, though I have improved a lot and overcome most of my shyness in the past few years. I still only talk more with people I am comfortable with and know since a long time. I still can’t talk to new people 😀

Certain campaigns require you to do certain things, and if you are not this over the top happy and goofy/excited person all the time (totally not me), it’s difficult to act like that and your work won’t get approved till you show that enthusiasm, especially for video campaigns. It requires multiple takes and approvals in that case!

Also if you have met me during meet and greets or even generally, you must have noticed that I don’t talk much or am not that ‘excited all the time’ person. I am not snobbish, but I just can’t talk and take forever to open up.

I have grown so much and overcome a lot of my fears/shyness. I experiment with shoots, outfits, and feel like doing so much more. I used to only work with Sneha from Rhythmic Focus and was very comfortable with her, even she has seen me grow and the change in me from what I was 2-3 years ago. I couldn’t even pose back then, and I still feel awkward in public places but I really admire the young influencers I see around and get inspired by them. I am open to learning and change, and improve things. I have also started working with other photographers who wanted to collaborate with me, as it was a good opportunity to break out of my comfort zone. It also helped me understand what angles/poses work for me.

The more work you do, the more you experiment, the more confident you become. I started YouTube around 3-4 years ago and even though I am far from pro at it, I have come a long way and can face cameras confidently now. My initial few videos I was very shy and conscious, I was awkward at events where they required video bytes. Now I am always ready for any video bytes and don’t think twice 😀 Blogging, Reading, YouTube and making videos has also helped me a lot in the way I write, speak and converse, I have become so confident overall and I can see my growth from 2010 to now.

I was quite naive initially and even till 2-3 years ago I was gullible and people have used me at many instances. I have worked for free, have adjusted and compromised many times, shared my own pictures and work with people, covered events for someone else, have helped people with hashtags, handles and what not because they are too dumb to remember or even know the spellings, even after sharing multiple times!

I have gone out of my way to help people and continued doing it almost 6-7 years. I have learned to say ‘NO’ now, there comes a point when you realize it’s enough and you have to take a stand for yourself. You don’t want to be used anymore! The very same people vanished after that 😀 Haha, isn’t that obvious? Because they don’t have any benefit being friends with you now!

I have met so many new bloggers who are very warm and friendly. You can find out how a person is when you meet them often and talk to them, see how they behave and how they are online. Of course there are many living a dual life and fake it online, they don’t want people to know their reality! I have seen so much in these 8-8.5 years, people are completely different online or once when you shoot/record and offline once the recording stops. Some are here just for the money and there is so much jealousy and negativity, it gets on you at times.

There are Instagram pods where a group of bloggers like and comment on each other’s pictures. There are many such pods in India too, but I never participated in them. I have seen the very same bloggers who write amazing things on each other’s pictures bitch about them behind! I can’t handle this hypocrisy or being dual faced, it’s my pet peeve. I like and comment when I feel like or I genuinely love the picture/person.

There is this thing about liking and commenting on each other’s pictures, even without a pod. Like bloggers would like and comment only if you do the same on their pictures. It’s like ‘you scratch my back, I scratch yours’ funda and I don’t really get it. I like so many pictures on a daily, not just bloggers, but so many followers and random accounts too. If I like the picture, I heart it. Why the unnecessary drama?!

You may have ‘friends’ in this blogging world, but you are truly on your own, like in every industry! Some people are friends with each other, only because they like each other’s pictures or shoot for each other. No one is friends here without any benefit. Some are on and off friends and make fun of the so called ‘friend’ and bitch about them, when off. Until they are friends again! Some try to spread negativity about you, or want to take advantage of the situation. Everyone knows everything, but they just don’t talk about it, like in any glamour industry. I would just say ‘Don’t be fooled by what you see online’ and ‘Don’t follow anyone blindly’. Take everything with a pinch of salt. Nothing surprises me anymore in this blogging world, as I have literally seen it all. And from what I have heard, it’s not restricted to beauty and fashion blogging, but in all genres.

I have always believed in ‘Live and Let Live’ and ‘To Each His Own’, so whatever works for you. I stay away from all of this and just do my own work. I wanted to write down my thoughts as my mind was cluttered with many things.

Coming to the pics, I had this bath tub theme in my mind since a long time and when I finally got this opportunity, we decided to shoot it. It feels amazing when you think of a concept, and the outcome is very similar to how you imagined it.

I am pretty happy with how it turned out, let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

4 Things To Do As Soon As You Get Engaged

4 Things To Do As Soon As You Get Engaged

Recently engaged? Congrats! This is an exciting time and one that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. But once the initial thrill of the engagement starts to fade a bit and you’re back to reality, the first thing on your mind will probably be planning the wedding. It can be a little overwhelming to consider all the details that will go into such a major event, but with this guide, you can knock a few things off your to-do list right away. Here are the very first things to do once you’re engaged.

Spread the Word

One of the best parts about being engaged is spreading the word to your loved ones! Use phone, email, social media or even mailed announcements to share your big news.

Decide on a Budget

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, so there’s no minimum amount you need to spend on your celebrations. However, coming up with a budget is the number one priority before you continue with any other wedding planning. Talk to your partner about whether you’ll be able to pay for the wedding yourselves, or discuss possible contributions with your parents. Once you have a number in mind, you can continue with the rest of your planning while staying within your budget.

Research Vendor Options

Next up is vendor research. You’ll probably want to start with the type of venue you have in mind. Do you want something small and intimate, or a big wedding with hundreds of guests? That will help you determine the venue size you need to ensure that you can actually fit everyone in at the ceremony and reception. Beyond that, you can start scouting out photographers, DJs, caterers, florists, and other vendors that typically need to be booked well in advance. Find out each vendor’s pricing and availability as you pick your top options.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to start booking anything just yet. But knowing when the vendors you like are available will help you create a general timeline and think about potential wedding dates.

Think About Your Look

Most people want to look their very best on their wedding day. This makes a lot of sense considering you’ll likely have hundreds of photos taken of you in just a matter of hours! That’s why you shouldn’t hesitate to start thinking about fitness plans and cosmetic improvements as soon as you’re engaged.

If you want to start a fitness program or a new nutrition plan, now is the time. The sooner you start working on it, the better you’ll look come your wedding day. You can also consider other options, like Dr. Honrado’s THERMIlift treatment for repairing saggy or loose skin (great for looking toned after significant weight loss). Other options include spray tanning, teeth whitening, and facial treatments. Start planning ASAP to make sure you have time to get the results you want before your wedding day arrives.

Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so it’s important to start your planning on the right foot. By following these four handy steps, you’ll kick off your engagement with a solid plan for budgeting, planning, and getting in shape.

My YouTube Fan Fest 2016 Experience, Vlog

My YouTube Fan Fest 2016 Experience, Vlog

Hi guys,

So if you follow me on any of my social media, you know I went for the YouTube Fan Fest 2 days ago, thanks to Clean & Clear. I also got to meet AIB and Kaushal, was also going to meet Superwoman (Lily Singh) but got cancelled at the last moment 🙁 I also vlogged my day. Here is the vlog..

The Meet & Greet was 4-5.30 where I first met AIB guys and they were really sweet, Tanmay had a meeting and was not present for the Meet & Greet, missed meeting him.

And then later I met Kaushal from Kaushal Beauty, she is a UK based Gujarati Youtuber and is fabulous with her work, check out her channel HERE. She again was super sweet and I told her how I feel connected to her being a Gujarati Beauty Blogger since there aren’t many, and even she related to that.

I went to the Clean & Clear booth later, where they had fun activities. Like writing ‘What do people think of you as’ on a balloon and then bursting it, for which a GIF was created. And then they had a message wall where you had to write ‘My Pledge To Be Real Is..’

The Fan Fest show started at around 7.15 and it was broadcasted live. If you still haven’t seen it, see it HERE.

I loved AIB, SnG Comedy, EIC, Being Indian and quite a lot of them. But my favourite performace has to be Superwoman’s. It was at the end and what an amazing way to end the show. She gave a power packed performance and you had to hear the cheering from the crowd, it was insane! Second favourite was Sanam Official, love their band, love their songs, especially ‘Gulabi Aankein’.

Overall, it was quite fun and I loved being at the YouTube Fan Fest.

My Year: 2015 Rewind

My Year: 2015 Rewind

Hi guys,

It’s the last day of the year 2015. 2015 was a mixed bag for me, 2014 Dec I got married so it was all supposed to be rosy and good, but in mid Jan itself I met with the accident which has in many ways changed my life and for the bad. The six months post the accident were terrible, can say the worst period of my life. I was affected even emotionally and mentally more than physically. Relationships were also strained coz of all the pain and stress. I used to get the accident nightmares every single night and whenever I was free or unoccupied. I tried keeping myself occupied and worked a lot, so that I did not have any free time. I even started my YouTube channel in June (Subscribe if you still haven’t!)

Things are better now, we shifted to a new place this month and also celebrated our first wedding anniversary. I am gaining back the lost confidence slowly, but I still feel afraid of doing many things so as to not aggravate my pain. I still get back ache if I sit without back support, so that does happen while clicking pictures or filming or anything like that. I need to take a break in between. I haven’t exercised or anything since ages except my Physiotherapy which I did very religiously with weights, etc. coz I wanted to be normal and walking super soon! Ever since I got back, I have been super lazy, I had ordered ankle weights and have my light dumbbells too which should be put to good use now, since the body has had enough rest and will complete one year to the accident in mid Jan.

Also I do everything on the blog from clicking the pictures to editing to writing the posts all by myself and it is difficult! When you cannot even see if you are in focus or not and all such stuff, managing alone is difficult. So I just opened the blog to new voices and new writers this mid November (Click HERE to know more). These last 2-3 months have been amazing career/work wise when it comes to blogs and collaborations/social media. I hope this was the stepping stone to 2016, 2017 and many more years to come. Brands are also realizing the importance of blogs, bloggers and social media which is great! Coz that was the only area where India lagged behind.

I did not travel much this year coz of the accident, just one Goa trip with Blogadda in mid June and this month we went to Jaipur. I hope to travel a lot more in 2016.

Also social media is doing really good, I crossed 8700 followers on my Twitter, 13000 on my Instagram, 10600 on my Facebook, also all genuine unlike the trend of ‘buying followers’ that is being followed by many new followers 😀 And the PR don’t even know, it is so easy to make out! Snapchat is doing really good too (Add me @bhumika_t) I also joined Periscope and do few monthly beams on the Fame app too. My Klout Score has been 72, even touched 74 in between 😀 So, social media wise I can only see it going ahead and ahead with the number of new things coming up everyday 🙂

Anyhoo, this was the small recap of my and the blog’s 2015 🙂 How has your year been? Let me know in the comments below. And Happy New Year!! 🙂

P.S: This OOTD was clicked during Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014, but never went on the blog somehow. I am currently loving this bird print peter pan collar white dress again 🙂

The Importance of Diwali

The Importance of Diwali

Hi guys,

I know this is off topic but Diwali is coming soon and I realized that Diwali for us somehow has lost its charm, especially for me. It is not the same as before, the fun we had when we were kids.

My memories of Diwali have been buying different colors for rangoli, a stencil, selecting a design from the book and all the preparation of making a brown base and then making a rangoli which took 2-3 hours. Decorating the whole house with lights and diyas, spending those 3-4 days with the entire family, the Diwali Pooja, dadi teaching us how to make kajal using ghee and an earthen pot on Kaali Chaudas, the lunch I had with my brother on Bhai Dooj, the Laxmi Pooja on Diwali and lighting some phooljadis for shagan (I had stopped using the loud crackers long back after seeing the pollution and the streets filled with remnants and how scared the dogs would be)

And then finally on the last day of ‘New Year’, going to every friend and family member’s place to wish them Happy New Year and they coming at our place.

But now, things have changed so drastically, people look forward to relaxing those 3 days of holidays. Forget going to each other’s place to wish New Year, there are no phone calls too and we end up wishing everyone on Whatsapp. There is no time for rangolis, we hardly spend time with families and lights are just for name sake to show Diwali.

I saw this video recently where this old grandfather was missing his grandchild and how he used to spend Diwali with her. And guess what, the dadu gets the best surprise of his life. What do you think the surprise is? Yes, she probably is coming to meet him this Diwali!

Perfectly timed, Lufthansa has unveiled its #DiwaliSurprise campaign which gives you an opportunity to fly to the one you love! It also gives you an opportunity to help brighten a child’s life by just registering your wish – so awesome! 😀

Fly away to be with the one you love – your friend and you could both win a ticket with your Diwali wish and also your wish will add Diwali lights to illuminate a Lufthansa plane – a digital marvel to behold on the Festival of Lights!

So click HERE and send your wishes quickly to your loved ones this Diwali 🙂

Share your Diwali memories in the comments below

The Start – Up Life

The Start – Up Life

Hi guys,

No, I haven’t started any start – up yet :p This post is about the problems faced by start – ups and entrepreneurs all around the world, especially in their day to day life.

Startups get a lot of press. They have to overcome several challenges to taste success. Like they say, “Ek aag ka dariya hai, aur doob ke jaana hai” (You have to swim through fire to get to your destination).
Well, I am not the stero-typical startup founder, hell bent on solving a billion dollar problem or evangelising whatever comes my way. But there is one thing, which overlaps with startups to a large extent – Entrepreneurship from scratch. In fact, rather than the websites or mobile apps they build, it is the rags to riches story which is more important to learn from.
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and leaving a cozy job with a private coaching classes, I took the plunge couple of years back to be a full time blogger. Sharing my 0.02$ on the problems I encountered along the way;
a) Aap ki beti karti kya hai?
It is the most difficult thing in the world to explain your Baroda wali masi what “Blogging” is all about. Forget talking about monetisation, sponsored content, social media, followers, etc etc. I have a very convenient solution for this – I am practicing as a Chartered Accountant (This is the bare minimum use of my 5 years of hard work for completing CA)
b) $$$$$$
Ok. So now you have developed a loyal visitor base. Google knows that you know some cool stuff about beauty, makeup, etc. But how do you monetise all of that? Ad sense is going down the drain since quite some time now. And then you start getting these nightmares. Did I screw up by choosing to come out of my comfort zone? Should I go back to the 9 to 5 job and a stable income?
c) Peer pressure
Facebook updates, LinkedIn updates. Someone just got promoted to a manager. Someone has shifted to Dubai. Someone is out on a foreign business trip. Wow. People from my batch are doing awesome in life. They are earning 7 figure salaries. And how much am I earning? Shit. I am not even close. <Panic mode>
And the list goes on and on…..
But at the end of the day, all said & done, Entrepreneurship is the most satisfying thing ever. To quote Liquid guru from Pyar ka Punchnama, “Kutto ka koi Sunday nahi hota, Kutte Har Din Kutte hi hote hai”.
Entrepreneuship gives you the freedom, flexibility & potential, way more than a 16th century Bell Curve policy determined 7% increment and a rigid corporate structure ever will. :p
Here is a fun video that shows some start- up problems made by www.vistaprint.in

As you saw, the CEO himself is the assistant, secretary, peon, etc. all in one. From the lunch buffet and high tea at five star hotels to the vada pav and cutting chai, the transition is very difficult!

Are you a part of the start – up life? What problems do you face daily?
P.S: I am loving the TVF Pitchers and desperately waiting for the final 5th episode which will be live this Sunday, have you seen it yet?

Barter It on Faida.com

Barter It on Faida.com

I believe in saving resources which in turn will help us save the environment. We do not have to wait for ‘Environment Day ‘to work on this, but everyday through our little actions we can surely help do so. In my endeavor to recycle and reuse things I came across Faida.com. Faida.com is an online barter site that helps you barter products you don’t need.

The old barter system which was predominant many years ago has now been revived by http://www.faida.com/ .With the boom in technology this has become easier. Bartering on the website works on the follow way and the instructions shared by the website are easy to follow.

You have to list your unwanted items at Faida.com. Then select item/items of your interest offered by another user. You then send an exchange request to that user. When your request is accepted, meet them up and inspect each other’s items, exchange or reject items. Faida advices its customers to exchange within the city to ensure that both sides meet each other and ensure that they are getting what they need.

The website is user friendly and has many features to make bartering enjoyable and simple. There are two categories get what you want and give want you want. You can exchange items like mobiles and tablets, electronics, music, movie and gaming, services, books and services, clothing, language and accessories, office and stationery, sports, fitness and outdoor, kitchen and dining, kids and baby items.

So there is a lot to choose from. The website also has a recommendation section where they inform of the different products that will be available for a short time as they are likely be bartered soon.

I recommend any one who really wants to declutter your home and get something in exchange then listing products on faida.com will be very beneficial for them. This works better as no cash is involved and exchanging is better than buying/ selling because it promotes recycling or reusability.

How to decide upon Indian bridal Trousseau and Jewellery

How to decide upon Indian bridal trousseau and jewellery

A lot of effort goes in wedding preparations, especially in India. Apart from the event preparations, the bride takes extra effort to decide upon her wedding trousseau and the jewellery which she will wear on the wedding day.

Considering the wedding is once in a lifetime affair, people have known to go extra lengths to make it special and grand. Go through these guidelines and make the right decision when it comes to deciding upon the wedding jewellery and trousseau which match with each other quite well.

Jadtar (Kundan) Set

Wedding is a very special occasion that requires the bride to look not only very beautiful but best as well. An Indian wedding requires the bride to be dressed up in fine apparel and in the best of jewellery, usually made of precious metals such as gold, platinum, and silver and so on. Apart from this, the jewellery worn could be encrusted with precious and semi precious stones such as diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires to name the popular ones. Amongst the wedding preparations, shopping for the bridal trousseau and accessories does take up most of the effort and time.

How to decide on what to wear on your wedding day?

White Gold and Diamond Set

There are great deals of factors that need to be discussed when deciding the wedding attire. The attire has to match with the partner’s wedding dress and the wedding theme in general. Along with the cost factor, the time of the year and location of the wedding does seem important. If it’s a summer wedding, it would best to wear light wedding attire comprising of lightweight chiffons, georgettes, crepes and other flowing materials. In case of a winter wedding, the wedding attire could comprise of silks in varied varieties such as raw silk, tussar, pure silk along with heavy brocade borders and so on.

Similarly, the wedding trousseau gets influenced by the colours of the season. For instance, it’s the pastels and bright summer shades which are preferred during the summer while winter calls for rich colours with darker hues giving a feeling of coziness and warmth.

Consequently, the jewellery is determined, which gives a great final look to the bride. When deciding upon the jewellery, gold and diamond are extremely popular and preferred. In fact, gold jewellery is often given to the bride by her parents as well as those of the groom. Apart from that, Indian bridal jewellery also comprises of jewellery sets in regional themes such as Jadtar sets, Kundan sets, Thewa sets and so on.

Gone are the days when people used to visit a traditional jeweler or request a home visit from a traditional jeweler and spend hours together deciding upon the ornaments design and final look. Today, you can look forward to shop online for jewellery and placed a customised order as well. With a plethora of branded jewellery stores having an online presence, you can browse through the umpteen collections on offer before you shop for one.

If you have found a couple of ornament pieces of your liking, you could even request for a physical inspection of the same at a store located near to your residence. Also, check out on their customer service, exchange and return policy too. You also need to make sure they provide an accurate bill relating to your purchase mentioning the exact details of your piece of jewellery including the weight, purity and carat details of the metals and the precious stones used. At the same time, you can also ask for customer testimonials which could add more weight to their reputation too. On the overall, purchasing jewellery online is quite safe and reliable too.

I would suggest going for kundan or jadtar sets in yellow gold for the main wedding function if you are a Punjabi or a Gujurati bride, temple jewellery for something with raw silk sarees, etc. i.e. if you are a South Indian bride and the white gold and diamond sets for the reception/cocktail with a gown or an Ind0-western wear for everyone 🙂

Tips on Buying Furniture Online

Tips on Buying Furniture Online

Hi guys,

So just after our wedding, I and my husband shifted to a new place near to his office and it was an unfurnished rented place. We had to buy all the necessary furniture and here is how we did it:

1. Jot down the necessary furniture items

Start with noting down what all you need, like for a house with 2 people, the basic furniture you would need is a sofa, center table,TV unit, bed and a wardrobe. You may need more cupboards/storage drawers if you have more stuff. Also, a dressing table can be skipped if the wardrobe has a mirror. A dining table can be skipped as it would also occupy too much space. Buy a center table and bed which has storage inside.

2. Budget

Keep a budget in mind for each and every item and/or the combined total i.e. how much maximum would you prefer spending on furniture. Also, if a house is rented, does not make sense to invest in a lot of furniture, but if you have your own house, then of course, it makes sense to allot a higher budget.

3. Quality

If you are buying some few key pieces, make sure that you get good quality and it lasts you a long time. Cheap stuff may sound alluring at first but will hardly last you an year or so, and then you have to keep on re-purchasing new stuff every year. Rather invest in good quality, durable furniture.

4. Design & Style

You will find 100’s of designs out there, also when you buy online, you get confused looking at so many options. For e.g. In a sofa, there is 3+ 2 seats and there is an L shaped combined one. Keep the corners of your house in mind, measure the area and then suitably select something which will look the best. Even after the design is shortlisted, there are different patterns, different materials, etc. to choose from. Go for something which is durable. Avoid whites if the furniture is going to be used a lot since it will be dirty quite soon and end up looking muddy and lose its charm, though whites are classic and difficult to say NO to, but keep all the factors in mind.

There are a lot of websites which sell furniture online, but buy from someone you trust or have purchased before from. I would say, try buying 1-2 small things at first and get to know the site, delivery, quality, returns, etc., before purchasing everything at once.

Once you find a correct, trustworthy site, then just place your order and your life is simple! Durian offers free delivery and free assembly, easy EMI options and 5 year warranty! Also, 90% of the stuff is made in India.  I have often been to Durian stores and my family has purchased quite a lot of stuff from Durian since the time of its inception. I know how reliable, sturdy and trustworthy Durian furniture is.

Now you can get Durian online http://www.durian.in/, it’s #JustAClickAway 🙂
