MY REVIEW

The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge comes in a thick synthetic plastic sort of a material which is sturdy but not good enough for storing the sponge. So I believe you have to use proper storage for the sponge. The sponge is bright orange in color but with passage of time and regular usage, I have seen the color fading but it never deposits any chemical on the face. Coming to the most important part of the sponge, the shape. It has a unique shape of conical end with flat top edge. The RT sponge is considered to be a step-sister of the Beauty Blender which works pretty much same like this. The sponge is bigger is shape (compared to my PAC Beauty Blender) and I feel this one is much easier to work with.

When first touched the sponge as soon as I opened the box, it felt small but the moment you run it under tap water and squeeze it, it increases in size, almost 40 to 50% of the original size. It also feels firm yet soft enough to gentle on the skin. I have used it under eyes and it has never been hard and irritating to blend. The firmness ensure that the sponge isn’t easily going to tear down while using and washing and the softness is great enough to blend. The sponge also doesn’t absorb too much product even if it is a liquid foundation or liquid concealer. In this way, it doesn’t sheer out the coverage of the product as well and deposit and blend the color on the skin.

Also, I apply the foundation on the skin with the help of fingers and then blend with the sponge well. The pointy end of the sponge is great for under eyes. It reaches out to the difficult portions like inner corners and sides well and blend beautifully. The dome shaped body is great for dabbing the color on the skin and blend them. The flat edge is ideal for covering the larger areas easily. The sponge is also a good one for apply mineral powder foundations and even compacts! I have applied powders for baking and also blended strobing cream on the highest points. It works as good as brushes and sometimes even better than brushes.

The cleaning of the sponge is also easy. In a small bowl, I fill in with baby shampoo or any gentle shampoo and mix water with it to form a solution. I soak the sponge for some time and gentle rub the sides to clean off. It easily washes off and doesn’t tear out. The takes some time to dry out completely but never loses the shape at all. This is why it is durable and it is going to last preferably a very long time for me even though I use it twice or thrice a week. The RT sponge has been compared with the stepsister Beauty Blender numerous times and since I don’t have the latter I can’t comment on it. But one thing I would say that RT Sponge is easily available on discount but Beauty Blender is way too expensive for a sponge.

OVERALL – Thus, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is a makeup sponge which would give you a flawless finish for the base and coverage as well. it takes very less time and makes the application as easy as it can be. Whether you are a pro or a beginner, this is surely a must have tool for you.

WHAT I LIKED

  • Good quality.
  • Proper and innovative size.
  • Doesn’t absorb too much product.
  • Gives a seamless base.
  • Makes the application easy.
  • Less time consuming.
  • Great for every product – foundation, concealer, powder, highlighter and contour.
  • Easily washable.

WHAT I DISLIKED

  • None

RATING – 9/10

Editor’s Note: I have never tried this, my PAC one also tore in the first 1-2 washes itself. I absolutely love the YBP Makeup Perfector, it’s my favourite and makes blending everything super easy and seamless. I might try this sometime, have heard a lot about it.

Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Set Review

Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Set Review

By Sanchita

INTRODUCTION – Brushes are the best investment for makeup and it is very important to buy good quality long lasting brushes. When I say good brushes, all I can think of is MAC, Sigma, Inglot or Zoeva. Now, most of the brands are unavailable in India or too costly for a beginner.

But, Real Techniques brushes are both inexpensive as well as have great quality. After using their Expert brush and Powder brush, I picked up the Core Collection Brush Set at a recently sale. Here is my review after using it for a month.

MY REVIEW

Packaging – The Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Set comes in a black panoramic case which is very sturdy. It has a Velcro lock system and has a light weight feature as well. The brush can be stored inside the elastic bands which helps to hold the brushes. It is so easy to store as well as travel with this case. If you are taking a short trip, I would highly recommend this set as it caters the basic needs for base and lips makeup. Coming to the brush, they are packed in the typical ‘RT’ packaging. All the four brushes has the burnt bronze ferrules with black silicone handles for easy grip. The overall look for the case and brushes has a very ascetically pleasing yet a professional touch which I love a lot. The brushes are not unnecessarily bulky and is also light weight. All in all, the packaging is surely a thumbs up.

Bristles – This is one quality of Real Techniques brushes which make me go weak for them. The bristles are made of synthetic taklon and 100% cruelty free. The brushes are a dream to touch and has the extra plushy feel to it. This is why it applies and blend the products like a dream. Also, every brush is hand cut and the shape is so perfect that it can be put it a number of uses.

Brushes in details –

Contour brush – The contour brush is a gem! It comes with a round base and tapered top and fits so perfectly on the hollows of the cheeks. I used to use the angled brushes before but this one blends like a dream. In fact, it has various uses as well. The shape of the brush is neither small nor big and thus you can use it for various ways as well. Firstly, I use to blend the highlighter and it flawlessly blends both powder and cream products. You can also apply the blush precisely on the apple of the cheeks or when you simply want a flush of color. The brush has a fluffy nature and can be used to swipe off powder on the areas like under the eyes without poking the sensitive area at all. You can also blend bronzers on the forehead and sides of the face as well.

Pointed foundation brush – This is the least favorite of mine in the kit and definitely a decent one. The brush has a pointy head with a flat base. It resembles the general flat foundation brush but is much smaller in size. Due to this, it can only be used to apply the foundation of concealers but blending will take forever. Due to the small size of the brush, I use it to apply and blend concealer under the eyes using light pat motion. You can also use it to apply powder for baking the areas where you have applied concealer. Highlighting with this brush is also an easy task and I apply powder highlighter on the difficult areas like bridge of the nose, inner corners, etc.

Detailer brush – This is my favorite brush and I am so in love with it! A small detailer brush is important in every makeup kit and if the bristles are as soft as these, you have to love it. The detailer brush is very small with a flat edge and tapered top – pretty much like a miniature version of the pointed foundation brush in the set. This brush is a life saver when you want to spot conceal any flaw, correct that wing liner or apply concealer around the mouth. It reaches up to every difficult corner and blends beautifully. I have applied eye shadows with this and both cream and powder applies seamlessly. You can also apply and blend colors on the lash line and inner corners as well. This brush can also be used for the lips as well. Overall, it is a multipurpose one.

Buffing brush – RT Buffing Brush is a famous one. This brush is the largest of the four and has a round base with the fluffy top and great for buffing any cream, liquid or powder foundations. It blends out everything evenly and properly as well. The brush seems to be a sister of the RT Expert brush which is slightly dense and tightly packed than this one but performs more or less same. This Buffing brush works great for blending the bronzer or contouring as well. You can even use it to blend blush or highlighters. While blending and buffing everything, the brush reaches out to the corners as well due to the fluffiness and softness of the bristles.

Durability – If a makeup brush isn’t durable, it is no point using it. However, with RT the story is different, the brushes are extremely sturdy and nice to deal with. I have been constantly using them for a month now and till now have washed 3-4times. The brushes have never shed a single bristle, lost the shape or even cleans up pretty well. I generally use the baby shampoo and swirl on the palm to clean it properly. The bristles are synthetic taklon bristles and thus one you soak all the water on a cotton tee, the brush around 1hr to dry (small brushes take less than an hour) overall. Therefore, I am extremely pleased to use these Real Techniques brushes.

OVERALL- The Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Set comes with four brushes with multipurpose use of them and works like a charm for everyone. The bristles are soft, well-trimmed and blends everything profusely. Be it a beginner or professional, this is kit is highly recommended.

WHAT I LIKED

  • Sturdy case and brushes.
  • All the four brushes has the burnt bronze ferrules with black silicone handles.
  • The set has all 4 brushes – contour, foundation, buffing and detailing.
  • Multipurpose use.
  • Extremely durable brushes.
  • Never sheds a single bristle or loses the shape.
  • Easy to wash and dry.

WHAT I DISLIKED

  • None.

RATING – 9/10
