Top 5 Patanjali Products in India

By Sanchita

Ayurvedic medicines have its roots in India and no matter how much we rave about luxury cosmetics, we always find our way back to herbal skincare. Patanjali have reached out everywhere in India and has been acknowledged as one of the most popular herbal brand. The range is wide and covers everything – from skincare, cosmetics, haircare and even health issues. Their availability is good if you have a store nearby and they are also expanding. Thankfully, there is a store near my place and I got to try several products from the brand. There are such products I always repurchase as it is beyond commendable.

Here’s my top 5 Patanjali Products for you all.

1. Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel – (75 INR for 150ml)

This is the product which grabbed my attention on the brand. I have used a lot of moisturizer for oily skin, but this is one exceptional products that worked wonder for my skin. it has a refreshing fragrance and gives a soothing sensation to the skin. The absorption takes no time at all and makes the skin hydrated yet matte. I also face some discoloration issue around the mouth due to threading but this one has eliminated a lot after a prolonged usage. You require a very tiny amount for face and neck and makes the skin smooth, supple and hydrated. It is a must-have for oily and acne prone skin.

2. Patanjali Divya Kanti Lep – (60 INR for 50 gm)

This is sort of face pack powder that needs to be applied as a paste mixed with rose water. The Ayurvedic blend of ingredients helps to rid of skin problems like removing dark spots, pimples, acne and other signs of ageing and giving your skin a natural and healthy glow. It contains the goodness of Haldi, Manjeeth, Chandan, Aloe Vera, Jalphal, Kapoor, etc. My stubborn acne marks starting fading off when I had diligently used this product thrice a week. The results are surely effective and it is another praiseworthy product from this brand I have used.

3. Patanjali Divya Badam Rogan Almond Oil – (100 INR for 60 ml)

I must have exhausted 10-12 bottles of this one and so you can imagine my love for this. From skin care to hair care, I incorporate the product literally everywhere. I have dark circles and extremely dehydrated eye area and I use the almond oil regular before bedtime. During winter months, I apply this on my dry patches to sooth and rejuvenate them. For hair, I sometimes used it with a concoction of coconut oil or sometimes alone. It can also be used as makeup remover and highly effective for eyes. The price is reasonably price and also one of the bets almond oil I have used.

4. Patanjali Kesh Kanti Milk Protein Hair Cleanser – (95 INR for 200ml)

Shampoos often dry out the hair but this one is exceptional. It has the goodness of bhringraj, mehendi, neem, tulsi and aloe Vera which works magically on my heat-damaged lifeless mane. It effectively cleanses the scalp of any layer of dirt, grime, oil and sweat and makes the hair nourished and soft. It lathers well and has a pleasant aroma to it. It works great for normal to dry hair and meritoriously balances the moisture level of the hair.

5. Patanjali Amla Juice – (100 INR for 1litre)

Sometimes you have to take care of the skin from inside. Living in a world of delicious junk food, our digestive system often takes a toll and results in various skin problems like acne, pigmentation, dehydration, dullness, etc. Patanjali Amla Juice, 20ml per day, is an excellent choice for a healthy juice which is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. From healthy skin to hair – Amla can improve the health in every way. It also boosts my metabolism and keeps the weight in control and has cured my hair loss problem completely. The taste is a slight put-off but the product will do miracle for your health.

So, which is your favorite Patanjali product?

Editor’s Note: My husband swears by Patanjali products, Aloe vera juice and jams being his favourites. I haven’t tried any of their beauty or skincare products but the Aloe Vera gel is definitely on my list, will check these out too. Nice compilation Sanchita 🙂

Wella Professionals Elements Range Launch & First Impressions

Wella Professionals Elements Range Launch & First Impressions

Hi guys,

A few ago I attended a new launch by Wella Professionals, the Elements Range at House of Tales in Kala Ghoda. It was launched by Wella Innovation Expert Dr.Kerstin Meyer Lipp and the Elements Range Brand Ambassador Nimrat Kaur.

Since it is all about green, forest and natural, the theme was white and green and the entire setup was white and green too. We were even sent a ‘Peace Lily’ plant invite in a white tea pot which is extremely cute and useful. I have kept it in my balcony 🙂

Wella Professionals introduced Elements to the Indian market ; it is the first Wella Professionals range of care products which are free of sulfates, parabens and artificial colorants. Wella Professionals has  also specially created a new fragrance, inspired by the green wood’s of the Amazon forest.

Wella Professionals Elements is inspired by nature to provide up to ten times more strength against breakage* for renewed hair vitality. Wella Professionals Elements protects the integral keratin structure, keeping your hair shiny and healthy, but without some of the chemicals usually associated with hair care products. Keratin is the principal component of hair – a protein which acts as the building blocks of the hair. If the keratin is degenerated, the hair will become weak and will lose its shine.

Sulfates, parabens and artificial colorants are commonly used, safe ingredients in hair care and have been extensively tested but some people wish to avoid them, so the scientists at Wella Professionals have developed the exclusive NuTREE complex.

The NuTree complex is enriched with natural tree extract – a powerful antioxidant which helps reduce free radical damage. Sustainably sourced in Germany, the natural tree extract also has anti-irritant properties to balance and calm the scalp.

The natural tree extract is joined by panthenol, also known as pro-vitamin B5, which penetrates deeply into the hair to repair the inner keratin cell structure and bind moisture in the hair. The result is hair which looks smooth, healthy and is nourished from the roots to the tips.

Commenting on this addition to the Wella Professional range of Products, Wella Innovation Expert Dr.Kerstin Meyer Lipp said, “I think natural products have made their way back in fashion. People are becoming increasingly aware of the ingredients contained in the products that they use in everyday life– such as hair care products. As part of trying to live a healthy lifestyle, they are now looking for more natural alternatives which contain fewer chemicals, but do not compromise on performance.”

Nimrat Kaur talked about how she goes through a lot of heat and hair styling and dozens of chemicals in those hair styling products, on an everyday basis. And she would love to use something natural and free of chemicals as her scalp is quite sensitive and something that soothes and calms the sensitive scalp is perfect for her. She tried the Wella Pro Elements Range over her oiled, styled hair and was astonished by the results.

On the first row listening attentively like a student 🙂
With Vipra and Aditi

I have used it 3-4 times till now and here are my first impressions.

Claims: Renew hair vitality and reveal its natural beauty. Elements’ NuTREE complex helps to repair and protect hair from keratin degeneration and is perfectly suited for colored hair.

Renewing Shampoo Claims: Sulfate free shampoo that renews the moisture of the hair, preserving and nourishing it from root to tip. Exists in 30 ml, 250 ml, 1000 ml.

HOW TO USE: Apply to damp hair and massage gently into a lather. Rinse thoroughly.

TEXTURE: Luxurious foaming experience

Ingredients:

MRP: Rs.975/- for 250ml

Renewing Mask Claims: Paraben free repairing mask that intensively restores and preserves the natural inner structure and strength of the hair. Exists in 30 ml, 150 ml, 500 ml.

HOW TO USE: Apply after shampooing. Massage and leave for 5 minutes. Rinse out.

TEXTURE: Extra lightweight cream

Ingredients:

MRP: Rs.1075/- fro 150ml

It comes in a white bottle with green plant picture on the packaging. It is a flip cap bottle and let me warn you that it is not travel friendly. I carried it along on my recent trip to Jaipur and it messed up my entire bag :/ If we intend to carry it with you, make sure you tape or seal the cap, then you are good to go.

The mask comes in a tub packaging that is safe to carry around and easy to store and use.

The shampoo is transparent and slightly runny in texture. It has this woody, foresty smell which I really liked. It foams like nobody’s business. It will help you get rid of all the oil in one go, but if your hair is quite oily or dirty or if you are using hard water, you may need to shampoo twice. I had to use it twice in Jaipur with the hard water.

The renewing mask is thick and white in color and it has the normal ‘shampoo’ fresh smell. The mask is quite hydrating and nice, it controlled my frizz even in super cold climate.

Using both the shampoo and mask together gave soft, smooth, hydrated, frizz free hair. But make sure you do not use too much of the mask or it will weigh your hair down.

I am really happy that this range is sulphates and parabens free. If you have straightened/colored your hair or have gone for cysteine or anything such, this range is perfect for you as going sulphate free will keep the color/straight effect for a longer duration.

L- Mask, R- Shampoo

Plus sulphate free is anyway good for all types of hair, just that it takes a few washes for the benefit to show on your hair since the hair is so used to the normal sulphate shampoos.

Though the range is slightly on the expensive side, it is like an investment to maintain your color/cysteine.

Wella Elements is available in all leading salons across India such as Jean Claude Biguine, Affinity, Bodycraft, Toni & Guy , Strands, Tresslounge and Headturners.

What do you think about Wella Elements Pro? Which sulphate free range do you use? Will you try this range? Do let me know in the comments below.

TRESemmé Ionic Strength Range Shampoo, Conditioner Review

TRESemmé Ionic Strength Range Shampoo, Conditioner Review

Hi guys,

So after I finished using the Dove Oxygen Moisture Range, I tried this new TRESemme Ionic Strength Range and here is my review.

What the Company claims:  This innovative range is inspired from salon treatments that “reconstruct”and “repair” hair that has been exposed to styling and in the process, weakened and damaged. The Advanced IONIC Complex in this new range nourishes the hair and forms a protective shield, allowing it to withstand the potential damage due to heat styling tools and frequent brushing, while also reinforcing hair’s natural strength. Gentle enough for daily use, TRESemméIonic Strength ensures your hair is strong and beautifully soft making it manageable, like you have just stepped out of a salon.

How does the product work?

Using an electric appliance on your hair can damage it. Damaged hair has more negative charge. TRESemmé Ionic Strength technology with ionic complex contains positively charged ingredients which get attracted to the negatively charged damaged hair, making it smoother. When used with Ionic Strength conditioner it helps restore and nourish your hair, reinforcing its natural protection to damage.

MRP: TRESemmé Ionic Strength Shampoo 190ml Rs. 185, 580ml Rs. 415

TRESemmé Ionic Strength Conditioner 85ml Rs. 94,  190ml Rs. 185

Ingredients Shampoo:

Ingredients Conditioner:

It comes in the trademark TRESemme black and white packaging with a press button flip to open and shut. Also it has the same runny white shampoo and a thick white conditioner as the other TRESemme ranges. Smells also almost the same. My favourite TRESemme Range was the Split End Remedy one, that reminds me it’s been ages I have not used that and should try that again soon!

The shampoo foams amazingly well and cleans your scalp and hair nicely, it is very hydrating and moisturising, so it actually would hydrate the dry, damaged hair as claimed. I don’t have dry hair and neither is my hair chemically treated or colored, so I did not see much of a difference in that. But it definitely left my hair softer and smoother, only thing being since my hair is not dry, rich shampoos kind of weigh my hair down and I do not get volume and bounce.

I love volume in my hair and the Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo actually used to give me amazing volume, since I used this shampoo directly after Dove, it was a straight comparision in my head and that is the only thing I don’t really like in this shampoo. However the same thing is a boon for dry, damaged hair.

Conditioner is rich and hydrating again, it untangles all the knots left while washing the hair and makes your fingers slide through the hair easily. I do like rich conditioners especially for the end parts of the hair and I quite like this.

At Rs.185/- it is slightly expensive than other shampoos and conditioners, but the difference is not much. I like it when brand has different sizes available and the smaller ones are perfect for travel.

Overall I would say, if you have dry, damaged hair, use a lot of heat, coloring, etc, this range will work really well on your hair. However, if your hair is normal, not very dry and you are not into coloring or heat, I would suggest using the Dove Oxygen Moisture Range. If I have to choose one for myself, I would go with Dove. I like this range but it is not my favourite

Ingredients:

Dove Oxygen Moisture Conditioner

Directions to use:

1. After shampooing, apply along the lengths of wet hair, focusing on ends.

2. Keep for 1-3 minutes and rinse off thoroughly.

3. Use conditioner every time you shampoo for beautiful, smoother hair

MRP: Rs.91/80 ml. Rs. 194/180 ml (Buy Dove Conditioner)

Ingredients:

I have already shared a mini review of this in my August favourites YouTube video HERE. I have been using it since more than a month now. This is the first Dove shampoo that is in transparent, gel form. The packaging of  both the shampoo and conditioner is like the usual Dove range with a flip top cap. This one is white and blue.

Also the transparent gel like formula of the shampoo has a slight blue tint. The conditioner is white and creamy and rich like usual conditioners.

Now I have used Dove quite a lot and it has always worked for me, but many told me Dove gives them major hairfall. The only reason I see is that the Dove shampoos were always very rich and if someone has thin or fragile hear prone to breakage, the richness of the shampoo would be weighing down the hair causing breakage. I have never experienced any hairfall with any of the Dove ranges though. But this range is perfect for all of you did not like the previous ranges, coz this is very light and not that rich.

This shampoo will not weigh your hair down and will not give any hairfall. In fact I love the way it cleanses thoroughly and gives a nice bounce and volume to the hair. The conditioner is rich though but if you apply it only towards the ends, it should work. And the hair will retain the bounce.

I love the fresh smell of both the shampoo and conditioner. My hair is well behaved from the time I have been using this combination. There have been no frizz issues and I get the desired volume and bounce too with the smoothness of course.

Sorry I am unable to find the swatch pics in the folder, would update later.

I am happy with the price point too, and these smaller bottles are good to carry for a trip too.

Overall, I am loving this range and definitely recommend giving it a shot.

L’Oreal Professionnel Hair Spa Deep Nourishing Shampoo,Conditioner Review

L’Oreal Professionnel Hair Spa Deep Nourishing Shampoo,Conditioner Review

What the Company claims: L’Oreal Professionnel’s HAIR SPA helps heal your hair from root to tip, so that your hair looks beautiful inside and out. Hair Spa, is now infused with the soothing and calming Water Lily, to give you an even more relaxing and restorative experience. Known for its hydrating and therapeutic properties, Water lily helps relieve pressure, for a soothing experience.

MRP:

Hair Spa Deep nourishing shampoo: Rs. 400/- for 230ml

Hair Spa Deep nourishing conditioner: Rs. 400/- for 200ml

Shampoo claims and Directions to use:

Shampoo Ingredients:

Conditioner claims and Directions to use:

Conditioner Ingredients:

L’Oreal Professionnel Hair Spa comes in two variants: Deep Nourishing and a Detox range. This Deep Nourishing range has Water Lily extracts and is meant for dry hair and the Detox one is infused with tea tree oil for people with oily scalp and dandruff issues.

I have been using this L’Oreal Professionnel Hair Spa Deep Nourishing Range since 3 weeks now. I had a lot of expectations from this range after trying out and falling in love with the Absolut Repair Lipidium Range.

I love the bright blue packaging with the grey cap, it is very nice to look at and you can find out your shampoo from the lot in the bathroom :p The shampoo has a flip cap packaging and comes in this long, slender bottle and the conditioner comes in a tube packaging with a screw cap.

The shampoo is off white in color and runny in form, the conditioner is white and thicker. Both smell very refreshing, very close to soft, floral, water lily. A mix of aquatic and floral, I love the smell!

The shampoo foams really well and gets rid of all the oil and dirt in the hair within one wash. Quite impressed here. The hair is completely clean in one wash. If you have oily scalp, you will really like this. Even though this range is meant for dry skin, it is not heavy and creamy kind but very light.

The conditioner is hydrating but not very heavy,it won’t weigh down your hair. It is not the most hydrating conditioner out there, but does a decent job for someone with normal to dry hair, and would work perfectly for oily hair too. If you have very dry hair or prefer a heavy conditioner, then you would need something extra.

Hair remains soft, smooth and frizz free with this range for 2 days untill you wash next. There is no oiliness and no dryness. If you have drier ends, you will need to use a serum on the ends. Even though its meant for dry hair, it is not the deep hydrating kind, and that makes this range perfect for summers.

Price wise, they are decently priced and quite economical for the quantity. The bottles are huge and not travel friendly though. Also, the availability of the Professionnel range is an issue, and is only available on selected online sites or in salons.

Only downside is it has SLS and silicones, also I see ‘Mineral Oil’ 3rd in the Ingredients list in the Conditioner which I am not too pleased with.

Overall, I would say this range is good for summers and would work for all kinds of hair from oily to dry. It cleanses the scalp well and leaves the hair soft, smooth and frizz free. It is mild enough for everyday use too. If you have very dry hair, I would recommend the L’Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Lipidium Range. I would prefer using this range for summers and the Absolut Range for winters. If you have chemically treated or colored hair, I wouldn’t advise using this as it has SLS.

Shampoo MRP: Rs.575/- for 250ml (Buy HERE)

Ingredients:

Masque MRP: Rs.675/- for 196g (Buy HERE)

Ingredients:

I had received this combo of shampoo and masque in December, then there was this whole wedding and honeymoon thing. We went to Hong Kong, Macau and Andamans, basically 2 totally different places with dramatically different climatic conditions and water. By the end of my honeymoon, my hair felt like straw! And it is very rare that my hair feel so :/ So, you can feel the situation.

Cut to Dec end, when I came back, I saw this combo waiting for me at my place. I was like, let’s give it a try. Since this is meant for dry, damaged hair, maybe it can work the magic on my hair.

I tried it once AND kaboom!! My hair was back to normal, super soft and bouncy. I was surprised. Maybe it was both the water here in Mumbai and the shampoo that brought my hair back to life. But then, I cannot take away all the credit from these beauties.

The shampoo comes in a trademark L’Oreal Professionnel Expert Series shape bottle and both shampoo and masque are bronw in color. Actually, L’Oreal Professionel has different ranges, so usually salon people also distinguish on the basis of color. When they ask me which shampoo do I use, and I say Absolut Repair Lipidium, they say aahh the brown bottle, so I was like ya.

Masque comes in a long jar. Shampoo is runny and the masque is like quite thick, more thicker than a conditioner. It is very rich and creamy. Both the shampoo and masque are light yellow in color.

Shampoo foams well and cleanses amazingly well in just one wash. Both smell awesome! I take a fat dollop of the masque and use it as a conditioner.

I am a fan of this combo and have been using it since quite a long time now. In between, I had tried Head & Shoulders when I was facing some dandruff issues, but I made sure I used the masque though.

Though its priced a little high, but it lasts a very long time. Also the availability is an issue, since it is salon exclusive or available online on some sites.

I love this range. If you have normal to dry hair, you should definitely give this a try. Highly recommended!

Shampoo for Different Kinds of Hair

Shampoo for Different Kinds of Hair

This is the common type of question people ask when it comes to hair care, which shampoo and conditioner would suit my hair. Now there are different kinds of hair, some are oily, some dry, curly, wavy, straight.frizzy, etc

Now what kind of shampoo would suit which hair type..let’s get on to this..

1. Dry hair

Your hair needs moisture and at the same time if you are washing your hair daily,it is getting ripped off the moisture. So you need a shampoo that is creamy and moisturising and yet gentle enough for everyday use. Also dry hair is more susceptible to hairfall and breakage since they are more brittle. A good, rich conditioner is also required for dry hair. I absolutely love the L’Oreal Professionnel Absolute Repair Lipidium Shampoo and Mask. Or the Schwarzkopf Professional BC Repair Rescue Range. You can also follow with a good hair serum for the ends. Look for ingredients with naturals oils, shea butter, etc in the shampoos and conditioners. Oil based shampoos like L’Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish also work for dry hair. Oil your hair once a week for an hour before shampooing.

2. Oily hair

This type of hair is more sticky and limp due to excessive sebum production, Make sure you do not massage your scalp a lot, leading to stimulation of the glands and also wash hair with warm water and not hot. A gentle, clear gel based shampoo works for your hair type, something like Biotique Bio Green Apple Fresh Daily Purifying Shampoo or Omved Brahmi & Peppermint Shampoo. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week. Look out for ingredients like Panthenol and Wheat Protein in the shampoo. Also use the conditioner only towards the ends.

3. Coloured/Straightened Hair

Since the hair has gone through chemical treatments, it is best to use a SLS free shampoo so as to let the effect stay longer. The Body Shop Rainforest Range is SLS free and all natural. There are also a few natural brands like Omved and SoulTree which have SLS free shampoos.

4. Curly hair

Curly hair needs a right shampoo to maintain its curls and texture. You do not want straighter looking hair which actually leads to neither straight nor curls kind of hair. To maintain the natural form of the curls, a separate shampoo for curly hair is needed. I would recommend Curly Twirls, Kerastase Nutritive Bain OleoCurl Curl Definition Shampoo or TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Shampoo.

If you have frizzy hair, a shampoo recommended for dry skin above would work. A good serum will help control frizz and also avoiding heating tools as much as possible, would keep frizz under control.

What kind of hair do you have? And what shampoo do you use?

For the month of March, they have a Woman’s Day Special Fab Bag. It’s a cute bright pink pouch with a Coco Chanel quote and also they are running a campaign called #MakeupForDifference where you can leave a message here http://fabbag.com/makeupfordifference/ and for every message, Rs.50/- shall be donated on your behalf to these inspiring Fab Women.

Let’s have a look at the contents of my March Fab Bag:

  • Inveda BB Cream in Fair- Full size (Rs.140/- for 15ml)
  • SoultTree Kajal in Pure Black- A special 3g packaging (Rs.340/- for 5g)
  • Palladio Herbal Lipstick in Rosey Plum- Full size (Rs.650/-)
  • Sebastian Professional Hydre Shampoo- 50ml (Rs.1400/- for 250ml)
  • Fashionography Earrings

To start with the Inveda BB cream, its quiet nice and good for everyday use. Only issue being just 2 shades available: Fair and Matt

I have tried the SoulTree Kajal before, the Pure Black is much smoother than other colors which go on a little hard. Also its all natural and organic made from ghee and camphor, but if you are looking for something smudge free, this won’t help at all.

I loved a full sized lipstick in the bag, though I wish I would have got some other matte shade. This shade Rosey Plum has shimmer and I am not a fan of shimmer.

I like the Sebastian shampoo deluxe size and would be carrying it for my next travel.

Absolutely loved these cute butterfly blue earrings from Fashionography.

Overall, some hits and misses. Though more of hits for the price of Rs.599/-. I absolutely recommend giving Fab Bag a try.

Head & Shoulders Nourishing Winter Care Anti- Dandruff Shampoo Review

Head & Shoulders Nourishing Winter Care Anti- Dandruff Shampoo Review

Hey guys,

I am so sorry for not posting much. I have got a bit lazy with all the resting. Also I have started watching the Hip Hip Hurray series again..do you remember? Finished half..loving it!

Come winters, dandruff becomes my main hair concern :/ The dry climate only worsens the scalp. I am glad I got to try an Anti Dandruff Shampoo at the right time. I started using it in Jan, now since summers have started, its not too much of an issue though. I use this once a week now.

Remember the contest I had hosted HERE, I myself was trying this shampoo out and here is the review

Head & Shoulders Nourishing Winter Care Anti- Dandruff Shampoo for Women

What the Company claims: Richly indulgent anti-dandruff shampoo for dry damaged or frizzy hair. Leaves hair up to 100% dandruff free. Gentle enough for everyday use even for color or chemically treated hair. Formulated with Head & Shoulders’ Fresh Scent Technology featuring enhanced fragrance notes for an improved in-shower scent experience.

MRP: Rs.163/- for 170ml

Claims,Directions,Ingredients:

Its a blue and white colored slightly curved on the top bottle packaging with a flip cap. The shampoo is creamy white in color and smells amazing!

It lathers well and is not even that drying as the other anti-dandruff shampoos I have tried (even Head & Shoulders variants)

I definitely saw a reduction in my dandruff and it was not too harsh on the hair too.

Overall hair was soft and smooth and it reduces hair fall caused by breakage of hair. Also less dryness, which is the first for me, in an anti- dandruff shampoo. Worked great for me. Definitely recommend! If you do not have too much of a dandruff issue, you can use it once a week. I have switched to using it once a week now.

But even when I was using it everyday, I did not experience any extra hair fall as such. I liked the Nourishing  Winter Care.
