March MSM Express Box Review

March MSM Express Box Review

About MSMBox (My Style Mile Box):  MSMbox.com was finally launched in Oct 2014.

Simply put, MSMbox.com is a discovery e-commerce platform that offers consumers the opportunity to buy, try and enjoy beauty brands in the market.

For a nominal subscription of either Rs 495/- for the MSM Express Box or Rs 995/- for the MSM Select Box, every month, you get a surprise goodie box containing beauty, grooming and lifestyle products from new and established beauty brands, and then some!

Our motto – ‘a lot in a little’- sets us apart from any other beauty box currently in the market.

For starters, the box contains full size products along with carefully curated samples. Besides that, to really delight the consumer, we don’t just take care of your beauty and grooming needs. We go the extra mile and offer something more through our collaborations and associations with leading salons/spas, cafe’s and shopping.

March MSM Express Box Review, Indian Makeup and Beauty Blog

Express box is pink in colour while the Select box is mango yellow in colour

I got MSM Express Box which retails at Rs.495/-. Even though its a March box, I somehow couldn’t review it then, sorry for the delay. It looks like a small compact box but is very very heavy with a lot of stuff inside.

Let’s unravel the mystery of what’s inside the box..

I received 5 products, 2 from Kronokare, 2 from Biotique and 1 from Just Herbs.

Kronokare Provencial Lavender Glycerine Soap

Kronokare Provencial Lavender Body Lotion (Deluxe Sample)

Biotique Bio AloeVera SPF30+ Suncreen

Biotique Bio Kajal

Just Herbs SilkSplash Neem-Bitter Orange Rehydrant Face Wash

Except the Body Lotion, I got rest 4 full sized samples which is quite a good deal for a box priced at Rs.495/-! But I would have liked all 5 different brands rather than 2 products from the same brand. Also I have tried Kronokare before and I am not really a fan of the Body Lotion, its not moisturizing enough.

Looking forward to try the Biotique and Just Herbs products.

Overall I would say, price wise, it is one of the best subscription box out there which actually offers a good value for money. I only hope they can maintain the price and number of products offered in the same way in future too. I would love to try the ‘Select’ Box next.

Ingredients:

MRP: Rs.1090/- for 50ml

First of, it was priced at Rs.890/- 2-3 months back and on the Vichy India site, it still shows at Rs.890/-. I don’t know why the 2oo bucks jump suddenly :/

To start with, it comes in this pretty yellow packaging which many brands are coming up with these days for their sunscreens. It has a simple flip cap tube packaging.

The sunscreen is white in color and has a soft floral kind of smell. It looks thicker in consistency but is quite easy to spread and blend and is creamy. Does leave a whitish cast though.

Its slightly rich for oily skin. As it even claims to be normal to dry skin. I have combination skin..and my T zone definitely feels oily..but its rich for my overall skin too in summers..I definitely need touch ups with this.

I like that it has SPF 50 and very high protection..I am not using it everyday, but only when I am going to be out in the sun. Indoors I do with SPF30-35 with medium protection. Its been a little over 2.5 weeks since I am using it..I still wanted to wait before reviewing but since monsoons have already started, I wanted to review this before the rains are coming full-fledged.

Its the 2nd sunscreen from L’Oreal Paris with Mexoryl, one more being the new L’Oreal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence.

Pros:

1. High Protection.

2. SPF50+ with Mexoryl and Advanced protection against UVA and UVB rays.

3. Hyaluronic Acid plumps up the skin giving it a softer and smoother look.

4. Travel proof packaging.

5. Prevents skin from tanning or burning.

6. Gives a dewy looking skin..and dry skin would love this !

7. Water proof and sweat proof..stays through even in the humid Mumbai summers.

Cons:

1. Is quite rich..and not meant for oily skin or use in summers.

2. Leaves a slight whitish cast.

3. Expensive..and more so with the new increase in price!

Overall, I would say if you have dry skin, you can definitely try this out..and people with oily skin can try this in winters..coz its definitely a very good sunscreen. High protection from sun and tanning..and is quite water resistant too (sweat proof!). And is paraben free and hypoallergenic. Only other sunscreen from L’Oreal Paris with MEXORYL. Recommended.

Btw, it even claims to be for normal to dry, and sensitive skin.

Rating:

Quality: 4/5
Value for money: 3.5/5
Availability: 3.5/5

Overall Rating: 3.75/5

Would I buy it again: Yes..especially in the rains, coz its water proof (Not that we are not supposed to use sunscreen in monsoons !) Also, its good before swimming.

Za True White Day Protector Review

ZA True White Day Protector SPF26 PA++ Review

ZA (pronounced as zi:ei) True White features three best whitening ingredients – Revolutionary 4MSK Formula penetrates deep within the skin to diminish the formation of excessive melanin, reduce blemishes & dark spots that are visible on the surface giving an even-toned radiance.

Vitamin C Complex with a potent combination of APM (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate) and VC-IP (Tetrahexydecyl Ascorbate) lightens the deep rooted melanin pigments to restore skin’s translucence.

The range is enriched with exclusive SPA ingredients like Natural Spring Water from the foothills of Mount Cazzaro in Tuscany, Italy, Trehalose and White Lily extract to give unparalleled moisture to the skin. Its Prism Enhancer System removes unwanted dead corneal cells and allows for maximum diffusion of light on the skin’s surface making it radiant with brightness.

What the Company claims: Provides comfortable, light-weight yet strong protection against UV rays at daily base. Helps diminish spots and acne marks at the same time. Minimizes the appearance of visible melanin accumulation. Veils skin with a bright, pearly radiance that enhances skin tone for a healthy look.

MRP: Rs.799/- for 35g

Ingredients:

ZA True White Range is based on the new research by the Shiseido skin care team called the  Revolutionary 4MSK Formula where they have combined three best whitening ingredients..

It comes in a slender tube packaging with a small nozzle to get just the right qty for your face and neck.

Its not runny but neither thick..and quiet light in texture and easily blendable. It sinks into your skin. I have a combination skin and did not find it too rich or greasy..it is just about perfect.

Oily skin may require touch up on their T-zone after 2-3 hours..I did not face much of those issues..

It has a light baby powder kinda smell..does’nt stay long and not bothering. I am using this from about 3 weeks..and I do see lightning of my 1-2 acne scars which I had. Though it has SPF26 PA++, its not sufficient and I need to layer it with a separate sunscreen. I wish it had more sun protection..coz its after all a Day Protector.

But, I like the fact that it has both Vitamin C and E along with some other added minerals..Vitamin E helps in fading scar marks and Vitamin C too, to a certain extent. So a combination of too, is like very good in helping the skin regenerate and heal marks faster.

I have not tried the ZA True White Day Cream..but from the reviews I have read, that is more lighter and more suitable for oily. But, if you have normal to dry skin, you can go with the ZA True White Day Cream. Plus this tube packaging is easier to carry.

Pros:

1. Easy to carry tube packaging.

2. Dispenses right amount of product.

3. More hygienic than tub packaging.

4. Is light in texture and absorbs and sinks easily.

5. Helps fade acne marks and skin appears more even toned with gradual use.

6. Has a blend of Vitamin C, Vitamin E,  Minerals and Shiseido’s Revolutionary 4MSK Formula.

7. A little goes a long way..35g is going to last a long time ! I think the price is worth it..and its better priced than Shiseido’s other skin care ranges.

8. Has SPF26 PA++

Cons:

1. Not easily available.

2. Oily skin may need touch up for T-zone after 2-3 hours.

I don’t think I can think of any other cons..I quite liked it and using it regularly from the last 3 weeks. Can already see some difference in the skin. Would definitely recommend the ZA True White Day Protector.

Broad UVA and UVB protection

MRP: Rs.2050/- for 200ml

How to use it:

  1. 30 minutes before exposure, apply uniformly and in sufficient quantity
  2. Reapply frequently in case of prolonged exposure, and after swimming.
  3. Using this product should not encourage the user to prolong sun exposure.
  4. Avoid exposure between midday and 4pm (maximal sunshine)
  5. Avoid solar exposure for child between 0 and 3 years
  6. Use clothing protection

Ingredients:

A sunscreen in a spray bottle..I have tried the Lotus SPF50 Spray before and it was my HG. I loved it a lot..so I was expecting this to fare well too.

Coming to the packaging, I love the bright orange packaging..and the cap shuts tight..the spray is good enough..but takes a lot of sprays to cover one part of the body too.

It has a milky kind of texture and is quite runny..you cannot assume the qty you are using since they are just sprayed and you would never realise..if its the 1/4 th teaspoon rule of sunscreen for face and neck each..and 1/2 teaspoon per arm, coz you just spray and blend.

Also, it is not completely light and does give a shiny look to the face..and leaves a whitish cast too. Needs lot of powdering. I mostly use it for arms and legs..and very rarely at times for face.

The main test of it was when I went for the Beauty and The Blogger show. I was carrying this with me..and the previous day after seeing the shoot in the sun and getting burned, the next day I made sure I went to my room especially to apply sunscreen on my arms and legs. I used it all over my hands and legs, could’nt use it on the face as the makeup was done..and somehow I forgot my neck :whyy: :pullshair:

I was out in the scorching sun from 11 to 3-3.30 directly under the sun with no protection whatsoever and we were literally burning all over. My hands and legs got 2 shades darker but my neck got burnt badly and it got 4-5 shades darker! So, thankfully, even though I did not reapply and do not know if I covered each and every area well with enough sunscreen, my hands and legs were somewhat saved coz of this ! I get tanned very very easily..and I have been cursing myself a lot for forgetting my neck 🙁 Still do and would do so for months, till the tan goes away completely..looks difficult :/

Thats one spray qty

I do like the fact that is has broad UVA and UVB protection and offers SPF50+ though..not that we need it regularly..but times as such, we definitely do!

Pros:

1. Did not clog pores or sweat me out.

2. Has thermal spring water and beneficial sunscreen actives.

3. SPF50+

4. Helped my skin from getting burned or severely tanned.

5. Nice bright packaging and cap shuts tight.

6. Claims to give very high protection against the sun.

Cons:

1. Not very travel friendly..a little bulky and I do not see a smaller version of it.

2. Does give some shine..and a whitish cast.

3. Very expensive!

Overall, I would say, if you are someone who stays out in the sun for a long time and need very high protection or you get tanned easily like me, this is the only savior! Definitely required for us! But if you have oily skin or do not stay out much in the sun anyways, you can do with your normal sunscreen and skip this.

It also comes in emulsion and cream form..I have not tried those. But considering the very high protection calimed and a savior against tanning, I would say try those too and go for either one whichever you are comfortable with.

Rating:

L’Oreal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence SPF30 PA+++ Review

L’Oreal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence SPF30 UVB UVA PA+++ Review

What the Company claims: L’Oréal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence with SPF 30 PA+++ and a PPD of 15.5, thus ensuring a high level of protection against both UVA and UVB. It is also enriched with Advanced Mexoryl XL Filters that protect against broad spectrum UVA/UVB rays, Adenosine that repairs deep skin damage and fights wrinkles, and Vitamin E that helps fight against free radicles and external stress.

Other than the expert sun protection provided by this product, it is also extremely suited to the humid Indian climate. Aqua Essence is the first product from the L’Oréal Paris UV perfect range thatis a lightweight gel composition making it feel like water when applied on the skin. It is fresh, non-greasy, non-sticky and quickly gets absorbed into the skin.

Results, Usage:

It is designed to not only provide extreme sun-protection, but also keep the skin hydrated and feeling fresh, supple and smoother. With UV Perfect Aqua Essence the protection you apply is the protection you get all day!

Ingredients:

MRP: Rs.475/- for 30ml

So, a sunscreen by L’Oreal Paris which has Mexoryl XL Filters which are supposed to be the most stable protectant against the sun, is a nice idea.

I like the easy, simple, tube packaging..it is easy to carry and travel with.

Its a white runny lotion and not water like as they claim to be..but surely easy to blend and sink in and much lighter..no blending required and no whitish cast issue here.

Also, it might be slightly rich and shiny for oily skin..you do not get the matte look with this. I love the fact that it has UVA, UVB protection and SPF30 PA+++ with a very high PPD of 15.5. Its a savior against the sun..it also helped protect the face somewhat, against tanning.

See how water like light and thin it is..

But, its slightly on the expensive side..as 30 ml would hardly last you a few weeks if used religiously everyday and you can’t think of using it on your body as you might finish it off in less than a week then! :p

And since its SPF30, you will definitely need to reapply after 3-4 hours to remain protected. Also, I am not sure of the againts brown spots and premature skin ageing claim.

Overall, I would say, I like the protection factor and that it helps against tanning and is very light with no whitish cast issue..but it definitely needs reapplication under the sun..and might not suit oily skin. I think its good to carry along and can be a ‘bag essential’ as its quite travel friendly.

Lakme 9 to 5 Super Sunscreens Review

Lakme 9 to 5 Super Sunscreens SPF50-Hydrating and Mattifying Review

I had mentioned about the launch of these Lakme 9 to 5 Super Sunscreens HERE

What the Company claims: Lakmé 9to5 Super Sunscreen is apt for women with very little or no time to layer their skin with multiple products. What makes this new Sunscreen from Lakmé “super” is the fact that it feels great on your skin and does not leave a white patchy appearance. For the first time, a sunscreen by India’s no 1 brand, Lakmé, is giving you dual benefits. Its sheer lightweight formula gets absorbed so easily that it can be worn alone, over a moisturizer or under your Lakmé 9to5 make-up.

The new Lakmé 9to5 Super Sunscreen comes in two variants:
·         Lakmé 9to5 Hydrating Super Sunscreen – for normal to dry skin
·         Lakmé 9to5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen – for oily skin

NORMAL TO DRY SKIN- Lakmé 9 to 5 Hydrating Super Sunscreen + SPF 50 PA +++ : Beautify your skin with nourishing vitamins along with broad-spectrum UV protection.

Enriched with vitamins, it helps you reduce spots and lightens your skin tone. SPF PA 50+++ keeps you away from tan and sunburns caused by the harsh sun rays. This summer, acquire a nourished, hydrated and even skin tone.

  • Contains Vitamin B3 and Provitamin C
  • Fights against UVA and UVB rays

Hydrating Sunscreen Ingredients:

OILY SKIN- Lakmé 9 to 5 Mattifying Super Sunscreen + SPF 50 PA +++ Prevent your skin from tanning and sunburns with oil control benefits and flaunt an even skin tone.

Specifically designed for oily skin with oil control benefits, its non-sticky formula leaves your skin feeling non-greasy. SPF 50 PA +++ fights against the harsh UVA and UVB rays to protect your skin from tanning and sunburns. Flaunt your flawless even toned skin this summer!

  • Dermatologist tested
  • Non-comedogenic (Does not clog pores)
  • Hypoallergic

Mattifying Sunscreen Ingredients:

MRP: Rs.500/- for 30 ml (each) (Buy on Flipkart here)

Both come in a beige colored packaging with a golden cap. Both also have SPF50 PA+++ and UVA/UVB protection.

It has the same lemongrass kinda smell that Lakme’s sunscreens have. Both are white in color..the mattifying one is like a thicker cream and the hydrating one is normal..slightly runny lotion.

I have used either/or/both and in all possible ways..like only this and only that and both in combination too..for my oily T-zone the mattifying..and for rest the hydrating.

Both are non sticky and did not sweat me out or anything like a few sunscreens do..mattifying one needs a lot of blending as it leaves a whitish cast behind.

I have worn it under makeup and there were no issues at all..I love the texture of both of these..mattifying one does really control oil !

Hydrating one also has Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) and Provitamin C which also helps in lightening dark spots, etc.

And the best part is, it helps in controlling tan too..I have been out in scorching heat, wearing this, a few times..and I did not get tanned at all..

Though, I would agree its slightly overpriced..I mean it could have been priced at around Rs.350-400/-

Overall, I would say I like them..how non greasy and light weight they are with the sun protection they offer and protect from tan too. I would recommend the Mattifying one for oily skin and the Hydrating one for dry skin..and for combination skin like mine..Mattifying for summers and Hydrating may be for winters..

UVA Rays can cause wrinkles, pigmentation disorders, sunspots, immediate darkening of the pre-formed melanin while UVB rays are a source of sunburns and tanning by stimulating melanocytes to produce melanin rapidly. It has also been found that pro-longed exposure to both of these rays can induce ageing and skin cancer. Health-conscious consumers hence demand a potently shielding Sunscreen for daily application. In such a scenario, a good Sunscreen like the Capital Soleil should fulfill the following factors:
Complete protection:  Thorough measure of the Protection factor against both UVB & UVA rays thus protecting the skin’s Health, Youth and Beauty.
High Safety: Should be Hypoallergenic, friendly with sensitive skin, Non-comedogenic

Importance of Sunscreen

Importance of Sunscreen
Guest Post
We have time and again read and heard about how important sunscreen is..check this post for the harmful effects of the sun on our skin. It ages the skin unbelievably fast.

Now we cannot be 100% safe and protected..but what we can do is atleast use a good broad spectrum sunscreen.

You may even skip a moisturiser, but never a sunscreen. One should use a sunscreen according to their skin types, like gel based for oily skin or a lotion or a thicker texture for dry skin.

Some believe we do not need a sunscreen when indoors..even though we are indoors there are UVA rays passing through everything though in lesser amounts, be it your PC or laptop screens or tubelights or windows,etc..we should use a SPF 30 sunscreen atleast once a day even though indoors.

Sun blocks and sunscreens are used interchangeably..there is no such thing that can block sun rays..its just a way to market.

And lastly higher SPF does not denote more protection. SPF i.e Sun Protection Factor only denotes the time we can spend exposed to sun. Eg : If a person gets tanned in 10 minutes in the sun without sunscreen, SPF 30 would protect him for 30*10=300 minutes and SPF 50 for 50*10=500 minutes, after which he would need to reapply the sunscreen.

So never ever skip a sunscreen..cover up, wear your shades and lather up on the sunscreen before stepping out this summers..

Do you use sunscreen everyday ??

Lotus Herbals Intensive Sun Block Spray SPF 50 Review

Lotus Herbals Intensive Sun Block Spray SPF 50 Review
Lotus Herbals is very good with their sunscreens..I have tried two of them and loving them..I tried the Nomarks sunscreen before but it used to sweat me out..so I use to stay away from sunscreens but then I have realised the importance of sunscreens and how they are important to protect skin in the long term too..

I thought of giving the Lotus one a try..and I am so glad I did…It has SPF 50 and UVA Index 16

What the Company claims : This easy to use fine mist spray offers quick protection from UVA & UVB rays. It contains natural actives of chamomile, sage and thyme. Use on all exposed parts of the body, reapply frequently.

Directions for use : Spray directly on all exposed parts of the body (neck, arms, legs etc.) before exposure to sun. For face, spray into hand and apply to face. Re-apply frequently.

Active Ingredients: Extracts of sage as a natural sunscreen, chamomile for moisturising & thyme to protect from environmental damage.

MRP: Rs 195/- for 80 ml

Its a spray bottle…but its not a watery spray if you think so..Its a white liquid..spreads easily..and gets absorbed very fast..and is not at all greasy..it has no smell as such.

Pros:

1. Its the best sunscreen I have used till now.
2. Absorbs super easily and not at all greasy.
3. Claims to be sweat and water proof and it sure is.
4. Easy to carry and nice spray packaging.
5. Economical compared to other sunscreens.
6. Has no weird smells.
7. Did not break me out and neither sweats me out.
8. Does not give a whitish cast like other SPF products.
9. Its available at all supermarkets mostly.

Cons:

1. Dry skinned people may need a moisturiser beneath.

Rating:
