Tips for Buying Shoes Online For That Perfect Fit

Tips for Buying Shoes Online For That Perfect Fit

By Sanchita

These days we have the pleasure of online shopping, be it clothes, makeup or anything essential can be easily delivered to your doorstep within few days. Shoes are also one of the most important parts of your outfit and thus women also look for shoes online. Online shopping in India for shoes will save you the hassle and time. However, a lot of people hesitate to buy shoes online. This is because shoe shopping feels like a ‘touch and try kind of an experience’. If the shoes are not comfortable, you can’t wear them on any occasion and the whole purpose of buying those shoes you loved is down the drain. However, here are some quick tips and tricks to follow to buy shoes for women in India.

• The perfect size – Sizing in shoe shopping matters a lot and especially while purchasing shoes online. Every website provides you with a chart and one should try to follow that. But before you move forward, I want to tell you that the size varies from brand to brand. For e.g. If you are size 34 in one brand, you may be size 35 in another. Also, it varies from design to design. To have the perfect fit, take a blank sheet of paper, pencil and ruler measure the feet
wearing a sock. Place the foot down on the sheet and get the perfect shape by outlining with the pencil and then measure accordingly with the rule. Keep this sheet with you every time you are shopping for shoes. This is very helpful in purchasing shoes online.

• Shopping Website – Always choose a website you feel is trustworthy and reliable. There are various websites online for shoes but most of them do not deliver what they promise. Look for the reviews and decide accordingly. Also, if your favourite shoe brand has its own website, then definitely go for that. This guarantees the perfect fit because you have already tried the shoes, own them and know your size.

• Look for the return policy – Every shopping website for clothes and shoes should have a proper return policy because size matters in these cases. If the shoes do not have the perfect fit, they are useless. Therefore, before purchasing shoes online, always check the return policy of the website, the terms and conditions attached and the number of days within which you have to return.

• Shoe material – We are often disillusioned by the amazing look of a pair of shoes and we forget to check the material. Not every pretty shoe is going to have the most amazing and comfortable material. Sometimes, a particular material irritates the skin or causes extreme shoe bites which makes it very uncomfortable to wear. Therefore, always check the material before purchasing online. If it is not listed, you can call up the customer service to ensure
the same.

• Images – The more the images enlisted on the website, the better it is. While shopping online, choose a website where different images of the particular shoe are presented with various perspectives so that you can choose easily. It also helps you to evaluate the material and fit better.

• Reviews – Reviews and ratings are extremely important. If you have any doubts regarding a product, then try reading extensive reviews and ratings. This enables you to judge the product or in fact check the credibility of the online brand. This is also very helpful if you are purchasing shoes online for the first time from a specific brand. People often mention if it runs larger, smaller or are true to size.

• Try it on – It is advisable to try the shoe right away when you receive the order. While trying, wear socks so that the fit can be checked perfectly. Even when you are shopping at stores physically, try wearing socks for shoe trial for comfort and fit.

• Indoor trial – While you are trying the shoes purchased online, try walking indoors to avoid any damage. Although most websites provide a return policy, it comes with a clause that the shoes must not be damaged, soiled or the tags torn. Therefore, do not pull up the sticker or
tear apart the tags and always try indoors.

So these are some tips for shopping shoes for women online in India without any hassle. Next time you see an amazing deal or a chic pair of shoes, follow these tips to purchase without any hesitation.

6 Ways to use Potatoes for Skin Care

6 Ways to use Potatoes for Skin Care

By Aakriti

We all desire flawless skin. While some beauty products do give us temporary results , I for one tend to stay away from chemicals. I prefer to use enzymes and chemicals present in natural foods to address my skin skin care needs.

One such holy grail product in my vanity is potatoes.

Since potatoes grow easily they are cheap as well as most likely to be organically grown. Potatoes are also packed with nourishing nutrients which can help address skin care needs if used in the proper way. Following is why potatoes are beneficial for the skin.

  • Potatoes contain potassium which helps to add moisture and hydrate the skin
  • They contain calcium which helps in healing dry skin
  • Calcium also helps to protect and renew the top layer of the skin
  • They contain an enzyme called catecholase which is responsible for reducing acne scars, blemishes and dark spots
  • They also contain magnesium which helps to fight free radicals which are responsible for causing wrinkles and fine lines
  • Topical application of potatoes provides some mild bleaching by reducing melanine production.

Below I have mentioned ways in which you can incorporate potatoes in your skin care routine-

1. For removing tan and achieving an even complexion

Cut a potato wedge and rub it in a circular motion all over the face. Let the juice sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Alternatively, one can grate the potato and squeeze the juice. Apply this juice on the face and let it sit for 15 minutes before washing away with cold water.

The best time to do this is when using potatoes for cooking. This way you do not need to remember and prepare specially.

2. For treating dark circles

Grate about 1 tablespoon of potato. Apply the grated potato on the under eye area. Lay back and relax for 10 minutes. Wash with cold water. Regular application of this helps in lightening the dark circles significantly

3. Face mask for treating age spots and tan removal (dry skin)

Grate one potato and squeeze the juice from the grated potato. Mix one tablespoon of potato juice with two tablespoons of honey to prepare a face mask. Apply this evenly on face and neck. Sit back and relax for 20 minutes. You can combine this with the grated potato eye mask to use the entire potato at one time. Rinse away the mask after 20 minutes with cold water.

4. Face mask for treating age spots and tan removal (oily skin)

Grate one potato and squeeze the juice from the grated potato. Mix one tablespoon of potato juice with 1 tablespoon of fuller’s earth and 1 tablespoon of potato pulp to prepare a face mask. Apply this evenly on face and neck. Sit back and relax for 20 minutes. You can combine this with the grated potato eye mask to use the entire potato at one time. Rinse away the mask after 20 minutes with cold water.

5. Face mask for hyper pigmentation and tan removal

Grate one potato and squeeze the juice from the grated potato. Mix one tablespoon of potato juice with two tablespoons of tomato juice to prepare a face mask. Apply this evenly on face and neck. Sit back and relax for 20 minutes. You can combine this with the grated potato eye mask to use the entire potato at one time. Rinse away the mask after 20 minutes with cold water.

6. Face mask for glowing skin

Mix one tablespoon of potato pulp with one tablespoon of cucumber pulp. Add 1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric powder and 1/2 a teaspoon of lemon juice. Add in a few drops of rose water for toning. Apply this mask for a maximum 10 minutes before rinsing off with cold water.

One important point to keep in mind- After using any treatment with potatoes, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3-4 hours and always apply sunscreen. ( This is because topical application of potatoes leads to mild bleaching of the skin)

Have you tried any of these?

P.S.: Images from Google. I don’t own these

How to Use Hydrogen Peroxide for Treating Acne

How to Use Hydrogen Peroxide for Treating Acne

By Sanchita

Acne and severe breakouts are worrisome. You have to make sure that the acne stops reoccurring time and again and also have to do something about the scars and blemishes thereafter. There are numerous home remedies, drugstore and various other products available in the market that claims to work on acne but finding that efficient one that will work on your skin is surely a gruesome task.

In today’s post, we are going to elaborate how hydrogen peroxide is used for treating acne. Also, keep in mind the side effects if you are using it in the wrong method.

WHY DO WE USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE FOR TREATING ACNE?

Hydrogen Peroxide is mild bleach that work wonders for acne prone skin. If you are suffering from severe acne situation, this is the solution. It is anti-bacterial in nature and thus helps to kills the bacteria that cause acne and pimples. As we are all aware of the fact that acne is caused when your skin produces excess sebum, Hydrogen Peroxide works as a drying agent on the skin. It soaks up the excess oil from the skin and helps the pimples to dry out quickly.

Hydrogen peroxide loses its extra oxygen atom when applied to the skin. It takes an oxidization process which helps to create unfavourable bacterial environment, thereby stop the growth of bacteria and prevents acne. It is also helpful in peeling of the skin whereby the dead skin cells are exfoliated, revealing newer and healthier skin.

THE RIGHT CONCENTRATION OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE FOR SKIN

Hydrogen Peroxide is also found in various cosmetic products. As we have mentioned before that Hydrogen Peroxide is a chemical and it may harm the skin if you are using it wrong. The most important aspect is to but the right percentage of the product. One must never use Hydrogen Peroxide of more than 3% concentration on the skin. If you have bought more than that, make sure you add up adequate amount of water to it to bring down the concentration to 3%.

HOW TO USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE FOR TREATING ACNE

1) To start the procedure, take off every layer of makeup or any other skin care products from the skin and wash off with a very mild cleanser. Make sure you massage the skin in circular motion with a cleanser to increase the blood circulation.

2) Next, you have to steam the face. This step is not needed for sensitive skin though. Take the steam from the boiling water (maintaining the right distance from the water container) and don’t steam the face for more than 5-6 mins. Do not pat dry the face post steaming.

3) Once the steaming is done, rub an ice cubes or splash the face with cold water to close the pores.

4) Take  hydrogen peroxide (not more than 3% concentration) and a clean and sterilized cotton swab. Dip the cotton swab in hydrogen peroxide and apply onto the affected acne areas. You may feel a slight tingling sensation. Once done, do not touch or wash the skin for some time to let the solution get absorbed naturally.

5) After 4-5 mins when the hydrogen peroxide has been absorbed by the skin, apply an oil free light moisturizer. Make sure that the light moisturizer is non-comedogenic and non-greasy.

SIDE EFFECTS AND CAUTION

  • If you have sensitive skin, consult your doctor before applying Hydrogen peroxide
  • The drying effect of hydrogen peroxide can be severe on the skin so be careful when you use and make sure you apply the right amount.
  • You cannot use this too often, it will dry out the skin.
  • The concentration should never exceed more than 3%.
  • If you experience severe itching, burning sensation, redness etc. then it is advised to stop the treatment right away.
  • Do not use hydrogen peroxide near your eyes.

Will you try using hydrogen peroxide for treating acne?

Decoding the Korean Skin care: 8 Steps to flawless skin!!

Decoding the Korean Skin care: 8 Steps to flawless skin!!

By Ankita

When it comes to modern day skin care, Koreans are a step ahead. Korean skin care lines are flooding the Indian Market and NOT for no reason. Skin care is not just a regime for them, it is more of a ritual. They stick to their age old rule and result? Flawless, translucent skin.

Disclaimer!!! Of course, genetics and geography play an important role in determining skin condition, but hey! how you treat your skin has an equal impact on how it feels and looks.

So, here are the 8 essential steps that are basic to any Korean skin care regimen, broken down and simplified just for you.

1. Oil Cleansing:

Sounds scary? Oil cleansing has proven extremely beneficial all skin types when it comes to cleansing. The idea is to break down the dirt and impurities stuck in pores and wipe them off easily with a warm damp cloth. All you need to do is take a few drops of cleansing oil and massage it into your skin in upward and circular motion. Take a few minutes of steam or put a damp warm cloth on your face. Then wipe it off using the same cloth and you are all ready for the next step.

Product Recommendation: The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Rich Oil

Price: 18$/Rs.3690 (Buy HERE)

2. Foaming Cleanser:

Oil cleansing removes all traces of makeup and other product built up. Using a foam based cleanser post oil cleansing ensures that all the residues impurities are stripped off and you get a clean canvas to work on. The added advantage is that your face won’t feel oily.

Product Recommendation: The Face Shop Herb Day 365 Cleansing Foam-Aloe

Price: 1530 INR (Buy HERE)

3. Exfoliator:

Exfoliation is the key to a smoother skin. Using an exfoliator removes the surface layer of dead skin cells and reveals a fresh skin. It is however very important to remember not to use an abrasive scrub. A gentle foam based exfoliator would do the trick. I stick to the rule of 2 times exfoliation per week, you can, however, increase the frequency with prior consultation with your dermatologist.

Product Recommendation: Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Scrub Foam

Price: 2264 INR (Buy HERE)

4. Toner:

Tired of open pores? DO NOT skip on your toner. Toning balances the pH level of skin and helps in shrinking the size of pores. Some toners even have the added advantage of reducing inflammation and fighting acne. To get the maximum benefit out of it, take a cotton ball and gently dab it on your skin (not swipe) for a couple of times. Koreans even use these moisturizing toners for 7 times, as it adds the required hydration to the skin.

Product Recommendation: The Faceshop Mango Seed Silk Moisturizing Toner

Price: 1192 INR (Buy HERE)

5. Essence:

Although essence and serum are confused to be the same, they have some points of differences. An essence is traditionally a light weight, almost watery formula, with hoards of benefits. They target an overall skin condition, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and dull skin. Dab it gently into the skin. Leave it for some time, for the skin to soak in all the goodness.

Product Recommendation: MISSHA Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence

Price: INR 1770 (Buy HERE)

6. Sheet Mask:

Now, I believe I do not need to say tons about sheet masks. They are in a rave, convenient, efficient and all the blah. But trust all the blah is true! Sheet masks are cotton masks soaked in goodness and target a specific skin condition. All you need to do is, put them on for 15-20 minutes and wait for the magic to happen! Korean women swear by using one mask a day.

Product Recommendation: Innisfree Its Real Squeeze Mask Sheet Aloe

Price: 100 INR (Buy HERE)

7. Serum:

Now a serum, is somewhat, a first cousin of an essence. They are however thicker in consistency and address a specific concern such as anti-aging, skin brightening, and the sort. Serums are power houses and are more concentrated in nature. A pea size amount would be enough for the entire face.

Product Recommendation: The Face Shop Chia Seed Moisture Recharge Serum

Price: 1690 INR (Buy HERE)

8. Moisturizer:

So, we have arrived at the final step: Moisturization. A light weight cream ensures that the moisture stays locked up and gives the skin a final touch of glow. Again, there are a lot of moisturizers to choose from. But I would suggest going for something that is light weight and non comedogenic. This kind of cream ensures your face does not turn into a grease ball.

Product Recommendation: Innisfree The Green Tea Seed Cream

Price: 1750 INR (Buy HERE)

I really hope this article gave you an insight into the world of K-Beauty. Try these and let us know your thoughts on the same.

Any suggestion and comments are always welcome. 🙂

Makeup Meltdown SOS!! 10 Products that can save you a drag face

MAKEUP MELTDOWN SOS!! 10 PRODUCTS THAT CAN SAVE YOU A DRAG FACE

By Ankita

It is creepy. I am 24 years old and I can’t help watching Mulan just over and over again, just to have a good laugh at the ‘match maker scene’.

Sadly it was not so funny in real life when I faced a similar scenario at a cousins wedding when a little kid decided it would be very funny to splash soft drinks on aunty’s face. Or that day when I went out with my crush on your first date. I was wondering why he wouldn’t stop staring at my eyes all through the day. It wasn’t until I reached home and realized I was looking more like a tired sleep deprived Zombie Bride.

With rain, heat, and humidity always at your tail, how are you ever supposed to put on makeup, without a hint of self-consciousness?

Worry not Cupcakes. I have built an army of ‘Anti-Makeup- Meltdown’ products that are sure to leave you stunning through out your day

1. Lakme Absolute Pore Fix Toner

Prepping your skin is as important as the process. Using a pore tightening toner helps shrink the size of pores and makes sure the skin does not sag. This is an alcohol-free toner that I can swear by any day. If used religiously, it actually diminishes the size of pores and gives a fresh faced look.

Price: 275 INR (Buy HERE)

2. Plum Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer

This brand has never failed to impress us with its silicone and paraben free products. In addition to providing a matte finish, it also combats acne and cleans up the face. A pea sized amount is just enough for the entire face. It claims to be best for oily skin, however, my personal experience would say, it’s suited for all skin types.

Price: 275 INR (Buy HERE)

3. L’Oreal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer

Speaking of primers, hands down this is the best of the class, I have used till date. It does a fantastic job of smoothening out pores and creates an even surface for foundation application. It has a thick creamy consistency with a hint of a pink undertone, that balances out any imperfections. The only con with this, I would say, is the tub packaging.

Price: 995 INR (Buy HERE)

4. L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H Foundation

Voila! The ultimate goof proof foundation! This foundation offers you a great coverage along with a matte, yet not so flaky finish. It is transfer proof and doesn’t melt down even in hot and humid weather. The best part is, it doesn’t cling on to your pores and fine lines. I am not sure if the 24 hours claims are true, but it does stay put from 10 to 5.

Price: 1400 INR (Buy HERE for 1134)

5. L.A. Girl HD Pro Conceal Concealer

All the rave about these little angels is true!! This concealer provides a matte finish and has strong orange/yellow undertones to it, a thumbs up for Indian skin tone. It DOES NOT crease or sink into fine lines, hence ‘the holy grail’ product for dark circles. Water resistant and transfer proof, no doubt this has been an all time favorite amongst beauty enthusiasts. The shades range is also quite remarkable.

Price: 595 INR (Buy HERE)

6. Contour/ Blush ( Draping) : Makeup Obsession Blush – B111 Glow

A better option, than going for a full fledged contour and highlight would be- Draping. This newbie fits perfectly for the job. The earth tone color beautifully brings out your cheek bones and adds a hint of flush to the face. All you need to do is take some of it on your brush and swirl it along the sides of your face in shape of a "3" ie from the temples, to cheek bone down to your lower jaw line.

Price: 500 INR (Buy HERE)

7. Freedom HD Pro Finish Pressed Powder- Banana

Concealers can sometimes give an ashy look and corrector would just add up another layer to the face. An elegant solution to this problem would be opting for a yellow powder to dust your t-zone, instead of the entire face. This is balance the under eyes, help prevent creasing and also add a subtle yet natural highlight to the face. Freedom HD Pro Finish Pressed Powder- Banana is definitely a great option for this, without burning a hole in your pocket.

Price: 450 INR (Buy HERE)

8. Makeup Revolution My Sign Complete Eye Base – Aquarius

Now that we are done with the face, let us move on to the eyes. It is always better to avoid a lot of jazz when it comes to eye makeup during the monsoons. But what about the quirk quotient! Rains are all about fun right? Worry not my daisies. This palette offers you the perfect shades you need for rains.

Take the darkest color in the palette and push it gently along your upper lash line, going a bit thicker around the outer corner. Using the next darkest shade, smudge the color along your lower lash line (only the outer half), as close as possible. Then taking the taupe shade, dab it gently along your lid. Feeling a little dramatic? Take some of the darkest shades and mix it with some of the turquoises. Gently built it on the outer edges of your edges. There you go, Goddess of the Seven Seas!

Price: 850 INR (Buy HERE)

9. Colorbar Kiss Proof Lip Stain

Instead of going for the traditional lipstick, try a lip stain this season. The Colorbar Kiss Proof Lip Stains are ABSOLUTELY nontransferable, provide a matte yet comfortable finish (do not crease into lines of lips) and have a GREAT shade range!!! They do not feel dry at all and feel weightless on application. These are some serious ‘you-don’t- mess-with- the-lips’ kind of lip stains!

Try dabbing the product with your fingers, in place of going, over and over with the applicator. That would give a more natural finish.

Price: 900 INR (Buy HERE)

10. e.l.f. Makeup Mist and Set

Finally we are done!

Uh-oh! Not yet. Just a ‘spritz’ of makeup setting spray and you are good to go for the day. A setting spray ensures your makeup doesn’t melt down and stays put. It also provides a dewy glow to the entire look and tones it down for a more subtle, natural appearance. Although there are tons of makeup setting sprays available in the market, ‘e.l.f. Makeup Mist and Set’ works best for me. It ensures the makeup stays un-budged and also prevents a cake-face. What is your favorite, by the way?

Price: 915 INR (Buy HERE)

Makeup is all about experimenting and fun. A little drip over here and little smudge over there doesn’t really matter. But, the rains are never an excuse, not to look gorgeous!

What is your go to product in the monsoons? Let us know:-)

Any suggestions, comments and ideas are always welcome.

Reviving 50’s fashion: Skirts in vogue this Summer

Reviving 50’s fashion: Skirts in vogue this Summer

By Ankita

1.

The 1950s: World war is just over and people’s mind seep with liberated ideas and view. It was also a time of transition for the fashion world. Women, now venerated from preconceived ideas of feminism now opted for more of an outlandish look, never ignoring the classy quotient.

2.

The Vintage Era: Welcome aboard the vintage era. Fashion at this time was marked by a rather girl-next- door yet glamorous look. The dressing style of the 5o’s always fascinated me, however, what really caught my attention were the skirts

Flirty Fashion: SKIRTS

Playful, innocently flirty, these twirl-y pieces of fabric are a must-have in every girl’s wardrobe, what I believe. Skirts have gone through some major transformations over the years, however, no one wore it better than the 50’s ladies. Here are a few trending ideas that will make you the girl-next-door diva, without making it look as if you just jumped out of a medieval circus. Want a bit classy elegance wrapped in playful fashion? Stay tuned mon cheries

A. The Play Date: Full Circle skirts

These skirts were an everyday essential for women in the 50’s. Full circle skirts have a waistband just above the natural waistline, giving an illusion of thinness. They make the hips look fuller and waist smaller, and are absolutely figure flattering.

3.

4.

Colours to go for this summer: Aquamarines, pastel shades of salmon and pink would suit the look best!!

Team it up with: A pair of light salmon peep toes and animal print tees and you are all set for your play date

B. For the ‘Not-so- girly-yet- girly’ Girl: Half Circle Skirts

Not the Barbie girl? This one’s just for you. A little less flashy than full circle skirt, half circle skirts have less flare at the hem. Women with naturally fuller hips would find it extremely flattering. Somewhere in between an A-line and a full circle skirt, these skirts are perfect for an everyday outing and even official parties.

5.

6.

Colours to go for this summer: Tan brown, off-white shades with tiny symmetrical prints and especially shades of royal blue look best on these.

Team it up with: A pair of ballerina flats or Jelly shoes ( tan colors look best) and high-neck soft cotton blouses which are a few shades darker than your skirt. There you go, my sweet tomboy!

C. Paris is always a good idea: Poodle skirts

Poodle skirts are an absolute favourite of mine!! They remind of the streets of Paris and famous song ‘La vie en rose’. These are one such style statement that has lasted the decades. They come with very catchy embroideries like kitties, Eiffel tower, telephones and even, statements such as ‘See you later alligator’

7.

8.

Colours to go for this summer: Without a question of doubt, baby pinks, Fuchsia, and light greys!!

Team it up with: A pair of cone heels or stilettos. Keep the top simple as your poodle skirt deserves most of the attention. Casual half sleeve blouses or even a very simple, tucked in, semi-formal shirt would go well with it. And your carriage is ready mademoiselle….

D. For ‘always chasing the ice cream van’ girl: Gathered Skirts

Hands up for how many of you are still stuck up in the school age! Me for sure. This one is for “I do not care what they think, I will have my ice cream" personalities. These look fabulous on women without much natural hip since the bulky band gave instant curves.

9.

10.

Colours to go for this summer: When it comes to gathered skirt, it is more about the print than colour. Big bright prints on the hemline, light summer checks in shades of blue and pinks suit the look best. However, you can pretty much experiment a lot with gathered skirts.

Team it up with: A pair of oxfords or kitten heels, a few shades lighter than your attire. Buttoned up shirts in very pale and light shades compliment this look very well. Go and get your ice cream girl!!!!

E. For the Lady of the house: Pencil Skirts

Who said pencil skirts can be boring and stereotypical?? Pencil skirts are one of the most figure flattering attires on the face of the earth! However, a modified version of pencil skirts are sheath skirts which are more comfortable. But my favourite version of pencil skirts are mermaid skirts or fishtail skirts. They balance out proportion beautifully well and suit almost all body shapes

11.

12.

Colours to go for this summer: As opposed to the usual black and grey, go for burnt oranges and teal colours this summer.

Team it up with: A pair of really good pumps and formal shirt, even a t-shirt. Top it off with a pale pastel colour blazer and you are all set to work, work, work, work…work.

F. For the Bay Watch Babe: Gypsy skirts

The world is going gaga over boho fashion. However, did you know that the gypsy style skirt comes from a long lost lineage of tiered skirts? Also referred to as layered skirts, these are perfect for beach outings. Long, flowy and mystic when combined with the right accessories and top, they make you look like a Greece-ian Goddess and is a win-win over bikini anytime any day. Period.

13.

14.

Colours to go for this summer: Shades of pastel pink, salmon, cool light brown and sea-green would rock this look. However, the fabric is most as it needs to be extremely lightweight and flowy, with a hint of shimmer, to give you that mythical iridescent look.

Team it up with: A chiffon crop top or halter neck with a bejewelled neckline will complement these skirts best. A pair of gladiators, add on some boho trinkets, are you a goddess of the seas or what??!!!!

Who said classy can’t be sassy? These were my ideas of 1950s fashion revival with a little bit of my own twist. What are yours?

Any suggestions, comments, and ideas are always welcome 🙂

#MACxMickeyContractor Indian Beauty Essentials Natural Makeup Look, Tips & Tricks

Hi guys,

So towards the end of March, I attended a session with MAC Cosmetics where Mickey Contractor, Director of Makeup Artistry, MAC India and celebrity Bollywood Makeup Artist, taught us to create a flawless base and a step by step Natural Indian Look!

I was so stoked and happy, I had no idea till I reached the venue that we had to do it step by step with him and he would be teaching us. I thought it was a regular event where the video will be unveiled, etc., but no, we saw the video and we created the whole look on ourselves with Mickey checking each step and teaching us how to do it correctly.

The video came out today and hence I wrote this post half way through earlier and saved in my drafts, because many of you asked me to share the tips and tricks and I thought I should jot them down quickly.

Here is the video..

So here are few tips and tricks Mickey taught us:

  • Always moisturise your face and undereyes before starting with your base. Mickey recommends MAC Studio Moisture Cream. He even mixes it later with the foundation when he needs a sheer look.
  • Spray MAC Fix Plus after the Moisture Cream and then start with concealer/corrector.
  • Everyone has dark circles and that is completely natural. If you try to layer too much of concealer and powder, it will only look ashy and settle in fine lines and crease. So correct and conceal once, go over the concealed area with a foundation and set with powder.
  • We used the MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette and he made us mix the concealer and both correctors on our hands to get the perfect match first. And then apply it on the dark circles. It made world of a difference. I mixed the corrector and concealer directly on the under eye area and applied it on one half and it was still looking ashy. I used the Medium palette which had shades close to and lighter to my skin tone. And the lighter concealer was making the dark circles look ashy. He made me take the yellow and orange corrector and the concealer shade on the back of my hand from the Medium Deep Palette, mix it in and add more untill I got the perfect peach. And then I applied it to cover dark circles, it was a perfect match!
  • He usually goes for the same color or a darker concealer for the under eye area and then covers that area with foundation for a seamless, even toned base.
  • Always match the foundation to your neck and body and in natural light only. Wear it through the day to check if it oxidizes and then go ahead and buy your perfect match.
  • Dab powder with a sponge on the under eye area and the T zone and take excess off with a brush. Never swipe concealer/powder. Always dab!
  • Take your eyelash curler till the base of the lashes and press and release the curler till count of 10, hold for 3-4 seconds and leave. Voila, you get amazing well curled lashes.
  • To define your cheekbones, apply blush in a slight slanted upward motion and just for a flush of colour, on the apples of your cheeks.
  • Dab the sponge on your highlighter to blend it in with the skin and take it slightly around the under eye area as it should not be a stark slanted highlighted line on top of your cheekbones and look seamless.
  • Always apply foundation on the neck if you are doing your whole face or just apply foundation partially like only on T zone and problem areas. There shouldn’t be a stark/visible difference between face and neck.

Clean and natural base using minimal products is his USP. He doesn’t like sharp contouring and highlighting, bold brows and all that you see on YouTube and Instagram these days.

He has done numerous Bollywood movies and magazine covers especially Aishwarya Rai, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee’s makeup and you can see how he loves a clean base, natural look and dark kohled eyes. He is a master of the Bollywood Smokey Eye.

In this video, he teaches a Natural Indian Look with a light smoke of kohl which is perfect for summers.

I used these products to create the look, as shown in the video..

  • MAC Pro Conceal & Correct Palette in Medium Deep
  • MAC Studio Fix Fluid NC37
  • MAC Cream Colour Base Hush
  • MAC Eyeshadow Embark
  • MAC Modern Twist Kajal Cat’s Meow
  • MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara Volume
  • MAC Mocha Blush
  • MAC Lipstick in Half n Half
  • MAC Brushes 217 and 168

The Conceal & Correct Palette helps you mix and match the exact amount of concealer and corrector till you get your perfect shade. This palette is also a must have if you are a makeup artist or do your friends and family’s makeup.

MAC Conceal & Correct Palette Medium Deep

Embark is a matte deep brown eyeshadow with red undertones. It is a perfect shade for a wash of colour like we have done here or for a soft smokey day time look, smudging it with a black kohl pencil underneath. We have used the Modern Twist Kajal in Cat’s Meow, which is the black shade as kohl on the waterline. If you like jet carbon black kohl, you can go for Squid. Gently smudge Embark on the lower lash line to merge the kohl and shadow. Flick the kohl slightly to create a wing like effect. Tightline with Cat’s Meow

Mocha, Hush, Embark

MAC Blush in Mocha is a matte soft peach colour which is very flattering on Indian skin tones, fair to medium especially. MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush gives a very soft and subtle highlight and can also be used all over eyes as a base or to highlight brow bone and inner corners.

MAC Half n Half Lipstick is a satin finish nude brown, I absolutely love this shade. It reminded me of Maybelline My Mahagony which was my favourite nude and was discontinued later on. But I highly recommend Half N Half if you are looking for a good, everyday wear nude shade.

MAC Half N Half

I love how simple this look is, and yet pretty and polished. Clean base, neutral tones and kohl rimmed eyes, suitable for any occasion and works for everyone.

I hope you liked this post and found it helpful. Do let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

DIY Vegan Hair Mask for Soft & Healthy Hair

DIY Vegan Hair Mask for Soft & Healthy Hair

Guest Post by Louisa

We all know that eating foods which are rich in vitamins and minerals is essential to achieve healthy looking hair. But you can also give your strands a boost by applying natural fruits and oils on your hair. See how easy it is with my simple vegan hair mask.

As traditional shampoos contain harsh detergents and chemicals, I only use the best organic shampoos and conditioners to make sure I’m using gentle cleansing agents made with natural ingredients. This way I’m not undoing any of the goodness delivered by my hair mask treatment.

Avocado

Using avocado in a hair mask is a great way of infusing your hair and scalp with moisture. It has so many beneficial properties they are difficult to count, and include potassium, amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

If you’ve noticed any new hair takes a long time to grow, it could be due to a nutritional deficiency. Avocado is the perfect way to nourish hair cells, strengthen roots and encourage new hair growth.

Banana

Adding banana to a hair mask is a great way to rejuvenate your hair. They are as good for your hair as they are for you to eat, and can help soften hair and protect its natural elasticity.

Bananas deliver Vitamin A, B, C, E, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium. These nutrients can help repair and condition hair, making it softer and more manageable, as well as helping to protect from damage caused by heat styling or harsh weather.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk has excellent moisturising properties, and acts as a natural detangler. It contains healthy fats which can be beneficial for stimulating hair growth, as well as repairing hair that feels dull or damaged.

Massaging coconut milk into your scalp can help improve blood circulation and promote healthier roots. It also has natural antifungal properties which can fight Malassezia, one of the main causes of dandruff.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the best multitasking hair care products around. It can help strengthen hair, condition your scalp and even stimulate new hair growth. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and lauric acid, and effectively penetrates the hair shaft to deliver these nutrients.

Applying coconut oil before exposing your hair to heat or chemical treatments can help protect it from drying out, and also acts as a natural sunscreen. It’s the perfect ingredient to use in a moisturising hair mask, and will make it easier to brush out any tangles and control frizz.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains oleic acid, palmitic acid and squalene, which are natural emollients with softening qualities. Many products contain synthetic versions of emollients, but they aren’t as effective in penetrating the hair shaft to help retain natural moisture.

Undernourished hair can be hard to style, and often breaks when you’re trying to work through tangles. Olive oil can smooth cuticles and split ends, which helps to reduce frizz and makes hair more manageable.

Ingredients

– 1/2 Avocado

– 1/2 Banana

– 50 ml Coconut Milk

– 2 tbsp Coconut Oil

– 1 tbsp Olive Oil

Method

Blend all the ingredients together until you have a very smooth mixture. This will make it easier to spread throughout your hair, and won’t leave any annoying clumps behind when you wash it out later.

Apply the mixture all over your hair and scalp, making sure your skin is saturated so it can benefit from all the essential nutrients. As the ends of your hair are driest, you can start at the tips and work your way up.

Leave the hair mask on for 15 to 20 minutes. You can put a towel over your shoulders to avoid getting messy, and then use a shower cap to avoid any dripping.

Wash your hair with a natural shampoo, making sure you thoroughly rinse out the mixture. It’s best to use lukewarm water to protect your skin’s natural oils, and seal in its moisture.

You can use your usual conditioner as well, and your strands should feel soft and easy to detangle. By infusing it with protein, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, you should have noticeably healthier looking hair.
