Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner Review

Gel liners are much better to use for lining eyes than the pencil ones..which tend to fade away and better than liquid liners for newbies where precision and control is required.
Abroad there are Bobbi brown gel liners which are the best..and which unfortunately we dont get in India..we have MAC Fluidlines and Clinique in high end which have gel and cream liners respectively..in many different colors which retail for Rs 1000/- and Rs 1100/- respectively.
In drugstore brands there is Maybelline and Tips and Toes which are for Rs. 375/- and Rs. 210/- respectively.
Coming to the Maybelline one…here it is…
Maybelline Gel Eyeliner

MRP: Rs 375/- for 2.8 g

And after trying to smudge them..

The Brush

Pros:
1. The texture of this gel is awesome..glides on super smooth and nicely.
2. The brush that comes with is damn good…I have shaky hands..yet it helps in getting a smooth line…and this brush gives a thick to thin..any desired lines.
3. It is long lasting and smudge proof as it claims..it stays on whole day without smudging or fading.
4. It gives an even and matte look..better than liquid liners.
5. It helps in getting that perfect winged look too.
6. Its perfect for tightlining the eyes.
7. It dries quickly and hence does not smear or spread.

Cons:
1. It comes in a single color in India i,e Black..there are other colors like Brown and Eggplant available abroad.
2. The brush is separate and there is a chance of misplacing it..unlike Tips and Toes which have their brush attached on top.
3. Tips and Toes is more economical at Rs.210/-
4. Its not meant to be used on waterline..so do not use it there..though some people do..I tried it twice..but it kinda irritated my eyes and I felt itchy..though nothing harsh…But I would suggest avoid it as it contains lots of chemicals and is Made In China :p

Rating:

Quality: 4/5
Value for money: 3.5/5
Availability: 5/5

Overall rating: 4/5

Would I buy it again: Yes if I get it in some other colors…or else would try Tips and Toes if I run out on this..which wont happen soon.

Tip: Usually gel liners tend to dry out..especially the Bobbi Brown ones..though Maybelline doesnt any soon…what one can do is keep them upside down so that the air in the jar gravitates downwards and stays a bit away from the gel..and if your gel liner has already dried out..try adding a few drops of Inglot Duraline to it.

Do you use gel liners? Which are your favourite ?

Khadi Body Massage Oil Review

This oil is a concoction of kesar, almond oil and olive oil. It gives a light yellowish tint in the bottle but comes out transparent. Its the lightest oil I have ever seen !! It just sinks into the skin and  gets absorbed super fast.It has an amazing kesar smell which I lovee..

MRP: Rs.130/- for 210 ml.

It does contain kesar strands which are seen in the bottle. It comes with a plastic cap tightly closed. So you can carry it around without the fear of it spilling.

Pros:
1. Its the perfect after shower oil..and gets absorbed easily into the skin…I use it on damp skin.
2. I use it on my face too..though its mentioned body oil but what it contains is nothing harmful and are just oils..its non comodogenic..it never broke me out..instead took care of my flakes in this winter.
3. Has an awesome kesar smell which is very light.
4. Its much better than those thick oils which makes one feel greasy as this is very light and seeps into the skin.
5. Comes with a tight cap which I have removed aside as I am not carrying it with me.
6. Economical at this price…and its gonna stay long too.
7. I sometimes use it at night and wake up to a super soft skin in the morning.

Cons:
1. The packaging is kinda ok…some oil spills out while using in a hurry and spreads.
2. Does not moisturise enough the dry parts like elbows…and the moisturisation stays for just 3-4 hours in winters.
3. Availability as for all Khadi products.

Palmolive Naturals Moisturising Body Wash Milk and Honey Review

Palmolive Naturals Moisturising Body Wash Milk and Honey Review

Palmolive Naturals Brand is not paid much attention to,and I don’t know the reason why, perhaps the marketing is not so good for their skin care and body wash range. They have a cream named Charmis which claims to have Vitamins A.C and E and anti oxidants, would like to try that, though I have not heard much about it. Even their Halo Shampoo has been much ignored.

Coming to the body wash, Palmolive has Milk and Honey- Soft Nourish and Milk and Almonds- Rich Nourish in Moisturising Body Wash category. They have Aroma Shower Gels separately in Relax and Vitality and also Thermal Spa Body Wash in Massage and Firming.

Well I have just tried the Milk and Honey Moisturising Body Wash as of yet..but I would love to try their other products too..

What the Company claims:
The Palmolive Naturals Milk & Honey range contains a combination of natural extracts of milk & honey that gently cleanse your skin and protect it from excessive dryness.

All Milk & Honey products contain moisturisers to help nourish your skin and leave it feeling wonderfully soft. The gentle ingredients envelope you in a soft Milk and Honey fragrance.

Ingredients: Water, Potassium laurate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Potassium Myristate, SLES, Sorbitol, Potassium Palmate, Glycol Distearate, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride, Fragrance, Tetrasodium EDTA, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Polyquaternium-7, Guar Hydroxypropyl, Trimonium Chloride, Lactose, Milk Protein, Honey, Citric acid, Tartrazine C.I. 19140,FD & C Red 40,C.I. 16035

Directions for use: Can be used with a loofah or by hand.
With loofah : Pour little on your wet loofah. Apply gently over wet skin. For best results, use loofah to work up rich lather before rinsing off.

MRP: Rs.45/- for 125ml (I had got it at Rs 40/-)

Its a light yellow colored sheer runny liquid with a mix of honey smell and a slight coconuty smell. It moisturises well as it claims.

Pros:

1. Lives upto its claim as its very moisturising.
2. Lathers well.
3. Comes with a loofah.
4. Very economical.
5. Travel friendly.

Cons:

1. Has SLES for its lather.
2. Packaging is not that good..when the bottle is half finished..its a pain to use as you have to press and hold for long for the product to dispense, plus the bottle looses the shape 🙁
3. The lotion gets dried up and collected at its opening like few face packs, which is to be cleaned. A little unhygienic.

Rating:

Quality: 4/5
Value for money: 3.5/5

5. Quantity is amazing..and the texture is such how much ever you use..it would stay for a long time.
6. I have not used it on my face but its amazingly perfect for the body.

Cons:
1 Has parabens as preservatives.
2. Availability would be a problem for some.
3. The smell is of like usual cocoa butters..but I am ok with it and it goes away after some time.
4. As its in a jar, you have to dip your hands in and thats unhygienic.

Skin Tones and Colors that Complement

Skin Tones (Warm and Cool) and Colors that Complement

Wonder why some colors light up your face while others totally wash you out? There is more to skin color than just complexion. Crack the color code by identifying your skin (under) tone and you’ll never go wrong with hues.

Peaches ‘n’ cream, milk ‘n’ roses, chocolate, olive, bronze, wheatish, coffee, chalky…there probably aren’t as many ice-cream flavors as there are complexions. However, every skin color, be it pale, fair, dusky or dark, has an ‘undertone’ to it which can be broadly described as “warm” or “cool”.

Figure out your undertone

Warm skin tones range from yellowish to even golden-bronze while cool skin tones are pinkish, pale or even bluish at times. So, how do you figure out yours? Simply flip your palm over and take a good hard look at the veins on the underside of your arm. If the vessels look green, chances are that your skin tone is warm but if they appear bluish, you are most likely a cool. Placing a white paper or cloth against your face in natural light is another way of assessing your undertones – if the paper appears yellowish in comparison, you are a cool and if it appears bluish, you are a warm. Simple, isn’t it? Another way is cool tones burn easily in the sun where as warm tones tan easily. There is also a Neutral which falls in between and mostly all colors go well on this tone.

Now that you have your finger on the right spot, it becomes relatively easier to zero in on colour palettes in apparel and make-up that are likely to compliment your skin.

While choosing make-up, people should opt for the same undertones as their skin. For example pastels and frosty shades complement cool skin tones while richer hues look great on warm skin. The same rule applies to gold and silver highlights. If you are cool skinned, you will find that silver jewelry and silver glitter looks better against your skin. On the other hand, gold jewelry adds a glow to warm skin tones.

If that still leaves you in a fix, here is a quick colour guide to help you :

Color Palette for Warm Skin

Blush
Pick apricots and peachy pinks if you are fair, bronzes and medium browns if you are medium and rich coppers and auburns if you are dark.

Lipstick
Nudes and rusty pinks go well with fair skin while darker skins look fab in maroons, burgundy, deep reds and lustrous browns.

Eye shadow
Experiment with different shades of bronze, gold, cream, taupe, emerald green, turquoise, fuchsia and coral.

Color Palette for Cool Skin

Blush
Pink, tawny, lavender and beige work well for fair complexions, rose and corals suit medium skins while dark skins shine out in shades of plum and deep pinks.

Lipstick
Frosty pinks and lavenders are for you if you are fair. For darker skin, take a pick from magenta, purples, frosty browns and muted shades of red.

Eye shadow
White, silver, pale blue, purple, sea green and lavender look good on cool skin tones.

All colors look good on Neutral skin tones.

Here is a chart of colors for warm and cool tones.

Warm Tones
Cool Tones

Get the base right

No matter how carefully you choose your colours, nothing will look right if the shade of your foundation is all wrong. Most women make the ghastly mistake of picking a foundation lighter than their skin’s natural colour in an attempt to look fairer. You must always try out the foundation on your cheekbones or neck before making a buy. Experiment across brands and choose one that completely blends into your skin. If you are unable to find a perfect match, opt for a color darker than your actual skin tone as a lighter shade will only make you look unnatural and pasty.

Once you have a basic understanding, you can then differentiate between for example, a “warm pink” and a “cool pink”. A warm pink is a peachy pink. A cool pink would be a purplish pink. A warm green would be a yellowish green. A cool green would be more blue.

A warm toned foundation powder is more yellow based. A cool toned one is more pink.

Warm celebs: Malaika Arora Khan, Bipasha Basu
Cool clebs: Karisma Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai

Are you a warm or a cool toned??

Revlon Manicure Essentials Kit Review, Photos

Revlon Manicure Essentials Kit Review, Photos

Hey first of all HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you…sorry for not posting from the last 2-3 days..I was unwell….yes unwell on new year 🙁
As I had said before my cousin from US got me the Bath and Body Works JCB Body Lotion and this Revlon manicure kit.

What the Company claims:  Compact kit for perfect manicures on-the-go. Includes four expert tools.
Everything you need for a professional manicure in an easily portable kit. Includes four expert tools for the perfect manicure–Dual–ended Cuticle Trimmer, Curved Blade Nail Clip, Compact Emeryl file for flawless shaping and a Buffer for a brilliant, natural shine. Deluxe nylon carrying case protects tools for easy transport.

  •  Dual–ended Cuticle Trimmer pushes back cuticles and keeps them neat.
  •  Nail Clip with curved blades safely trims nails.
  •  Compact Emeryl file shapes and smoothes nails quickly.
  •  Buffer creates a high gloss shine. Gentle enough to use everyday.

Over 75 years of superior quality.Precision crafted, fully inspected to ensure exceptional performance.

It has lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects (but sadly valid only in US and Canada. 🙁 )

How to use:

  • First soak hands in warm, soapy water to prepare.
  • To trim nails: Clip from each side of the nail towards the center. Do not cut below the nail line.
  • To shape nails: Start with Emeryl file’s shaping side to shape nails. Follow with finishing side to smooth and shape. Always file in one direction to prevent splitting.
  • To trim cuticles: Push cuticles back with contoured end of cuticle trimmer, then glide metal end (with V–tip facing up) along cuticle edge.
  • To buff nails: Remove all nail enamel before buffing. With the white surface, buff vigorously across the nail until stains and ridges are removed. Using the grey side, finish nails to a brilliant shine.

MRP: I am not aware as its a gift..but at international.drugstore.com it says Rs 260/-

We all know the uses of a nail clipper and filer as we are using it from a long time. Let me share with you the uses of a cuticle trimmer and buffer.

Cuticle is the protective seal between the nail plate and the skin. However, some people tend to have thick and rough cuticles. The cuticle skin gets thicker and also grows in a upward direction. In such cases, a cuticle trimmer can be used. However avoid cutting excessive cuticle skin as it can leave your nail at risk of infection.A cuticle trimmer is a nail care product which is used to trim rough, thick cuticles and hangnails. Thick cuticles give an unpleasant look; hangnails around the nails can catch clothes and cause a lot of pain. To solve this problem, you can get yourself a cuticle trimmer. However, a cuticle trimmer should be used occasionally as excessive trimming of cuticles can lead to infection. It also helps making the nails appear longer..especially for those who have short nail beds. But do not forget to soften the cuticles using oil or moisturiser before trimming them.

Buffer on the other hand gives a nice healthy sheen to the nails.A nail buffer is what is used to smooth out the nails and remove any pits and ridges – hence it buffs them up.

Coming to the kit..

Pros:

1. Its economical at this price.
2. Has the 4 necessary tools required the most,
3. Quality of the tools is damn good.
4. Comes with a pouch with separate holders.
5. Easy to carry around anywhere as the pouch would snugly fit in.

Cons:

1. I did not find any except the availability issue as I have not seen this in India..but if you happen to lay your hands on this…do get it…coz it would stay a long time with you..

Rating:

Quality- 5/5
Value for money-5/5
