I have always been a fan of Himalaya Herbals products, some of them are my Holy Grail and I have been using them since my school and college days i.e. years literally!
Today I am reviewing their Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub.
What it does: Himalaya’s Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub exfoliates dead skin cells to remove impurities that routine cleansing cannot tackle. It contains Crab Apple, a soothing antiseptic and keratolytic agent that helps loosen dead skin fragments. Walnut Shell granules scrub away dirt, blackheads and dead cells, and Wheat Germ Oil is a rich source of natural Vitamin E. These natural ingredients cleanse, nourish and moisturize your skin to make it soft, fresh and radiant.
Key ingredients:
Crab Apple has antiseptic, cooling, soothing, nutritive and keratolytic properties. It reduces skin inflammation and helps remove dead skin fragments. Crab Apple is also a rich source of vitamins and antioxidants which prevent skin cell degeneration and premature skin aging.
Wheat Germ Oil, due to its high concentration of Vitamin E, along with proteins and natural antioxidants, is ideal for most skin types. It is the perfect ingredient for our face scrub as it nourishes the skin and boosts the skin’s elasticity.
The exfoliating micro-particles in Walnut Shell scrub away dirt, blackheads and dead skin cells.
Directions for use: Apply Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub in a circular motion on the face and neck. Wipe off with a moist cotton pad. Rinse with water and pat dry. Use at least once a week for a glowing, healthy complexion.
Suitable for dry to normal skin.
Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub is dermatologically-tested, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic.
MRP: Rs.70/- for 50g, Rs. 130/- for 100g
It comes in an easy to carry and use, flip cap tube packaging. It has a slight medicinal smell which can be bothering for a few. I love the creamy base it has. And the walnut shell granules are not too harsh.
How I like to use it is, damp my face a bit, take some product on my fingertips and massage in circular motions all over the face, avoiding the eyes and lips. Go up and down on the nose and sides of the nose and also concentrate on the forehead and chin area, basically wherever you get whiteheads or blackheads.
I usually get more whiteheads and not that many blackheads, that too on my nose, exfoliation helps get rid of whiteheads before they turn into blackheads. If you exfoliate regularly, you can nip whiteheads in the bud and get rid of them. I usually exfoliate once a week coz I have combination skin, but if you have oily skin, exfoliate twice a week.
Since the base of this scrub is very creamy, it helps glide on the skin amazingly well and with ease, especially on damp skin. The granules being mild enough for use on the face too, even people with sensitive skin can use this, but if you have very sensitive skin, I would advise you to go with another Himalaya Herbals scrub and not this one, I would be reviewing that soon.
Also post washing the face, my skin is quite moisturised and does not feel stretchy or crave a moisturiser, thanks to the crab apple and wheatgerm oil in it.
Overall, I would say, like most of my Himalaya Herbals favourites, I like this one too. Totally recommend it for normal to combination and dry skin. I have something else for oily and sensitive skin, from Himalaya Herbals, which I would be reviewing next.

Have you tried the #HimalayaHerbals #GentleExfoliatingWalnutScrub? What do you think of it?
If you have ever had the displeasure or ill-fate of eating it, chances are your face would have turned into the most hideous possible contortions for it is bitter beyond description! It is that ingredient which Grannies have coaxed us into chewing as kids and teens and then, we would pretend to gulp it down while waiting anxiously to look for a basin to spit it out. God forbid if she’d catch us red- handed spitting it, she’d shove double the quantity of those leaves in our mouth (at least mine did) to help us “fight infections and skin problems” (as per her). She, without an iota of doubt was right for Neem (yes, do not twist your face in disgust) indeed is a storehouse of benefits. Neem has antibacterial, antiparasitic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties that not only benefit your health but also can help you get rid of common beauty problems.
Today, I will review a product that has neem as its core ingredient and it is none other than HIMALAYA HERBALS PURIFYING NEEM PACK. Let us see if this deserves a place in our beauty armoury or is an ‘All sizzle no steak’
DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Apply evenly over cleansed face and neck, avoiding the area around the eyes. Allow to dry for around 10-15 minutes. Remove with a wet sponge and wash with cool water. Use once/twice a week. Do not apply on inflamed or broken skin.
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS- Neem is an excellent skin care ingredient known for its antibacterial properties. It improves general skin health and immunity, combating bacterial infections such as acne, boils and ulcers. Neem tackles bacteria from the root and prevents the recurrence of pimples and blemishes. Turmeric has been used as an antiseptic for centuries. The herb also has strong anti-inflammatory properties which soothe your skin gently. It also makes your skin soft and supple. Fuller’s Earth is an excellent cleanser. It removes deep-seated dirt and skin pollutants.
WHAT IT CLAIMS- Himalaya’s Purifying Neem Pack brings together the goodness of Neem, Fuller’s Earth and Turmeric, which work together to regulate excess oil secretion, clean clogged pores and prevent the recurrence of pimples.
MY EXPERIENCE-
Himalaya herbals purifying neem face pack comes packed in a simple plastic tube with a flip-top cap. The cap does not lose its grip overtime and sturdy enough to avert leakage/spillage. Overall, as far as packaging is concerned, I find it up to the mark and there is no need to revamp it unless a novel feature is added (which does not mean ‘Change the colour/illustration on the package because there is no novel ‘feature’ in that).
The pack has a slightly thick texture. It has a brown tinge which doesn’t leave the colour on your face thankfully when you wash it off. Once applied, it imparts a cooling sensation and that is music to one’s ears given how blistering summers in India are. It takes 5-7 minutes to dry (my skin type is dry. Duration may vary slightly) and washing it off too, is a cakewalk. It imparts a squeaky clean look and a little glow too but it renders my skin all the more dry. Because of its drying nature, I won’t recommend it to ladies with dry skin. Steer clear off it. It did warn you beforehand by printing “For Normal to oily skin” on its package in the first place so, neither you nor I can pin the blame on it squarely. I can’t comment on its ability to soak up excess oil because my skin type, as you know by now, is dry.
However, I asked two ladies from my family to try this to form a clear idea about its performance. My mother has normal skin while my cousin has oily (not excessively oily) skin. For my mother, the results were the same and she was satisfied with it. But it was my cousin who went gaga over it for this mask soaked excess oil off her. The fact that it is handy spells cheer for her.
All in all,I can say is that it imparts a clear look and glow. However, the glow is transient so please have realistic expectations. Given the fact that is pumped with parabens and DMDM Hydantion (list of inactives), I don’t find developing a hang of it a wise idea for any one. To sum up, it is efficacious but meant to be used sparingly
GOOD-
1. Readily available
2. Economical price
3. Sturdy packaging
4. Imparts a squeaky clean look
5. Adds a subtle glow (it is temporary however)
6. Works wonders for oily/extremely oily skin
BAD-
1. Not suitable at all for dry/extremely dry skin
2. Chemical-laden. Contains parabens and DMDM Hydantion
RATING- 4/5
Editor’s Note: I totally agree with you Nidhal, not for dry skin. I have combination skin which was more towards the oily side during my teens and I have used this a lot! Absolutely loved it, the fuller’s earth would absorb the oil and clear & tighten the pores while the neem and turmeric helped calm down acne or avoid breakouts. My brother who has super oily skin, also loved using it 😀 However the Neem face wash from this same Himalaya range is my HG, and I come back to it always! Can blindly trust that.
Have you tried the Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Pack? It’s a must try if you have oily, acne prone skin.
Nature’s Essence Nourishing Neem & Aloe Vera Moisturizing Lotion Review
By Nidhal
One is a saviour for those with dry, patchy, lustreless and dull skin. Another is a potent weapon to fight acne, pimples and blackheads. Their blend is bound to be promising for one’s skin. The first ingredient is Aloe vera (called Ghritkumaari and at times, Kumaari in Hindi) and the second is Neem. Do I need to elaborate even a little on the bounties of these two skin saviours? There would be few who’d not have tried either on their skin. If you are one of those, go grab a few leaves of Aloe vera and a handful of Neem leaves. Mash and treat your skin to their virtues to leave it thanking you.
However, if you are an indolent soul who would choose to watch whatever is being on TV than move a bit to grab the remote and change the channel, then doing the above (preparing the mask ) would surely be the last thing on your mind, right? 😛
So, let’s slather something that is made from these two skin saviours instead? In line with that thought, I zeroed in on NATURE’S ESSENCE NOURISHING NEEM AND ALOE VERA MOISTURISING LOTION one fine evening. Let us prepare its report card today.
PRICE –Rs 85/- for 60 ml
DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Gently apply the moisturiser in right quantity on face and body and welcome your skin to a world of nourishment and optimum care.
KEY/ACTIVE INGREDIENTS- Neem, Aloe vera extracts and aroma oil.
WHAT IT CLAIMS- A handpicked blend of antiseptic neem and nourshing aloevera extracts. Added aroma oils soothe the mind & body and give a nourishing treat to your skin.
MY EXPERIENCE-
Packed in a simple plastic tube with a cap on top, the packaging of NATURE’S ESSENCE NOURISHING NEEM AND ALOE VERA MOISTURISING LOTION is fine. It is spillage-free since the cap is sturdy, hygienic and travel-friendly. I do not have any problem with respect to packaging. It is up to the mark for me.
The texture of the lotion is underwhelming for me. It is predominantly runny which when applied on skin makes it oily/greasy. My skin type is dry and after applying a pea-sized amount of it, my skin felt uncomfortably oily. I have applied oils beforehand on my skin to moisturise them such as- extra virgin olive oil, sweet almond oil, virgin sesame oil, etc. but none of them made me feel like a ‘pakora’ being drawn out from a ‘kadhaai’! I admit, I give ‘Desi’ examples to help people visualise things.
So, if a person with dry skin feels that it makes skin oily, there is little in fact no reason for people with oily/extremely oily skin to invest in it. The staying power too, is underwhelming. It stays for ½-1 hour at max at a stretch in summers. Naturally, during winters, when moisture levels will drop in the atmosphere and our skin’s thirst for hydration will augment by leaps and bounds, this lotion will turn out to be disappointing. The aroma is mild and temporary.
A major limitation is that its ingredients’ list hasn’t been furnished. Only key/active ingredients are mentioned which is highly irresponsible, evasive and negligent on part of Team Nature’s Essence. Rules and regulations regarding production and provision of information about herbal and natural products in our country are very lax. Companies milk this to their advantage by adding merely a few herbal ingredients/their extracts and marketing it as a ‘natural/herbal’ product. In this regard, I am sceptical of Nature’s essence too for it has also abstained from providing the complete list of ingredients.
Even if we keep this aspect aside for a minute, as a product it falls flat on nearly all parameters. Its texture, staying power and after-effects are nowhere commendable. Chuck it away! This one’s not worth your time and hard-earned money.
GOOD-
1. Fine packaging
2. Readily available
3. Available in different sizes
4. Price is budget-friendly
5. Aroma is mild hence, won’t irk those with a sensitive nose
BAD-
1. Complete list of ingredients has not been furnished
2. Runny texture. Lotions should have a thick/creamy texture. If not, at least specify which skin type should opt for it.
3. Makes skin oily/greasy on application. Thus, unsuitable for oily/extremely oily skin type.
4. Does nothing commendable. No glow. No softness. No lustre.
RATING-0.5/5
Editor’s Note: Oh God, what a dud! Never going near it, thanks for the review Nidhal

Top 10 Pink Lipsticks for Indian Skin Tones, Prices, Buy Online
By Sanchita
When I did the ‘Top 10 Red Lipsticks‘ post I thought I would be fun to do the Top 10 Pink Lipsticks as well, but girl! It was a tough one. Pink is such a color that no matter what the complexion is, it looks cute. So you can never ask a girl that which pink she prefers, because she is going to choose every pink lippy in her kitty. Every brand has minimum of 10-20 shades of pink in their range of lipstick and I narrowed down one pink color from every possible brand. I have included daytime pink to bright summery pink to Barbie pink for all occasions which will suit an array of Indian complexions. So, let’s take a look at the list.
1. Faces Canada I Do Ultime Pro Velvet Matte Lipstick – INR 649 (BUY HERE)
This is one of my recent discoveries which I wear regularly. This a soft pink, more of a dusty tea rose kind of color. A perfect everyday wearable pink for fair to medium skin tones. It is a subtle color which can be worn with a smoky eye as well. The color has a creamy texture which settles down to a comfortable matte finish without accentuating on fine lines. It is a long-wearing lip color and perfect for matte lovers. The price is also reasonable for the quality it delivers.
Streetwear Color Rich Ultra Moist is one of the best affordable lipstick range. The packaging is cute, nice and totally light weight. The texture is neither too creamy nor too matte to accentuate to fine lines or dry lips and hence, one can easily wear it and would love it. Moreover, it is very forgiving to dry and chapped lips. Coming to the color, it is pretty deep fuchsia-berry sort of color and will suit all complexions. It instantly brightens up the face. You can also try the color Spell Bound which is more of a daytime pink kind of color and looks soft and chic.
3. MAC Flat Out Fabulous (Retro Matte) – INR 1450
Well MAC has a whopping price tag but you can’t deny the beauty of MAC. From the magnificent shade card to the indisputable texture, MAC has it all. From the pink family, I would prefer the Flat Out Fabulous (Retro Matte) which is a bright fuchsia pink (with slight purple tone) that serves every complexion. If you prefer more of a subtle pink, try out MAC Cosmo or Please Me for day time. The lipsticks are surely long wearing and highly pigmented that hides the pigmentation effectively.
4. Sugar Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick Mary Poppins – INR 799 (BUY HERE)
I am simply in awe of these lip crayons and one of the best in the market. The color Mary Poppins is a bright fuchsia pink without any undertones. It has a creamy powdery texture that settles in matte finish. Although it requires a lip prepping prior application. The color is highly pigmented and one swipe is just enough and the staying power is extremely long lasting. The shade Holly Golightly is another stunning day wear pink with a subtle formula and looks great with formal wear.
5. L’Oréal Paris Color Riche La Vie en Rose Collection – INR 995 – 950 (BUY HERE)
L’Oréal has recently launched the La Vie en Rose Collection and it is an eye candy for every girl out there who loves pink. From soft pink, nude pink, vampy pink – name it and you have it all. Eva’s and Aishwariya’s pink are the prettiest one among the collection and definitely check out Bhumika’s review for detailed information. These lipsticks comes in Moist Mat and Extraordinaire collection. Price wise it is a bit high but surely the quality speaks for it.
6. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Cherries in the Snow – INR 550
Cherries in the Snow is a classy pink with cherry red undertones which is the typical vintage pink and all-time favorite lip color from Revlon. The range has some very pretty colors and this is one of them. The texture is ultra-hydrating which works very well for dry and chapped lips. Super Lustrous Cream Lipstick contains an exclusive LiquiSilk formula that combines pure color with silk enriched mega moisturizers and vitamins. The color will suit the Indian skin tones pretty well and the pigmentation is top notch. The price tag is also reasonable compared to the contemporary variants.
7. Maybelline Lip Gradation Pink 2 – INR 500 (BUY HERE for 400) Swatches HERE
One of the recent launches of Maybelline is the Lip Gradation pencils with a lip-smudger at the end. The color Pink 2 is a deep pink which looks stunning across every Indian skin tones especially because it has such warm undertones to it. It brightens up the face yet a comfortable day wear pink. The pencil is so precise that you won’t need a lip liner at all and the texture is smooth. It gives a nice and comfortable matte finish and has a long wearing formula as well.
8. Lakme 9 To 5 Matte Lip Care P2 Pink Collar – INR 450 (BUY HERE for 300) Review HERE
If you are looking for a subtle pink that looks like a statement color yet not bright and deep, this is the color for you. 9 to 5 has a beautiful range of colors to choose from and the quality of the lipstick is stunning, compared to the price you pay for it. It is a mauve pink and the texture is so smooth that it glides on the lips with ease. It settles down to a matte finish and a great choice of color for romantic dates. Even when the color fades off after 4-5hours, it leaves behind a pretty pink tint to the lips.
9. Chambor Extreme Wear Liquid Transferproof Lipstick 402 – INR 845 (BUY HERE for 805)
Chambor recently launched these little babies and I am falling head over heel for them. One shade that stole my heart is shade no. 402 which is a dusty pink with mauve undertone. This is the exact dupe of the Kylie Jenner lip kit called Poise K and we simply adore her lip colors. This liquid lipstick is richly pigmented and gives a flat matte finish to the lips. It is extremely long wearing and come across as an elegant lip color for every complexion. (P.S: I just got this one co-incidentally! Review coming soon)
10. Colorbar Kiss Proof Lip Stain Mauve Dusk – INR 900 (BUY HERE) Review & Swatches HERE
Colorbar’s Mauve Dusk is more of a deep pink with slight mauve undertones that is flattering to every skin tones. It is a liquid lipstick with a very pretty wand that spreads the color on the lips very precisely without being messy. It gives a matte finish and hence dry lips have to prep the lips very well before application. The pigmentation is commendable and so as the long lasting formula to the lips. More importantly, the color, once dried, doesn’t transfer at all. (P.S: This is my absolute favourite!!)
Burt’s Bees Replenishing Regenerant Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil Review
By Nidhal
There’s no shortage of lip balms in an average lady’s armoury but still, one cannot simply get over them, right? There will always be a lip balm that will entice you towards itself the way we are lured to the kitchen when our mothers whip our favourite dish 😛
One lip balm that has been on my to-buy list has been BURTS BEES REPLENISHING REGENERANT LIP BALM. Since winters have wrapped up, I have bid adieu to my lip butters and cleared my ‘armoury’ to make way for lip balms. It goes without saying that after burning a hole in my pocket, I managed to grab this lip balm and today, its report card by me is right before your eyes. Scroll to see if it emerged with flying colours or flunked.
PRICE- Rs 950/- for 4.25 g
DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Glide on lips as often as desired.
INGREDIENTS- Not mentioned
WHAT IT CLAIMS– Give your thirsty lips a whole lot of love with our lip balm with antioxidant-rich Pomegranate Oil. 100% natural, it happily hydrates and revitalizes your lips with a hint of color for an even, beautifully toned appearance.
• Packed with the power of Pomegranate Oil.
• Sweet Pomegranate flavor.
• Single tubes and twinpack available
MY EXPERIENCE-
Burt’s bees replenishing regenerant lip balm comes packed in a cardboard container with the main balm being ensconced in a sturdy plastic tube with a cap on top. Due to the provision of the balm in a tube, I find it a lot less troublesome to use than lip butters which require the user to dip their fingers in the tub of the lip butter. Its cap is sturdy too and hasn’t lost its grip despite a month of use. On the whole, it is up to the mark in terms of packaging.
The balm has a smooth, non-greasy and non-buttery texture. It is lightweight and in spite of being swiped several times, you won’t get a heavy feel. Its staying power sadly, is not praiseworthy given its price. It stays for 1-2 hours in case of my lips which are not dry. With heavy meals, retouch is tacit.
Even though it looks pink, yet it is absolutely colourless. No matter how many times you swipe it, it just doesn’t throw any colour. That’s’ a major put-off for me for I think those with slightly/highly pigmented lips won’t be able to use it. Its moisturising power isn’t commendable. I don’t find it hydrating my lips deeply. So, for those with chapped lips, again it is of limited use.
Despite using it for a month, I didn’t notice any noteworthy result in the condition of lips. A bad investment? Yes, absolutely.
GOOD-
Sturdy packaging. The balm never gets stuck in the tube despite regular use (exceptions may exist).
Mild and pleasant aroma
BAD-
Highly expensive for a lip balm
Disappointing staying power for the price paid
Almost zero tint. It won’t cover pigmentation hence, of less use to those with dark lips or even slight pigmentation.
Does not hydrate lips intensely
Availability is an issue. It isn’t still easy to spot in neighbouring markets.
Hasn’t impacted the condition of my lips in any noticeable way despite a month of usage.
Ingredients’ list has not been furnished.
RATING- 1/5
Obviously do not recommend and not buying it again.
Editor’s Note: Whoa, I have heard such mixed reviews. Some of the Burt’s Bees lip balms are pretty amazing. I have one which is pretty good. Also I did not find this Regenerant one on their website, but only the basic moisturizing Pomegranate one, so this one is discontinued now I believe.
Have you tried this Burt’s Bees Replenishing Regenerant Pomegranate Lip Balm yet?
Top 10 Neutral Eye Shadow Palettes in India, Prices, Buy Online
By Sanchita
Neutral eye makeup are the ‘in’ thing now and no matter it is daytime makeup look or night one, neutral eye always turns out to be the glamorous one. Improvising with neutral look is the safest choice if you are unable to decide the look you want. On Indian skin, the neutral look suits the best with pale browns, taupe, soft copper and bronze. Just add a dash of winged liner and a rocking lip color, which would give you a simple yet stunning look. These kind of looks can hardly be creates with one of two colors and you need a proper palette at your disposal. Hence, I thought of doing an affordable list of best Neutral Eye Shadow Palette in India. These brands are readily available in various e-commerce sites or retailed easily in the market. So, let’s take a look at the list.
No matter what makeup it is, Maybelline will always top the list for me. The Nudes palette is has 12shades of various neutrals like browns, grey, bronze, and taupe with few matte and shimmery highlighters for various looks. It is perfect for both warm and cool skin tones and a number of looks can be created with this one. The texture is soft and the pigmentation is also good for daily wear. This is surely a great neutral palette for the price tag.
2. Urban Decay Naked – (Approx. 5000 INR)
The ultimate madness for neutrals started with the UD palettes and honestly, I can never decide which one to choose between the three. UD Naked palettes are legendary! Each of them is gorgeous to the core and undeniably amazing. Each palettes consists 12 colors and best for creating any neutral or soft smoky look. The texture is just like butter and highly pigmented. It is very easy to blend and layer and known for its outstanding quality. The staying power and finish is also commendable. Although the price is high but totally worth it.
3. Makeup Revolution Iconic 2 Palette – 1050 INR (BUY HERE for 790)
The Iconic range of Makeup Revolution is the dupe of UD palettes and are easily available in India as well. UD costs a bomb and hence when we want an affordable dupe, Makeup Revolution is the best deal we can get. Among all the Iconic and Iconic Pro, my favorite for neutrals will be the Iconic 2 which is the dupe of UD Naked 2. The combination of colors are very pretty with bronze, soft browns, grey, black and shimmery highlighters. It is a perfect daytime palettes and readily available on discounts as well.
4. MUA Heaven and Earth Palette – 1050 INR
One of the best neutral brown palettes I have used so far! Though most of the shades are shimmery finish but they look exceptionally natural on the eyelids. Most of the colors are warm toned and especially suit the Indian skin tones. The texture is very soft and pretty blend-able. The pigmentation is also good and you can layer it very nicely if you want that intense look. MUA also has the palette “Undress Me Too” (Review & Swatches HERE) which is another great palette for cool toned and grey colors. P.S: While Heaven and Earth is Urban Decay Naked Dupe, the Undress Me Too is Urban Decay Naked 2 Dupe
5. L’Oreal Paris Color Riche La Palette – 1399 INR (BUY HERE for 1119)
The Color Riche La Palette from L’Oreal Paris comes in a sturdy black casing with a double tip sponge applicator and an in-built mirror. It is a very recent launch in India and is available in 2 shades – Beige and Rose. The colors are very similar but has slight changes in them. The Beige one is lighter than the Rose. In my opinion, the Rose will be a perfect choice for the Indian skin tones with a handful of deep colors and various neutrals to choose from.
This is a brand I surely want to be officially available in India! Their quality is impeccable and the price is comparatively affordable even after shipping and taxes. The texture is soft and creamy powdery and has very less fall out issues. The pigmentation is as gorgeous as it can get with single swipe itself! Their i-divine palettes are incredibly good and when it comes to neutrals, there are two best of the best – Au Naturel and Oh So Special. Au Naturel has beautiful peaches and deep browns and a jet matte black for night time look. Overall, it is a highly recommended one. (All Sleek MakeUP Review and Swatches HERE)
7. Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate – 1550 INR (Available on Nykaa)
The ‘Chocolate’ series of Makeup Revolution is worth all the attention is has. These are the dupes of the high end Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. Of course, Too Faced is high priced and often out of stock. However, the Makeup Revolution one is available and the quality is definite worth talking about. The blend of browns, burgundy, deep chocolate, beige and pearly highlighters is just as craving as a chocolate bar. The pigmentation is very good and a lot of day and night time looks can be easily created with this. P.S: I have the Too Faced Palette and I know how exactly similar this is, at 1/4th the price, this is definitely a must have!
8. Freedom Pro 12 Stunning Smokes – 1200 INR (Available on Nykaa)
Freedom is another London Based makeup brand and becoming very prominent in the beauty market in India. Their Pro 12 palettes are excessively popular with various mattes, nudes, shimmery and deep colors. The best neutral palette is the Stunning Smokes which has 12 gorgeous mixture of mattes and shimmery colors. The colors are so pigmented that even the lighter ones shows up pretty well on the lids and the texture is also a total winner.
9. FACES Glam On Color Perfect Eyeshadow Smokey – 599 INR
A quad of 4 shimmery beautiful colors – bronze, plum, taupe and a pearly highlighter with an affordable price tag is surely worth trying. The packaging is sturdy and compact which comes with a mirror and an applicator. The texture is soft with a decent saturation of color. It works well even without primers and will suit the cool and neutral skin tones very well.
10. Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette – 2300 INR
This is the closest dupe of the renowned Urban Decay Naked 2 and Naked 3. There are 20 colors in this palettes, consisting of various shimmery and matte peach, browns, burgundy and taupe. The texture is very soft and blends profusely on the lids. The pigmentation is also good and helps you the layer the deeper color easily. It has a very good staying power of 5-6hours without primer and the palette, overall, is a great value for money.
Editor’s Note: I love the Sleek MakeUP Oh So Special palette, it’s my favourite. And also the Too Faced Chocolate bar Palette, the Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate is an exact dupe shade to shade, another must have! I want to try the Coastal Scents Revealed 2. This is a very useful compilation Sanchita.

How to Make your Hair Stronger & Thicker Naturally
Do you want a stronger, thicker mane? Well, who doesn’t. One of the main causes for weak hair is thinning, which makes it more prone to hair fall, and inversely overall thinner density and fine hair. Many of you have always asked for my hair care routine, now I don’t follow particular brands all the time, but these tips are something I follow in general always.
Read on to know how you can get stronger & thicker hair naturally.
1. Washing hair on alternate days
If you are washing hair every day, then you are washing off the natural oils from the scalp, which keep the scalp healthy. On the contrary, if you are washing it just once a week, you are letting dirt and dandruff settle on your scalp making it more prone to hair fall. The frequency of washing hair should be moderate, preferably once every two-three days.
2. Never brush wet hair
Never ever do that. This is a strict NO-NO. Wet hair is prone to breakage. It may come off from the roots or even split in parts. Invest in a wide tooth comb, preferably made of wood, to comb through wet hair with a very gentle hand. Take a firm grip of your hair in small bunches, while combing through the roots, so that the roots are not succumbed to unnecessary pulls.
3. Well Balanced Diet
Your hair may be thin because the roots are unable to get the nutrients it needs, from your diet. Proteins and Vitamins are an absolute necessity for your hair. Include fish, daal, pulses, and soybeans (for proteins) And nuts, fruits and veggies (for Vitamin B, Biotin and Omega 3 Fatty Acids). Flax seeds, Avocado deserve special mention as a rich source of Vitamins. Also, Vitamin C helps promote hair growth, so a lot of citrus based fruits and Amla must also be included. As a last resort, you can also take supplements which usually contain biotin, fish oil, protein, multi-vitamins, etc. Also, drink lots of water as mentioned always.
4. Massage your scalp
Massage your scalp daily with your fingertips with a gentle hand for better blood circulation of the head and scalp. You can also go for an overnight oil treatment or a one hour massage just before you shampoo, with warm coconut or olive oil or a mix of both. I also add Evian Vitamin E capsule oil at times.
5. Avoid hot tools
Use hot tools only during special occasions (read once in a blue moon). Avoid it as much as you can. Air dry your hair instead of a blow dryer and use frizz-fighting products. If you still have to use hot tools, always use a heat protectant.
6. Protect your hair
Protect your hair from direct sunlight by using hats, scarves, etc. Go for regular trimming to get rid of split ends and breakage.
7. Do not color your hair
I know if someone has grey hair and wants to cover that, coloring is necessary but if want to color your hair just for the fun of it, you are going to damage your hair, especially if you go for lighter colors like a blonde which requires bleaching of the hair. It thins your hair to 1/4th of the original size! I have pictures and would find them and add them maybe. I had just gone for highlights on a few strands a year ago and that too a darker color but I literally saw the size difference in the colored strand of hair and my normal strand of hair! I am never coloring my hair again, unless I have way too many greys. Also would prefer using something natural first like henna or sesame oil if that can help. But of course if you want to color anyway, always take good care of your hair by regular oiling, deep conditioning, etc. coz color does thin and dry out your hair!
All the above tips when followed religiously would help reduce hair loss and promote new hair growth which will help your hair become stronger and thicker.
I follow all of these and try to follow the diet one as much as a I can. I rarely use a blow dryer or straighter, I prefer natural, air dried hair and let my hair be. I always use a conditioner post shampoo and also a leave-in serum or cream, I like MoroccanOil and Kerastase for that.

I have gone shorter this year coz I wanted a change but I am sure my hair will grow back again quickly 🙂
Do you follow these tips? What do you do for stronger, thicker hair?
Top 10 Matte Red Lipsticks for Indian Skin, Prices, Buy Online
By Sanchita
I am sure all of us are aware of the saying that, red lipstick is to women what sports cars are for men. Definition of red lipstick is different to every woman. To me, it symbolizes power. Every woman (must) have a red lipstick in her stash. It has the power to glam up any look and instantly brightens up the face like anything. It adds a sophisticated touch to every look and the beauty of it is undeniable. It has the panache and classiness of a confident woman, playfulness of carefree little girl inside every one of us and bold and fierceness to rule the world. From Hollywood to Bollywood, we have seen and admired the Divas sporting the dashing and gorgeous red lips all you have to do is choose the right kind of ‘red’ and see how it rocks your world.
So, to lessen down the burden of hunting the best ‘red’ for those sexy pouts, here’s the list of top 10 red lipstick for Indian skin tones.
Mostly all shades are matte and long staying, click on the links to read reviews or see swatches or click on ‘Buy here’ to buy it online and some at amazing deals.
1. MAC RUBY WOO – 1450 INR
This is, by far, the best of the best red you can choose with your eyes closed. The mystery behind this one is still undiscovered that how a single shade of red can look ‘drop-dead’ gorgeous irrespective of every skin tone and complexion. When in doubt, choose Ruby Woo because it can never disappoint you, like ever! It has a rich and intense matte texture but glides on the lips like velvet. The price might haunt you for some time but once you wear it, you can never go back to another red.
2. SUGAR MATTE AS HELL SCARLET O’HARA – 799 INR(BUY HERE) (Read Review of the Range HERE)
The brand brought forward four signature matte lip crayons and trust me, it was a heart wrenching condition to choose one. The Scarlet O’Hara is the ‘on-the-face’ bright shade of red, perfect to make you look like a diva! The shade is like a rockstar which has all the ability to take all the limelight alone. When you’re wearing this, make sure to keep the other makeup minimal. The staying power is phenomenal and an excellent choice for the brides.
3. FACES ULTIME PRO MATTE LIP PENCIL MIDNIGHT ROSE – 799 INR(BUY HERE) (Review and Swatches HERE)
They are reds that make you look like stunning and there are the ones which are bright and eventful. Well, the Midnight Rose is something which gives you the power and confidence like no other. It slightly a darkened maroon red lip color, with gorgeous color pay off and simply an epitome of awesomeness. The texture is creamy smooth with a velvet matte finish. It doesn’t budge a bit and stay put literally the whole day. It is a must-have and highly recommend color of 2015!
4. LOREAL LINCOLN ROSE – 925 INR (BUY HERE for 799) (Review and Swatches HERE)
The shade was an instant hit when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore it to Cannes. The packaging is gorgeous and so is the shade. It is pink based red which is moderately bright and perfect for both day and night time. The texture is comfortably creamy and settles into a matte finish and wears a long time. It is leaves behind a sweet trail red on the lips after being faded. The color is extremely sweet and feminine and if you are not comfortable with ultra-bright and hot reds, you can go for this.
5. REVLON MATTE REALLY RED – 599 INR
The Matte range of Revlon has some seriously gorgeous reds that have been continuing till today since 1951. The Really Red is a blue based bright tomato red that has the hint of rich and intense color. It is one of the rarest blue-based red that look flattering of warm Indian skin tones and another bridal red. The texture is like a creamy comfortable matte and extremely easy on dry and parched lips. A classy shade of red with a great wear time.
6. LAKME 9 TO 5 MATTE LIP COLOR -RED COAT – 450 INR (BUY HEREfor 365)
This red lipstick from the 9 to 5 range of Lakme is a pretty semi-bright deep blue-based red. It has no shimmers or glitter speckles and tailored for an alluring matte finish. It is, again, a pretty bridal red for matte lovers and looks pretty good on fair to dusky skin tones. However, the darker complexions with warm undertones might not be able to pull it off very well. This is like a classic red lipstick from the 90s and still beautiful.
Deborah Milano Rosetto Atomic Red Mat 05 is a deep cherry red that gives a powder matte finish, very close to the Chambor Powder Matte range. The color has a neutral undertone and a gorgeous choice for any occasion. It is very close color to the reputable MAC Ruby Woo (not a dupe!). It doesn’t feel uncomfortable on lips or accentuates to fine lines as well. The color fades off leaving a reddish tint on the lips.
8. COLORBAR VELVET MATTE LIPSTICK, HOT HOT HOT – 325 INR (BUY HERE)
This is best budget friendly red you can have in your life. It is bright and bold true red with no undertones at all. It has a creamy-matte finish and elusive silver packaging. In fact, this is one of the hot selling Reds of the brands and you can also try out the Hearts and Tarts as well. The versatility of the color is that it is tailored for every complexion and very easy to pull off even though it is bright and audacious.
This is an all-time-favorite red with neutral undertones. In fact, I would go on call it a classic red as this is a sort of color a girl would love to wear endlessly. The texture is a winner with its powder matte finish and a single swipe or two of the color will give some gorgeous pout you have to waiting for. If there’s any no.2 red lipstick in my collection after Ruby Woo, it will be Rubis Rouge.
The color is a vibrant red with slightly blue undertones. However, the color is so stunning that will flatter no matter what skin tone or complexion you have. The magnificent semi-glossy texture with a promising wear time of 8hrs, the color is a stunner in its own way. It is extremely lightweight and doesn’t bleed at all. Hence, you does need a primer or lip liner underneath. It is rich and pigmented and has absolutely nothing to complain about.
Bonus 11: L’Oreal Paris Pure Red Lipstick in Freida’s Pure Rouge – INR 995 (BUY HERE for 746) (Review & Swatches HERE)
Again a beautiful, universally flattering red which will work on majority skin tones. It instantly brightens up your face while Aishwarya’s Pure Brick is more of a warm brick brown, Pure Rouge is the only shade from the entire Pure Reds Range that is a true, deep, pure red!
Editor’s Note: Wow, that was quite a list!! Loving every shade here. I only own Ruby Woo, Pure Rouge and Midnight Rose from the above :/ But absolutely love Ruby Woo and suggest each and everyone to own that shade! Revlon Really Red has been on my wishlist since years, always forget or it’s OOS. Few I would like to add to this list are L’Oreal Paris Infallible Lipsticks in Ravishing Red and Refined Ruby (Not Matte but long staying), Maybelline 14H SuperStay Lipstick in Non Stop Red (INR 575- BUY HERE for 460) and Diana of London 2000 Kisses Lipstick in Red Nature.
Which is your favourite red lipstick? Is it from this list?
It’s a red colored textured pouch going along the ‘Love’ theme.
The products in this month’s bag:
Just Herbs Coorgi Coffee Lip Smoothening Lip Salve (Full sized)- Rs.345/- for 8g
Hikari Cosmetics Blush- Sun Kissed (Full sized)- Rs.1000/- for 6g
Spa Ceylon White Jasmine Facial Masque (Full sized)- Rs.2150/- for 100g
Chamki Nail Polish in Firozi Blue (Full sized)- Rs.150/- for 11ml
Estee Lauder Perfect Clean Multi Action Lotion/Toner- (7ml)- Rs.4470/- for 200ml
I got the Spa Ceylon White Jasmine Facial Masque in the Dec bag and it was a month where you could select one product and I had selected this coz previously I had got the Cooling Foot Scrub in Oct and wanted to try this. Though I love this masque but I am still not done with the previous one and would have loved to try something else than the same product.
The Just Herbs Coorgi Coffee Lip balm is one of my favourites, it smells amazing (like filter coffee) and it free of chemicals, parabens and does not feel waxy. The most light weight lip balm I have ever used and I am glad I got another of my favourites.
Hikari Blush in Sun Kissed is a pretty milky brown shade, I thought it would shimmery and more like a bronzer coz of the name ‘Sun Kissed’ but it is almost matte with very subtle shimmer and it would a perfect contour shade for me. For girls who are fairer and lighter than me, this would make a nice everyday blush but I doubt this would show up on darker skin tones. It can also double up as an eye shadow and/or a transition shade for blending.
Estee Lauder Perfect Clean Multi Action Lotion/Toner is a deluxe sample and pretty good to try out for 6-7 days.
Chamki Nail Polish is again a full sized 11ml nail paint, the color is a nice, teal blue and very summery. I have never heard of this brand, looking forward to try this out.
Overall I would say I am quite happy with the full sized products and the brands in this month’s Fab Bag. The value of products are around Rs.3800-3900/- which is amazing for a bag worth Rs.600/- Definitely recommend getting this month’s Fab Bag.

MRP: Rs.799/- for 2.6g (You get a sharpener worth Rs.125/- free)
It comes in 2 formulations i.e. Matte & Starry Matte, Matte is your normal matte crayon & Starry Matte has some shimmer. Today I am reviewing the shades Sugar Coated in Starry Matte & Midnight Rose in Matte.
It has the same packaging as the eyeshadow crayons. The crayons are colored according to their shades and have a transparent cap, they need to be sharpened.
The packaging is convenient and nice, but would have been better if these would have been retractable coz you will need to carry a sharpener everywhere along.
The texture is super creamy, they glide on like butter and are very pigmented too. You just two swipes for complete, opaque coverage on lips.
These are not transfer proof and transfer a lot on cups, glasses, etc. Also they do not survive meals and fade off from the centre. They stay for around 4-5 hours if you do not eat or drink. They will need to be reapplied after a complete meal and will stay for 2-3 hours with drinking or light snacks.
I would have like a better staying power though and also it not getting transferred on everything every time.
The shade ‘Sugar Coated’ is a bright neon peach with some fine gold shimmer. It goes a little patchy on the lips and accentuates dry patches.
The shade ‘Midnight Rose’ is a beautiful burgundy red, it goes super smooth and looks amazing. This shade would work on all skin tones and is also the most loved shade in this range.
Overall, I would say I like the Matte range more than Starry Matte, I am not a fan of shimmer, not sure if it is only this particular shade which looks a little patchy or all Starry Matte ones. These are again manufactured by Schwan Stabilo and are priced almost the same as other lip crayons in the market. Only issue is transferring and staying power.
I would recommend checking out the Matte Lip Crayons, especially the shade Midnight Rose.
