Patanjali Coconut Oil Review & 6 Different Uses for Skin & Hair

By Sanchita

INTRODUCTION

There are some Patanjali products I swear by, like the Aloe Vera Gel, Divya Kantilep, Rose Water and this Coconut Oil. More than anything this has been a savior for me and I can’t stop praising it. I have been using this oil for the past one and half years and always keep two additional backups for this one. Here is my review on the same.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION – It’s made of pure coconuts & helps in the improvement of hair growth. Patanjali coconut oil is a double filtered coconut oil which is without any preservatives. Hence, good for cooking purpose as well.

PRICE – Rs. 65 for 200ml (BUY HERE)

MY REVIEW

The oil has changed the packaging over the years. Initially there was this flip open bottle and then they suddenly shifted to the tub packaging which was extremely convenient. Last month, when I went out to purchase some, I saw that the bottle packaging is back and I couldn’t be more glad. It has a white opaque flattened bottle with a flip open cap. The mouth of the cap dispenses right amount and also helps you to control the flow as well. The bottle is much easier to carry around as well as storage. Overall, the packaging is sturdy and great.

The oil is transparent in it and leans on slightly thicker side. This is a pure coconut oil with no amount of dilution. If you see the ingredients, you would find that there is no mineral oil whatsoever and this is why the oil works best for every purpose. The smell of coconut is pretty much evident but there is no artificial touch to it. There are various ways I have been using the oil for a long time and I will elaborate how beneficial it has been.

Use 1: For the hair

Long ago I used a hair color and somehow it backfired on my scalp and I started having terrible hairfall. Someone suggested me this oil and I used to apply it overnight and wash off the next day. I did this twice a week for a month and my hairfall problem is gone. Surprisingly, the dandruff issue is also gone. The hair feels soft, nourished and healthy. Since I have extremely dry hair, sometimes I make a concoction of almond, castor, olive and coconut oil for the hair. I keep it overnight and wash off the next morning. There have been times, I also mix this coconut oil in the homemade hair masks for nourishment.

Use 2: For face

I have oily acne prone skin so I can’t exactly use it for moisturizer but I used for removing my makeup. I haven’t not used any commercial makeup remover and simply slather the oil on the face and massage for 2-3mins. Then taking a wet wipe, I wipe off and it removes every layer of makeup. For the eyes also, it removes every layer of water proof mascara and kajal and will not irritate the eyes at all. As I have oily skin, I wash off everything with a face wash.

Use 3: For hands and feet

In winters, the hands and feet get very dry and I massage the oil for 5-10mins and hit the bed. It nourishes my hands and feet overnight and I wake up with no dry layers. For other time, I simply wipe off the excess oil with a dry tissue.

Use 4: For body

The oil works like a charm to heal dry skin and stretch marks. I use this in winter for my body and it has removed my stretch marks. However, I must say that it takes a long time and patience. It took 9-10 months to remove the stretch marks on my thighs and hips.

Use 5: For eyes

I have hereditary dark circles and also dry under eyes. Most of the eye creams doesn’t suit me and I use little coconut oil on a cotton bud and apply around the eyes before sleeping. Thus, it never makes the eye dry and wrinkled.

Use 6: For nails

The nails are often under nourished due to the use of constant acetone based nail remover. I use the coconut oil as the cuticle oil and it never feels dry and under-nourished.

WHAT I LIKED

1. Opaque and sturdy packaging

2. Pure coconut oil

3. No mineral oil added

4. Has variety of uses for face, eyes, body, nails and hair

5. Reduces hairfall.

6. Hydrating

7. Easily available

8. Extremely affordable

WHAT I DISLIKED

Nothing

RATING – 5/5

OVERALL- Thus, the Patanjali Coconut Oil has various uses and the oil is truly a magic elixir for me. Most importantly, it is extremely affordable, easily available and in pure form. I would highly recommend this oil over any other hair oil for nourishment.

Editor’s Note: I will surely give this a try Sanchita, nice review

MRP: Rs.84/- for 180ml (150ml + 20% extra free)

Benefits of Dabur Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair Oil:

  • It helps in deep conditioning your scalp
  • Amla promotes hair growth
  • Coconut is very nourishing and hydrates and nourishes even the hair follicles
  • Amla helps prevent hair greying
  • Lemon is very good to keep dandruff at bay
  • Coconut oil being rich and hydrating, also helps get rid of split ends
  • Coconut helps retain moisture in the hair & also works on repairing damaged hair
  • Coconut oil is a natural detangler for hair
  • Henna also helps retain hair colour and keep it rich and dark

And there are numerous other benefits of Coconut alone, much more of Henna, Amla and Lemon infused together. In monsoons, if I get wet in the rains, the first thing that gets affected is my hair. If I do not immediately oil my hair and wash them, the texture changes and I even face dandruff issues coz of the rain water. In winters, dandruff is the main issue always. I am glad the Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair oil has lemon which is what I mostly use for my dandruff, this is helping me keep dandruff at bay.

How I use it: I either keep oil in my hair overnight or do use it an hour before shampooing, and it makes a huge difference. Whenever I have oiled my hair before shampooing, the hair is super smooth and more softer with less frizz than just alone shampooing. Overnight oiling is more beneficial, but if forgot or do not like the oil on your hair overnight, at least try and use it an hour before shampooing.

It takes an extra wash to remove the oil, but then it’s so worth it. Fortunately, Dabur Vatika Enriched Coconut Oil is not that sticky and very light in texture, it would not make your look like an oil slick or give you that sticky feeling when you touch your hair.

I would say it is one stop for all your hair problems from hair breakage, split ends, greying , dandruff, etc. Use this twice a week on a continuous basis and you will definitely see a lot of improvement in your hair.

It is very economical price wise too, plus I got 20% extra 😀 I love the light smell too, it is not over powering or bothering.

Hair Concerns, Causes & Cures

Hair Concerns, Causes & Cures

Hi guys,

Today I am talking about the hair concerns/problems most of us face. From dryness, greying, hair fall, split ends to dandruff, itchiness, oily scalp, etc. there are so many different hair issues one faces at every different point of time.

If you have dry scalp and hair, it is mostly itchy, flaky scalp, dandruff and frizz that one faces usually. If you have oily scalp and hair, then hair looks weighed down, greasy and dull. Greying of hair, dandruff and hair fall is like very common for all hair types, those are some common hair problems.

This is my natural hair which is curled..no extensions

I have talked about hair fall and how to grow long, healthy hair before HERE and HERE.

Chemical treatments like coloring and straightening/rebonding are the main culprits when it comes to dry or damaged hair. Coloring especially using a light color/bleaching rips off the moisture from your hair strands and makes it very thin. When you compare it to your natural hair, the colored strands are half in thickness and look dry, dull and frizzy. Rebonding is again chemically changing your hair structure while leads to terrible hair fall! Avoid chemical treatments and coloring as much as you can.

Straight Hair

Heat styling is again something that causes hair to become dry and frizzy, you should avoid using heat especially if you have dry hair. Keep it occasional and if you cannot avoid it, then use a very good heat protectant before heat styling.

A good healthy diet and proper sleep can change the way your skin and hair looks and feels completely. Hair needs iron, zinc, protein, etc. and if it is not getting those nutrients from the diet, it will start falling as they won’t be strong enough and not grow at a rate they should. Proper sleep can help reduce your stress and also some amount of exercise/yoga helps manage stress and keep it in check.

Pollution and sun exposure are other culprits which damage your hair. Always carry a scarf/umbrella to protect your hair. Tie and cover your hair when you are swimming or working out, so as to protect it from chlorine or sweat respectively.

Dry hair which does not get enough nutrients also leads to split ends since the ends of the hair are not getting nourishment. And heat styling ,etc further dries out the ends.

Apart from a proper diet and managing your stress, you need to avoid coloring/chemical treatments/heat styling, etc. and nourish your hair with the right products.

Hair oils/serums/heat protectants, etc. are here to help your hair and keep them hydrated and nourished. Oil your hair twice a week and shampoo 2-3 times a week to keep dirt and dandruff at bay.

Oiling helps you in many ways as it is something that goes within your scalp and nourish your hair from the roots. Hair oils are the only hair care product that actually work from within and go onto the scalp. Don’t worry about using excess oil as the scalp will absorb only as much as is needed. I am currently using the Dabur Vatika Enriched Coconut Hair Oil once/twice a week. Even if I forget to oil it overnight, I use it at least one hour before shampooing. Whenever I oil my hair, the hair is smoother, shinier and tangle free post shampooing, even without a conditioner.

Also, deep conditioning helps me keep dandruff and split ends at bay. For dandruff, the best thing is not let your scalp dry and if you are suffering from too much dandruff which just doesn’t leave you, try a few home remedies. For me, soaking methi/fenugreek seeds overnight in water and blending them with curd and applying half an hour before washing my hair works. Also lemon juice works at some times.

So these were some of the hair concerns, causes of it and how to avoid/cure them.

What do you think of hair problems? How do you manage them?

The Goodness of Coconut for the Skin

The goodness of Coconut for the Skin

Coconut..a ‘wonder’ nut indeed..which gives us coconut water, coconut milk, coconut oil, everything so useful for us in so many ways..it benefits our body, skin, hair..

Coconut milk is one of the oldest and most trusted ways of moisturizing the skin. Extracted from the grated meat of a coconut, the milk is known to work wonders — repairing damaged skin, bringing back the lost color and texture. Coconut Milk also has natural anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.

Coconut oil is used in most products due to its chemical structure. It is readily absorbed by the skin..and it acts as a savior for dry skin..more so in winters..coconut oil is full of wonders and is beneficial for you from head to toe. For skin, it is a moisturizer, antibiotic, multivitamin, multi-nutrient, nourishing, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, and anti-oxidant – All in one! Pure virgin coconut oil also helps in cleansing your pores. It melts the removes the dirt and makeup..and acts as a very good cleanser cum makeup remover. It acts as a great massage oil. It is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles and sagging of skin which normally becomes prominent with age. Regular massage also helps with stretch marks.

Coming to coconut water. Second, to water, coconut water is the purest liquid that you can drink. It hydrates the skin and body, helps in weight loss, and treats acne too. If you have blackheads and other types of acne then you can also use coconut water as a mask. If you don’t have time to let the coconut water rest on your face then you can simply wash your face with it. It improves the pH balance of skin and skin elasticity.

So overall how coconut benefits our skin..whether, in the form of oil, milk or water is :

  • Excellent moisturizer
  • Antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral
  • Delays wrinkles and sagging of skin
  • Great Massage oil
  • Cleanses pores and makeup

Tip: Supermodel Miranda Kerr is a big fan of coconut oil, and adds it to her salads and in her green tea. She sees the effects by way of shiny hair and breakout-free skin.
