Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor: Cannes 2014

Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor: Cannes 2014

Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor: Cannes 2014

First of all guys, this is my 1500th post! I still can’t believe my 1500th post is about Sonam or Ash, coz I don’t like either :/ But yay anyhoo 😀

Coming to the post, a lot has been said about Sonam and Aishwarya already! I would just like to give my 2 cents on it..

Aishwarya Rai was a stunner at Cannes 2014! She stole the show completely..a total veteran! Though by far, this has been her best Cannes 2014 appearance from years and years..this is my favorite year of hers..

On the 1st day (extreme right), she chose a golden corset shaped mermaid like Roberto Cavalli gown..with oh so perfect makeup and hair! Soft wavy loose hair and L’Oreal Paris Moist Mat Lipstick in Lincoln Rose with falsies and oodles of L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara does the trick here.

Though the gown was copied from Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth who wore it to the recent Academy Awards..but nonetheless full credits to Ash to look stunning in it!

On the 2nd day (center), she again chose a Roberto Cavalli..this time a silver and went for smokey eyes and nude lips..nothing too fancy here..though the gown is good..but repetitive after the 1st day.

3rd day (extreme left) Ash went for this beige gold Armani Prive gown..bright teal eyes and red lips. Ok, why is that push up bra clashing with the plunging neckline..we do not want to know how perky your assets are at this age..we know its a push up bra, Dear Ash..spare us. Though the gown is nice and could have been worn in a better way..the bust area looks off..red lips work with this gown but why the bright teal eyes!

So,overall only the 1st look was a bomb and killer..and the most remembered look for years to come..one of Aishwarya Rai’s best in her career..she looked super confident too. And the L’Oreal Moist Mat in Lincoln Rose has been selling off like hot cakes coz of her!!

Coming to our very own ‘self-proclaimed style icon’ Sonam Kapoor.

Sonam Kapoor has showcased 3 very different red carpet looks this year. An Anamika Khanna traditional Sari and 2 Elie Saab Couture gowns..the black was fantabulous! So princessy and grecian..I had no words..rest two outfits were pretty ok..nothing to wow us. I love her Chopard jewellery! Stunning pieces..can make any girl go weak in the knees.

Makeup wise Sonam Kapoor made sensible choices on all the days..all thanks to Namrata Soni. I loved the nude lip with L’Oreal Moist Mat Lipstick in Maple Mocha.

Whom did you like the most or rather which look did you like the most ? I loved the 1st day look for both the girls..

Who Wore What- IIFA Awards 2014 and the Green Carpet

So after the press conference, promotions and pre- events which I covered HERE, lets move on to the main awards IIFA 2014.

My hits and misses..

1. Jahnvi Kapoor in D & G

Jahnvi chose a Dolce & Gabbana full skirted dress and strappy sandals..with a soft, messy updo. Cute, I did say.

2. Parineeti Chopra in Nikhil Thampi

Pari chose this one shoulder peach Nikhil Thampi gown..the color is good..but is it not a little too simple ? I did not like the Rahul Mishra one sheer skirt though..did not flatter her figure..this is atleast better.

3. Kalki in Gaurav Gupta

Kalki in a grey Gaurav Gupta gown with silver detailing all over. No, a little too much..plus the color is too dull on her.

4. Yami Gautam in Gauri and Nainika

Yami in this monochrome Gauri Nainika gown..though it screams high school..but she always looks cute !

5. Dia Mirza in Sabyasachi

Dia looked amazing in this pink and gold ombre Sabyasachi embellished gown with Amrapali jewellery..that dress is stunning !

6. Gauahar Khan in Ken Ferns

Gauahar in a red Ken Ferns gown..is it Christmas already ?! Did not like the silhouette too.

7. Kareena Kapoor in Armani

Kareena chose this black sheer panel Armani dress..a little too bold..but she pulled it off quiet well !

8. Sridevi in Oscar De La Renta

Sridevi chose this black shimmery Oscar De La Renta gown..perfect makeup, hair updo and studs..she looks ravishing !

9. Priyanka Chopra in Monique Lhuillier

PC chose this embellished nude Monique Lhuillier gown..smokey eyes and an elegant updo..she looked great.

10. Sonakshi Sinha in Amit Aggarwal

Shimmery Navy Blue Amit Aggarwal gown, Bottega Veneta clutch, soft wavy hair..Sonakshi looked quiet good.

11. Deepika Padukone in Zuhair Murad

Dippy chose a Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad red lace gown..I liked the gown..but the berry lip :/ Does not work with this at all.

12. Dia Mirza in Halston Heritage

Beautiful peachy orange pleated Halston Heritage gown, Jimmy Choo clutch and an Amrapali multi chained layered necklace..Dia looks stunning here !

12. Madhuri Dixit in Sonaakshi Raaj

Again a Sonaakshi Raaj after Bipasha in white..this time Madhuri chose a different color..and I am glad..coz that color looks amazing on her..loved it. (Both these Sonaakshi Raaj outfits are from the recent Lakme Fashion Week S/R 2014..and I had attended this show)

13. Swara Bhaskar in BCBG

Swara chose this coral BCBG illusion panel dress..I like how the illusion panel works on her..nice..

14. Kareena in Armani

Kareena chose a Giorgio Armani again..separates here..a beaded white top and velvet paneled skirt..bright orange lips completed the look.

Also there were many blacks ! Madhuri chose a black Jatin Varma and Malaika a Shivan Narresh, Bipasha a Rocky S..too many black gowns seen !

I loved Sridevi, Madhuri, Kareena, Dia and Priyanka !

So, whats your pick ? Whose outfit did you like the most ?

P.S : I do not own any images.

Manish Malhotra at LFW Winter/Festive 2013

Manish Malhotra at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013

MANISH MALHOTRA THE “FASHION BADSHAH OF BOLLYWOOD COUTURE” OPENED THE LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2013 SEASON WITH A SENSATIONAL FESTIVE COLLECTION OF BREATHTAKING BEAUTY

Manish Malhotra the “Fashion Badshah of Bollywood Couture” opened the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 season with a spectacular festive/pre-bridal collection, which was a feast for the eyes.

Dozens of white and orange lanterns hung from the ceiling, which lit up when the show began. To add drama to the setting, pairs of models walked down the ramp separated by a white curtain of fabric strands. It was a time to celebrate with lights, cameras and action.

Highlighting the festivities of India, Manish’s collection called “Reflections” was a stunning offering, which had gorgeous synergy with Indian traditions, cultures, rituals and vibrant colour spectrum for the fusion line.

The fabulous hues of Rajasthan and Kutch came alive on the runway as models swirled around wearing creations in rainbow tones of deep green, dark beige, tan, burgundy, shocking pink, red, navy, and mustard dappled with mirror work and interesting colour blocking.

Using regal textured silks embellished with thread and exclusively created zari work from Kashmir; the collection was an intense melangé of youthful vigour and timeless touches. Experimenting with silhouettes, Manish showcased the stylish ghagra-pant – a fusion of the Sharara and classic pant, which will give some strong alternatives to lehengas. Another interesting innovation was the Koti (bolero) top reinvented from the Rajasthan Koti, which can be teamed with saris or ghagras.

The fabric selection by Manish was varied with tulle, chiffon, georgette, pure/raw silk, velvet, textured fabrics mixed and matched or contrasted perfectly, to create a great fashion statement.
Opening the show a pair of sheer kurtas with mirror work on the sleeves teamed with the flared ghagra/pants, Manish revealed his control over the embellishments, which were restricted to intelligent placements. Glitter and resham work along with hints of zari created a melodious symphony of fashion. Necklines were very sexy and seductive as they plunged in the front into daring “V” or at the back, often tied with tantalizing tassels.

Appliqué was brought in tonal colours for sleeves, while the luxurious layered flared ghagra-pants had comfortable side pockets. Asymmetric covers, diagonal colour blocking for kurtas with contrast edged side slits, tulle lehenga-saris with velvet cholis, shocking pink embroidered flared pants with silk shirts or velvet blouses and the final heavily embellished Raja coats over black flared pants created a breathtaking impact on the ramp.

Men’s wear was elegant in style with colour blocking playing a major role for two-tone kurtas, some with stripes as detailing on cuffs and down the front but teamed with wide salwars, dhotis or dhoti pants. Sherwanis appeared with narrow trousers, while bundies in varied colour contrasts over kurtas were masculine in style and finish. Velvet detailing appeared at times on hemlines, yokes, shoulders and cuffs to add a touch of excitement to the predominantly ethnic line.

When it comes to a collection which offers numerous alternatives to the adventurous bride and groom who long for that unconventional look during the wedding festivities; it will have to be “Reflections” from Manish Malhotra that will make them the cynosure of all eyes.

T-Shirts, Jeans : Wildfox, J Brand, Hudson

T-Shirts, Jeans : Wildfox, J Brand, Hudson

Influenced by rock ‘n’ roll and Native American art work, Wildfox designs are creative and fun, with the capacity to dress down any other item of clothing for that sought after ‘easy casual’ look. The t-shirts for this season are less baggy and more weighted than last year, with the length of the shirt pulling the fabric into an almost waterfall effect, covering any bumps or lumps but still feeling light and airy. Colours such as light-blue and different variations of white and cream are all popular choices. Especially their motif t-shirts, such as the Young & In Love T-Shirt, with a pair of J Brand’s coloured super-skinny jeans would faultlessly bring out the brilliance of the white.

It is difficult to go wrong with J Brand, especially as they now have such a diverse collection and celebrities all over are wearing their jeans. In the last week alone, Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes and Kate Middleton have all been spotted in variously styled jeans from the designers. Their skinny jeans are available in many colours, such as Nude and Tangerine. And alongside their neon range, their skinny leggings are set to become more popular now that Vogue and Donna Ida have dubbed them as the must haves for this season. Also flares are once again appearing here and there with J Brand promoting their revival. Leather Leggings have remained just as popular as when they were first introduced.

New from Hudson are Tilda Cropped Jeans with an on-trend tie dye effect and releasable cuff. Available in Lucy in the Sky and Love Parade, this slim fitting cut will no doubt receive numerous respectable reviews from fashion lovers. Although it is likely that conflicting patterns will still be in fashion this summer, the bold blue and red available are not too patterned to clash with one of Wildfox’s t-shirts and it is easy to imagine that each item would complement the other suitably. Of course, there are many other Hudson jeans to choose from, with cuts including all the classics (bootcut, flare and straight) alongside a range of pastel coloured skinny jeans.

Bringing a contemporary stamp to the look, the luscious fabrics were combined with clean silhouettes such as cigarette pants, jackets, dresses and blouses, making them wearable wherever one travels. The collection’s colour palette exudes royalty as it includes shades like emerald greens, reds and royal blues combined with the classic browns and blacks, perfect for the Indian women looking for a balance between their love for western wear and their ethnic sensibilities.

The runway collection promises to take you through a whimsical journey of design aesthetics, inspired by modern art and gothic references. Vizyon is the first fashion house to bring together international designs and styles to the Indian clientele. Shradha Murarka, Creative Director of Vizyon envisioned the ethos of the brand to create a distinctive style code with must-have cuts and timeless pieces.

In keeping with the theme of the day at Lakme Fashion Week, Vizyon line boasts of avant-garde silhouettes that play ingeniously with sober tones, such as earthy browns, porcelain, mid-night blues, precious blacks, turquoises and absinth greens, complementing the theme of the collection. The real highlights are the subtle references ranging from the geometry inspired by modern abstract paintings and avant-garde architecture masterpieces to the rhythms of the human anatomy. This line also includes allusions to insects through cobbled web structures, beetle shell embroideries and butterfly wing colors. The collection retains its glamour quotient as the dark references are combined with a blend of hide and seek cuts and soft feminine materials.

High on comfort and style code, “ENGLITENED SHADOWS” is a sensual line of cocktail wear, structured short dresses, jersey trunks, smart jackets, skirts and sophisticated red carpet gowns. Luscious fabrics such as porcelain and brown matt caddy and black lamé have been used with touches of draped georgette and shiny metal like taffeta in shades of turquoise and green. Vizyon has created a line of its leather shoes in dark blue and black.

As Shradha Murarka, Creative director of Vizyon, explains, “The outfits combine intricate details and innovative shapes with bold constructions and multi colored textured panels, never drifting away from our brand’s signature style. This year’s collection promises to create a statement, perfect for midnight beauties with new urban sensibilities.”
