In 2011, Nitin took charge of INDOLA as the technical head, and has played a key role in increasing the footprint of the brand across the country.

I interviewed Nitin..and asked him some major concerns Indian women face, how to tackle them and some easy DIY hairstyles and how to do them..

1) Major issue of women in India is hair fall…how do you suggest tackling that?

There are lots of reasons for hairfall, and one of them is stressful lifestyle.Other reasons to it would be nutritional deficiency, dandruff, excessive oiliness of the scalp, illness, thyroid imbalance, etc

Take proper care for your hair, use appropriate shampoo and conditioner. Once in a month go for Hair spa treatment. Make sure you get adequate sleep.Consult a hairdresser or doctor if your hair loss is increasing even after you take proper care of your hair.

2) Dandruff is a bane in winters..How to fight against it?

With winter setting in, the skin tends to dry out and dandruff is aggravated. Simple dandruff is harmless and disappears on its own within 15-20 days. However, if you have persistent dandruff and experience an increase in hair fall for a period of two to three months, then the problem is a little more serious.

It seems to thrive in oily hair, so regular shampooing can help you fight it off.  Massage your hair so that you can clean your skin as well as your hair. Again for the second time you can wash, rinse and repeat because first wash removes the oil layer and second wash helps removing the dandruff.

Maintain a healthy and a balanced diet.

3) Some quick easy DIY hairstyles..

Braids: it has become a huge trend of modern times. Youngsters and woman are sporting this look for parties, weddings, etc. Well, it can be counted as a simple hairstyle that works for all occasions. But when a braid is worn in a variation looks amazing. Different kinds of plaits ( like Fish tail plait, Rope Plait etc.) can be worn. These plaits can also be used to create and enhance updos.

Curly Hair: Curl your hair using a diffuser and then it can be left loose or pinned to create a sexy look. A gorgeous look for a romantic weekend getaway or an evening out with that special someone.  These curls are very soft.

Steps for romantic curls:

• Dry hair using the Diffuser attachment on your blow dryer.
• Take a small barrel curling iron and wind horizontal sections of hair.
• Spray hair all over with a flexible styling spray.

Ruffled  messy buns: they can be easily done at home. Following are the steps for the same.
Snip the toe tip of your tube sock and roll it up until it forms a mini donut.
Using your fingers, comb your hair up into a high ponytail and secure with a hair tie. You decide how high you want it, but I would not suggest a sky-high one if you are going for a more casual look. (For a sleeker ponytail, feel free to use a brush.)
Take the ends of your ponytail and pull it through the donut. Spread out the very ends of your hair around the donut so that it is slightly covered. Tuck those ends under the donut.
Roll donut with the tucked ends down the rest of your ponytail until you reach your head. There will be some fly-away pieces and some that fell out of the donut while rolling. Leave those alone. They add to the tousled, messy look.
Ruffle the bun with your fingers to loosen it and pull a few random strands out to make it even more tousled. Now, you’re done!

French knot: If you want a clean hairstyle, then you should always go for French knot.
Comb your hair thoroughly so that they become smoother and easier to manage. Neatly separate a section of hair from the central region of the top of your head.
Again, comb your hair entirely, including the separately held section and hold them together as you do while making a pony.
Hold the base of the pony and twist the pony so that it covers your left hand fingers.
Now remove your left hand from the center of the twisted pony keeping it tight and fix it at the top using bobby pins on all its sides so that it forms a bun. Similarly fix the tail. Settle the extra hair which may come out of the bun.
Tighten the bun as much as possible. Use a hair spray for a shiny look.

4) Which hairstyles look good on Indian face structures? For medium long hair..For curly and straight hair each…

1. Curly Hair- As most indian women have wavy to curly long hair, so to enhance the natural texture of the hair, an appropriate layering or graduation technique can be used depending on the face shapes (e.g  forward graduation, pie layering, square layer etc). a side fringe can be crafted to highlight the whole look. )

2. Straight Hair – If you have straight long hair, keep it smooth, shiny, one length and have a straight solid fringe as such fringes a very much in Vogue.

Thanks for the answers Nitin..quite a help..

I hope you all found it helpful too..

Interview with Marcus Francis – Global TRESemmé Stylist

Interview with Marcus Francis – Global TRESemmé Stylist

TRESemmé’s Global Stylist, Marcus Francis was in India recently and was available for email interviews.

Marcus decoded a few hairstyles from Mercedes Benz Fashion week and elaborated on trends this season, his association with TRESemmé and much more. See the hairstyles HERE.

About Marcus Francis :

From the shows at Paris Fashion Week to a celebrity photo shoot in Los Angeles, Marcus Francis is showing his wide range of creating beautiful hair across the world.

Moving to Los Angeles in 1999 from Seattle, Washington, Marcus soon discovered that his innate talent for hair styling was more than just a hobby; it was his passion that would allow him to combine his love for Hollywood, fashion, and travel. When he finished his education in cosmetology, Marcus pursued both cut and color at various salons, the last five years at Jonathan Salon in West Hollywood. His appeal and talent crossed over to the fashionistas in New York City where Marcus worked at Robert Kree Salon. He soon joined forces with Vogue and W to style for events with designers such as Versace, Bally, and Ports 1961.  While juggling a career in Los Angeles and New York, Marcus expanded into television. He was cast as a style expert on the television show “Style Her Famous” on the Style Network. Marcus also started the AOL makeover show “Hairapy”, which lead him to commercial work for TRESemmé India and style Diana Penty.

After 2 years of being bicoastal, freelance hair styling became a part of the next phase in Marcus’ career by assisting on photo shoots and fashion shows for legends Guido, Danilo, Sam McKnight, and Orlando Pita. Marcus became a part of the shows at Fashion Week in New York, Milan, and Paris for designers Prada, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Balenciaga, and many more. Marcus’ work also captured the cover of fashion’s WWD magazine in February ’09 during NY Fashion Week. Marcus has styled the tresses of such celebrities as Salma Hayek, Natalie Portman, Kirsten Dunst, Kerry Washington, and Marisa Tomei to name a few for events like the Cannes Film Festival and Academy Awards. He has also worked in film doing hair for screen legend Lauren Bacall, shot with famed photographers such as Mark Seliger and Norman Jean Roy, and his work was featured for magazines such as Vogue, Interview etc.

So I asked him these basic questions..

1.Hairstyles that are ‘IN’ globally?
Ans: Braids and buns are the two hairstyles that are in today. You can wear them in different styles, accessorize them and style them as per your requirement. A bohemian braid can do wonders and looks chic and feminine or a side swept bun also adds glamour.

2.What hairstyles would you recommend off the ramp for daily wear? And how to do them?
Ans: A chic side bun incorporated in your daily style looks great. You can wear it at work or accessorize them with embellished bobby pins for a party, this braid will work wonders. Steps to achieve a chic bun:

1)Part your hair to one side – your part should start directly above the middle of the eyebrow on whichever side you choose to part it.

2)Pull all your hair around behind your head over to the same side that you parted it on – pin it in place at the back of the head to keep it to that side.

3)Using a fine-tooth comb, back comb the hair to give it body – you can go a bit nuts here and don’t worry about how messy it gets.

4)Using a brush, brush the surface of the hair lightly to smooth it down – don’t brush to hard and remove all the teasing you have just done. Re-pin the hair to the side.

3.Which TRESemme products are your favorites and Why ?
Ans: My favorite TRESemmé product is the Climate control shampoo and conditioner as it leaves your hair moisturized and nourished.

4.Some easy DIY 2 minute hairstyles explained.

Summer side swept pony

1)Part your hair to one side – your part should start directly above the middle of the eyebrow on whichever side you choose to part it.
2)Pull all your hair around behind your head over to the same side that you parted it on and tie it around with an elastic
3)Tie part of your pony with bobby pins inside and let loose the remaining part of the pony.
4)You can embellish the pony with flowers to make it look chic.

Natural Waves

1)Wash and condition your hair well with TRESemmé Smooth and Shine shampoo and conditioner.
2)Blow dry your hair to form natural waves.
3)Let them loose by applying little serum to give the shine.

So were the questions helpful ? Are you going to try these hairstyles ?

P.S: I know he is hot, if you are thinking the same 😀

Hairstyles for Wet Hair

Hairstyles for Wet Hair

Don’t like it wet?

Styling your tresses before work in the monsoon can be quite a tricky deal. You take hours to get
the perfect look and step out to see all your efforts wash away. Don’t let the rains ruin your plans
for stylish locks each day. As the saying goes “When life throws lemons at you, remember to make
lemonade,” our mantra in monsoon should be similar…instead of cursing the rain, head back to the
washroom and try these hairstyles for wet hair:

Fringe braids

Make a side parting to your wet hair and braid the larger section of hair, framing your face. Follow the
same method of braiding as you would for a French braid. You could either leave the rest of your hair
open, or make a ponytail with this section and secure your braid around it.

Twist it up

Make a side parting to your wet hair and gather 2 inches of hair of the larger section, all along the frame of your face. Twist this section tightly throughout its length and tie it up with the rest of your hair into a side ponytail (position it towards the larger section) and wrap the twisted section around it. Use bobby pins to keep it in place.

Embellished buns

A low bun is the easiest way to style wet hair. However, to make it look more interesting, keep
accessories like stylish bobby pins handy to give your bun a more contemporary look. While styling
wet hair, remember to be gentle, since it is most susceptible to breakage.

Treat your damaged hair to some extra care with TRESemmé Climate Control Shampoo and
Conditioner.

5 Trendy Hairstyles for Monsoon

5 Trendy Hairstyles for Monsoon
If humidity has left your hair frizzy and un-manageable, it’s time to change the way you address your hair care needs and find looks that work best for you. TRESemmé puts together a catalogue of the right hair styles and products that will make your hair ‘season proof’.Two simple yet ubér chic styles for this monsoon are the ponytail and the hair bun. The possibilities are endless with these two easy hairstyles and they are just as effective at the gym as they are on a dinner date.

Pony ‘tails’

A ponytail is a brilliant option for monsoon. It keeps the frizz under control and makes it more
manageable to redo if you get drenched when you step out. This simple hairstyle has been given a
new definition and has been experimented by many celebs on the red carpet.

Try a sleek, immaculate ponytail placed high on your head or pull it down to one side. No matter which look you choose, remember to keep the frizz in control with a little help from TRESemmé.Wash your hair with TRESemmé Climate Control. Shampoo and Conditioner to tame the fly aways. You can also curl your hair before pulling it into a ponytail.

Accessorize with a colorful floral headband or tie a bright colored scarf to your ponytail.
Pull out some strands of hair over your face for a more stylish effect.
This keeps the hair in place and still keeps you looking ready to hit the streets anytime you want

Trending Buns

One hairstyle that never goes out of vogue is the Bun – it is classic and timeless. This hairstyle is truly versatile as you can personalize it depending on the occasion and your attire. Moreover, not only does this hairstyle ooze oodles of feminine grace and charm but you can also glam it up in various ways.
Lightly brush your hair and gather all of your hair on one side, behind the ear.
Take a bungee band and form a pony tail. Hide the bungee band by covering it with a piece of hair.
One by one take the pieces of hair from the pony tail
Turn the pieces round and pin them up with bobby pins around the pony tail.
Take each piece one at a time a follow the similar procedure.
Don’t forget to wash your hair with TRESemmé Climate Control Shampoo and Conditioner to tame the fly aways before starting the bun
Stock up all your hair on top of your head in a ballerina bun, also known as a top knot bun. Another good option is a messy bun. If you are late for office or work, tie up your hair loosely in a messy bun. Looks stylish and is a quick to do hairstyle too.

Doughnut Bun

Get the wet and sassy look with a sleek doughnut bun this season.
To attain the look, de-tangle your wet hair with the TRESemmé Climate Control Conditioner.
Tie a high ponytail using a thick elastic hair band.
Cover the band completely by spreading the ponytail, which now resembles a doughnut.
Secure it using a small elastic hair band. Tuck in the excess hair around the bun using bobby pins. You are ready to face the downpour with panache!

Three rides on a pony

To strengthen hair before styling, massage your scalp with TRESemmé Climate Control Shampoo.
To begin with the section ponytail, pull your hair from the forehead, using the top layer of your hair and make a half ponytail.
Take the second layer of your hair and make a second ponytail.
Grab the remaining hair and tie the third pony near your nape.
Open up the hair a bit that connects two ponies to give it a messy touch.

Twisty style

To start with, wash your hair using TRESemmé Climate Control Shampoo, to add the extra sheen the hairstyle demands.
Now grab small sections of your hair and twist them in the form of snakes and tuck in place using bobby pins. Tie the larger section of your hair into a bun at the center of your head.
Voila, you’re all set to flaunt the wet look with élan.
