What is Multi Masking? New The Body Shop Facial Masks Review

Hey guys,

I have been using the new Body Shop Facial Masks since a few days and here are my thoughts..

First of all, let me tell you a little about multi masking, coz that is how I am using them and loving it. Multi masking is basically using a face mask according to your concern on that particular area on the face. It’s a blessing for people like me who have combination skin coz my T zone is oily and rest of the face is dry/normal. So the clay based masks used overall on the entire face leave my cheeks over dry and craving for moisture.

So I use the clay based masks on my T zone and the more hydrating/nourishing ones on my cheeks and rest of the face.

I have British Rose, Chinese Ginseng & Ricee and Himalayan Charcoal, so would be talking about these three.

Starting with British Rose,

ClaimsFor skin that needs to be quenched and re-plumped with moisture to reveal its dewy glow again. Inspired by the European bathing rituals, our refreshing hydrating face mask is infused with real rose petals, rose essence, rosehip oil and aloe vera. Giving you visibly smoother-looking skin plumped with moisture.

Ingredients:

Himalayan Charcoal

Claims: For skin that needs purification to help reveal a healthy, youthful looking glow. Inspired by traditional beauty remedies, our tingling mud mask contains bamboo charcoal, exfoliating Green Tea leaves & tea tree oil. Purify your skin and give it a new lease of life with our charcoal face mask.

Ingredients:

Chinese Ginseng & Rice

Claims: Inspired by Chinese traditions, our creamy exfoliating mask combines ginseng, rice extract and sesame seed oil and reveals brighter-looking, more even, supple skin.

Ingredients:

As you can see the names in front of each masks, each mask is a recipe from that particular region/tradition and the ingredients as always are also sourced from there organically.

I love the fact that all these masks are paraben, mineral oil and paraffin free.

They come in a sleek glass jar packaging, the jar is quite heavy and they are not very travel friendly. But it is quite thick and won’t break.

The Body Shop also has a wooden handle face mask brush and a hand towel/head band set which you can use for/while applying the masks.

Each of the mask smells really good, you actually feel like you are in a spa getting a nice facial done. The directions say keep the mask on for 5-10 minutes, I keep all for about 10 minutes and the Himalayan Charcoal one untill it dries completely.

The British Rose mask is in a clear gel form with crushed real roses in it. It smells exactly like the British Rose Range they have and is very hydrating and plumping. I love using it on my cheeks, jaw line and neck. The rosehip oil and aloe vera moisturise and hydrate the skin well.

Himalayan Charcoal mask is ash gray in color coz of the bamboo charcoal. It is clay based and thick, I would advise not leaving the jar open and taking the required product and applying it immediately, as it dries super fast. I love using it on my nose and the surrounding areas both side where I have open pores. Since it has tea tree oil and green tea extracts too, it won’t strip off the skin of moisture and also help against acne as tea tree oil is anti bacterial. It tingles as mentioned in the description and as you scrub off the mask, it does leave the skin a little red for some time. But regular use of this would help keep blackheads at bay as it also exfoliates the skin while taking the mask off. I really like this one!

Coming to the Chinese Ginseng & Rice one, it is a white colored thick, grainy paste. You can feel the crushed rice in it, it also mildly exfoliates the skin. Sesame oil moisturises while the Ginseng brightens and evens out the skin. I use it on my forehead and around my mouth where I have some uneven tone. It does brighten the skin a bit, but you have to use it regularly to see difference. You won’t notice it in one go. I love this one too.

Multi Masking

Overall, I am very happy with these and they are pretty good! I wish it was priced a little lower though. I highly recommend trying out 1 at least. If you have oily skin, Himalayan Charcoal one is a must have and for normal/dry skin, Chinese Ginseng & Rice. If you have very dry skin, British Rose is good for you. So select a mask according to your skin type and go with that. They also have sachet samples of each mask online and at all The Body Shop stores. Ask for samples and test them out, before investing in the mask 🙂

Fenugreek (Methi) for All your Skin Issues

Fenugreek (Methi) for All your Skin Issues

By Nidhal

Mortified of those pesky pimples making a peek-a- boo every time you have to get ready and paint the town red or when you have an indispensable event and you just can’t miss it? Exhausted with trying every over-the –counter trick or product on those acne scars of yours that have sworn never to leave your skin? Dissatisfied with every spot/blemish removal cream in the market which promises you flawless skin within minutes but ends up burning a hole in your pocket in a minute instead of doing what it actually promised to?

To tackle all these woes, let us simply turn back to Nature. The wonder ingredient that we would be relying upon today to preen ourselves is none other than the 5 lettered word whose benefits would surpass your imagination- METHI.

1. METHI POWDER, CURD & ROSE WATER MASK

Apart from reducing cholesterol, preventing diabetes and increasing breast milk, fenugreek aka Methi seeds and leaves are widely used in Indian households. Curd works well to remove dryness, tan and dullness off your skin. Rose water works wonders as a toner. And do I need to say more on its heavenly aroma? Naah! You guys might already by picturing it being sprayed on your skin while you unwind during your weekend spa (or at-home spa session) by now, right?

PROCEDURE- In a clean and dry blender, grind 4-5 tbsp of methi seeds till a fine powder is obtained. In one heaped tbsp. of methi powder, add a tbsp. of curd and adequate rose water to liquefy the concoction slightly. Do not add rose water in excess because curd too has whey which being a liquid will make the process of application arduous if rose water is added with abandon.

Mix well, apply on your face and neck. Avoid eye area. Wash off after 15 minutes with ample cold water. This pack will give you instantly brightened skin.

2. METHI POWDER & NEEM DECOCTION MASK

Vitamin A housed in fenugreek (methi) and incorporated in cosmetic products can treat a variety of skin disorders like acne, eczema, psoriasis and blackheads. Neem, by the virtue of having antimicrobial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties helps you bid adieu to pimples and acne. Guess what a combo of the two can do to your skin?

PROCEDURE- In a heaped tbsp. of methi powder, add sufficient neem water and mix well to form a smooth paste. Preparing neem water is a piece of cake. How? Just boil 8-9 Neem leaves in half a litre of water on the stove. When the colour of the water changes to dark green, switch off the stove. Let the water cool. Strain the water and discard the leaves. You water is ready! Told you it was a cakewalk.

Apply the mask on your face and neck. Let it dry. Wash off with cold water. Repeat once daily. This mask is a Holy Grail mask for those with oily skin.

3. METHI POWDER, BESAN FLOUR, HALDI & MILK MASK

The antioxidant properties of vitamin C in methi can help you from UV rays and prevent aging wrinkles. Fenugreek is rich source of vitamin K. Assorted properties in vitamin K help to treat stretch marks, spider veins, fade scars and reduce dark circles. Besan works to sort sallow complexion and Haldi (I recommend Amba Haldi and Kasthoori Manjal for both of them are specifically meant for skin care and not for cooking). Milk is enriched with lactic acid hence, helps in lightening one’s scars, spots and marks.

PROCEDURE- In a heaped tbsp. of methi powder, besan and a pinch of haldi, add adequate amount of milk to forma consistent paste. Mix well. Apply on your skin. Let it dry and then wash off with cold water.

Editor’s Note: These are some really good DIY masks, would surely try some.

To say that we all are subjected to the vicissitudes of weather would be truism. To say that we all bear the brunt of those weather changes that shows on our skin is yet again sooth. While we may have a multitude of quick-fix solutions at our disposal yet for those who do not eye quick results but rather long-lasting and non-toxic results, it makes sense to zero in on face masks that are not only devoid of deleterious chemicals but also infused with the virtues of natural ingredients in their virgin form.

On that note, here is a list of those face masks available in India that would help you bid farewell to zits/spots/marks.

1. Tarika Ayurlabs – At Tarika, the endeavour is to be as faithful to the principles of Ayurveda as possible. Right from the procurement of herbs to the packaging stage, there is indubitable synergy in the combination of herbs. The manufacturing process described in detail in Ayurveda is followed conscientiously sans taking shortcuts. No chemicals, preservatives or additives are added to the products. Incepted in 1995, the glorious enterprise’s owners realised that even though Ayurveda is a vast ocean of goodness to be delved into, not much attention is given to it by the government, policy makers and people at large.

Coming to their eclectic range, it is Tarika’s Pimple/Acne Removers mask that has me smitten. Claiming to treat stubborn acne, its inimitable formula was developed in 1996. Proven to be efficacious for all types of skin throughout the year, it is a 100% natural product. Shipped all over India, everything about it is impressive. It certainly cleared out my skin within a short span of time. I don’t have acne hence, can’t comment on its efficacy to tackle it yet I am certain of its bountifulness. Wondrous, I say!

PRICE- 280/- INR for 50g (Buy HERE)

2. Kan’s Natural Beauty Care- Mrs. Kanchana S Babu’s all-natural, preservative and artificial- fragrance free venture, all the way from Chennai has all the reasons to be on our list. Keeping an eye on each and every facet of her products right from sourcing her ingredients to the composition of the products, she is an encyclopaedia of home remedies. Incredibly patient to lend an ear to your skin/hair woes, she recommends products on the basis of what would work for you rather than force a product down your throat.

From her bewitching range of chemical-free products that span hair masks, face masks, hair oils and body scrubs, what caught my eye was the Kasturi Anti Pimple Face Pack which is made of 100% natural ingredients. Its natural ingredients include sandalwood, Vetiver, Rose petals and Neem, all of which are great anti-bacterial agents that control even the most severe of pimples and reduce marks and blemishes. Apt for use by everyone, it helps one achieve a more even and luminous skin tone overtime. For the price you are paying, you surely are getting a value-for- money product!

3. Raw Rituals- Composed of sandalwood powder, lodhra bark extract, ginger lily powder, fuller’s earth powder, wild turmeric powder, nutmeg powder and Aloe vera powder, Raw Rituals’ Tarditional Healing Face Pack spells luxury from the word go! Owned and operated by the courteous Mrs. Lovina Agarwal from the Manchester of India aka Ahmadabad, Raw Rituals’s range of products is not only chemical-free but also handmade and vegetarian.

With the aroma of their products attained by the virtue of addition of pure therapeutic grade essential oils, your nose won’t have to crinkle into folds in utter repugnance when a tub/pot/bottle of their product is opened. Rather, brace yourselves for you will be swept off your feet.

Apt for use by all skin types, it not only fades blemishes overtime (realistically) but also imparts a winsome glow temporarily which is augmented, if used regularly. Packed scrupulously in an aesthetic and travel-friendly package, it can be carted conveniently while travelling.

PRICE- 190/- INR for 25g (Buy HERE)

4. Quinta Essentia Organics- A little biased towards my fellow Delhi-ites, Quinta Essentia Organics- an organic skin, body and hair care venture is helmed by the lovely duo- Ms. Arti and Atika Gaur. No points for guessing, it is based out of Delhi and churns out indulgences.

No, I won’t call them “products”. They are far above than mere products. At the helm of affairs, is Arti who holds years of experience and a degree in Ayurveda from Dhyan Foundation. With a degree in biotechnology, comes Atika into the picture. Conscious consumers as the two call themselves, we cannot help but gawk at their drool-worthy range of indulgences spanning- body butters, cold-pressed soaps, hair masks, body oils, lip butters, mineral makeup, chawanpraash (formulated as per ancient Ayurvedic texts and wildcrafted/certified organic ingredients), sun veil, organic lip sticks and so on.

From their enticing range, what caught my fancy was the Olive Clay Soap. Packed in a tub which may confound one and all, it comes in a semi-liquid form and takes just a few minutes to work its magic. For use on damp skin, the time limit is 20 minutes whereas for those using it like a face wash, restrict it to 5-7 minutes. Post washing, it not only clears your skin tone instantaneously but also imparts a tinge of luminosity that looks incredulously natural- something most makeup products also fail in eliciting!

PRICE- 1,200/- INR for 70g

AVAILABILITY- Facebook

5. Vedantika Herbals- With a range that encompasses not only beauty products but also health food, Vedantika Herbals is here on our list. Known to keep the ingredients’ list of their products minimal, their beauty care range of products spans a body polishing ubton/ubtan, anti-aging face mask, skin glow mask, anti-acne mask amongst others. Shipped all over India, their beauty care products are packed in aesthetic bottles that make them handy as well as durable. Adding no nasties like- parabens, sulphates, phthalates, petrochemicals, SLS, SLES, alcohol and the ilk to their products, they believe in keeping pernicious chemicals at an arm’s length from their tempting products.

I find the Anti-Acne Mask from their range worth a mention. While I do not suffer from acne, I can’t comment on how efficacious it would be for a person suffering from the same yet, what I can comment about is, is its cooling and rejuvenating properties which make it an ideal pick for blistering summers. Good to enough to be used daily, it doesn’t suck up the moisture of your skin and is safe for use by all skin types. Pulverized finely, it won’t scratch your skin too. Creditable, isn’t it?

PRICE- 185/- INR for 70g (Buy HERE)

Editor’s Note: They all sounds really, would definitely love to try some of these.

Best Aloe Vera Face Packs to get Clear, Glowing Skin

Best Aloe Vera Face Packs to get Clear, Glowing Skin

By Nidhal

It’s juicy. It’s succulent. It’s tender. It is a magic potion for your skin and hair. If consumed on a regular basis, it endows your body with a whole range of vital nutrients. It comes packed in tubs, tubes and bottles but that’s as good as a paper airplane in the name of defence equipment! It’s not real. Raw/real Aloe vera displays the tendency to turn stale within half an hour of being extracted.

Naturally the one in tubs, tubes or bottles would either be conspicuously fake or pumped with an overwhelmingly large number of chemicals. In the name of revitalising our skin, why then go for something that is just gel and nowhere as nourishing as our real Aloe Vera is?

Today, I will enlist a few tried-and- tested face masks with real Aloe Vera that you can easily whip at home to nurture your skin from within

1. ALOE VERA & HONEY MASK

The secret of Aloe Vera lies in its long, tender, succulent leaves – it is this gel that makes aloe vera a magical plant. It contains a host of beneficial compounds like polysaccharides, lectins and mannans etc. The main constituent of Aloe Vera is water but it also packs inside a bulk of minerals, vitamins and many active compounds which will leave your skin nourished and refreshed.

Honey, on the other hand, being a humectant (moisture binding agent) traps in moisture and doesn’t let your skin feel dry or stretchy.

PROCEDURE- Simply extract the gel of a whole Aloe vera plant and add half the quantity of raw (preferably Manuka) honey to whatsoever quantity of Aloe Vera gel you’ve extracted. Mix, apply and wash after 15 minutes. Since the mask contains honey, it won’t dry up solely so, there’s no point in sitting with it for hours. At most, half an hour is suggested after which Aloe vera would tend to be infested by bacteria.

2. ALOE VERA & CURD MASK

Known to be a peerless retainer of one’s skin’s firmness, Aloe vera in combination with curd that has lactic acid and hence, efficacious in lightening scars, spots, freckles, marks, blemishes, etc. is a wonderful mask to kick away spots and dullness. It also raises radiance.

PROCEDURE- As usual, extract the gel of an Aloe Vera plant (a single leaf would be sufficient) painstakingly and add two tbsp. of curd to it. Mix both well, massage on your skin gently and let it stay for 15-20 minutes or till it gets dry completely. Wash off with ample cold water to reveal brighter and energised face.

3. ALOE VERA, BESAN & HALDI POWDER MASK

The humble Aloe Vera gel has anti-microbial properties which spells cheer. Why? Because that makes it ideal to treat acne and pimples. Did I just see acne-prone ladies cavort excitedly on reading this? Besan helps to sort sallow complexion thereby evening out skin tone. Haldi makes for an excellent instant skin brightening ingredient that you just cannot skip in this recipe. I would suggest using either Kasthoori Haldi or Amba Haldi because these two variants are exclusively crafted for skin care and won’t turn your skin yellow if applied a little in excess (of course, don’t add an entire pack of Haldi just to ascertain the level at which your skin would turn yellow)

PROCEDURE- Simply extract Aloe vera’s gel off a leaf. Add a tsp of Kasthoori haldi or Amba haldi as well as besan. Mix well, apply and wash off within 15-20 minutes. Do not keep any Aloe vera face mask for more than half an hour. It gets infested by bacteria. You may not feel it but its nutritive value surely diminishes.

4. ALOE VERA, MILK & RICE FLOUR MASK

This mask comes to rescue to those who are battling sunburns. Aloe vera helps reduce inflammation and when teamed up with milk (that is high in lactic acid which lightens blemishes and deep cleanses skin) and rice flour (which helps to even out complexion), there’s surely no way your sunburn would stay for long.

PROCEDURE- Simply mix adequate amount of raw Aloe vera gel in a tablespoon of rice and  little milk (enough to liquefy) the resulting mixture and smear it liberally on your skin. Once dry, splash cold water and scrub it gently to remove it. Voila! Someone’s glowing.

Editor’s Note: Loved this! I love curd & honey, definitely trying first two <3

Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque Review

Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque Review

By Pallavi

Hello Lovelies,

Here I am back with yet another skin care product. By now you might have understood that I am a big skin care junkie. I buy more and more products of skin care than makeup. Because I really believe that healthy skin is the key to beautiful skin. And in summers I love to use face packs. After a long tiring day my skin becomes so pale and tired that I need something to boost and revive my skin.

And that is the time when I am in urgent need of face packs. And this is one of those purchases – Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque.

Price: Rs. 449 for 100 ml.

Ingredients:

Directions to use: Begin by splashing some water on your face. Now, squeeze out the mask from the tube. Dilute the mask a bit with water. Spread the mask all over your face. Let it dry for some time say 15-20 minutes. Now, rinse away your face with water. You may be in need of more water for this clay based face mask. So, wash your face thoroughly.

What the brand Claims: Like the special clay masks that were a favourite with the Egyptian goddess Cleopatra, our French Red Clay mask never fails to soften your skin, preserve its complexion and impart a natural glow. It is a gentle paste of French Red Clay, which is an absolute powerhouse of iron and other minerals! Best suited for normal to oily skin types, it cleanses, detoxifies and exfoliates the skin, leaving it highly refreshed and toned. The clay is blended with Rose oil, virgin Coconut oil and the balancing Cedar wood essential oils. As the oils further nourish the skin, Turmeric powder and Sandalwood give it a distinctive radiance.

My experience with Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque:

The Packaging of Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque is very simple and travel friendly. It comes in a medium sized tube packaging which has product details written all over it. The tube has a wide cap at the top which needs to be twisted so that the face mask comes out. You need to squeeze the tube lightly. A very little product is required per usage. So, a single tube will easily last you for months.

Now, coming to the texture part. The clay based face masque is quite hard and not that easy to spread. So, you need to dilute it with water so that it spreads easily. After spreading it on face it will take some more time than the usual face masque to dry. Once it dries you can notice a clean and clear skin. You can also notice some redness around your nose area in case you have a sensitive skin.

And if you have a dry skin then you should pat some moisturiser on your face immediately after washing using this face pack. Yes, girls this face pack is a bit drying. But all clay based face masques are i believe.

Good about Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque

1. Goodness of natural ingredients

2. Travel friendly packaging

3. Price affordable

4. Little product required per usage

5. Cleanses face effectively

6. No breakouts

Bad about Natural Bath and Body French Red Clay Masque

1. Not easily available

2. Dries out your skin too much

Rating – 4/5

Editor’s Note: I love clay based face masks Pallavi, this sounds good!
