L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Hair Masque Review

By Monika

Hello to all the NLM readers!!!

L’Oreal is currently one of the leading brands in the market be it for hair care, makeup or skin care. Since I take care of my hair a tad bit more than my skin I was eyeing for a good hair masque after all, some extra care for your hair wouldn’t do any harm. As mentioned earlier L’Oreal is widely known for its hair care range so it only seemed fair that I bought the masque from their Total Repair 5 Range. Continue reading, to know my views on the product and how I use it.

Price and quantity: Rs 369 for 200gms (Buy HERE)

Shelf life: Best before 3 years from the date of packaging

Directions for use: Gently massage into washed and towel dried hair. Leave it on for 2 minutes for intensive treatment.

Product Claims

  • Hair is nourished, smoother, stronger.
  • Helps fight the signs of hair damage.

Ingredients: Water, cetearyl alcohol, mineral oil, dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium, methosulfate cetyl estres, lactic acid, phenoxyethanol, tridecth-6,chlorhexidine digluconate, limonene, linalool, benzyl salicylate, amodimethicone, 2-oleamido- 1, 3-octadecanediol, fragrance, cetrimonium chloride, butyl phenyl methylpropional, hexyl cinnamal.

My views on the product

The packaging of the product is somewhat similar to other products of the total repair 5 range apart from the fact that this hair masque comes in a tub. I personally would have preferred a tube or a bottle instead of the tub since, that ensures hygienic application. Otherwise, the packaging would have scored a perfect 10 for; the red colored cap along with the white colored tub which has white and golden detailing is extremely eye catching.

The tub is quite sturdy and leak proof so that you can carry it around while travelling. If you are carrying this in your travel bag or, for that matter if you are using it at home on towel dried hair you can most definitely skip your conditioner since it does condition the hair. There is not one specific way by which I use this product but, multiple ways which include using it as a mask before washing my hair, using it as a conditioner on towel dried hair after washing it. When used as a conditioner I leave it on for a good 5 minutes and then rinse it off with water. At times when my hair is feeling especially dry I take a pea sized amount of the product and use it as a leave-in conditioner. I have an oily scalp with slightly dry ends so I use this mask only at the ends but people with dry hair can go all out and use it onto their scalp as well as the ends. All of this being said, make sure that you use this mask not more than twice a week because the alcohol present in the ingredient list can be a bit drying.

The white colored mask has a pleasant fragrance which stays on the hair for 1-2 days after the wash. The texture as well as the working action is exactly similar to a conditioner and I see no reason why someone should pay extra amount of money for something that is no different from a conditioner. I, in particular had high expectations from the mask but it did nothing extraordinary apart from the general conditioning. The brand claims to help fight 5 signs of hair damage but even with regular usage I did not find any major difference in my hair. It does nothing to improve the hair texture, strength, shine and growth. This is one of the few products that I regret buying since it doesn’t live up to the expectations and is not cost-effective.

Pros:

  • Availability
  • Conditions hair
  • Travel-friendly packaging
  • Can be used in multiple ways
  • Pleasant fragrance

Cons:

  • Doesn’t help fight the 5 signs of hair damage
  • Heavy on the pocket
  • Can a bit drying coz of alcohol

Rating: 2/5

Final word

I wouldn’t recommend this mask to anyone and for the people who really are eager to try out the product can just try the conditioner from this range and that in itself would give similar results in spite of shelling out less money.

Editor’s Note: Sounds ok. Though I feel it’s not very expensive, coz all hair masques in the market are priced around the same.

Have you tried the L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Hair Masque? What do you think?

Top 10 Indian Bridal Hairstyles

Top 10 Indian Bridal Hairstyles

By Sanchita

Indian weddings are generally the typical ‘big fat’ ones and this is the D-Day of the bride. Everything, from makeup to costume and hair has to be on point so that the bride looks nothing less than an angel walking down the aisle. To achieve the desired heavenly look, make sure to choose your hairstyle wisely while decking up. Times have changed since the typical bun and braid hairstyles for wedding and now-a- days, the brides can look equally traditional and beautiful with short hair or long one. Of course there are various hairstyles to choose from but it also confuses us a lot. Therefore, we have narrowed down the top 10 bridal hairstyles from short, medium and long hair to enhance the facial features and make her the center of all attention.

Here goes the list.

For Short Hair

1. Reverse tiara hairstyle – This is a gorgeous hairstyle for short length hair. To achieve this look, first blow dry the hair with big loose curls in the front. Then, middle part the hair and attached the pearly tiara at the back and tugging the front hair. For the back portion, make some tight curls and use a hair spray to keep them in place. And hair reverse tiara hairstyle is done.

2. Side braid hairstyle – Blow dry the hair and do a side Dutch braid along the side till the back. Secure the end with a bobby pin. Now, for the rest of the hair, simply curl and tug them with bobby pins to give an illusion of volume. Make sure all the tugging is on one side to give an impression of side bun. Lastly, put 3-4 floral pins to decorate the look and use a hairspray to make sure the hair is kept safely.

3. Low bun with accessories – Well, you can create low bun with short hair as well! Simply straighten the hair (simple straight and not poker one) and middle part the hair. Give a sleek look and bring all the hair in the back, forming a low pony. Now, divide the pony into several parts. Take a single potion, roll it and tug with a bobby pin. Similarly, follow this up for other parts as well. Now, add the shown accessories from the front to the back side, forming a half crescent on both the sides. Use a hairspray to finish the hairstyle and a pretty bridal hairstyle is done.

For Medium Length Hair

1. Matha patti hairstyle – Matha patti is a very popular hair accessory for bride and has been used in various bridal occasions. Well, you can incorporate a traditional Matha patti and create a gorgeous hairstyle for yourself. This is best for medium hair length. Blow dry the hair well to create a natural volume. Now, middle part the hair slightly and tease the crown area and create a puff there. Secure it nicely with bobby pins. Now, for the rest of the hair, simply curl them and let it be loose. Wear the Matha patti and secure this with bobby pins at the back. Finish off the look with a hairspray to keep the hair in place.

2. Layered bun hairstyle – This one of the most elegant hairstyles for brides in the year 2016. To start off, blow dry the hair and create loose big curls. You can middle part or side part the hair and form a voluminous puff by teasing the crown area and secure it well with bobby pins. Now, take a portion of hair from both the sides, roll them and secure with bobby pins. Keep doing it till you reach the lower end and the hair would form something like a waterfall layered bun as shown in picture.

3. Braid and bun hairstyle – Combine the quintessential braid and bun and create a gorgeous voluminous bridal hairstyle. Blow dry the hair well and form a puff on the crown area. Create a fluffy French braid from the crown to the nape area and secure the end with a black rubber band. Take the rest of the hair and create a voluminous bun and secure it well. Apply hairspray to keep the hair at place and attach a floral pin or any other hair accessory of your choice.

For Long Hair

1. Twist up bun – This is a very detailed and beautiful bridal hairstyle for long hair. Middle part the hair and create two waterfall braid from the front and bringing them together at them back, encircling the crown area. Once done, secure the ends well and seal with a bobby pin. Now for the rest of the hair, comb well and detangle it properly. Take small sections and twist the whole length wrapping around your fingers and make a small bun out of it. Fix the bun properly with a bobby pin. Now, do this for the rest of the hair and eventually it will form a beautiful twist bun. You can decorate it with hair accessories or flowers.

2. Side swept curls – There is nothing more beautiful and heavenly that loose side swept curls for the bridal hairstyle. Deep condition and blow dry the hair well with voluminous spray. Now either middle part or side part the hair according to your preference. Next, bring the side layers (one at a time) towards the back, forming some volume in the front. For the rest of the hair, use a big curling wand to create big loose curls and side swept the hair. When the hair will cascade down, it will look stunning for the bride.

3. Loose braid for the Christian bride – Sometimes it is tough to create a hairstyle on thin hair as it may look a bit weighed down. But this loose braid hairstyle is the perfect pick for the Christian bride walking down the aisle. Firstly, side part the hair and swept it together on one side. Now, take a section of hair and make a fishtail braid. Once down, pull the sides of the braid to create volume. Repeat this procedure for one or more times. Once satisfied, take the front layer and tug it towards the back of the head and put a floral accessory to add some prettiness to it.

4. Traditional decorated braid – This is a very simple traditional long braid hairstyle for the bride. Simply middle part or side part the hair and create a neat braid. You can also opt for French or fishtail braid and decorate it with flowers or hair accessories.

#PatrickCameron & Wella’s Modern Vintage Collection

#PatrickCameron & Wella’s Modern Vintage Collection

Hi guys,

Last week I and a select few bloggers were invited to meet Patrick Cameron, Wella’s Global Ambassador and the world’s leading long hair hairdressing expert. He is called a magician of long hair styling!

Hair styling as a category in India has still not reached its full potential. Styling products are used mainly by stylists at salons and less frequently used at home. Wella Professionals as a brand strives to bridge this gap by providing the consumers and stylists with premium quality products making the art of hairstyling rather convenient.

Wella recently brought down the Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron to educate 1800 hair stylists across three cities in India through grand shows where he exposed them to the various possibilities of hairstyling and his association with Wella. He believes that hairstyling is an expression of individuality and thus cannot take a back seat.

Patrick has spent the last 25 years travelling the world sharing and presenting his show stopping hair styles. During this visit to India, Patrick Cameron showcased his Modern Vintage collection with state of the art styling products from the Wella Professionals portfolio. Modern vintage takes its inspiration from the 1960’s because this era has an enduring influence in fashion, in the balance and the proportions of the way hair is dressed .This legacy is seen across the board from international catwalks to red carpets as well as editorial work.

Acknowledged as a long hair expert, Wella Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron had devised the collection to showcase step-by-step looks and demonstrations to the hairdressers that struggle with styling long hair. These hair shows were held across three major cities in India – Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore where there was a live demonstration of these looks.

We met him a day after his hair show. He was quite happy to see majority of us sport long hair. He also gave us some styling and general hair tips and made us try out some products.

Some things shared by him which I would like to mention here:

  • Indians love oiling the hair, so go ahead and oil your hair. It’s not bad, but you can also use oils/serums/elixirs in between the days when you haven’t oiled.
  • Keep the shampoo a little longer in your hair for it to work and ingredients to penetrate. Don’t wash off immediately.
  • Always use a conditioner/hair mask, that is what will keep the ends/lower half hydrated and shiny
  • One can use a dry shampoo to add some volume/texture to the hair

He is a genius with hair, he looked at few of the bloggers and predicted their personality with the way they carry their hair! He complimented my hair saying they are hydrated and hence shiny. He also explained how if the lower half of the hair is dry, light passes through the hair and they appear dull and rough. And when they are healthy and moisturized, light bounces off the hair and it gives them a shiny appearance.

It was a pleasure meeting him and learning few tips from him, a wonderful experience.

Khadi Trifla Powder Review & How to use for Hair

Khadi Trifla Powder Review & How to use for Hair

By Nidhal

The most common and irksome hair woe everyone be it a man or a woman faces today is the dreaded 8-lettered word ‘HAIR FALL’. Didn’t it send shivers down your spine? Its roots (no pun intended) find origin in myriad causes ranging from stress to poor/substandard quality of products used, from bombarding oneself with chemical-laden products to diet deficient in proteins. ‘When everything fails, head to Granny dearest’ is the mantra I espouse and live by both metaphorically and literally.

My grandmother’s pearls of wisdom in the realm of hair care have always had one product since times immemorial. No points for guessing ( for you would have already seen what it is thanks to the title of the post), it is TRIFALA POWDER (also called ‘Triphala’). It is a blend of three herbs- Amlaki (Amla), Haritaki (Harar/Hadad) and Bibhitaaki (Bahera/Baheda). And the three together, pack a punch at so many hair woes that you’d be left wondering why on Earth didn’t you use it before.

Trifla Powder is also excellent for people suffering from constipation, acidity and irregular bowel movements. You just need to have one spoon with water whenever you feel bloated or have irregular bowel movement. Do not have it regularly as the body gets used to it.

I grabbed KHADI TRIFALA powder from a Khadi store in Delhi a few months ago. Today is the time for us to know if it deserves a second try or not 🙂

PRICE- Rs 45/- for 200 g

DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Mix Khadi Trifala powder in the base ingredient. Mix well. Apply on scalp and hair. Rinse with cool water.

INGREDIENTS- Amla, Harar and Bahera

WHAT IT CLAIMS- Trifala is good for constipation and acidity. It regulates bowel movement. (This indicates that the product is edible)

MY EXPERIENCE-

Packed in a simple plastic pack, the packaging of Khadi Trifala powder is way too simplistic in fact, underwhelming. Once cut open, the contents need to be transferred to either a clean container or a zipper pouch. Carrying it while travelling is a hassle both ways. As a result, I think it would be better if Khadi revisits its packaging decision for the current one for this product is disappointing.

Khadi Trifala powder is finely powdered and that makes it a cakewalk to mix it with the base ingredient of one’s choice be it curd, water, raw milk or anything that suits one’s hair type. Since my hair type is dry, I team it up with coconut milk. I suffer from one hair woe and that is why I opt for coconut milk because of its intensely hydrating properties.

I have used the above concoction for a month consistently without fail twice a week and what I noted was an improvement in my mane’s volume, strength and frizz control. It softened and imparted shine/lustre too but that wasn’t as praiseworthy as some of the herbal powders I had used in the past such as-hibiscus powder. It is important, I believe to be realistic. One product cannot be a Hindi film hero who’d bash all the goons to pulp, mouth one-liners that’ll make the audience whistle in awe, rescue his leading lady and basically do everything 😛

This product is no different. When used consistently over a period of time with the right base ingredient, it works wonders in some spheres (say-volume increase, strength, frizz control) but doesn’t perform as well as expected in some (shine and softness). Perhaps, addition of a few more ingredients to the above mix help me achieve my ‘unachieved goals’. All in all, it is a good investment keeping the price and its benefits in mind. Go grab a few packets to treat your mane naturally!

GOOD-

1. Dirt-cheap

2. A single pack will last long. Each pack contains 200 g of Trifala powder which is sufficient to last long.

3. Finely powdered hence, mixing with any base ingredient is cushy.

4. Gives complete volition to the user to mix with whichever base ingredient one wants to say- milk, curd, water, etc.

5. Strengthens hair overtime

6. Removal is easy

7. Other ingredients can be added to the Trifala+ base ingredient mix such as- Reetha powder, shikakai powder, tulsi powder, etc.

8. Makes one’s tresses voluminous

9. Suitable for use by all

10. Natural. No chemicals pumped into it hence, a safe solution to combat hair woes.

BAD-

1. Limited availability. It isn’t easily available online. The only option currently is to visit a Khadi store and grab it.

2. Does not impart as much shine as is expected from Trifala powder (Amla imparts shine)

3. Packaging needs to be improved. The provision of a zipper pack will be better.

4. Does not soften hair much. I have used some herbal powders before and this powder does not soften my tresses as much as those did. That said, it does not even dry my hair too.

RATING-4.5/5

Editor’s Note: Trifla is fabulous, I have had it often as a part of capsules if I suffer from irregular bowel movement. But I have not used it directly as a mask, though a part of hair masks in general. I would surely give this a try Nidhal.

Have you tried using Trifla powder for your hair?

Haircut at Juice Salon: I went Short! #GetTheLookWithJUICE

Haircut at Juice Salon: I went Short! #GetTheLookWithJUICE

Hi guys,

I had not got a haircut since December i.e. last I had got it done just before my wedding. So, it had been a good 6-7 months and my hair desperately needed a cut. Last week I went to the Juice Salon at Inorbit Mall, Vashi to try out their new monsoon haircut + style. Ronnie, a super talented and an amazing hairstylist came down all the way to Vashi for me.

You must have seen this pic on my Instagram.

Juice has come up with 3 new hairstyles for the monsoons, 2 for women and 1 for men. I tried out one according to my face shape and hair texture. Ronnie started with washing my hair and then applying a serum which also works as a heat protectant for the blow drying later.

She chopped off 4-5 inches from the ends. Now this is the first time I have gone this short at a time 😀 I have always had long hair and hardly go short,so this is a refreshing change.

She layered on the top section to give the hair volume on the crown. And side swept bangs to frame the face which I am completely loving. She made sure she gives a haircut which is just was-and-go on regular days. And it indeed is, I am completely loving it.

Ronnie wanted soft, wavy curls at the ends but not those tong ones, a much softer version. She curled the ends with a hair straightener and then blow dried the crown section to give volume.

She gave me a lot of hair tips about serums, shampoos and hair styling products in general,it was so good chatting with her. She used a hair spray on her palm and gently used it on the top for the bangs to stay in place.

Here is my ‘Before’ and ‘After’

Me and Ronnie..

This is how my hair looked from behind.

Time for the surprise! One of you gets a chance to get this haircut. All you have to do is:

1. Follow me (@bhumika_t) and Juice Salon on Twitter.

2. Tell me a good reason as to why you need this haircut, you can tweet tagging me and Juice Salon and use the hashtag #GetTheLookWithJUICE

The contest is open only for Mumbai residents and it starts today and ends on 15th July,2015.

Philips HP8302/00 Selfie Straightener Review

Philips HP8302/00 Selfie Straightener Review

The Philips Selfie Straightener. It is a low-cost smart styling gadget for all the women out there, which straightens hair to give a salon style finish! Perfect for all the young girls out there, it offer good and long lasting results, similar to other straighteners launched by Philips in the past, but on low investments. It has been designed in an attractive and extremely manageable size, one can fit it in her bag while traveling or carry it in a handbag if its needed later in the day! The cost of the product has also been decided keeping in mind the limited allowance of the college students.

The Selfie Straightener has been designed to work on all hair types and comes in an attractive design and colour. A must have for every girl’s hair styling routine, it is easy to use, light weight and ergonomic and most importantly, doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. It’s ceramic coated plates heat up in less than 60 seconds, to style your hair perfectly and selfie ready!

What the Company claims: Straighten and style your hair with this easy to use straightener. This product makes styling at home quick and convenient. Look your best for all those important selfie moments.

210°C professional temperature for perfect salon results This styling temperature enables you change the shape of your hair, and gives you that perfect look like you’ve just come from the salon.

Ceramic plates for smooth gliding and straight hair Infused ceramic plates for ultra smooth gliding and straight hair.

Fast heat up time, ready to use in 60 seconds The straightener has a fast heat-up time, being ready to use in 60 seconds.

A useful swivel cord rotates and prevents tangled wires  The swivel cord technology conveniently rotates the cord and prevents unnecessary tangles.

Use anywhere in the world with universal voltage This straightener is ready to use anywhere in the world and is compatible with 110-240 voltage.

MRP: Rs.1195/- (Available for Rs.1045/- on Flipkart)

To start with, it is the most small and handy hair straightener I have come across till date, very convenient for packing along. I love the black and pink color. The plates are not too wide, so you can only cover a smaller portion of hair part by part.

I love the fact that it heats up instantly, no waiting here at all! It heats up to 210°C and there is no heat setting here, you just plug it in and start using it. The cord is long enough and the swivel head helps you work around your hair without hassles.

The ceramic plates are safe for your hair and give a smoother result. I have almost straight hair but with wavy ends, I usually need to straighten the lower half for smooth, straight looking hair.

Now this is quite small and handy and best used for daily use, when you just want to straighten your bangs or the ends like how I use it. If you have long or curly hair and want a completely straight look, this is not the product for you as that needs wider plates and more heat.

Ignore my half makeup face, as I jump from hair to makeup to outfit when in a hurry :p

Coming to the price, it is very economical and a straightener at 1000 bucks is a boon for college goers. Also, this product is perfect for them as it can be easily carried along in their bags when they directly go partying from college 😀 Philips’ products come with a 2 year warranty, that again is a plus.

This is the ‘After Straightening’ result on me..I have used it on my lower half of the hair.

As you can see, hair is not poker straight but a lot straighter and less frizzy. I prefer the natural look it gives.

Overall I would say it is a must buy if you are in college and looking for something on a budget or need a straightener to carry with along during travels.

Have you tried the new Philips Selfie Straightener?

Shampoo for Different Kinds of Hair

Shampoo for Different Kinds of Hair

This is the common type of question people ask when it comes to hair care, which shampoo and conditioner would suit my hair. Now there are different kinds of hair, some are oily, some dry, curly, wavy, straight.frizzy, etc

Now what kind of shampoo would suit which hair type..let’s get on to this..

1. Dry hair

Your hair needs moisture and at the same time if you are washing your hair daily,it is getting ripped off the moisture. So you need a shampoo that is creamy and moisturising and yet gentle enough for everyday use. Also dry hair is more susceptible to hairfall and breakage since they are more brittle. A good, rich conditioner is also required for dry hair. I absolutely love the L’Oreal Professionnel Absolute Repair Lipidium Shampoo and Mask. Or the Schwarzkopf Professional BC Repair Rescue Range. You can also follow with a good hair serum for the ends. Look for ingredients with naturals oils, shea butter, etc in the shampoos and conditioners. Oil based shampoos like L’Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish also work for dry hair. Oil your hair once a week for an hour before shampooing.

2. Oily hair

This type of hair is more sticky and limp due to excessive sebum production, Make sure you do not massage your scalp a lot, leading to stimulation of the glands and also wash hair with warm water and not hot. A gentle, clear gel based shampoo works for your hair type, something like Biotique Bio Green Apple Fresh Daily Purifying Shampoo or Omved Brahmi & Peppermint Shampoo. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week. Look out for ingredients like Panthenol and Wheat Protein in the shampoo. Also use the conditioner only towards the ends.

3. Coloured/Straightened Hair

Since the hair has gone through chemical treatments, it is best to use a SLS free shampoo so as to let the effect stay longer. The Body Shop Rainforest Range is SLS free and all natural. There are also a few natural brands like Omved and SoulTree which have SLS free shampoos.

4. Curly hair

Curly hair needs a right shampoo to maintain its curls and texture. You do not want straighter looking hair which actually leads to neither straight nor curls kind of hair. To maintain the natural form of the curls, a separate shampoo for curly hair is needed. I would recommend Curly Twirls, Kerastase Nutritive Bain OleoCurl Curl Definition Shampoo or TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Shampoo.

If you have frizzy hair, a shampoo recommended for dry skin above would work. A good serum will help control frizz and also avoiding heating tools as much as possible, would keep frizz under control.

What kind of hair do you have? And what shampoo do you use?

Head & Shoulders Nourishing Winter Care Anti- Dandruff Shampoo Review

Head & Shoulders Nourishing Winter Care Anti- Dandruff Shampoo Review

Hey guys,

I am so sorry for not posting much. I have got a bit lazy with all the resting. Also I have started watching the Hip Hip Hurray series again..do you remember? Finished half..loving it!

Come winters, dandruff becomes my main hair concern :/ The dry climate only worsens the scalp. I am glad I got to try an Anti Dandruff Shampoo at the right time. I started using it in Jan, now since summers have started, its not too much of an issue though. I use this once a week now.

Remember the contest I had hosted HERE, I myself was trying this shampoo out and here is the review

Head & Shoulders Nourishing Winter Care Anti- Dandruff Shampoo for Women

What the Company claims: Richly indulgent anti-dandruff shampoo for dry damaged or frizzy hair. Leaves hair up to 100% dandruff free. Gentle enough for everyday use even for color or chemically treated hair. Formulated with Head & Shoulders’ Fresh Scent Technology featuring enhanced fragrance notes for an improved in-shower scent experience.

MRP: Rs.163/- for 170ml

Claims,Directions,Ingredients:

Its a blue and white colored slightly curved on the top bottle packaging with a flip cap. The shampoo is creamy white in color and smells amazing!

It lathers well and is not even that drying as the other anti-dandruff shampoos I have tried (even Head & Shoulders variants)

I definitely saw a reduction in my dandruff and it was not too harsh on the hair too.

Overall hair was soft and smooth and it reduces hair fall caused by breakage of hair. Also less dryness, which is the first for me, in an anti- dandruff shampoo. Worked great for me. Definitely recommend! If you do not have too much of a dandruff issue, you can use it once a week. I have switched to using it once a week now.

But even when I was using it everyday, I did not experience any extra hair fall as such. I liked the Nourishing  Winter Care.

Rating: 4/5

Learn about the Causes of Hair Fall and its Effective Treatments

Learn about the Causes of Hair Fall and its Effective Treatments

Guest Post

Find out all about hair fall treatments and the safe remedies that can be easily followed at home. Pay attention to your hair by eating right and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Nothing can be more attractive than a head with thick hair that shines with health. A bald patch on the scalp or thinning hair can be an embarrassing situation among peers. Every person has about 100,000 strands of hair on their scalp, and it is proven that losing 50 to 100 strands a day is normal. It is time to pay attention and follow some hair loss remedies when you start experiencing severe signs. There can be several causes of hair fall, and it is crucial to take the necessary treatment. Some of the most common factors for this condition are hormonal changes, junk food with no nutritional value, unhealthy lifestyle, stress, medications, vitamin deficiency, thyroid disorder, and menopause. Other reasons such as environmental effects, excessive smoking, scalp infections, genetic factors and chemical products also add to the severity.

Nutrients for maintaining good hair

A strong immune system plays a vital role for having good hair. If you fail to provide the right nutrition to your hair, they will eventually fall. Start eating properly and include the following products in your diet for hair fall prevention:

  • Omega- 3 Fatty Acids: Foods rich in omega- 3 fatty acids provide nourishment to the follicles, thus acting as one of the best hair loss remedies. You can have flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon, sardines, and soybeans.
  • Zinc: If you have a deficiency of zinc, then it could be one of the major causes of hair loss. Zinc helps to build proteins and boost tissue growth and repair. It also controls hormones and can lead to hair loss. Zinc-rich foods include seafoods like oysters and crab, lean beef, wheat germ, spinach, pumpkin, nuts, pork, and chicken. These foods are effective for hair fall treatment.
  • Protein: Our hair is made up of protein, and its deficiency can lead to bad hair. It can also be the cause for graying of hair. You can consume milk, cheese, yogurt, lentils, salmon, poultry, eggs, beans, soy and lean beef for getting maximum protein benefits.
  •  Iron: Iron carries oxygen within your body. Its deficiency can lead to less oxygen in the head and ultimately poor blood circulation. Protein-rich foods include egg yolks, red meat, dry fruits like raisins and prunes, leafy vegetables, turkey, beans, and chickpeas. Seafood lovers can consume oysters, clams, and scallops.
  • Vitamins A and C: These nutrients produce sebum, which is the oily substance secreted by our hair follicles. It prevents hair from breaking off and improves iron absorption. However, keep in mind that this vitamin needs to be consumed in moderation. Eat sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, Swiss chard, winter squash and lettuce for vitamin A. Fruits such as papaya, bell peppers, strawberries, pineapples, oranges, and kiwi are rich in vitamin C.

Home remedies for hair loss

  • Oil massage: An oil massage can improve the blood flow to the hair follicles, strengthen the hair roots and condition the scalp. It relaxes the scalp and reduces the feeling of stress. You can use hair oils like coconut or almond oil, olive oil, amla oil and castor oil. You can add a few drops of rosemary oil to the base oils for powerful hair fall prevention.
  • Fenugreek paste: Fenugreek, also called methi, is an extremely beneficial hair loss remedy. Its seeds have hormone antecedents that improve the hair growth and rebuild follicles. They are a powerful source of nicotinic acid and proteins that stimulate hair growth. Apply its paste to your hair for about 40 minutes and follow this routine once in a month.

Styling the new Lakme #HairIsFashion Hairstyle and Win a Hair Makeover

Hey guys,

Remember my new Lakme Absolute Salon #HairIsFashion Show Stopping Hair makeover HERE. I am in love with the subtle highlights and the cut Shefali gave me.

The highlights get a bit lighter and more visible after a few washes..so they are a little more prominent now.

How I would love to style my new hair?

With western/casual clothes, I love the way its blow dried here. I would prefer doing the same..straight locks with in between subtle hints of highlights on the crown and from behind the neck. The auburn looks perfect with a brick red lipstick here.

With Indian wear like a saree/dress, I would go with softer curls on the ends turning them outwards something like this..

Or add some embellishment with bangs similar to this (I am thinking of experimenting with short bangs)

Or side swept hair with waves..

Curls pinned to one side something similar to this..

Can’t wait to try different hairstyles..would definitely update you guys with pics of more trials..

For now, here is a contest for you guys..one of you gets a chance to win this Show Stopping Hair Makeover at Lakme Salon.
