As I mentioned in the previous post, I have not been oiling my hair much from the last one year or so and does the need some nourishment as it has also turned drier.

Tamper proof flip cap

I got to try this new Dabur Amla Hair Oil. I like the new packaging and the flip cap which shuts tight, does not spill and dispenses only the desired quantity. It has that typical amla oil smell, but does not bother me much and a light green tint.

With the change of weather and water, my scalp is super itchy these days. I really needed something to soothe the scalp and reduce the itchiness and flakiness. It did exactly that and the scalp feels so much better.

Its not very sticky and heavy and does not give the chip chip feel. I did not notice longer or thicker hair as such, coz I anyways have a good length of hair and it grows quickly and also coz the time period is still too less to conclude that. Stronger yes, also coz of less irritation to the scalp and less dandruff issues in winters, if oiled regularly.

But one needs to use it continuously to see results. Amla also helps people with premature greying of hair. Those who use amla oil regularly from a young age still have rich, dark hair in their old age. (Have seen quite a few examples)

I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Dove Hamper Giveaway- 5 winners

Dove Hamper Giveaway- 5 winners

‘It was a Saturday night, I was getting ready for the biggest party in town, when the mirror asked me, do you think your hair is well nourished?’ Well, I have virgin hair and I haven’t really colored or straightened my hair ever. I have just got the Cysteine treatment done once which is very safe and lasts hardly a month and a half or so. But I have been hardly oiling my hair from the last one year or so and I know my hair has turned drier. Also a lot more unmanageable and frizzy. I can so no, not well nourished enough.

Come winters and my biggest problem is dandruff. The scalp is super dry and itchy these days and I have been trying 1-2 anti-dandruff shampoos but no luck yet. I know I have to take extra care of my hair too and not just skin, and that goes for most of us I believe. We all take our hair for granted and torcher it. BBLUNT Perfect Balance Shampoo, Intense Moisture Conditioner Review

BBLUNT Perfect Balance Shampoo, Intense Moisture Conditioner Review

What the Company claims: Perfect Balance Shampoo For Normal To Dry Hair

This pick-me-up for your hair gives it great moisture balance. Its unique formula gives you perfectly cleansed, healthy hair. An everyday fix made simple.

Ingredients: Glycerin & Provitamin B5

Specially created for Indian hair with a unique colour protect formula.

HOW TO USE: Thoroughly wet hair. Take one pump or more and spread evenly by massaging the scalp with gentle circular motions and running the fingers through the lengths of the hair. Rinse out thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.

Ingredients List:

MRP: Rs.500/- for 400ml

You can buy it online HERE or from any BBLUNT salons.

What the Company claims: Intense Moisture Conditioner For Seriously Dry Hair
This moisture-rich conditioner makes out-of-control hair manageable. It smoothens, softens and adds shine. Show your hair some love.

Ingredients: Jojoba, Vitamin E, Hydrolyzed Keratin & Wheat germ oil

Specially created for Indian hair with a unique colour protect formula.

HOW TO USE: Remove excess water after shampooing. Apply evenly to lengths and ends, avoiding the scalp. Leave on for at least 3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately.

Ingredients List:

MRP: Rs.375/- for 200g (Buy online HERE)

They have four different ranges in shampoo and conditioner:

  • Born Again- For Stressed Hair
  • Full on Volume- For Fine Hair
  • Perfect Balance- For Normal to Dry Hair
  • Intense Moisture- For Seriously Dry Hair

I got recommended the Perfect Balance in Shampoo and Intense Moisture in Conditioner after my hair consultation.

Shampoo and Conditioner are a part of Prep. They also have dry shampoo, foams and other styling products as a part of Style.

I have been using this from quite some time now. To start with, I love the packaging! So colorful and the shapes are fun too! Pump packaging in shampoos are very convenient, though not good for travel. You can pump it out in a small bottle for travelling. And the conditioner has a flip cap packaging.

Both are white in color and have a fresh smell. Shampoo is a little runny and does not foam too much but decent enough.

Shampoo cleanses the hair thoroughly well in one wash and hair does not feel dry after cleansing, it maintains the Ph balanace as claimed.

Conditioner is rich and creamy and since I have drier ends, its perfect for them.

Hair had less tangles while being washed. It gave volume and bounce to the hair. Hair was smoother with less frizz. But it does not give a sleek look or shine, I was not even expecting that.

It does not weigh the hair down. And is a normal no fuss shampoo that cleanses the hair thoroughly while maintaining the moisture balance. Hair is neither oily nor dry and stays so for 2 days. Its safe and light enough to use everyday too.

Conditioner is rich and creamy and moisturises the ends, but still did not weigh the hair down. Neither made it oily or greasy.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are decent enough and good for everyday use. They do not claim tall things. It is what you expect from a normal shampoo and conditioner.

Only availability is an issue. Its either available at BBLUNT salons or online.

It does not have SLS but does have SLES,it does not foam much, so mild enough to cleanse your hair and get rid of the dirt and grease.

Wella SP Luxe Keratin Boost Essence Review

Wella SP Luxe Keratin Boost Essence Leave in Treatment Review

What the Company claims: LUXEOIL KERATIN BOOST ESSENCE
This luxurious leave-in Keratin treatment contains formula with oils and selected amino acids which boosts the hair structure from within. The treatment infuses into the hair to reconstruct and strengthen the keratin, instantly aligns hair fibers and builds resistance for weak hair.

Application: Spray 6-8 pumps on wet hair to facilitate easier combing. Ideal as a cutting lotion for hair that needs deep reconstruction. Do not rinse; dry as usual.

Formulated with nourishing jojoba, almond and argan oils, as well as amino acids, the treatment ensures your hair stays smooth, soft and supple, whilst preventing moisture loss and offering protection from environmental aggressors. A wonderful multi-tasker, this fabulous product will leave your hair exuding lustre and vitality.

SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL LUXE OIL uses a reconstructive Transform Technology that benefits hair inside and out, while protecting it from damage:
• Hair texture feels up to 10 times smoother after just one application.*
• 3 times more Keratin Protection, providing instant and long-lasting, smoothness.**
• Leaves hair looking healthy and naturally beautiful.
• Hair is easy to style every day, thanks to a special, lightweight oil formula.

Ingredients: Aqua, Alcohol Denat., Cetrimonium Chloride, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Panthenol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Polyquaterniu,-11, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Parfum, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Threonine, Histidine, Glycine, Arginine, Alanine, Argana Spinosa Kernel Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Camellia Oleferia Seed Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Amyl Cinnamal, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool.

MRP: Approx. Rs.1500/- for 100ml

Wella SP Luxe Keratin Boost Essence comes in a transparent gold spray bottle form with a small cap to cover the nozzle and looks like any body mist.

Its very very light in texture unlike any hair serums, and has a soft floral smell. Easy to use, just spray and leave it on.

It does control frizz to some extent and adds some shine to the hair. It does not weigh the hair down since its very light. And the best thing is, it is silicone free. It detangles the hair and also works as a heat protectant. Blow dry after using this, for best results.

For me personally, I need a little heavy oil based serum for the frizz to be completely controlled. (may be coz of the silicones) So if I have to choose one, I did go for a heavy serum like the Streax Pro Argan Secrets Serum. But there are days, when I choose this over a heavy serum. There is also a Luxe Oil Reconstructive Elixir in this Wella SP Luxe Range, would try that out next.

Its surely on the expensive side and not easily available too.

Those of you who find serums heavy or they make your hair greasy, this is the perfect choice. I would love to try Wella Professionals Oil Reflections too, have heard a lot about it. (Its not from the Systems Professionals Range though)

Rating: 3.5/5

Philips Essential Care Air Straightener HP8658 Review

Philips Essential Care Air Straightener HP8658 Review

What the Company claims: Get naturally straight hair using this ‘HP8658 – Essential Care Air straightener’ from Philips. This straightener also takes care of your hair with its ThermoProtect temperature. Gentle drying and styling offered by this straightener will impress modern women.

Other specifications:

  • 650W for best results
  • Paddle straightening brush for naturally straight look
  • 2 flexible heat and speed settings for more control
  • 1.8 m cord for maximum flexibility
  • 2 years worldwide guarantee

MRP: Rs.1695/-

I love the pink and white color to begin with. It has a separate head and handle, which can be joined and removed easily whenever required, and is quite convenient to store and carry around. You just need to attach and turn for the head to lock in, and unlock and detach with just a button.

Its not exactly a hair straightener, but a hair dryer cum comb with which you can dry and comb your wet hair at the same time, and give it a straighter, sleeker, blow dried look.

Comes with

It has two heat settings, one low heat and the other high heat. I usually prefer low heat on a day to day normal basis. I love the fact that I do not need a separate hair dryer, and I can dry my hair making it more sleeker with this. It also helps in controlling somewhat frizz.

Twist and Interlock, Press Button and Detach

It gives a nice, smooth, straight look. Blow drying and styling hair at a salon costs anywhere around Rs.1000-2000/-. You can achieve a similar, if not the same (obviously) look with a one time investment like this.

This is how paddle brush looks. See the gap in between is from where the hot air blows

It works for dry hair too, in detangling the knots and giving a smoother appearance, but I would recommend the low heat setting on dry hair.

Two Heat Settings

I also love the fact that it comes with a 2 years worldwide guarantee. (which I guess most of Philips products are)

Styling
Instructions

Here is how the hair looks after drying completely and using it for 10 minutes. I usually am in a hurry, so did not use it for a longer time, it would give a more sleeker look with longer duration.

In Process
After Hair

It also comes in a KeraShine version i.e HP8659 (priced at Rs.2395/-) with ion technology and ceramic plates that helps even more in frizz by controlling and relaxing the static hair. I wanted to try the KeraShine one. If you are someone who has frizzy hair, or are ready to spend a few extra bucks, go for the KeraShine one.

And if you are someone, who would like to try this out, or don’t wish to spend much coz you are not sure if it will work that good for you (its super easy, so that should not be an issue though), you can go for this normal Essential Care Air Straightener.

Rating- 3.75/5 (KeraShine would be +0.25)

Have you tried/wish to try the new Philips Essential Care Hair Straightener ?

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Shampoo,Conditioner Review

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Shampoo,Conditioner Review

What the Company claims: Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Range:  Enriched with the goodness of oils and fruit  vitamins,  Triple Nutrition nourishes and strengthens* the hair  from scalp,  through lengths to tips, leaving hair strong, nourished, shiny and manageable. This range has been specially developed for Indian women and has an exquisite fragrance. The conditioner can be applied on hair and scalp.

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Strengthening Shampoo: Available in 80 ml for MRP Rs. 69, 175 ml for MRP Rs. 135, 340 ml for MRP Rs. 230, sachet:6.5ml for MRP Rs.3

Shampoo Ingredients:

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Strengthening Conditioner: Available in 80 ml for MRP Rs. 70, 175 ml for MRP Rs. 135,sachet: 7.5ml for MRP Rs.4

Conditioner Ingredients:

Recently Alia Bhatt, being the new Garnier Fructis Brand Ambassador, launched this new Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner at Palladium Hotel.

It comes in a lovely yellow colored packaging. Triple Nutrition involves Coconut Oil, Almond Oil and  Olive Oil. I was never much impressed with Garnier Fructis range especially the conditioner, coz what I seek in a shampoo is smooth, silky, shiny hair which the previous range did not give me.  Though it helped in cleansing well and frizz control, straighter hair.

So I did not expect much from this range too, but reading the claims and ingredients, I did find it interesting.

L’Oreal Paris had launched the 6 Oil Nourish Range sometime back, and both L’Oreal and Garnier Fructis fall under the L’Oreal Paris group. So another oil based nourishing shampoo range from the same parent company, was intriguing.

The ingredients of both the ranges are quite similar. Even the 3 oils out of the 6 in L’Oreal 6 Oil Nourish Range are the same, with actually the slightly more expensive ones like Argan, Jojoba and Camelina being removed, when the price of both the ranges is exactly the same for the same quantity.

Though I would say its nice that its not completely oil based and has a blend of fruits like lemon, apple and sugarcane extracts too, which makes it lighter and perfect for oily scalp and hair.

Both the shampoo and conditioner are white in colour. Not too thick nor the runny kinds. I love the fresh lemon, apple smell!

Shampoo cleanses hair amazingly well in one single wash. If you have oiled your hair, you might need two washes. Conditioner is creamy but not rich. And not gel like which slips or falls from the hand, like in some brands. Its the perfect texture and moisturizing enough. Though they say you can use it on your scalp, I never use the conditioners on my scalp.

Leaves the hair softer, smoother and stays so for 2-3 days without the scalp feeling oily/greasy. And hair was tangle free. Though it does not help much in hairfall and dandruff, which I did not even expect it too.

If the shampoo/conditioner is not moisturizing enough, it may leave the hair dry, but if it is too rich and creamy, it weighs down oily scalp and hair, though works well for dry hair.

L’Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Range is richer and perfect for dry hair. This one is moisturizing yet light enough for normal to oily hair.

Overall, I liked it. Much beyond expectations being Garnier Fructis. The 1st ever Garnier Fructis range that worked so well for me.

Have you tried the new Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Shampoo, Conditioner ?

Iraya Keshavardhak Lepa Review

Iraya Keshavardhak Lepa Review

Keshavardhak Lepa (Nourishing Scalp-Tonic Pack)

What the Company claims: Revitalises the scalp bringing essential nutrition to the hair root. Restores its natural vigour and vitality.

Iraya’s Keshavardhak Lepa, an ancient ayurvedic recipe contains 11 powerful herbs for reversing premature hair loss. It is a powerful hair tonic compound that strengthens the hair root and stimulates micro- circulation in the scalp. Helps prevent and stop hairfall. The perfect care for thinning hair and for treating alopecia.

Usage: Form a thin paste by mixing it with water and/or some oil (for dry scalp). Part the hair and carefully apply to the entire scalp. For best results, cover your hair with a hot, wet towel and leave on for atleast an hour.

Note- After the first application, you may notice some hair fall, do not worry these are dead hair follicles that are eliminated as the first part of the treatment.

Ingredients: 11 powerful ayurvedic herbs including triphala, gokharu & maka

MRP: Rs.495/- for 50g

It comes in a cute wooden jar matki with a cap. And inside you have the powder in a plastic zip pouch.

Since the product is to be used on the entire scalp, the 50g pack would last 3 uses. You can either mix it with water or with oil. I have tried once with both. The hair and scalp feel a little drier when mixed with water, coz the water would evaporate quickly and you need to keep the mask for an hour.

With oil, hair won’t feel dry, but it would be a little difficult to wash off.

I used it alternate weeks i.e with one week gap in between. I did not notice any hair fall as such when I was using this, but could not notice any new hair growth too, in this short time and in just 3 uses.

Before- After

Though the herbs mentioned in the ingredients like triphala, gokharu, maka and a few others are the best to prevent hair loss and regenerate new hair. But, one needs to give it time and use it consistently to see results.

I think it should have been sold in a 100g pack and obviously at less a price than the double of 50g, to be economical and for one to see some good results.

Overall, I would say, definitely worth a try if you are suffering from hair loss.

Have you tried the Iraya Keshavardhak Lepa or any other ayurvedic preparation to fight against hair fall ? Did you notice results ?

Visit to L’Oreal Paris Labs Mumbai

Visit to L’Oreal Paris Labs Mumbai

Hey guys,

Few weeks back, I was invited to visit the L’Oreal Paris Labs in Mumbai and see how they make the hair color, process, behind the scenes, etc.

At first, we were given an introduction to the new L’Oreal Paris Casting Creme Gloss and the new Chocolate Collection (See more HERE). We were given a presentation about what goes behind L’Oreal Paris and the research in the labs by Maxime De Boni.

Then we took a round of the L’Oreal Labs on the other floor. Later we saw the rooms where they give the hair color to women to try on themselves and observe their way of application, way of washing it, etc. They also help them or teach them if they feel the method is not right.

A discussion room right besides their room, to work on their observations and how and what they can include in the product, to make it easier for women to colour their hair at home by themselves.

We also saw a small experimental salon where they colour their hair and a light room to check the hair colour under the dark light.

Overall, it was good to see ‘what goes beyond’ the hair color and the research involved. Though I would say, it could have been better if we were taken inside the labs to see it live, but since it was against the company’s policy, can’t do much there.

Have you seen any lab where makeup/hair products are made ? Your experience ?

Streax Pro Lovely Hair Argan Secrets Serum Review

Streax Pro Lovely Hair Argan Secrets Serum Review

What the Company claims: A complex blend of essential oil, this moisturizing serum helps to replenish and restore dry and frizzy hair. Designed to provide an expert solution to everyday hair problems, this professional serum is aided with the rich benefit of Argan. Non greasy and greatly effective, the serum leaves hair soft and supremely conditioned, allowing you to let down your hair anytime, anywhere.

Claims & Ingredients:

MRP: Rs.349/- for 45ml

I like using hair serums as it controls most of the frizz especially in monsoons since hair is more frizzy due to the moisture and humidity (A forever story in Mumbai anyways)

I had not heard about Streax serums before, as hair color was always I associated it with. So, when I got to try this, I was all in, also coz I love Argan Oil.

It comes in a small dark tinted glass bottle with a white pump packaging and a small plastic clear cap to cover the white pump dispensor.

You just need two pumps of it and its more than enough. I love using it on my ‘just washed’ damp hair. Texture is slightly on the stickier side since its more ‘oil like’ than a serum. But then, I feel this is the reason, it controls frizz like nobody’s business !

Since its heavier, you just rub the serum in your hands and take thick strands of hair and press your hand against the strands, as if you coating them. You would still be left with some product even after covering entire portion of hair, as its just like touching them and not rubbing it on.

I love how my hair feels smoother and there is no frizz at all, after using this. It smells good too, not completely argan but slightly sweet coz of the added perfume probably.

Its a blend of argan, almond, walnut oil and Vitamin E. It does have silicones too, but it does not contain mineral oil or parabens. I guess silicones is something which is unavoidable in serums as that creates a layer on the hair to protect from moisture and not get frizzy.

I used it on both wet and dry hair. And IMO, I did not like using it on dry hair since its on the stickier side, it does not settle well on dry hair. Whereas it blended in, on wet/damp hair.

Overall, I would say I really loved it. Now its my staple after every hair wash. And since, you do not need much, the 45ml bottle is going to last long. Turns out economical at Rs.349/- even though its slightly higher priced than other serums. And I would prefer something like this with a blend of oils, rather than plain serums with just silicones. Highly recommended.
