In 2011, Nitin took charge of INDOLA as the technical head, and has played a key role in increasing the footprint of the brand across the country.

I interviewed Nitin..and asked him some major concerns Indian women face, how to tackle them and some easy DIY hairstyles and how to do them..

1) Major issue of women in India is hair fall…how do you suggest tackling that?

There are lots of reasons for hairfall, and one of them is stressful lifestyle.Other reasons to it would be nutritional deficiency, dandruff, excessive oiliness of the scalp, illness, thyroid imbalance, etc

Take proper care for your hair, use appropriate shampoo and conditioner. Once in a month go for Hair spa treatment. Make sure you get adequate sleep.Consult a hairdresser or doctor if your hair loss is increasing even after you take proper care of your hair.

2) Dandruff is a bane in winters..How to fight against it?

With winter setting in, the skin tends to dry out and dandruff is aggravated. Simple dandruff is harmless and disappears on its own within 15-20 days. However, if you have persistent dandruff and experience an increase in hair fall for a period of two to three months, then the problem is a little more serious.

It seems to thrive in oily hair, so regular shampooing can help you fight it off.  Massage your hair so that you can clean your skin as well as your hair. Again for the second time you can wash, rinse and repeat because first wash removes the oil layer and second wash helps removing the dandruff.

Maintain a healthy and a balanced diet.

3) Some quick easy DIY hairstyles..

Braids: it has become a huge trend of modern times. Youngsters and woman are sporting this look for parties, weddings, etc. Well, it can be counted as a simple hairstyle that works for all occasions. But when a braid is worn in a variation looks amazing. Different kinds of plaits ( like Fish tail plait, Rope Plait etc.) can be worn. These plaits can also be used to create and enhance updos.

Curly Hair: Curl your hair using a diffuser and then it can be left loose or pinned to create a sexy look. A gorgeous look for a romantic weekend getaway or an evening out with that special someone.  These curls are very soft.

Steps for romantic curls:

• Dry hair using the Diffuser attachment on your blow dryer.
• Take a small barrel curling iron and wind horizontal sections of hair.
• Spray hair all over with a flexible styling spray.

Ruffled  messy buns: they can be easily done at home. Following are the steps for the same.
Snip the toe tip of your tube sock and roll it up until it forms a mini donut.
Using your fingers, comb your hair up into a high ponytail and secure with a hair tie. You decide how high you want it, but I would not suggest a sky-high one if you are going for a more casual look. (For a sleeker ponytail, feel free to use a brush.)
Take the ends of your ponytail and pull it through the donut. Spread out the very ends of your hair around the donut so that it is slightly covered. Tuck those ends under the donut.
Roll donut with the tucked ends down the rest of your ponytail until you reach your head. There will be some fly-away pieces and some that fell out of the donut while rolling. Leave those alone. They add to the tousled, messy look.
Ruffle the bun with your fingers to loosen it and pull a few random strands out to make it even more tousled. Now, you’re done!

French knot: If you want a clean hairstyle, then you should always go for French knot.
Comb your hair thoroughly so that they become smoother and easier to manage. Neatly separate a section of hair from the central region of the top of your head.
Again, comb your hair entirely, including the separately held section and hold them together as you do while making a pony.
Hold the base of the pony and twist the pony so that it covers your left hand fingers.
Now remove your left hand from the center of the twisted pony keeping it tight and fix it at the top using bobby pins on all its sides so that it forms a bun. Similarly fix the tail. Settle the extra hair which may come out of the bun.
Tighten the bun as much as possible. Use a hair spray for a shiny look.

4) Which hairstyles look good on Indian face structures? For medium long hair..For curly and straight hair each…

1. Curly Hair- As most indian women have wavy to curly long hair, so to enhance the natural texture of the hair, an appropriate layering or graduation technique can be used depending on the face shapes (e.g  forward graduation, pie layering, square layer etc). a side fringe can be crafted to highlight the whole look. )

2. Straight Hair – If you have straight long hair, keep it smooth, shiny, one length and have a straight solid fringe as such fringes a very much in Vogue.

Thanks for the answers Nitin..quite a help..

I hope you all found it helpful too..

How to use Lakme Eyeconic White Kajal

How to use Lakme Eyeconic White Kajal
From Snow White in fairytales, Megan Fox in Hollywood to the sexy Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor everyone is in on a new beauty secret- White!. This new colour trend has made its way from runways and fairytales to mainstream make-up routines the world over. It is a shade that helps achieve a range of looks from ‘sexy siren’ to ‘subtle princess’ with a single stroke of the pencil. The new range of kajal pencils by Lakme Eyeconic includes the unmissable white kajal that marks a new dawn in eye-styling. The unconventional Eyeconic White also allows you to experiment with your style and wardrobe and challenge yourself to be adventurous everyday. For generations, the black kohl has ruled the make-up box of every contemporary Indian woman with its ability to quickly brighten the eyes with minimal fuss. Now it’s time to break that code and widen the gaze by adding white to your make-up essentials.
Here are a few quick tips to add some adventure to your eyes.
Tip #1: Highlight the Inner Corner

Use white eyeliner to highlight the inside corner of your eyes. Starting from the corner, fan out about a centimeter on the top and bottom lid. This will make your eyes brighter and very captivating..
Tip #2: Layers of Color
Produce a white line of your top lid twice as thick as you would normally apply a black kajal. Next, apply black or brown liner on top of it with a line about half as thick. This will create a double eyeliner look that makes your eyes stand outwith a little drama.
Tips #3: Under Your Brows To Highlight Your Brow Bone

Use the Lakme Eyeconic White kajal to accentuate your eyes by highlighting your brow bone. This can be done with simple sweeps underneath the brow then smudging it along the brow bone.

Find Your Scent: 6 Perfume Facts To Know Before Hitting The Store

Find Your Scent: 6 Perfume Facts To Know Before Hitting The Store

Guest Post

The olfactory sense is the strongest in means of triggering memories. We are instantly taken back to a specific time and place when we smell certain things. Therefore, when it comes to your signature perfume, it is important to pick one that truly represents who you are. To find your scent, there are six perfume facts to know before hitting the store.

1. Skin Type

Everyone has a unique skin type, and the best place to start when shopping for perfume is to identify yours. The main point to take into consideration is whether your skin is oily or dry. Dry skin will absorb the scent more quickly, so a more highly-concentrated perfume is the best option.

2. Time of Day

Many don’t realize it, but the sense of smell is keener later in the afternoon and on warmer days. Therefore, the best time to shop for perfume is in the afternoon on a warm day. This will help you really understand what scent you are getting and how it works with your body chemistry.

3. Shop for Variety

There are a number of options available for perfume shoppers. Unfortunately, most retailers are only able to offer a small percentage due to constrictions on spacing availability in the store.

4. Avoid Multiple Spritz

When shopping for perfume, it is tempting to spray multiple products onto the skin. This is not productive as the combinations confuse the senses. The product you choose will be skewed, and you may not like it when it stands alone.

First try each scent out on the tester strips, then you can narrow your choices down to a few of what you really like. Then be sure to test them on your skin. After you have sprayed them, give the perfume between 5 to 10 minutes to mix with you natural body chemistry. It will change the way the scent smells and give you an idea of what you are getting.

5. Point of Application

When applying perfume, there are ideal places you want to focus on. Pulse points are best such as the middle of the neck, wrists and behind the ears. If you prefer a more subtle scent, spray the perfume into the air and walk through it. In either case, avoid spraying directly on clothing as certain brands can induce staining.

6. Fragrance Families

Once you have identified a few different fragrance families that complement you well, it is always good to have them available. Using one scent everyday can cause you to get bored with it. Having the ability to switch up your daily scent is invigorating.

Always Smell Your Best

The way we smell gives a lasting impression on those around us, and it is important to make sure those memories are ones that reflect you well. By following these six tips, you will be able to pick out your optimal scent when you hit the store.

Trending Eye Makeup Tips from Jenna Menard

Trending Eye Makeup Tips from Jenna Menard, Clinique Global Colour Artist New York

Clinique Global Colour Artist New York based Jenna Menard has shared tips on the application of eye make up while answering interesting queries such as make the eye make up pop while wearing glasses and to avoid creasing with powder eye make up bursting some myths about powder eye make up. Please do credit her with any tips you my use.

Clinique has recently launched the All About Shadow, All About Shadow Primer for Eyes and Quickliner For Eyes Intense range for a long lasting eye make up that gives a perfect finish and definite style.

Jenna Menard, Clinique Global Colour Artist On Eye Makeup

Best tip to apply eye liner
When applying eye liner, keep it as close to your lash line and work from there. There should be no space between your lash line and the eyeliner. Using the side of a pencil allows you to apply a straighter line rather than using the tip-drag the liner along the lash line to help create a straight line.

I also love blending liners all over the lid and then using the same shade to draw that more intense line closer to your lash line. Keep sharpened if you are trying to get a precise line.

Creating a smokey eye effect

I love layering eye shadow over eyeliner in order to create dimension through different textures. Smudging a soft liner and topping with a shadow creates a smokey eye that is easy to achieve and will last throughout the day. Rather than black, I gravitate towards creating smokey eye looks with color.

Colour to compliment your eyes :

Colour is a great way to compliment your eyes. There are certain colours that will make your natural eye color pop-the same goes with certain clothes that you wear. Many people believe that black or dark eyeliner will bring out their eyes more but that is not usually the case only because it becomes overpowering and it becomes more of a distraction rather than a compliment.

·        Green -purple shades will brighten your eyes.
·        Brown- gold/bronzes work well with brown eyes

Make the eyes appear larger

Using a slightly lighter shimmer shade on the inner corners of your eye, curl your eyelashes, extend eyeliner slightly past the lash line to give the illusion of larger eyes, add bottom mascara, use a gray or brown liner shade rather than black.

Jenna’s Essentials Quad

Mistakes with the eye make up

They are not willing to experiment or try different things. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with your makeup. Each day try something slightly different.

If you are used to using only a beige/champagne/nude powder eye shadow try a subtle shade in a different texture. This small change will open doors for you.

A modern way to wear bright eye shadow

Using 2 various shades of a bright color and layering them to create a bright eye shadow look. You can do the same with an eyeliner and a shadow, cream shadow and a powder shadow, 2 powder shadows etc. If you feel daring try a combination of 3

Prevent eye shadow from creasing

Preparing the lid with a cream base or eye shadow primer is your best bet. Only a touch of product is needed to help with the creasing problem. It’s just as important to blend the product you are using as a primer as it is to blend the shadow that is going on top.

Women who wear glasses use shadow to make their eyes pop

Glasses paired with a strong eye is a great look. To out-power glasses, the key is making shadow visible. A light wash of one shade may not be enough. Layer a few bold colours or create a graphic shape and work those lids under the glasses.

Some of the biggest myths about powder shadows
·        Eye shadow doesn’t look good on me. Women love to say this about things they don’t know how to apply!
·        Eye shadow makes me look more tired. Select shadows in complimentary shades to your skin tone and they will make               your eyes pop.
·        Eye shadow is impossible to put on. It takes practice, so start easy.
·        Powder shadows never stay on. With the proper products and formula they will.

Great colour combinations

·        French Vanilla, Sunset Glow, Graphite (all singles)
·        Wave after Wave (duo) with Pacific Coast (single)
·        Day into Night (duo) with Peach Pop (single)
·        Starlight Starbright (duo) with At Dusk (single)
·        Jenna’s Essentials Quad: A palette that complements any shade combination.
·        Galaxy Quad: Amazing colour that can be worn individually or all together.

Naturally Easy Ideas for People of All Ages to Appear Stunning

Naturally Easy Ideas for People of All Ages to Appear Stunning

Guest Post

Nature has provided the human race with all possible materials to maintain the beauty of mind and body. Beauty is only sustained or gained when one is healthy physically as well as mentally. Therefore, just using the suitable organic cosmetics is not enough to retain your natural beauty. You must also take care of your mind in a natural way so that a perfect balance is obtained between the body and mind. Therefore, along with taking care of skin, hair, nails, and eyes via natural cosmetics; an equal importance must be given to a balanced diet and relaxation strategies for proper body toning and mental boost. Let’s now take a look at different natural ways that can retain your overall beauty.

For Hair

A nutritious diet plays a big role in contributing to shiny and strong tresses. Because each hair strand is made up of protein, it makes sense to have a protein rich diet for obtaining strong and healthy hair. Apart from that, vitamins and minerals are also essential. Foods rich in Vitamin A and B such as mango, dried apricots, dark green leafy vegetables, and whole grain cereals promise healthy tresses. For combating dry scalp and dandruff, essential fatty acids and zinc are required. These nutrients are present adequately in nuts, pumpkin seeds, and vegetable oils (specified particularly for the vegetarians).

For Nails

Like hairs, even nails are made up of protein. This protein is known as keratin. Therefore, for making your nails look pink and smooth, it is vital to include all essential amino acids and vitamins in your daily diet. Many people are of the opinion that deficiency of calcium is the reason behind fragile nails. However, this is only a myth because calcium has no role in making the nails strong or in causing those white flecks that is mostly caused due to over manicuring or zinc deficiency. Calcium is required for making your teeth and bones healthy.

If your nails are shaped like a thin spoon, it marks the deficiency of iron and zinc. Therefore, you need to take foods such as green leafy vegetables, raisins, jaggery, and dried dates. For proper absorption of iron, Vitamin C is needed; which is richly present in citrus fruits. In addition, foods rich in zinc are ideal for treating fragile nails and infection present in the flanking skin. Having olive oil can also make your nails as well as tresses shine.

For Skin

Did you know that skin is the body’s biggest organ? Because it is the skin that makes one look charming, a majority of people crave for a healthy and beautiful skin. A simplest way to fulfill this desire is to drink plenty of water that moisturizes as well as softens the skin for making it healthy. Apart from water, Vitamin E is equally important for the skin and is present copiously in wheat germ, seeds, and nuts. It is especially useful for treating acne. At the same time, one must avoid all items high in sucrose, such as cakes, sweets, chocolates, and soft drinks. Further, refined and processed foods must be substituted with fresh fruits, whole grains, and vegetables. In addition, Vitamins A and C are essential for the proper development of the epithelial skin layers as well as for prevention of clogged up pores.

For Mind

Beauty is incomplete without a healthy mind. Therefore, you need to make your mind free from stress so that it remains happy for having a beautiful body. For this, you need to take enough rest and practice some relaxation strategies such as breathing exercises (pranayams) and poses (asanas) for proper maintenance of overall health. It is equally important to sleep for at eight hours to avoid stress or sleep disturbances.

All About Airbrush Makeup

All About Airbrush Makeup

Guest Post

Airbrush makeup is makeup sprayed onto the skin using an airbrush instead of being applied with sponges, brushes, fingers, or other methods. It is popular in film, theater, and sunless tanning; although systems designed for personal cosmetic use in the home are also available.

Very thin layer of foundation is used, which is layered again and again untill a flawless smooth base is achieved.

More often for the red carpet appearances, celebrities have been buffed to perfection with thin layers of foundation applied skillfully through a flick of their makeup artists’ wrist using spray on makeup.

Traditional powder or liquid based make-up can settle and appear in pores and wrinkles and be visible on HD film. As the makeup is sprayed on, it connects with the skin as millions of droplets of formula. The formula can create an even, sheer, natural appearance to the skin that, if applied properly for a natural look, can appear natural and non-heavy like traditional makeup. Airbrush makeup wears longer than traditional powder or liquid foundation, able to stay put upwards of 12–24 hours.

Airbrush makeup is also available for eye shadow, blush, eyebrows and lips and can be layered, shaded, highlighted and contoured. Application wise, the technique is more sanitary than traditional makeup application due the artist never having to touch the skin. It’s also faster, if done by a trained artist.

An airbrushing gun shaped like a pen is used..and few drops of liquid foundation especially made for airbrush is used matching your skintone which is then sprayed in layers all over the face covering the whole face.

Airbrush makeup is applied by layering several passes of makeup. This allows the artists to build upon previous layers to produce subtle changes. When applying foundation between 6-12 drops of makeup is used. The makeup is sprayed onto the face at a distance of 6-12 inches

Red Carpet Tips and Tricks

Red Carpet Tips and Tricks

Namrata Soni has a reputation for transforming A-list actors into red carpet stunners. Her signature look of fresh dewy skin and pretty pink pouts has earned her many fans in the tinsel town including the likes of Sonam Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma and even an IIFA award. She shares her top five tips and tricks to rock a red carpet appearance like a Bollywood pro.

Red Pout: “Nothing is more red carpet appropriate than a red pout,” says Soni. “Choose a red lipstick that suits your skin tone and fill in only after defining your lips with a red liner. Thin lips need not worry. Create an illusion of fuller lips with some high shine gloss. Swipe two coats in the center of the bottom and the upper lip for a bee-stung effect.”

Camera-ready: “Strategic placement of highlighter is very important when you know that camera flash will be attacking you from every angle. Dust an iridescent gold or pearl coloured highlighter on your cheekbones, on the bridge of your nose and on the chin to capture light perfectly and use your facial contours to full advantage. For an all-over gorgeous sheen, add powder bronzer to baby oil and smooth over exposed skin.

Flawless Face: “Flash can be very unforgiving and the biggest mistake you can commit is skipping the foundation altogether and applying only concealer on your problem spots. Foundation is important even if you have great skin and few minor flaws. It creates an even base for you to work on and camouflage flaws to perfection.”

Fake Drama: “False eyelashes create drama and are a must for any red carpet look. Whether you’re rocking a red lip or a bright pop pout, false lashes is all you need to add oomph and balance your look. Cut and customize false lashes to your lash line and don’t forget to apply liner to fill in any gaps and blend the real and false lashes seamlessly. Apply two coats of volumising mascara and you’re ready to flutter your eyes for the shutterbugs.”

So Slick: “If you don’t have enough time for a wash and blow-dry, use this secret tip that I swear by to transform a bad hair day into glamorously, swishy locks. Smooth over some MorocccanOil for shine and tame flyways and pull hair into a side ponytail or a low, tight knot. These sleek and sophisticated hairstyles make any outfit look put together and takes my celebrity clients from a shoot to stardom in no time.”

So were these tips helpful ? I love and religiously follow using highlighters and gloss at the centre..

All About Mascaras: The Best Mascara For You

All About Mascaras: The Best Mascara For You

The Best Mascara for Your Lash Problems

Whether your goal is to lengthen, darken, volumize, define, or generally super-size your lashes, this expert advice will improve your batting average.

Time to Lash Out

Mascara has been a cosmetics staple since the ancient Egyptians stained their lashes with kohl about 6,000 years ago. Now a tube of Maybelline’s iconic Great Lash mascara is sold about once every second somewhere in the world.

When it comes to immediate cosmetic results, mascara is hard to beat. “It’s the quickest way to frame your eyes and give them instant definition,” says Carmindy, makeup host of What Not to Wear.

Perhaps because we expect so much from a humble tube of pigment, we experience a range of frustrations with mascara to this day — clumping, flaking, and smearing. “It takes a lot of trial and error to find the best mascara for you,” says Ricky Wilson, a celebrity makeup artist for Dior. “Women sometimes forget that the lashes are their own hair and just end up buying a mascara based on a commercial or what their friend uses.”

Read on to find out how makeup artists and cosmetics chemists avoid and address mascara mishaps. Plus, learn which formulas they say are the best for you.

Clumping

Does your mascara transform you into Tammy Faye Baker? To address clumping, Ni’Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist and vice president of research and innovation at Englewood Lab, in New Jersey, recommends blotting the brush on a clean tissue to remove excess pigment that can be deposited in clumps.
Also, check the product label. “Mascaras with a high wax content will smear easier and can be prone to more clumping than mascaras with more gums,” Wilson says. Waxes commonly found in mascara include paraffin, carnauba, and beeswax. Gums might be gum tragacanth and methyl cellulose.

The mascara brush matters just as much if you have trouble with lumpy lashes. Celebrity makeup artist Kristofer Buckle prefers “a silicone brush that glides through lashes while perfectly separating them.” He also recommends avoiding brushes that feature a wide spiral formation. “This allows an uncontrolled amount of product to be coated onto lashes, leaving them clumpy.”

CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion ($8.99) delivers a separated-lash effect by means of a silicone brush and a slick formula.

Flaking

Just as a little pain is the price we pay for wearing high heels in the pursuit of mile-long legs, flaking is often the unpleasant consequence of the quest for longer lashes. The polymers used to make mascara waterproof and to elongate lashes tend to flake, says Ni’Kita Wilson. “They are necessary, and it’s difficult to avoid them in lengthening and waterproof formulas,” she says.
The solution is all about application technique. Wilson says the key is to apply just one or two coats. Also, allow each coat to dry completely if you apply more than one. If you’re not seeing the results you want with two coats, consider switching to a cream formula for more volume and fullness, says Sarah Lucero, a makeup artist with Stila.

For a flake-free option, try Nuance Salma Hayek Full Effect Ultra-Volumizing Mascara ($9.79).

Smearing

Pandas and raccoons are pretty much the only creatures that look cute with black rings around their eyes. Humans, not so much. Smearing of mascara is usually more of a problem in warmer weather, when heat and humidity break down your makeup. Ni’Kita Wilson suggests wearing a waterproof formula when it’s warm, but one that contains polymers rather than waxes. “Polymers form a film around lashes that is more likely than waxes to seal the pigments in place,” she says.
You can also prevent mascara runoff with some carefully placed translucent powder, Buckle suggests. He advises patting powder around your eyes — to cut down on oil and moisture — before applying mascara.

To avoid mascara smear, try Neutrogena Healthy Volume Waterproof Mascara ($7.99).

Stubbiness

Ni’Kita Wilson maintains that length is where the brush is every bit as important as the formula. “You want to make sure that you’re using a brush that allows you to get to the base of your lashes without gouging your eyes,” she says. “Women with really short lashes may want to opt for a thinner brush or a comb-style brush.
Combing through your lashes can also help prevent a short, stubby effect, says Brett Freedman, a makeup artist and the founder of Vanitymark. A ‘wetter formula will spread a bit more easily, but it can also fuse lashes together. Freedman suggests using a lash comb to separate and define lashes while the mascara is still wet.

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara ($22) will grab lashes and coat them all the way to the tips for length and definition.

Sparseness

Anyone hoping to fatten up sparse lashes should know that bigger is better. Ni’Kita Wilson explains that volumizing mascaras tend to use fat brushes with waxy formulas. “The waxes coat the lashes and increase the diameter of each lash,” she says.
Look for a wand with a cone shape — thick at one end and tapering to a point, says Mario Dedivanovic, a celebrity makeup artist who works on the impressive lashes of Kim Kardashian. “I use the thick part of the brush on the upper lashes, and the pointed part for the lower ones,” he says. “I sweep a few of the lower lashes at a time from left to right to evenly coat them.”

For “glam chop lashes” (Mario’s term), try Lancôme’s Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara ($25).

Brittleness

“Mascaras that yield both thickness and volume typically have a dry formulation,” says Ricky Wilson. This allows them to be built quickly in a few coats, but it can tend to dry lashes out, making them brittle. He suggests addressing brittle lashes by layering mascaras with different formulas: “I always use more than one for those who love lashes because the different formulas provide really eye-catching effects.”
Think of your lashes as you would your hair, and condition them to prevent breakage. A dab of Vaseline on your lids at night should do the trick. Or try a conditioner designed for your lash line, like RevitaLash ($98 for a three-month supply).
You can also add “conditioner” to a dried-out mascara tube. Freedman suggests adding a drop of rosewater to the brush and swirling it around the tube. Another genius tip is to add a drop or two of SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel to your mascara to keep the formula wet.

Lack of Curl

Curled lashes create a wide-eyed Bambi look that’s enlivening for anyone who appears tired and dull in the early morning. You can add curves with a tweak in technique. Freedman advises brushing the center lashes straight up, sweeping the lashes in the inner corners of the eyes toward your nose, and angling the outer lashes toward the temples.
Arched brushes can also mold straight lashes into curved shapes. And there is always the trusty lash curler.
Give your lashes a dramatic turn with Stila’s Forever Your Curl ($22), which reaches each individual lash and even lets you skip the lash curler.
