Corporate Fashion Inspiration from Bollywood

Corporate Fashion Inspiration from Bollywood

By Nidhal

Chances are you would have been at your wits end when it comes to zeroing in on the ideal outfit for office at some point of your life. It is not school where everyone has to wear a uniform. It is not college where you have complete volition to try out whatever you’d like to be it- the ethnic kurta, the grungy rock star attire with a bandana or your go-to long skirt teamed with a tank top. Office calls for a change in your wardrobe, doesn’t it? So, why not glance at the best corporate/office looks that Tinsel-town ladies carried in panache and borrow some?

1. KAREENA KAPOOR KHAN- In a film whose immanent theme was role reversal ‘Ki and Ka’, Kareena played Kiya- the head honcho of a multinational company. Swaddled in the most chic and comfortable one-pieces (not gaudy or revealing ones) with cropped blazers that makes the entire looks trendy as well as professional. Kudos! Mrs. Khan.

2. SONAM KAPOOR – The Fashionista of Bollywood- Sonam Kapoor cannot be left behind when it comes to making waves with her effortless fashion style. Seen here is Sonam decked in black and white formals that are teamed with a pair of goggles that give a nerdy and chic look. Her mane let loose might look prepossessing but according to me that is the last thing any lady with a corporate job should go for. Reason? It will stick around with things/your body the moment you step out of an air-conditioned room and entangle with objects thereby break. So, the bottom line is to borrow ideas practically.

3. ALIA BHATT –Inarguably she displays the most eclectic range of ethnic office attire. Seen here is Alia swaddled in a plain black kurta with a pink Chinese collar and dupatta. This is from the scene where she is seen during a presentation in the movie – 2 States. For those ladies who are neither fond nor comfortable with sporting western office attire, sporting such plain kurtis comes across as a viable option.

4. KATRINA KAIF- She looked picture perfect in Fitoor. Not many can carry off red hair well and she looks dreamy with that fiery colour on her tresses! Seen here is Katrina (who essayed the role of Firdaus Jaan Naqvi in Fitoor) swaddled in atypical Western office attire but with a casual twist. The rolled up sleeves and slightly plunging neckline that doesn’t look risqué, makes it inimitable.

5. DEEPIKA PADUKONE- My vote for the best office/corporate attire to come out from Bollywood has to be from Deepika in Piku. Keeping the weather in mind, Deepika opts for a traditional fabric kurta with palazzo pants and mojris. Her accessories include bags, sunglasses, earrings and a scarf. The palazzo pants make sure that the fabric does not stick to one’s body and discomfit a person during our infamous sweltering summers.

6. PRIYANKA CHOPRA- And the Quantico girl arrives on the list and how! Shown to be working for Verve magazine in Dostana, PeeCee’s look had to be glamourous, chic and dramatic- something not usually associated with the minimalistic looks we see in conventional office jobs. As a result, she swaddled herself in bright dramatic outfits that looked apt with the field she was shown to be in- fashion.

7. DEEPIKA PADUKONE- We can’t help it if the lady has it in her to get a second feature in the list. Deepika Padukone, in the early days of her career essayed the role of a corporate employee in Kartik Calling Kartik. Shown to be a woman of today, her look was kept minimal and sophisticated. With soft curls cascading down her shoulders, she sported simple sleeveless white shirts teaming them up with a black figure-hugging skirt.

Editors’ Note: I loved Katrina in Fitoor and Deepika in Piku

Indian Women in RIO Olympics 2016

Indian Women in RIO Olympics 2016

By Pallavi

What is trending everywhere these days?? Well, may be all of you might be having numerous answers but I am sure majority of you will say RIO Olympics.

The 2016 Summer Olympics or RIO Olympics is an International multi-sport event being hosted by Brazil. Athletes of different sports from all over the world are competing against each other. And by God’s grace some other sport in India other than cricket has become the talk of the town and the highlight in RIO Olympics for India are the women athletes. They are large number of women athletes representing our country and making us proud. But we are very sure that many of you might not know them. So, here out of my overdose of patriotic feeling below is the list of Indian women athletes at Rio Olympics who are raising not only the Indian flag high but also our pride too –

1. Deepika Kumari: She is representing our country in Women’s Individual Archery who is currently ranked at world no. 5 and is a former world no. 1. She has also been a proud recipient of Arjuna award in the year 2012. Deepika with 640 points has secured the 20th position.

2. Aditi Ashok: She created history by becoming first and youngest Indian to win the Lalla Aicha tour School hence obtaining her 2016 ladies PGA tour card. At Rio she is currently at the third round of competition where she is just 4 strokes away of making it to the top.

3. Dipa Karmakar: Hailing from a Bengali family she was serious about her passion in gymnastics right since the age of 8. She gained limelight at 2014 commonwealth games where she won bronze for India. At Rio 2016, she attained fourth position with an overall score of 15.066.

4. Sakshi Malik – Born at Rohtak, she is a live example of making it big inspite of being from a small town. At the age of 12, she thought seriously about wrestling by drawing inspiration from her grandfather. She became the first women wrestler to win a bronze for India.

5. PV Sindhu – She hails from a family of professional volleyball players who have been a recipient of many prestigious awards. Do you know she used to travel a distance of 56 Km. every day to practice? Well, as they say the victory tastes sweet only when you have made serious efforts. We can’t stop congratulating her on being the first women to win individual silver.

6. Lalita Babbar: The 27 year old long distance runner became the talk of the town when she won Mumbai Marathon for the 3rd time making it hat-trick. At Rio 2016, she finished at the 10th position in the final race.

We have mentioned a few women only here who made a commendable performance at Rio but there are many other who also made our country proud at the biggest sporting event. All these women are making each and every Indian proud at Rio Olympics and we wish all of them ’All the Best’ and hope they add will many more feathers to the Olympic medals cap of our country.

What do you feel about these Indian women in Olympics? I am so so proud!!

The Home Salon: Review & Experience

The Home Salon: Review & Experience

Hi guys,

So a few days back, I tried out The Home Salon who provide professional salon services at your doorstep. This concept of providing beauty services at home is quite in trend these days and there are a lot of competitors in the market.

About The Home Salon: We are your beauty Santa Claus! Have you ever thought of waxing and then changed your mind because the salon was so far away? Or wanted a massage because you were tired, but too tired to travel to a spa? Do you wish beauty was at your fingertips – something so effortless & regular, it almost felt part of your routine? That’s why we exist. To remind you to feel beautiful even when you you’re down! To help you look good and take away those blues. To love yourself so you can love others! To help the world’s best manager manage herself! So curl up your legs, take a break and call us home! Allow us to indulge you in the choicest of beauty & spa therapies without having to so much as raise a finger! Watch us do our magic while you simply sip on your coffee. And better still – do this at your time and convenience!

To start with, my appointment was booked for 2 pm in the afternoon and since it was the 5th day of Ganpati Visarjan, the lady got a bit late and arrived by 2.40 which she called and informed me about. I liked the fact that I was kept informed about reaching late.

I tried the Anti-tan chocolate wax for my full arms and legs. I have tried the White Chocolate Rica wax before at Lakme Salon just before my wedding and had a very good experience with that, so I was expecting similar results. Here, the attendant was using Biosoft Chocolate Wax. It comes with pre gel and post wax lemon oil, she forgot to use the pre gel and I was informed about it later when I was called for feedback. I do have sensitive skin, especially on my arms and I had informed them before as all waxes don’t work for me. The lady while booking the appointment told me a patch test would be done and then we would proceed with the complete waxing. We started with the legs first and I don’t have an issue with the legs since the skin on the legs is usually thicker and not that sensitive.

After the waxing on my arms, I got a lot of red bumps on my entire arms and the lemon oil did not help in reducing them. My mom applied lots of ice and it was a little better but the bumps stayed for around 3 days and the skin was quite itchy too. I only get my waxing done at a particular salon where I do not get any reaction or bumps as they use a lot of astringent to close the pores. I did mention this to the attendant too hoping she would use astringent but I don’t think she was carrying anything apart from the post wax lemon oil. The lemon oil only helps in reducing the stickiness from the wax but does not do anything to close the pores.

She also asked me if I had to thread my eyebrows and since I had not got my eyebrows done since a month, I was like ok. I am very finicky about my eyebrows and I only get my extras removed as I like and prefer my thick eyebrows. I mentioned that to the attendant about 4-5 times and even while she was doing the eyebrows, but still my eyebrows from one part were made a bit thinner. I was not very happy but since it was not drastically thin, it was not looking bad.

Later on I tried the anti – tan manicure and pedicure. She had brought the pedicure tub along and all the creams, scrubs and masks that come in separate sachets i.e. the entire kit. She simultaneously did both the hands and legs and it took about a little more than an hour for both. The tan had actually reduced and my feet were looking much better. I only thought the procedure could have been a little more extensive, coz I had tried similar services with another beauty service provider where two separate persons were doing the mani- pedi and it took them a total of 3 hours! They were doing it in a more detailed way taking time on each step.

Maybelline Colorshow Molten Maroon

I went with the Maybelline ColorShow Nail Paint in Molten Maroon since it was a perfect fall color, sadly the nail paint chipped in 3 days even after two coats. Also, it has stained my nails very badly and I am trying to get rid of the stain right now. It is not the attendant’s fault of course, but I would have liked if she would have used a base coat and a top coat. Since it is a deep color, base coat would have prevented staining and a top coat would have helped the nail paint stay longer.

Also the prices for manicure and pedicure are almost the same, when usually pedicure is a little more detailed and slightly higher priced.

Prices:

De-tan full arms waxing: Rs.469

De- tan full Legs waxing: Rs.563

Anti tan Manicure: Rs.625

Anti tan Pedicure: Rs. 688

Overall I would say The Home Salon is very economically priced and offers all the beauty services at your door step, I do recommend checking them out. Only if you have sensitive skin, inform them about it and that you would need a lot of astringent. You can skip the eyebrows though if you are not comfortable. The manicure and pedicure were pretty decent too for the price, only if you need something much more detailed, then this is not for you.

Check out their services or book an appointment at www.thehomesalon.in, they are also available on apps on your Play Store.

Have you tried The Home Salon or something similar yet?

P.S: Services were offered in exchange for a honest review.

The Importance of Diwali

The Importance of Diwali

Hi guys,

I know this is off topic but Diwali is coming soon and I realized that Diwali for us somehow has lost its charm, especially for me. It is not the same as before, the fun we had when we were kids.

My memories of Diwali have been buying different colors for rangoli, a stencil, selecting a design from the book and all the preparation of making a brown base and then making a rangoli which took 2-3 hours. Decorating the whole house with lights and diyas, spending those 3-4 days with the entire family, the Diwali Pooja, dadi teaching us how to make kajal using ghee and an earthen pot on Kaali Chaudas, the lunch I had with my brother on Bhai Dooj, the Laxmi Pooja on Diwali and lighting some phooljadis for shagan (I had stopped using the loud crackers long back after seeing the pollution and the streets filled with remnants and how scared the dogs would be)

And then finally on the last day of ‘New Year’, going to every friend and family member’s place to wish them Happy New Year and they coming at our place.

But now, things have changed so drastically, people look forward to relaxing those 3 days of holidays. Forget going to each other’s place to wish New Year, there are no phone calls too and we end up wishing everyone on Whatsapp. There is no time for rangolis, we hardly spend time with families and lights are just for name sake to show Diwali.

I saw this video recently where this old grandfather was missing his grandchild and how he used to spend Diwali with her. And guess what, the dadu gets the best surprise of his life. What do you think the surprise is? Yes, she probably is coming to meet him this Diwali!

Perfectly timed, Lufthansa has unveiled its #DiwaliSurprise campaign which gives you an opportunity to fly to the one you love! It also gives you an opportunity to help brighten a child’s life by just registering your wish – so awesome! 😀

Fly away to be with the one you love – your friend and you could both win a ticket with your Diwali wish and also your wish will add Diwali lights to illuminate a Lufthansa plane – a digital marvel to behold on the Festival of Lights!

So click HERE and send your wishes quickly to your loved ones this Diwali 🙂

Current Fashion Trends 2015

 Current Fashion Trends 2015

Hi guys,

Today I am talking about some of the current fashion trends. The time period currently between fall and summer is like a mixed one, there are certain summer trends that are still going strong like the Boho dresses and Maxi dresses and there are certain fall/winter trends that are also seen quite a lot already like the Plaid and leather jackets.

For e.g.: Alice Olivia

In denims, it is both the Skinny and the Flared that are doing rounds.

Sports bra or bra tops are also still IN.

In bags, it is the Saddle Bag and the Messenger Bags.

Shoe wise, you can already see a lot of boots, but there are tied up stilettos, etc. also still IN. I love these Stuart Weitzman ones.

So currently it is like a mix of both summer and fall/winter as the fall is just starting yet. I am loving the boho and off shoulder dresses a lot too. Of course here in India, it is mostly the summer trends only throughout especially in Mumbai.

What comes in fall/winter here are just light shrugs or light layering.

What is your favourite current fashion trend?

The Start – Up Life

The Start – Up Life

Hi guys,

No, I haven’t started any start – up yet :p This post is about the problems faced by start – ups and entrepreneurs all around the world, especially in their day to day life.

Startups get a lot of press. They have to overcome several challenges to taste success. Like they say, “Ek aag ka dariya hai, aur doob ke jaana hai” (You have to swim through fire to get to your destination).
Well, I am not the stero-typical startup founder, hell bent on solving a billion dollar problem or evangelising whatever comes my way. But there is one thing, which overlaps with startups to a large extent – Entrepreneurship from scratch. In fact, rather than the websites or mobile apps they build, it is the rags to riches story which is more important to learn from.
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and leaving a cozy job with a private coaching classes, I took the plunge couple of years back to be a full time blogger. Sharing my 0.02$ on the problems I encountered along the way;
a) Aap ki beti karti kya hai?
It is the most difficult thing in the world to explain your Baroda wali masi what “Blogging” is all about. Forget talking about monetisation, sponsored content, social media, followers, etc etc. I have a very convenient solution for this – I am practicing as a Chartered Accountant (This is the bare minimum use of my 5 years of hard work for completing CA)
b) $$$$$$
Ok. So now you have developed a loyal visitor base. Google knows that you know some cool stuff about beauty, makeup, etc. But how do you monetise all of that? Ad sense is going down the drain since quite some time now. And then you start getting these nightmares. Did I screw up by choosing to come out of my comfort zone? Should I go back to the 9 to 5 job and a stable income?
c) Peer pressure
Facebook updates, LinkedIn updates. Someone just got promoted to a manager. Someone has shifted to Dubai. Someone is out on a foreign business trip. Wow. People from my batch are doing awesome in life. They are earning 7 figure salaries. And how much am I earning? Shit. I am not even close. <Panic mode>
And the list goes on and on…..
But at the end of the day, all said & done, Entrepreneurship is the most satisfying thing ever. To quote Liquid guru from Pyar ka Punchnama, “Kutto ka koi Sunday nahi hota, Kutte Har Din Kutte hi hote hai”.
Entrepreneuship gives you the freedom, flexibility & potential, way more than a 16th century Bell Curve policy determined 7% increment and a rigid corporate structure ever will. :p
Here is a fun video that shows some start- up problems made by www.vistaprint.in

As you saw, the CEO himself is the assistant, secretary, peon, etc. all in one. From the lunch buffet and high tea at five star hotels to the vada pav and cutting chai, the transition is very difficult!

Are you a part of the start – up life? What problems do you face daily?
P.S: I am loving the TVF Pitchers and desperately waiting for the final 5th episode which will be live this Sunday, have you seen it yet?

August 2015 My Envy Box Review & Discount Coupon

August 2015 My Envy Box Review & Discount Coupon

Hi guys,

Time for the beauty boxes of this month. Today I am unboxing and reviewing the July My Envy Box, I have also created a video for the same, so do check that out.

Read more about My Envy Box HERE and check out all the previous reviews HERE.

MRP: Rs.850/- (Available HERE)

This month’s packaging is different, the theme is ‘India Mon Amour‘ (which means ‘India My Love’ in French) and all the products are natural, herbal and organic. It is an oxblood red box with golden design on top depicting ancient India figures. August box is all about skin care and fragrance this month and something for the eyes.

It also has a separate card this time, apart from the product card, which has 5 ayurvedic skin care tips.

Forest Essentials details are missing and the 5th skin care tip is mentioned, a little goof up

Contents of my box:

  • Hedonista Oudh Frozen Ittar- Full size (Rs.1045/- for 20g)
  • Soultree Ayurvedic Kajal Pure Black- Full size (Rs.350/- for 3g)
  • Suganda Neem Green Tea Mask- Full size (Rs.900/- for 60g)
  • Forest Essentials Iced Pomegranate & Kerala Lime Body Mist- 50ml (Full size Rs.1475/- for 100ml)

I think by now you are convinced why this is the BEST MY ENVY BOX till date?! Well, the value of the four products in this box is Rs.3032/- and you are getting the box for Rs.850/- (Rs.722 using the below discount code :D)

Also coming to the products, I love everything in this box. The Hedonista Frozen Ittar is all natural and organic made with coconut oil and pure ittar. It is so convenient to carry and comes in this small jar. You need just a teeny weeny bit and the smell lasts for 7-8 hours minimum!!

I have got 2-3 small pimples and it is actually the perfect time to try out this Suganda Neem Green Tea Mask. It is in powder form and you can mix it with rose water or normal water and just apply it and wash off. I can’t wait to try this, have liked Suganda products untill now.

I wanted to try the Forest Essentials Iced Pomegranate & Kerala Lime Body Mist since a long time and I got it in this month’s box! Yay 😀 I absolutely love the smell and it is the best body mist I have tried, it just absorbs into the skin and leaves behind a refreshing smell. I have tried body mists from Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret too, but nothing beats this Forest Essentials one!

Coming to the Soultree Kajal, I already have 2-3 of these including one colored. I find the colored ones a bit dry in texture and these black ones are nice but as usual smudge a lot. So not too keen on the Soultree Kajal, but a full sized product is always good.

The 4th product is an option between Forest Essentials Body Mist & SkinYoga scrub, now I would have liked both 😀 But anyway, not being greedy, I am in love with this month’s My Envy Box. There have never been 3 full sized products and one deluxe sized (which is actually HALF) sample ever any of their boxes.

Book you August My Envy Box now, you are getting much more than your value for money.

Buy the box HERE, also you can use the coupon code ‘NEWLOVEMAKEUP‘ during checkout to get extra 15% off, which would bring down the cost of the box to Rs.722/-! I love you too :p

Did you like the August My Envy Box? You got Forest Essentials or Skin Yoga as 4th one? Do let me know in the comments below.
