Four Yummy Homemade Body Scrubs

Four Yummy Homemade Body Scrubs
Many ingredients from your kitchen can be used to make yummy-smelling face, body, and foot scrubs at home. Start with a skin-friendly exfoliant, such as oatmeal, cornmeal, sugar, or salt. Then choose a moisturizing, binding ingredient. I recommend honey and avocado, which are non irritating emollients, for the face. Olive or coconut oil will work well on the body and feet, especially on dry, scaly, or flaky skin.

However, if you tend to get breakouts on your chest or back, skip the oils and stick with honey or yogurt.

You can add other ingredients as well, such as fresh citrus juice (which acts as an astringent) or cucumber (which soothes skin). For a more aromatic scrub, add some fresh herbs or a few drops of skin-friendly essential oils. I love dessert, so I like cinnamon or vanilla in my scrubs — if you’re a chocoholic, try adding cocoa!

Below are a few recipes to get you started on your own scrubs:

Simple Cinnamon-Vanilla-Oatmeal Facial Scrub
1/4 cup oatmeal
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons honey
1 tablespoon plain yogurt

Cornmeal-Citrus Facial Scrub
1/4 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon fresh-squeezed citrus juice (lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit)
2 teaspoons honey
1 drop ylang-ylang essential oil (optional)
1 drop ginger essential oil (optional)

Avocado-Strawberry-Sugar Body Scrub
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup mashed avocado
1/4 cup mashed strawberry
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup minced fresh basil
1 drop rose essential oil (optional)

Rosemary, Mint & Salt Foot Scrub
1 cup coarse sea salt
5 tablespoons olive oil
3 sprigs fresh rosemary (remove leaves from stalk)
1 cup minced fresh mint
3 drops peppermint essential oil (optional)

Mix ingredients together and gently scrub your face, body, or feet. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Don’t they all sound so good enough to eat ! Yumm…the warm vanilla cinnamon..

Additionally you can scoop out a papaya or mango (or avocado) and save the fruit to eat later. Rub the inside surface of the skin all over your face and arms. The antioxidants and fruit enzymes will help soften your skin.

When In Doubt, Throw It Out: Makeup Has Expiration Dates

When In Doubt, Throw It Out: Makeup Has Expiration Dates
Guest Post
You know that perfect shade of lipstick you bought two years ago on vacation in Paris? The one that you save for special occasions? It may pack more of a punch than you realize. Old cosmetics present a major risk of infection. The risk is even worse if you share cosmetics or if you can’t resist trying out the latest shades at your local department store makeup counter. Although it may be difficult to part with some of your favorite cosmetics, your health may be at risk if you continue to use them.

Eye Makeup

Eye makeup holds the greatest potential for infection and has the shortest shelf life of all cosmetics. Some dermatologists recommend replacing eye makeup after only three months. Liquids and creams, especially mascara, can potentially cause serious eye infections. Styes – inflamed oil glands at the edge of the eyelid – along with itchy, red eyelids and swelling around the eyes are some of the less serious potential problems that can occur with eye makeup that has passed its safe shelf life date. Contact lens wearers are at special risk of infection from using contaminated eye makeup.

Natural Cosmetics

So called natural cosmetics often have a shorter shelf life than conventionally manufactured cosmetics. This is because many natural cosmetics are plant-based, which makes them especially susceptible to bacteria. An oatmeal bath soap soak is not nearly so relaxing when you discover you’re sharing your tub with mealworms that have been feasting off the soap you’re using.

Creams and Lotions

Many dermatologists advise that creams and lotions begin to go bad after about six to twelve months. If lotions and creams are in pump bottles, they may remain good longer because you’re less likely to dip your finger into the bottle. However, moisturizers in jars that you apply with your hands may be ready for the trash bin after six months, because every time you dip your hand into the cream, you’re potentially contaminating it.

Powders and Lip Colors

Powder makeup and lipstick in a barrel may be safe to use for about twelve to eighteen months. Lip gloss may also be good for about eighteen months. However, if you’ve used your hands to apply the cosmetics, that will shorten the shelf life.

Preventing Infection

Besides discarding old cosmetics, keeping cosmetics clean and away from water will help ensure that they are safe to use. Never share cosmetics with anyone. Your BFF may be like a sister, but you don’t want to pick up a cold sore on your lip from trying out her hot new lipstick shade. Trying out sample cosmetics at department stores is also a risky bet. If you must sample a new shade, do so with a clean cotton swab, not your hand.

Be especially careful with eye makeup. Do not apply eyeliner on your inner eyelids. If your mascara dries out, toss it. Don’t attempt to extend its usefulness by running it under the tap to rewet the brush. Resist the temptation to make your lipstick or blush do double duty as eye shadow. Even though you’re using it on your own face, bacteria from your cheek or lip may cause an infection through a small tear in your eyelid.

Beauty Tips for Gorgeous Hair

Beauty Tips for Gorgeous HairGuest Post

If you dream of having beautiful, silky hair, then read on for expert advice and tips.

In winter, it’s easy for hair to become dry and dull. With constant heat from indoor heating, hot showers, styling tools and blow dryers, these things can take a massive tool on your hair and leave it thirsting for a nice, long drink. Investing in a top-quality conditioner will help your hair to beat the winter blues. Look for a rich conditioner that contains natural oils such as sunflower or coconut oils. After washing your hair, instead of directly applying conditioner, towel dry your hair. Getting excess water out of your hair before applying conditioner is very important in order to allow your hair to fully drink in the benefits of the conditioner.

When applying conditioner to wet hair, the excess water can block the absorption of nutrients and moisturizers within the conditioner. Apply the conditioner in the shower (after towel-drying your hair) and leave on for two to three minutes before rinsing out. For a more intensive conditioning treatment, apply conditioner after you have stepped out of the shower and towel dried your hair. Leave the conditioner on for an hour or overnight. There are many excellent deep and overnight conditioners on the market.

Organic cold-pressed coconut oil always works as a wonderfully rich and emollient conditioner for the hair. It can be applied to dry ends overnight. You will wake up with moisturized, shiny hair. Other excellent oils for the hair include argan and jojoba oils.

To keep split ends at bay, it’s important to make an appointment with your hair stylist for regular trims. Going to the salon every six to eight weeks should keep split ends away. When split ends are left untouched, the hair shaft can actually keep splitting higher, which can result in very unhealthy and frizzy-looking hair.

Avoid using at home color, as they can strip your hair and contain metallic dyes. It’s best to leave coloring up to a professional who knows their way around color. Boxed color which can be bought at drugstores may seem tempting when you feel like you’re in a hair rut and need a quick change, but these products are best avoided because they can damage your hair and if you find yourself in a sticky situation where the color does not turn out the way you visualized, you probably won’t have a clue as to how to fix it. This can mean having to wait until your stylist can fit you into her schedules — so you may be left having to walk around with a disaster on your head for a few days.

Avoid the overuse of hair dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. Heat tools can take a toll on your hair and leave it damaged, dry and brittle. Heat tools should be used sparingly.

Try washing your hair every other day instead of every day. Washing your hair every day is not only a waste of product, but this will dry your hair out quicker than anything else.

MRP: Rs.640/- for 200ml, Rs.200/- for 50ml

As you read above, it is completely free of all chemicals..and it totally natural.. Omved Brahmi & Peppermint Shampoo comes in a long pump bottle..its a runny liquid with a brown tint..smells soo strongly of peppermint..like ‘polo’ !

Brahmi and Peppermint are supposed to be very good for the hair..brahmi strengthens the hair and peppermint helps in circulation as mentioned above..

At first, it needs a lot of qty to completely cleanse the hair..also coz its SLS free..and so does not foam much too..cleansed hair well, helps in frizz and also gives a smoother sleeker look to hair..but if you looking for volume or bounce, then this would not help..also it did not help in dryness and conditioner was needed after this..

This is a 50ml bottle..which lasted some 6-7 uses..so it definitely is quite expensive..

Pros:

1. Cleanses scalp well.
2. Helped in frizz and made hair straighter, sleeker.
3. Lovee the peppermint smell.
4. Has no chemicals and parabens and all natural.
5. Pump packaging is convenient.

Cons:

1. Expensive !
2. Needs a lot of qty to foam and clean the scalp.
3. Will not give volume.

Overall its a nice shampoo..and if you like straighter hair..and not a fan of volume, you can give this a try..also if you love peppermint smell..its available HERE at natural mantra.

I would recommend checking out NaturalMantra.com for other paraben and SLS free options..there is  Soultree, Omved, Rustic Art, Just Herbs, Auravedic, Tvam, Neev, etc for shampoos or other bath and body products..more so for baby products too..you do not want to use all those chemicals on your baby for sure..also they have Stevia…which I am ordering soon..a natural sugar substitute..if you are on a diet, a diabetic or just want to avoid sugar but cannot give your tea or coffee a miss, you should try Stevia !

Makeup Tips For Teenagers

Makeup Tips For Teenagers
Guest Post

Use the right makeup products

The most important tip to look good for teenagers in a long run is to select right kind of products for makeup application. Teenager’s skin is subtle and soft; hence using any wrong makeup product could permanently damage their skin. Consider makeup products, which are made up of natural ingredients rather the ones using toxic chemicals. A majority of makeup products contains harmful chemicals; hence you are supposed to check the ingredients before buying them to apply over your skin. Though the chemical based makeup products could make you beautiful instantly, but they have a number of long term repercussions over your skin. They can damage as you reach in your thirties.

Your skin

Before your makeup, the skin has to be cleansed using a cleanser as per your skin type. After applying the cleaner, make sure you thoroughly wash your face and neck. Also, avoid rubbing too hard, rather do it gently in a circular motion and rinse properly followed by cleaning with dry and clean towel. Your makeup starts with a foundation. Though many teenagers do not need foundation, they can use a tinted moisturiser to even out the skin tone or simply cover the blemishes. While applying TM, make sure you do it with easy hand using a flat top kabuki brush or just sanitized fingers instead of trying the powder puff.

The eyes

For this, you need to start with your eye brows. Since they simply frame your entire face, hence you need to keep them neat. In order to give eye brows a right shape, make sure they are threaded properly according to your face shape. This will help you in keeping a perfect look using a pair of tweezers and mirror. Now, curl your eyelashes before you actually apply anything for your eye makeup. The eye make has several options; however, for teenagers it is fun to try some shimmery kinds of eye shadows as they will give a good look. The right way to apply them is to use a minimal quantity of eye shadow and properly blend over your eye crease and gradually build it up.

It is better to use eyeliner over the top lid very close to the lash line. This should follow the use of a cotton swab or try using a good eye shadow brush and then apply the color over your lashes. For the lower lashes, simply apply the dots of eyeliner in between the lashes followed by blending it properly.

For cheeks and lips

For cheeks, you could try some gel blush or any suitable cream. The Pinks are the best option for teenagers, while you could even try rosy pink for darker choice. All you need to do is to put the blush over the cheeks’ apples followed by blending properly. For the lips, the best option for teenagers is to try is a gloss as it gives you the best shine. Avoid using heavy lipsticks and the lip liners since they are too heavy for teenagers to try and could even give an older look.

Final word

During the teens, the girls simply want to look hot and beautiful. Using the above top tips, you could certainly enhance your beauty. However, if you still want to try something more, you could consult beauty professionals to look cool and beautiful. Enjoy being beautiful with the above top tips for teenagers.

Everyday Tips for Growing Long, Healthy Hair

Everyday Tips for Growing Long, Healthy Hair
Some everyday tips which we at times ignore, and that does affect our mane.

Do not over-wash your hair

Many think that they should be washing their hair every day, when, in fact, every other day is best for your hair. Otherwise, you risk stripping your precious strands of the vital natural oils that they need to keep their moisture and strength. If you want to get rid of greasiness between washings, consider purchasing a dry shampoo. On the days you do a complete wash, Use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner that is formulated to build strength and restore moisture. It is important not to compromise quality for price when it comes to conditioner, because it really does make a difference.

Use a leave-in conditioner

It can be very beneficial when you are trying to grow long hair. It adds a layer of protection you your locks, and makes combing wet hair effortless. This reduces hair breakage significantly, which leads to healthier and longer hair. One leave-in conditioner that works really well is “Let It Be” leave-in conditioner by TIGI.

Avoid heat styling

If you feel like you must heat style, use a heat tamer or heat shield product. It is also important to use blow driers, curling irons, and straighteners at the lowest heat setting possible for the effect you are trying to achieve, and never apply heat for an extended amount of time to one particular part of your hair. When purchasing your heat styling tools, it is better to purchase brand-name products. They may cost a little more, but many of them have unique designs intended to cause less damage to the hair than their cheaper counterparts.

Protect your hair from your surroundings

Your everyday environment can be one of your hair’s worst enemies. Things like extreme cold, wind, humidity, and pollution can all lead to broken, brittle, and damaged hair. Take precautions like wearing a hat if you plan on spending the day in the sun, and always make sure your hair is completely dry before going out in cold weather. There are a variety of different treatments that are made to protect hair from these stresses, and also many to repair damage that has already been done. Products containing keratin have been found to be very beneficial in protecting and treating damaged hair, and many believe Moroccan oil is even better. Another time that hair is subjected to stress is while you are sleeping. Tossing and turning on the pillow can cause friction that leads to hair breakage. It is a good idea to use a satin pillow case, and if your hair is very long, secure it into a loose braid or consider wearing a hair net to bed.

Do NOT brush your hair when wet

Brush your hair with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. When hair is wet, it is very elastic and easily causes breakage.

Get rid of the split ends

You may want to visit your local salon if you have any split ends. Do this about every six to eight weeks. Doing so will make your hair appear much healthier.

Brush your hair and/or stimulate your scalp

Stimulating blood flow to your scalp is another proven way to speed up the growth process as well. Massage your scalp while conditioning for 2-5 minutes. However, take care to brush your hair with soft bristles and not to brush too often. Brushing your hair stimulates the scalp, but it also can cause breakage and will pull healthy hair from your head, making your hair look thinner.

Dressed in a lovely pink lehenga by Rocky S, Esha looked resplendent at the event. Make-up, jewellery, hair were perfectly done keeping subtlety in mind.

3. Kareena Kapoor:

For her D-day Kareena, wore a green punjabi suit, while Saif chose to dress up in a grey kurta-pyjama since they had a simple registered marriage, for the nikaah ceremony she wore her mom in law Sharmila’s old red gharara..restored by Manish Malhotra..and for the reception or Dawaat E Waalima she again wore a Manish Malhotra “old-world” pink gharara

4. Lara Dutta:

Lara picked a gown by Lebanese-born Elie Saab for her wedding which took place in Christian style. Her gown also had a lot of lace, silk taffeta, and organza and a neckline studded with gemstones. What more!

5. Lisa Ray:

Recently married Lisa wore a crystal-encrusted gown by close friend and designer Wendell Rodricks, while for the reception she was seen in an exquisite custom-made Satya Paul sari. That sari sure is gorgeous..georgette sari highlighted with beige and traditional ‘gota patti’ work !!
6. Shilpa Shetty:
Shilpa looked stunning in the shimmering golden coloured dress, designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Complementing her dress was the jewellery which she picked from Anmol jewels.
7. Genelia:
Genelia wore a red lehenga-choli ensemble and net dupatta heavily decorated with golden embroidery and sequins, exuding classic elegance. The red and gold stunning lehenga was designed by Shane and Falguni Peacock. The fitted choli and flairs of the lehenga suited her slim figure.
I loved Lisa Ray’s Satya Paul sari and Genelia’s Lehenga Choli..
