Benefits of Using a Wooden Comb & Joy by Nature Neem Wooden Comb Review

Benefits of Using a Wooden Comb & Joy by Nature Neem Wooden Comb Review

Benefits of Using a Wooden Comb & Joy by Nature Neem Wooden Comb Review

By Nidhal

For some strange reason I always had a fixation for lustrous hair that is, hair that flows as the wind caresses it, remains tangle-free and adorns one’s curves like an ornament! Stroking one’s fingers down such locks is a ‘thing of beauty’ to borrow Joh Keats. While we have countless weapons at hand to get such gorgeous locks, yet one weapon that I was long oblivious of was a ‘wooden comb’.

One day, I stumbled upon the virtues of using a wooden comb and thrilled by the same, I placed an order for one on Amazon. It was none other than Joy by Nature Neem Wooden Comb for Women. Needless to say, here is my review of the same.

PRICE- 125/- INR for each comb (Rs.85 on Amazon HERE)

DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Use like a normal comb except when your hair is wet/semi-dry. NEVER use a wooden comb on hair drenched in water.

INGREDIENTS- Made up of wood

WHAT IT CLAIMS- Joybynature wooden pocket combs are made from natural neem wood that has been used since olden days in hair care. Neem bark, leaves, fruits, twigs, flowers are all used in medicinal preparation and are also part of new age products including combs, hair oils, tooth paste, moth balls, disinfectant and skin ointments. It is rightly given the name in Sanskrit as ‘Sarva Roga Nivarani’ in other words ‘Cure for all ailments’.The Joybynature wooden pocket combs are made from this powerful neem wood and designed aesthetically to suit the requirements of today’s generation while matching with the requirements for proper hair care.

Joybynature.com delivers goodness and joy from nature to your home. With over 10,000 Authentic Certified Natural/Organic products, Joybynature.com is the global hub of nature-led well-being.

MY EXPERIENCE-

Packed in a simple (and highly flimsy) plastic pack, this wooden comb screams for a better packaging! Once taken out from the package, you need to find a place/case for the comb to be stored. That aside, I have been using this comb for over two months and it’s worth mentioning that it works wonders to tame frizz and impart softness.

Wooden combs are supposed to have rounded teeth (as compared to regular plastic combs with pointed teeth) that avert hair from developing frizz. Since frizz is taken care of, expecting hair to be softened is natural and that’s what happens.

My hair is dry and within a period of two months of usage, I can assert that it has managed to soften my locks very well. On the downside, the comb is prone to breakage. The dark brown part that you see in the picture has been stuck to the main comb and it is prone to separation. In fact, it would be surprising if it lasts for even two months. Cleaning the comb is another cumbersome affair as you cannot use water on it (it’s wooden after all). So, I clean it by using a cotton swab soused in coconut oil. Moreover, I clean it once in every 3-4 days.

In a nutshell, it benefits your mane only if used regularly and cautiously. It comes with its fair share of “dos and don’ts” when it comes to usage so, weigh them beforehand.

Here are some of the benefits of using wooden comb over plastic combs-

1. Controls and prevents frizz

2. Adds shine and softness

3. Stimulates the scalp thus, accelerating hair growth

4. Boosts blood circulation of the scalp

5. Spreads the natural oils in our tresses uniformly

GOOD-

1. Rounded teeth of the comb ensure that my scalp as well as hair’s follicles aren’t roughened

2. Tames frizz overtime

3. Price is reasonable

4. Readily available (I bought it on Amazon India)

5. Made up of wood

6. Softens hair overtime (personal experience corroborates it)

BAD-

1. Packaging needs improvement. By parting with 125/- INR, a simple flimsy plastic package is what the comb comes packed in.

2. The comb is prone to breakage

3. Cleaning the comb is an arduous affair.

4. Size is small (it’s a pocket comb)

RATING- 3/5

Editor’s Note: This definitely does sound like worth trying, or maybe I will try to find more options. But looking forward to trying a wooden comb

How to cover grey hair at home | BBLUNT Salon Secret High Shine Crème Hair Colour Review

How to cover grey hair at home | BBLUNT Salon Secret High Shine Crème Hair Colour Review

Hi guys,

As most of you know by now, BBLUNT has launched another new product in the hair-colour category and that is the BBLUNT Salon Secret High Shine Crème Hair Colour.

I was sent the hair colour to test out and since I don’t colour my hair, I tried this on my mom to see the results. Does it deliver what it claims? Read on.

Claims: BBLUNT‘s Salon Secret High Shine Crème Hair Colour, is a 3-part hair colour that gives you salon like gorgeous hair at home. Packed in this box is our salon’s secret to dazzling hair colour.

Simply mix the luxuriously creamy Colourant and Developer together in equal proportions and add the Shine Tonic. Now mix till smooth for a fragrant, non-drip blend. Apply and Voila! You’re only 30 minutes away from epic, shiny hair! This no ammonia hair colour gives 100% grey coverage that lasts upto 8 weeks long.

SHINE TONIC.  Enriched with Silk Proteins, this special tonic is what your regular hair colour had been missing for so long.

MRP: Rs.199/-

Product Features:

  • 3-part colour hair colour with a unique Shine Tonic that gives you salon like gorgeous hair at home
  • Contains no ammonia
  • The rich colour provides 100% grey coverage
  • Enriched with Silk Proteins, the colour makes your hair smooth after colouring
  • Available in 7 colour shades

o Black – NATURAL BLACK 1

o Chocolate – DARK BROWN 3

o Blueberry – BLUE BLACK 2.10

o Honey – LIGHT GOLDEN BROWN 5.32

o Wine – DEEP BURGUNDY 4.20

o Mahogany – REDDISH BROWN 4.56

o Coffee – NATURAL BROWN 4.31

Ingredients:

The product’s USP is its Shine tonic – no other brand offers additional shine like BBLUNT, it’s a 1 st in the country.

– Grey coverage + global colour
– No ammonia – minimum damage

It comes in colour co-ordinated boxes as per the shades. Contents include the colour, developer and shine tonic plus a set of gloves and an instruction leaflet.

My mom has medium length hair and I thought I would need two boxes but the quantity is pretty good and one box was more than enough for her hair. But if you have medium-long length hair, you might need to go for two boxes. We opted for Chocolate – Dark Brown for my mom.

Read the instructions manual well, follow the directions, do a patch test at first if you have sensitive skin and remove any colour from the skin immediately, if applied accidentally.

All you need to do is mix the colour, developer and shine tonic together, the entire tubes, mixing them really well. For an all over colour, empty the complete tubes. For only root touch-ups, use 25 gm of Colourant and Developer and 4 ml of Shine Tonic, conveniently marked on the tubes.

And apply the colour immediately. Make sure you cover the roots, area behind the ears and all the inaccessible areas.

Let is sit for 30 minutes for the colour to develop (45 minutes for the Burgundy shade). After the 30 minutes are done, before washing add a little water to your hair and emulsify for 5 minutes. Then rinse until the water runs clear. Shampoo and condition as usual, preferably with any set of BBLUNT shampoo and conditioner as they are all colour protectant.

Here are the Before-After pictures..

I absolutely loved how each and every strand and root was well covered. The colour was very natural looking. Hair was softer and shinier, the unique shine tonic definitely worked! My mom has very dry hair and hence it is easy to feel and notice the difference, her hair is now softer and smoother with a visible shine.

It is easy to use at home, ammonia free, comes in 7 colour shades, plus gives a very natural result covering 100% grey hair really well! The shine tonic is an added bonus. I definitely recommend BBLUNT Salon Secret High Shine Crème Hair Colour, at Rs.199/- it is very economical for the result it gives!

Dr Batra’s Hair Oil Enriched With Jojoba Review

Dr Batra’s Hair Oil Enriched With Jojoba Review

By Pallavi

Hii Lovelies,

Hair oils are my absolute favorite. You might think that I am blessed with really great hair. But no I am not. I don’t have great hair but I always keep working on them in order to have great hair like Bhumika. You know sometimes you are blessed with great hair and sometimes you have to really work hard to get that. Similar is the case with me too. I have been pampering my hair with hair oil and hair masks even DIY hair masks since ages. During my hair care journey I have tried a number of hair oils. But I have never tried anything from the house of Dr. Batra. And we all are well aware of the hair care products of Dr. Batra especially their hair fall products. So, one day when I saw this hair oil at my nearest store then I bought this one without giving any second thoughts and thus here follows the review of the same.

Price : INR 175 for 200 ml (Buy HERE)

Directions to use : Tilt the bottle sideways and take some oil in your palm. Rub your palms to warm the oil and apply it on your scalp by lightly massaging the oil all over your scalp and covering the hair ends too. For best results, use along with Dr Batra’s shampoo.

Ingredients:

What it Claims : Dr Batra’s – Jojoba Hair Oil Jojoba’s excellent moisturizing property restores the texture, glow & luster of hair naturally. Dr Batra’s hair oil enriched with jojoba extracts, prevents tangles, dryness, brittleness and even split ends.

My View:

Dr. Batra Hair oil comes in a medium sized plastic bottle packaging. The bottle is really light weight and easy to carry with. The packaging has the product related information and other claims mentioned on the packaging itself which is really informative for all the consumers. The bottle has a small hole at the top through which the oil comes out.

This oil from the house of Dr. Batra is infused with jojoba oil which is really beneficial for your hair. It is incredibly lightweight and does not feel sticky or heavy on your hair. It spread easily and has a very soothing calming effect not only on hair but also on the nervous system. This oil is also very light in weight and spreads very easily on hair. It nourishes the hair cuticles without a feeling of sticky or heavy. The oil has a very mild and soothing smell of jojoba oil which is not at all strong and I am sure won’t bother sensitive noses.

Since the oil is so lightweight, you can easily apply it overnight and then wash off your hair in the morning. You hair won’t feel the normal chip-chip of any usual hair oil. And once you wash your hair you can still feel the bounce and the healthy feeling of your hair. Also, this oil is meant to take care of any scalp infections or irritations if any. Thus usage of will ensure that your scalp remain free of any kind of scalp infections and thus promotes the healthy growth of your hair.

You require a very little amount of hair oil and thus a single bottle will last you for months. A single 100 ml. Bottle lasted me for 2 months. So, that way it is good economical hair oil.

Good about Dr Batra’s Hair Oil Enriched With Jojoba

1. Good packaging

2. Huge quantity

3. Makes hair soft and bouncy

4. No sticky or heavy feeling on hair

5. Single bottle lasts long

6. No hair fall witnessed

Bad about Dr Batra’s Hair Oil Enriched With Jojoba

1. Sensitive noses can be bothered by the smell

Rating –

Packaging – 4.5/5

Texture – 5/5

Effects – 4.5/5

Overall – 4.8/5

Editor’s Note: This sounds really interesting.

Wella EIMI Style Range Root Shoot, Dry Me, Perfect Me Review

Wella EIMI Style Range Root Shoot, Dry Me, Perfect Me Review

Hi guys,

Wella has introduced few new products in their EIMI Styling Range and I have been trying them since the past few days, here are my thoughts on it.

About the Wella EIMI Range: The EIMI range has a product to suit everyone’s individual style, whether they desire a volumizing boost, wild textures, dazzling shine or a smooth and silky finish. Expressing individuality has never seen so easy.  Individual style seekers can pick from 31 styling essentials including four new exciting products to create the style the best suits them – whether they want wild texture, dazzling shine, a volume boost or a smooth and sleek finish.

I love the matte grey and white cap packaging, with the EIMI written with different color on each product. The best part about this entire range is the fragrance, it smells absolutely amazing!!

NEW & HERO Dry Me dry shampoo for creating head turning volume and matte texture for any individual style. Those wanting to create some head turning volume and matte texture can try Dry Me, the new revolutionary dry shampoo.

HOLD LEVEL 2
Create volume and a manageable matte texture to achieve your look. Refresh your hair and absorb oil with this formula with Tapioca starch.

HOW TO USE:  Shake me, spray me, style me. Apply evenly on dry hair, leave in and brush through.

MRP: Rs.900/- for 180ml

It’s a normal, tall spray bottle and is very easy to use. It does not leave too much of white powder residue on the scalp unlike other dry shampoos. It creates an immediate bounce and volume. I am so in love with the way it smells.

I am very lazy when it comes to washing hair and dry shampoos are a staple for me. I have tried 6-7 different brands of dry shampoos and I can easily say, this is by far the best dry shampoo I have tried!

NEW & HERO Root Shot means you are just one shot away from high precision, weightless root lift.

HOLD LEVEL 2
Perfect root lift is only a shot away with this mousse designed for precision application.

HOW TO USE: Shake, shoot, volumise. Apply on damp hair directly on the roots and blow dry as you wish.

MRP: Rs.900/- for 200ml

If your hair is straight & flat like mine and you love volume in hair, this is the product for you! Just take some mousse on your palms and apply it on your roots on damp hair and blow dry as usual. You will immediately get insane amount of volume. Trust me, you will absolutely love the results. Since I am not a person who blow dries a lot, I don’t end up using this often. I mostly prefer air drying my hair.

NEW & HERO Perfect Me – this delicate lotion adds shine, repairs, moisturises and tame fly-aways. It creates deliciously smooth hair.

HOLD LEVEL 2
Create natural style with smoothness with this delicate lotion that adds shine, repairs, moisturizes, tames flyaways and protects from the heat of styling tools.

HOW TO USE: Pamper, perfect, protect. Caress a small amount of product on mid-lengths and ends on damp or dry hair for a luxurious feel. Style as you wish.

MRP: Rs.900/- for 100ml

A BB Lotion for your hair. You must have heard about a lot of BB creams for skin, this is a BB lotion for your hair, and rightfully so. It not only gives the hair a smooth and shiny look and controls frizz, it also repairs, moisturises and works as a heat protectant. What more does one need 😀 I absolutely love it and use it every time post washing my hair. The smell stays on for a long, long time and I can’t stop smelling my hair for the entire day :p

Dry Me and Root Shoot are meant to give you volume and Perfect Me is meant to give hair a sleek and smooth finish. I use the Dry Me dry shampoo a lot, followed by the Perfect Me and Root Shoot whenever I blow dry.

My favourite from all three is obviously the Dry Me, followed by the Perfect Me :p I have clicked pictures before and after using the dry shampoo, the results are for you all to see..

This is my flat 3-4th day unwashed hair and just look at the volume I got on the crown with the dry shampoo.

Also this range is quite economically priced at INR 900. Mostly all hair styling products fall in that price category and talking about quality, I am highly impressed with this range! Highly recommended!!

EIMI is available in all Wella Professional salons. Simply ask your Wella Professional stylist for more information.

Patanjali Kesh Kanti Aloe Vera Shampoo Review

Patanjali Kesh Kanti Aloe Vera Shampoo Review

By Taniya

Patanjali is a well known brand in the Indian market. It is famous for its affordable and effective health, hair and skin care products. The product that I am going to review today is a haircare product – PATANJALI KESH KANTI ALOE VERA SHAMPOO. Now lets see how this product fared for me.

What it claims- Prevents hairfall, minimize split ends, removes dirt from hair and scalp. Makes hair thick and beautiful.

Usage- Take 2-3 ml of product on hand, message on wet hair and then rinse off. The whole usage instruction is written in Hindi though.

Ingredients:

Each 10ml contains extract of

● Aloevera- 500mg

● Hibiscus rosa sinensis – 1.0mg

● Ocimum sanctum (tulsi) – 1.0mg

● Baccopa monnieri (bhrami) – 1.0mg

● Sapindus trifoliatus (reetha) – 1.0mg

● Emblica offcinalis (amla) – 1.0mg

● Eclipta alba (bhringraj) – 1.0mg

● Lawsonia innermis (heena) – 1.0mg

● Acacia concina (shikakai) – 1.0mg

● Curcuma longa (haldi) – 1.0mg

● Tinospora cordifolia (giloyi) – 1.0mg

● Psoralea corylifolia (bakuchi) – 1.0mg

● Base material qs

Now all the base materials are listed separately too.

● Aqua surfacant base

● Tocopherol

● D-Panthenol

● Permitted colour

● Preservative

● Sugandhit dravya

Price – 75 INR for 200ml of product

Shelf life – 2 years

My take:-

This new launch from Patanjali Ayurved has a different packaging than their other variants. This one comes in a transparent bottle and it very easy to see the amount of product left. The flip top cap shuts tightly with a click which makes it travel friendly.

The shampoo is light green in colour with a gel consistency but when I apply it on my wet hair it lathers very well and my hair is clean in the first wash itself. The smell is citrusy and is mainly like their aloevera gel making it very refreshing for me. It lingers for a good time after I have finished washing my hair.

I am using this product for about 2 weeks now and I have seen my hair become soft and manageable after each hair wash. Even when I washed my hair once without conditioner, it didn’t make my hair very dry and rough. It has controlled the oiliness of my hair and even after 2 days my hair feels soft and so much clean. It has controlled my hairfall to some extent but I can’t comment on split ends as I don’t have as such.

There is no mention of parabens or SLS in the ingredient list so I will like to infer that it is free from these harmful stuff which is a big yay for me. The cons that I feel might be the availability as Patanjali products are sometimes out of stock and are not easily available online. Again I need a little more quantity of shampoo than their other variants for my mid-length hair. But considering their price, I feel it is a steal deal.

Pros-

● Affordable and effective

● Ayurvedic so no side effects

● Contains all good ingridients especially aloevera

● Makes hair soft, smooth and manageable

● Controls hair fall

● Controls oiliness in hair

● Refreshing smell

● Does what it claims

● No parabens or sls

● Better than their other variants

Cons-

● Availability might be an issue

● Need more quantity than others

● Not completely preservative or chemical free

● Packaging can be better

Repurchase and recommendation – Yes in both cases. I love this shampoo specially for summers and monsoons when both me and my hair need to feel fresh.

Overall- It is a very effective shampoo from Patanjali with all natural goodness and it does what it claims to do. And considering the price it is a definitely worth a try.

Editor’s Note: That’s a nice review Taniya, I am looking at trying a few Patanjali products, this one definitely seems worth a try.

I loved the color coordinated packaging as per the ingredients and the cute ‘leaf’ symbol on the caps. Also they smell amazing, Royal Jelly and Lavender is my favourite!

Royal Jelly & Lavender

They are quite rich and moisturizing, and foam well too. I have used the Royal Jelly and Lavender one till now and absolutely love it, though I haven’t tried the conditioner and looking forward to buy the conditioner and use it with the shampoo. I would recommend trying both the shampoo and conditioner together as either one would not give the result which the combination of both would.

It have noticed my hair being more softer and smoother. I don’t have very dry hair, but people with dry hair would see remarkable difference. I can’t wait to try the other ranges now!

A lot of you keep asking me about paraben free hair care, this entire range i.e. all five variants are paraben free.

Top 10 Must Try Salon Treatments in India, Prices, Details

Top 10 Must Try Salon Treatments in India, Prices, Details

By Archana

Am sure all of us girls pay a visit to the salon atleast monthly once. Many of us go looking for cheap packages and end up getting horrific threaded eyebrows and painful waxing. One of my friends once told me that in some salon she visited, one person waxed her left hand, second person waxed her right hand and third person did her facial, all at the same time! I was simply horrified listening to the experience. We go to a salon to pamper and relax ourself. So what’s the point of going through so much pains? Here I list down some of the best salons and the best treatments they offer. Its slightly pricier than the local salons but the experience is worth it. Read on to know the top 10 salon treatments you need to try.

1.  Enrich Salons Head Massage:

Enrich Salons offers some of the best hair services of all. The stylists are well trained and experts in their profession. Its the only salon where I loved the hair spa that I got. They also offer warm, relaxing head massages. What’s special about their head massages is that not only do they offer the regular olive oil, coconut oil head massages, but also they use special essential oils. You can choose from tea tree essential oil, rosemary, patchouli, geranium, lavender, vitamin E oil, etc, depending on your hair type and concern. I have never seen these essential oils being used for head massage in other salons. Head massage done under the hands of an expert with expert products is one of the best ways to destress and relax and also get healthy hair.

Price: Rs.525 for head massage and Rs.750 for head massage with shampooing.

2. Enrich Salons Black Masks:

One more service to try at the Enrich Salon. Believe me, they have really good interiors and decors and which help to relax immediately on entering. Also, they have a buy 1 get 1 offer every Tuesday. Their Black Masks are basically a detanning, detoxifying and brightening treatment. If you are suffering from heavy tan on face, arms, legs or feet, then this Black Mask is the perfect solution for you. The Black Mask is made with natural ingredients and the minerals present in the mask draws out oil and dirt from the face while the antioxidants energize and rejuvenate your skin. You can notice an instant detan effect. Tip: Currently, they have introduced some new services like Mango Detan and Watermelon Splash for hands and legs. 😉

Price: Rs.1200 for face and neck, Rs.900 for feet, Rs.2000 for half hands and Rs.3000 for half legs.

3. Toni & Guy Essensuals Icecream Pedicure & Manicure:

The perfect treat for summers is not only eating a tub full of icecream but also indulging yourself in these exotic icecream pedicure and manicure! The treatment consists of bath fizz bombs which instantly melts in water and soothes and cools your hands and foot. What’s more, at Essensuals, along with the icecream pedicure, you can opt in for a candle massage if you have very dry feet which need intense moisturization.

Price: Rs.900-1100

4. Toni &  Guy Essensuals Eye and Lip care:

Eyes and lips are often the most neglected parts in our face. Though we often go for facials, our eyes and lips go untreated. If you have dark circles, fine lines, dry and chapped lips, then try this Eye and Lip care treatment from Essensuals. This is especially a good treatment for software engineers as it helps to relax and soothe tired eyes as they do the massaging.

Price: around Rs.650

5. YLG Premium Coffee and Luxury Gold Waxing:

Gone are the days when waxing was a pain and just a job to be done. YLG has taken waxing to a new level by introducing luxury in it. YLG is well-known for their waxing services and they have experts in that. They offer different variants of waxing like Green Tea, Lavender, Lemon and Chocolate. Two of the notable and unique ones are the Premium Coffee Waxing and Luxury Gold Waxing. Not only are they painless and smell good, but they also offer other benefits like detanning, slowing down hair growth and giving long-lasting glow.

Price: Full Arms With Full Legs And Under Arms – Rs.599 for Premim Coffee Wax and Rs.699 for Luxury Gold wax

6. Lakme Salon Youth Infinity Sculpting Facial:

This is one of the facials which really showed long lasting effects on me. It helps to tone and firm the skin and gives a nice glow and these effects lasts for around 2-3 weeks if you take good care of your skin. The facial begins with a normal cleanser, scrub, steam and blackhead extraction. After this, the popular Lakme Youth Infinity Serum is applied and a small massager is ran over your face. This helps the serum to penetrate deeper and also tone and firm up the skin. Then a mask is applied and a gauze is placed on top of your face followed by another layer of mask application. This detailed facial lasts for around 90 minutes and you are also given a back massage. This facial is definitely recommended for those past 25 years when the skin starts showing signs of ageing.

Price: Rs.2400

7. Lakme Salon Hair Spa:

Lakme Salon offers a variety of hair spas including the popular Moroccan Oil Hair Spa. Other hair spas offered are Destress Spa, Enhance Spa and Miracle Oil Spa. Along with the hair spas, you can also opt for an extra dose of nourishment which comes as Health Boost, Silk Boost and Shimmer Boost.

Price: From Rs.1200 – Rs.2200. Boosts – Rs.400.

This is one of Naturals Salons signature facials and it lasts for 60 minutes. It detoxifies impurities and brightens up face with a nice, soft, radiant glow. You can choose an add-on mask from whitening, firming or bridal glow. The effect of the facial lasts for upto 2 weeks.

Step By Step Description of How to Do Hair Spa At Home

Step By Step Description of How to Do Hair Spa At Home

By Sanchita

The idea behind the hair spa is to rejuvenate and protect the hair. Yes, the good old warm oil massage and mild shampoo followed by conditioner is the regular or weekly routine carried on by us to protect and condition the hair. But, apart from that the hair needs specific care and rejuvenation by the process of hair spa. Now, hair spa is not necessarily done in parlors or hair care institutions and can be easily carried on at home with specific and easy available ingredients at your own volition. So you need not spend valuable money or time at the spa session every time. Let us see the step by step description of how to do hair spa at home.

1. Hair Oil

When you are going to devote yourself to the self-spa session, avoid using the readymade oils from the market which are nothing but merely mineral oils. So it will do no good to the hair. Use a concoction of hair oils like coconut oil, castor oil, almond oil and olive oil. The mixture should be 4parts coconut oil, 1 part castor oil, 2 parts almond oil and 3 parts olive oil. You can add other essential oils like argan, rose, ylang ylang or lavender as per your choice. Warm up the oil in a double boiler (no direct heat) and you can also add various herbs as well. For e.g. dried amla, methi seeds, neem leaves, hibiscus leaves paste, etc. can also be added in the warm oil which will further strengthen the hair. The hair oil is the vital step and best if it is done for.

2. Through massage

While the oil is the most important ingredient, the massage is the process which completes the procedure partly. Simply applying the oil won’t do so make sure you dedicate a good amount of time to massage the scalp well. Do not vigorously rub the scalp but merely run the fingers in a circular motion covering the whole area of the scalp. Massaging is essential as it improves blood circulation in your scalp area. You should massage your hair for 10 to 15 minutes. It helps relax the scalp and increase softness. It further aids in strengthening the roots of the hair and nourishes the hair-shafts, promoting new hair growth and strengthening current hair.

3. Warm Towel

If you have applied the oil a night before, then apply the warm towel in the morning and if you have applied the hair oil in the morning, do this at least an hour or two post oil massage. Dip a towel in warm water (just make sure not to burn the hand) and wrap it around the hair. In general, salons use a stream machine but the warm towel will surely do the trick. Warmth open up the pores on the scalp and thus it gets all the benefits of the oil. Also, it cleanses the scalp thoroughly, thereby promoting healthy hair growth.

4. Henna Mask

There are several hair masks available for hair and you can include the ingredients like ripe banana, eggs, curd, mayonnaise, etc. but I would suggest henna. Personally I have benefited a lot from the henna hair packs and it works like wonder. Henna is an age old method widely used in Ayurveda for treating hair and scalp problems. It is one of the best natural remedies for hair growth, helps to prevent dandruff and scalp itching. It acts as a good conditioner for your hair and helps to grow your hair. Mix the henna powder in the form of a paste with the help of curd or lemon and simply apply on the hair.

5. Shampoo

Once the hair mask is dried or after 40-50mins, wash off the mask with plain water. The rinsing will be easy as the hair as already well-nourished with oils. Next, move on to the main process of shampooing the hair. Try and use a SLS and PARABEN free shampoo which is mild and easy on the hair. Using a harsh chemically enriched shampoo means whatever effort you gave would go down the drain and the hair will be frizzy, rough and unmanageable. Shampoo will cleanses off every layer of dirt, grime, dandruff or any other residual substances on the hair, including the hair oil and hair pack. Although, the hair would retain the benefits for sure. One of the most important thing is that, rinsing off the shampoo is very important. A lot of people do apply it correctly and massage onto the scalp but forgets to rinse it out.

6. Conditioner

After the shampoo, apply the conditioner to the length of hair and keep it for around 2-3mins and no longer than that. Make sure the conditioner doesn’t slips onto the scalp and gets rinsed out properly after the shampoo.

7. Leave in Serum

This is the last step but I would call it optional. Since I have curly and dry hair, I always apply a leave in serum to make it manageable and frizz free but it is completely up to you. Also, I would not advise this step if you have thin and flat hair because it may weigh the hair down as the hair has already been conditioned since step 1.

These are the ways you can easily carry on the hair spa at home without shelling big bucks and also at our own convenience.

Editor’s Note: Absolutely loved this post Sanchita. This is the ideal procedure, wish I was not that lazy and time crunched :/ But even once a week or once in 2 weeks, following this routine would be amazing.

Do you do hair spa at home?

#PatrickCameron & Wella’s Modern Vintage Collection

#PatrickCameron & Wella’s Modern Vintage Collection

Hi guys,

Last week I and a select few bloggers were invited to meet Patrick Cameron, Wella’s Global Ambassador and the world’s leading long hair hairdressing expert. He is called a magician of long hair styling!

Hair styling as a category in India has still not reached its full potential. Styling products are used mainly by stylists at salons and less frequently used at home. Wella Professionals as a brand strives to bridge this gap by providing the consumers and stylists with premium quality products making the art of hairstyling rather convenient.

Wella recently brought down the Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron to educate 1800 hair stylists across three cities in India through grand shows where he exposed them to the various possibilities of hairstyling and his association with Wella. He believes that hairstyling is an expression of individuality and thus cannot take a back seat.

Patrick has spent the last 25 years travelling the world sharing and presenting his show stopping hair styles. During this visit to India, Patrick Cameron showcased his Modern Vintage collection with state of the art styling products from the Wella Professionals portfolio. Modern vintage takes its inspiration from the 1960’s because this era has an enduring influence in fashion, in the balance and the proportions of the way hair is dressed .This legacy is seen across the board from international catwalks to red carpets as well as editorial work.

Acknowledged as a long hair expert, Wella Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron had devised the collection to showcase step-by-step looks and demonstrations to the hairdressers that struggle with styling long hair. These hair shows were held across three major cities in India – Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore where there was a live demonstration of these looks.

We met him a day after his hair show. He was quite happy to see majority of us sport long hair. He also gave us some styling and general hair tips and made us try out some products.

Some things shared by him which I would like to mention here:

  • Indians love oiling the hair, so go ahead and oil your hair. It’s not bad, but you can also use oils/serums/elixirs in between the days when you haven’t oiled.
  • Keep the shampoo a little longer in your hair for it to work and ingredients to penetrate. Don’t wash off immediately.
  • Always use a conditioner/hair mask, that is what will keep the ends/lower half hydrated and shiny
  • One can use a dry shampoo to add some volume/texture to the hair

He is a genius with hair, he looked at few of the bloggers and predicted their personality with the way they carry their hair! He complimented my hair saying they are hydrated and hence shiny. He also explained how if the lower half of the hair is dry, light passes through the hair and they appear dull and rough. And when they are healthy and moisturized, light bounces off the hair and it gives them a shiny appearance.

It was a pleasure meeting him and learning few tips from him, a wonderful experience.

Khadi Trifla Powder Review & How to use for Hair

Khadi Trifla Powder Review & How to use for Hair

By Nidhal

The most common and irksome hair woe everyone be it a man or a woman faces today is the dreaded 8-lettered word ‘HAIR FALL’. Didn’t it send shivers down your spine? Its roots (no pun intended) find origin in myriad causes ranging from stress to poor/substandard quality of products used, from bombarding oneself with chemical-laden products to diet deficient in proteins. ‘When everything fails, head to Granny dearest’ is the mantra I espouse and live by both metaphorically and literally.

My grandmother’s pearls of wisdom in the realm of hair care have always had one product since times immemorial. No points for guessing ( for you would have already seen what it is thanks to the title of the post), it is TRIFALA POWDER (also called ‘Triphala’). It is a blend of three herbs- Amlaki (Amla), Haritaki (Harar/Hadad) and Bibhitaaki (Bahera/Baheda). And the three together, pack a punch at so many hair woes that you’d be left wondering why on Earth didn’t you use it before.

Trifla Powder is also excellent for people suffering from constipation, acidity and irregular bowel movements. You just need to have one spoon with water whenever you feel bloated or have irregular bowel movement. Do not have it regularly as the body gets used to it.

I grabbed KHADI TRIFALA powder from a Khadi store in Delhi a few months ago. Today is the time for us to know if it deserves a second try or not 🙂

PRICE- Rs 45/- for 200 g

DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Mix Khadi Trifala powder in the base ingredient. Mix well. Apply on scalp and hair. Rinse with cool water.

INGREDIENTS- Amla, Harar and Bahera

WHAT IT CLAIMS- Trifala is good for constipation and acidity. It regulates bowel movement. (This indicates that the product is edible)

MY EXPERIENCE-

Packed in a simple plastic pack, the packaging of Khadi Trifala powder is way too simplistic in fact, underwhelming. Once cut open, the contents need to be transferred to either a clean container or a zipper pouch. Carrying it while travelling is a hassle both ways. As a result, I think it would be better if Khadi revisits its packaging decision for the current one for this product is disappointing.

Khadi Trifala powder is finely powdered and that makes it a cakewalk to mix it with the base ingredient of one’s choice be it curd, water, raw milk or anything that suits one’s hair type. Since my hair type is dry, I team it up with coconut milk. I suffer from one hair woe and that is why I opt for coconut milk because of its intensely hydrating properties.

I have used the above concoction for a month consistently without fail twice a week and what I noted was an improvement in my mane’s volume, strength and frizz control. It softened and imparted shine/lustre too but that wasn’t as praiseworthy as some of the herbal powders I had used in the past such as-hibiscus powder. It is important, I believe to be realistic. One product cannot be a Hindi film hero who’d bash all the goons to pulp, mouth one-liners that’ll make the audience whistle in awe, rescue his leading lady and basically do everything 😛

This product is no different. When used consistently over a period of time with the right base ingredient, it works wonders in some spheres (say-volume increase, strength, frizz control) but doesn’t perform as well as expected in some (shine and softness). Perhaps, addition of a few more ingredients to the above mix help me achieve my ‘unachieved goals’. All in all, it is a good investment keeping the price and its benefits in mind. Go grab a few packets to treat your mane naturally!

GOOD-

1. Dirt-cheap

2. A single pack will last long. Each pack contains 200 g of Trifala powder which is sufficient to last long.

3. Finely powdered hence, mixing with any base ingredient is cushy.

4. Gives complete volition to the user to mix with whichever base ingredient one wants to say- milk, curd, water, etc.

5. Strengthens hair overtime

6. Removal is easy

7. Other ingredients can be added to the Trifala+ base ingredient mix such as- Reetha powder, shikakai powder, tulsi powder, etc.

8. Makes one’s tresses voluminous

9. Suitable for use by all

10. Natural. No chemicals pumped into it hence, a safe solution to combat hair woes.

BAD-

1. Limited availability. It isn’t easily available online. The only option currently is to visit a Khadi store and grab it.

2. Does not impart as much shine as is expected from Trifala powder (Amla imparts shine)

3. Packaging needs to be improved. The provision of a zipper pack will be better.

4. Does not soften hair much. I have used some herbal powders before and this powder does not soften my tresses as much as those did. That said, it does not even dry my hair too.

RATING-4.5/5

Editor’s Note: Trifla is fabulous, I have had it often as a part of capsules if I suffer from irregular bowel movement. But I have not used it directly as a mask, though a part of hair masks in general. I would surely give this a try Nidhal.

Have you tried using Trifla powder for your hair?
