Top 7 Yoga Asanas for Healthy Hair

Top 7 Yoga Asanas for Healthy Hair

By Nidhal

A healthy mane which is lustrous, glossy, satin smooth and manageable is what we all eye. Quite naturally, we look for ways to get what we desire. From application of herbal home remedies to intake of supplements, we it all at our disposal but somewhere down the line, physical workout misses out being in the picture and that is where we flunk.

We have already covered the Top Asanas for Glowing Skin.

So, in line with this thought, why not have a look at some Yoga asanas that leave one with cascading locks that we’ve always desired? 🙂 These Yoga asanas enhance hair growth in addition to ameliorating their texture and semblance. Let us check them out.

1. KAPALBHAATI-PRAANAYAAM- A highly soothing and revitalising asana offering a multitude of health benefits, Kapalbhaati-praanayaam literally translates to ‘skull shining’ exercise for it increases the amount of oxygen in the body which imparts glow to one’s skin. It also helps to give one’s scalp all the oxygen it needs to rejuvenate damaged hair and helps it grow. Start with 20 breaths per set a day and increase its frequency as you gain confidence and strength with each day 🙂

2. SARVAANGA-ASANA- An easy asana that helps to purify blood and optimise the functioning of the thyroid gland, Sarvaanga-asana helps to improve the length, thickness, texture and girth of hair. Gorgeous mane, did I hear you say that? Hold the position for 30-45 seconds in each set and gradually increase the duration to 1-1.5 minutes as you acquaint yourself with the asana.

3. SHIRSH-ASANA- Quite challenging and daunting as it may seem, but if mastered, Shirsh-asana is a sure-shot way to ensure long-term health and vitality. Hair loss, greying of hair and baldness are often caused due to poor blood circulation in the scalp. Shirs-asana not only directs enriched blood to the brain, but also sends it to the scalp. The transforming of grey hair into its original colour and good growth of hair is possible through the practice of this headstand pose.

4. PASCHIM-OTTAAN- ASANA- The seated forward bend pose aka Paschim-ottan- asana helps to stimulate kidneys, liver, uterus and enhances blood circulation in the body which further enhances hair growth due to better oxygen intake. It also relieves one off stress, anxiety and a host of minor headache issues.

5. SHASHAANG-ASANA- Also called the “rabbit pose” for it makes one resemble a rabbit’s structure, Shashaan-asana is what you need to incorporate in your daily workout regimen if flaunting shiny and lustrous tresses is on your “To Do” list. Performing this asana daily for 15 minutes (30 seconds for each set) will improve blood flow to your scalp, thereby bringing more oxygen to it and leaving you with glossy locks in no time, however, the key is to be patient and persistent no matter what 🙂

6. VAJRA-ASANA- Widely known as the ‘diamond pose’, Vajrasana enhances the supply of energy and blood to the upper part of our body. Besides accelerating the rate of hair growth, it also helps in correcting ones back posture.

7. ADHO-MUKH- ASANA- Not only does Adho-mukh- asana acts as a major stress buster, it even helps in stimulating the flow of blood to the head, and thereby accelerating hair re-growth. One set should last for roughly 30-40 seconds. Begin with 5 sets a day and increase its frequency as you get accustomed to it 🙂

Editor’s Note: This is a fabulous post Nidhal. I am surely going to try some, we all need a little yoga and flexibility in life.

Do you do yoga and/or any of these asanas already?

Livon Hair Gain Tonic Review

Livon Hair Gain Tonic Review

By Nidhal

There is an inexplicable joy in stroking one’s fingers down lustrous, satin smooth and long locks that cascade like a waterfall. In fact, if we take walk down the lanes of Bollywood, then that scene in Rangeela where Urmila (named Mili in the movie) stroked and played with her hair sensually while grooving to the beats of the coquettish and peppy number ‘Tanha Tanha yahan pe Jeena’ is one that stays afresh in my memory even after so many decades. Oh boy, Urmila defined sensuality in that song and how! Okay, let YouTube be of help to you in case you are unable to recall that iconic song sequence 😛 Relive that era once again and don’t forget to drool over Urmila.

Coming back to hair, thanks to the fast-paced lives that we live today with dirt, pollution, dust, grime, chemical-laden products pumped into our mane at the drop of a hat and stress, our mane looks anything but gorgeous (of course, there are some exceptions but let us turn a blind eye to them for a minute and focus on the wider, general populace). Naturally, hair fall is what we face and dread. To combat this pesky woe, Livon had introduced its Hair Gain tonic. Honestly, I was wary of it since hair growth is influenced by a number of factors such as- diet (protein and iron rich), weather, quality of products used, type of comb used, sleeping pattern and duration, and so on and so forth, so I picked it up unwillingly. That said, I have used it a couple of times keeping my inhibitions aside. So, that calls for us to glance at its report card, right?

PRICE- Rs 685/- for 150 ml (BUY HERE)

DIRECTIONS FOR USE- Apply directly on the scalp with the bottle’s nozzle or fingertips. Begin from the centre of the affected area and spread all over the scalp. Rub the tonic with your fingertips gently. DO NOT MASSAGE.

INGREDIENTS- Aqua, ethanol (denatured with diethyl phthalate), propylene glycol, PEG-12 dimethicone coplyol, polysorbate 20, diaminopyrimidine oxide, Aloe vera freezed dried powder, copper peptide, D-Pantheol, PEG-40, Hydrogenated castor oil, Imidazolidinyl urea, fragrance, PEG-6 Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Cl 19140, Cl 16255, Cl 42090

WHAT IT CLAIMS- Livon hair gain tonic contains root energizers which are enriched with hair re- growth molecules. It is clinically tested to accelerate hair growth and control hair fall by revitalizing hair follicles from the roots and improving hair quality.

MY EXPERIENCE-

Livon Hair Gain Tonic comes packed in a cylindrical plastic bottle with a cap on top. There is a nozzle inside that is covered to prevent spillage. On account of packaging, it is hygienic to use, leakage-free and travel-friendly. Since it fulfils all the requisite parameters of evaluation for me, I do not find anything worthy of modification. Hence, is up to the mark in terms of packaging for me.

The tonic has a liquid texture. In fact, one could mistake it for water had it not been pumped with an artificial fragrance and a yellow colour. The colour, however, isn’t visible when poured from the bottle. It does not leave any sticky or oily feel after being applied unlike an oil. In fact, it leaves a cooling sensation. I do not suffer from hair fall thankfully but some of my family members do and after using religiously for over a month, they did note reduced hair fall. They didn’t note any growth which is of course, tacit since I mentioned in the beginning that hair growth is impacted by a number of factors and no product, howsoever effective it may claim to be, can help one’s hair grow. What it can do at the best is arrest hair fall and this is exactly what Livon hair tonic does.

On the flipside, it comes laced with an alarming number of toxic chemicals such as- PEG, Propylene glycol, fragrance (under the garb of which a number of noxious chemicals are added), silicone (dimethicone) and coal tar dyes. So, using it would be like playing with fire. This point is subjective. Some people are comfortable with using chemical-laden products. Some are not. That said, if you are using it/desirous of using it, then at least do not develop a hang of it because so many chemicals if added to your scalp on a regular basis, will eventually wreak havoc in the long run.

GOOD-

1. Readily available

2. Arrests hair fall unless it is severe

3. Cooling sensation

4. Non-sticky feel

BAD-

1. Contains way too many chemicals such as- PEG. Silicones, fragrance, propylene glycol and coal tar dyes.

2. Artificial fragrance is irksome for me

3. Expensive

RATING- 3/5

Editor’s Note: Sounds ok, I think it’s good for someone having severe hairfall, can atleast control that. Don’t think it would help in hair gain though.

Have you tried the Livon Hair Gain Tonic or something similar?

Selsun Selenium Sulfide Topical Suspension Shampoo Review

Selsun Selenium Sulfide Topical Suspension Shampoo Review

By Pallavi

Hii Girlies,

I normally suffer from dry skin issues. And with dry skin there are a number of other associated issues too. Dandruff is one of the major concerns of dry hairs. Now, who likes white patches on hair. It looks so yakkks and unclean. I suffer from dandruff hair issues all round the year. Some people suffer from dandruff only in winters but i am a poor soul who has to face this issue always.

So, i came to a conclusion that i will shampoo my hair every alternate day after proper oiling. This time when i went home my mother gave me this lotion and told that this one is the holy grail for dandruff. So, i decided to give it a try and here follows the review.

Price : Rs. 204.76 for 120 ml

Ingredients : Selenium sulfide 2.5%; bentonite, citric acid, cocoamphocarboxyglycinate, ethylene glycol monostearate, fragrance, glycerol monoricinoleate, lauramide DEA, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium phosphate (monobasic), titanium dioxide, and water.

Directions for use: take some 3-4 drops of the hair lotion depending on your hair length and volume. Now, dilute the same with winter so that it easily spreads on your hairs. Now, apply the lotion on your entire hair covering the hair scalp and length. After 15-20 minutes your hair will turn dry. Now, you can rinse it with water.

Company claims: A liquid antiseborrheic, antifungal preparation for topical application. Selenium sulfide has the molecular formula SeS2 and has a molecular weight of 143.09

My experience with Selenium Sulfide topical suspension shampoo:

The lotion comes in a small sized white bottle which has the details inscribed on it. The bottle has a cap at the top. You need to twist the cap so that the lotion comes out. The lotion is thick yellow in colour which smells heavily of chemicals. You need to dilute it with water so that it spreads easily on the hair.

The first time when i applied this lotion on my hair, my hair also smelt of medicines and chemicals. All those 15-20 minutes that i left this lotion on my hair it felt heavily of chemicals. My hairs turned completely stiff after some time. But once when i washed it the hair felt incredibly soft. Yes, they were not that free flowing but the stickiness vanished from my hair. But if you oil then don’t expect this lotion to remove the oil. And if you do, then make sure you apply a regular cleansing shampoo after that in order to remove the build up from the hair.

I started using hair lotion once every week. Within 1 month my dandruff considerably got reduced. So, once you finish this hair lotion, your dandruff issues will get resolved. But the same story repeats when you stop using this one. so, it’s just a temporary and not a permanent solution.

Pros of Selenium Sulfide topical suspension shampoo:

1. Takes care of dandruff

2. Easy to use

3. Spreds easily on hairs once diluted with water

Cons of Selenium Sulfide topical suspension shampoo:

1. Loaded with chemicals

2. Does not give freshly shampooed hair

3. Temporary solution to your dandruff issues

Rating – 1/5

Editor’s Note: Umm, so this works but it is a temporary solution. Alteast they could have made the smell bearable :/ Nice review Pallavi.

What do you use for dandruff? Have you tried Selsun shampoo?

Irresistible Me Ruby Auto Rotating Curling Iron Review

Irresistible Me Ruby Auto Rotating Curling Iron Review

Hi guys,

I have been trying this IrresistibleMe Ruby Auto Rotating Curling Iron since quite some time now. And I also did a video, but sadly the focus got wrongly locked and it is not in focus, though I uploaded it anyway, coz I worked quite hard on it. It might help someone 🙂

About the Ruby Curler:  The Ruby curling iron is an innovative rotating barrel with auto recovery function that gives you perfect curls every time.

The barrel is ceramic, fused with tourmaline to easily create silky, smooth curls. The diamond coating enhances its durability and heat transfer, unlike conventional ceramic irons.

The tourmaline gemstone is a natural source of negative ions and far-infrared heat, which provides faster styling.

Negative ions eliminate frizz and lock in moisture by closing the cuticle to create smooth, shiny hair.

The temperature remains constant curl after curl, allowing you to work quickly, while attaining consistent results.

But that is not all! The Ruby Curling Wand comes with an array of features that will make your life so much easier:

No frizzy hair – the tourmaline technology with negative ions leaves your hair smooth and shiny by sealing hair oils, color and moisture in
Fast heating (less than a minute) and variable temperature control (210C/410F)
Intelligent – the LED screen shows you the temperature you are at
It has an auto stand by feature after 1hour
1 year limited warranty

Price: $119

At first, it is very light and that’s the best part, coz curling hair takes about 20-25 minutes and if you use a heavy curler, the shoulders and hands pain very bad at the end of it.

The best part is the auto rotating, it makes life so much easier! You do not have to fold every section of your hair on the barrel and just sit and click on the ‘Right’ and ‘Left’ buttons, keeping your hands free 😀

Features
Directions

It comes with 5 different temperature settings i.e. 260,300,340,380 and 410 degrees in Fahrenheit. And the cord is pretty long and rotates 360 degrees, so you can move around or be in front of a mirror even if the switch is a bit far. It has universal voltage, so would work in all countries. It comes with US plug and you will need a converter if you want to use it here in India/or as per your country.

Since I have very thick hair and it’s in layers i.e some are short and some are long, it takes me about 15 minutes for loose beachy waves and about 25 minutes for smaller, tighter curls.

The barrel is 26mm and it heats up pretty quick, hardly takes a minute. I usually go for the mid temperature i.e. 340 and loose beachy waves.

I love the volume, I have pretty straight hair which is usually flat, and I absolutely love curls and volume on me! I use the BBlunt Curl Defining Leave in Cream before curling and use the L’Oreal Professionnel Beach Waves Spray after curling, still it stays on me only for a day. I won’t blame the curler here, it’s my hair! Coz that has happened even when lots of mousse was applied and I was given super tight curls during my engagement, not to forget ton of hair spray. But curls open up on my hair quickly and easily.

I also like IrresistibleMe’s Diamond Straightener and the 8 in 1 Curler, they also have a lot of different hair extensions and hair care products. I have a 10% off coupon code for you guys, it’s ‘IrresistibleBhumika‘ and is valid on the entire website www.irresistibleme.com

They have Free Shipping above $150, so below that, there would be some shipping charges. You can combine your order to get free shipping, I was not charged any customs duty on this.

Overall, I would say, it is very convenient and easy to use, and I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a good hair curler. It is slightly expensive but then the auto rotating feature is something which is it’s USP and makes our life easy! And the rotating feature is not seen in majority hair curlers, and you have to twist each section of your hair on the barrel each and every time.

What do you think of the IrresistibleMe Auto Rotating Curling Iron?

P.S: PR Sample. Honest Review

BBlunt Blown Away Volumizing Leave-in Spray Review

BBlunt Blown Away Volumizing Leave-in Spray Review

By Pallavi

Hello ladies,

Thin hair is a concern for many ladies. And owing to today’s stressed and pollution hair fall is also an increasing trend. But in order to look presentable you need to make your hair also look trendy and stylish. But that’s not possible with such thin lifeless hairs. So, what should we do??? Have you ever heard about Volumizing sprays??? Well, Volumizing sprays are actually a mist or gaseous product which when sprayed on hairs lifts the roots and gives a good amount of volume to hairs. but this increase in volume is only an illusion. There is no real volume.

I have heard a lot about these Volumizing sprays. So, one day while online browsing when i saw a brand called B-Blunt had a volumizing spray in their kitty. I decided to try it. And to cut the long story short here is the product – B-Blunt Blown away Volumizing leave in spray.

Price : Rs.550/- for 150ml

Ingredients:

Directions to use: Turn your hair upside down. Now, apply the spray on roots of your hair. If you have long hairs you can also apply it on your hair length. But try to concentrate mostly on the roots. Apply on semi-wet or towel dry hair.

Colour – transparent

What B-Blunt claims: If big hair is your thing, may we introduce you to your new best friend. This volumizing spray gives you incredible fullness and bounce, that lasts. Go big with confidence.

Details

Ingredients: Hydrolyzed Wheat protein, Meadowfoam seed extract & Provitamin B5
Specially created for Indian hair
Protects from the environment and heat styling damage

My experience with B-Blunt Blown away Volumizing leave in spray

To begin with the product impressed me with its packaging. It comes in a big but slim and stylish yellow bottle. The bottle is transparent so that you can see the amount of product left inside. The bottle has the entire product details mentioned. It has a spray like opening with a tiny tube like structure. . You need to spray it a bit so that the product comes out of the thin yellow tube.
The texture of the spray is clean foam like. It smells heavily of chemicals. When i first pressed the spray a very little product comes out. So, you need to spray the product a number of times to spread it evenly on face. Try to concentrate only on roots. The product does not wets your hair much. After spraying the product well, try to spread it with your fingers on hairs. you can see a beautiful illusion of volume. Try not to comb too neatly. This will give you a messy and voluminous look.

But sadly the volume is not long lasting. It stays only for a while. If you go to a outside wide then the volume will fly away in no time. But of course the volumizing spray makes your pouf more prominent and beautiful. Since a little product goes a long way so a single bottle will last you ages.

Good about B-Blunt Blown away Volumizing leave in spray

Runaway brand
Affordable price
Comfortable and easy to use texture
Gives an illusion of volume
Little product goes a long way

Bad about B-Blunt Blown away Volumizing leave in spray

Not much volume
Volume doesn’t last long

Rating – 3/5

Editor’s Note: Sounds nice when you need instant boost of volume, sad that the effect doesn’t last long.

Moroccanoil Hair Spa Experience

Moroccanoil Hair Spa Experience

Hey guys,

Few days back I was invited for the Moroccanoil Hair Spa experiental at the Renee Melek Salon in Bandra. I have had the chance to experience the Moroccanoil Hair Spa before at The Taj Palace Salon in Colaba. So I know how good it feels and was more than happy to try it out.

The owner Renee herself checked my hair and recommended the intense hydrating treatment for my hair. (Since this time my hair was more dry than my previous experience)

My hair was first washed with the Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo.

Funny me- after the wash :p

And then a mix of Moroccanoil Serum and Intense Hydrating Mask was applied on my hair all over, in parts. Its a mix of 1 pump and 1 spoonful of mask.

It was followed by a relaxing massage and steam.

Then the hair was washed again, this time only with water. Followed by a blow dry.

Here are some before-after pics.

Front
Back

My hair felt super soft to touch and I could feel the hydration in the hair, as it had turned a little dry of late. And even after a serum and mask were used, it was quite light and bouncy. It did not weigh my hair down. Hair stayed hydrated for a week or so. I also got this Moroccanoil Light Serum which I am currently using and testing out. Would review soon.

There are different Moroccanoil Hydrating Treatments and options. The Price of Moroccanoil Hydrating treatment – ranges from Rs. 2300 – Rs. 2700 depending on length and thickness of hair. Prices are inclusive of tax.

I have always had a good experience with Moroccanoil hair spa treatment till now. Have you tried it yet ?

P.S: Services were provided by the brand but it has not affected my opinion.

Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Treatment and Range Review

Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Treatment and Range Review

If you remember my #MakingUpWithMatrix posts on my facebook, twitter and Instagram, I had gone for this Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Treatment at the Matrix Hair Academy. And later on, I was using this range to see the difference.

I was attended by Faiyaz Shaikh– Asst. Manager, Artistic at Matrix.

About the Fiberstrong range: BIOLAGE Advance FIBERSTRONG is the next generation of hair care from MATRIX that offers anti-hair fall hair products & services specially formulated to tackle weak, fragile and brittle hair.

Fiberstrong combines the goodness of Nature with BAMBOO and the power of Molecular Science with INTRA-CYLANE to give 95% less hair breakage in just 1 application. Bamboo passes on its strength to the hair promoting the elasticity of hair strands. Intra-cylane, an exclusive patented molecule, helps fill in the gaps and seals cuticles to reduce breakage. These indulgent ingredients help in creating a structural reinforcement system to strengthen weakened hair cuticles as they condition the hair for ultra -soft & smooth results.

It claims to have the power of Intra-Cylane and Bamboo extracts which gives 12 x stronger hair. Its a hair strengthening treatment against hair breakage and hair fall. And also claims to help reduce hair breakage by 95% in one application.

Step 1: At first, the hair is checked, by pulling one strand of your hair. If it goes back to its position and has elasticity and is strong enough. Upon that, its decided which stage of treatment your hair requires.

There are 3 stages:

Stage 1: Normal hair..not much breakage

Stage 2: Hair does not have enough elasticity and is prone to hair breakage

Stage 3: Damaged hair..breaks and falls easily.

Thankfully, I was falling under Stage 1, but Faiyaz said he would give the Stage 2 treatment so that I can see the difference.

Step 2: Hair wash and conditioning with the Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner.

Step 3: Fiberstrong Intra-Cylane Concentrate is applied on every section of hair.

Step 4: Fiberstrong Strengthening Masque is applied.

Step 6 and 7: Hair is rinsed and towel dried.

Step 8 : He applied Fiberstrong Strengthening Leave-in-cream and blow dried..and finished with few drops of Matrix Biolage Serum for shine.

This treatment is to be followed by using the Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Strengthening Shampoo, Conditioner and leave-in-cream at home. Faiyaz made me feel my hair and I could definitely feel the difference.

For Stage 3 hair, special Aminexil ampules are used which anchor the roots and prevent hair fall.

The treatment costs anywhere between Rs.600- to Rs.1500/- depending on the hair damage stage and the salon. Its available in all salons which house Matrix services and products. Find a salon near you HERE

The products used..shampoo, conditioner, masque, leave-in-cream,serum and the intra-cylane concentrate.

And here is my before-after..

A front after shot..why break up when you can make up 😀

Coming to the Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Strengthening shampoo and conditioner I was using later on..

Shampoo claims and usage:

MRP: Rs.270/- for 200ml, Rs.485/- for 400ml

Ingredients:

Conditioner claims and usage:

MRP: Rs220/- for 98g, Rs.380/- for 196g

Ingredients:

I like the packaging in gray and green…the shampoo foams well and cleanses hair well..I normally see hair falling during shampooing too..but with this range, the hair fall during shampooing was very less.

The conditioner is not very creamy and moisturising..its light in texture and easy to use and rinses off easily since not very rich.

I see volume and strength in my hair and less hair fall too, but my hair is not soft and smooth which I generally prefer. Maybe its coz  of the conditioner, I do like the shampoo though. I would recommend this range for fine, limp hair which faces a lot of hair fall.

If you have tried many hair fall shampoos and conditioners and nothing has worked for you, give this range a try ! I am sure you will not regret. And also try and include the Intra-Cylane strengthening leave-in-Cream with it. I have not used that..but that would give better results together.

The Fiberstrong Treatment is surely worth a try..and at that price, its quiet worth it too..your hair does need some strengthening apart from the regular haircuts and styling !

Read more about the range on the Matrix India site HERE

Have you tried the Matrix Biolage Advanced Fiberstrong Treatment or Range ?

P.S: I was offered the service and products for review, but it has not affected my opinion.
