I attended the Merck Event last week at Amadeus, NCPA, Nariman Point, Mumbai. Merck is a company basically from Germany and has its collaboration in India from the time Rabindranath Tagore went there and had good relations with the Merck family..Performance Materials is one division of Merck out of the many divisions..and pigments form one part of Performance Materials..and not only the colored pigments we use for our eyes..but everything from mattifying powders in pressed powders to the shimmery highlighting powders..the pretty looking body washes and face washes..each and every thing has these pigments..even the paints on the walls and the outer packaging..everything..

What happened: Even a humid day in the over-cast weather of Mumbai could not break the excitement resonated around the conclave hosted by The Performance Materials division of Merck [India] to discuss and showcase the latest trends, movements, technology and innovations in the world of beauty and design. Merck is the pioneer and global leader in pearl effect pigments and a key player in setting global trends in beauty, skincare and design. Combining expertise with experience, this exclusive preview also featured the likes of Samantha Kochhar – MD Blossom Kochhar Companies, Ojas Rajani – Ace Bollywood make-up stylist and Dr. Soma Sarkar – renowned cosmetologist and dermatologist, who threw light on the latest advances and inventions in beauty and the importance of effect pigments in the colour cosmetics and skin-care products that we use.

Merck [India] also shared its latest initiative ‘Project effexX’, a first of its kind co-creation platform in the world of product design, architectural design, interior design, aesthetic design, package design, cosmetics and skin care. Through Project effexX, Merck India intends to communicate the value, benefits, and the need for special effect pigments in people’s lives and businesses, along with serving as a knowledge resource for trends, technology, new design and innovation. It’s the perfect destination for aspiring beauty and design professionals to engage with industry experts and seed new concepts and ideas.

It was an afternoon full of shimmer and shine, with Ojas Rajani showcasing the latest looks for Colour Forecast of Autumn/Winter, 2012. This was also followed by an interactive experiential session, where participants got to custom make their own skincare and colour cosmetic formulations using a variety of Merck pigments and actives.

Ojas Rajani explained two looks on the models..a day time and a night time..the day time look was more sublte where pistachio and pastel shades were used and the night time look was smokey.

Samantha Kocchar was herself a makeup artist before..if you are a follower of Band Bajaa Bride on NDTV Good Times, you must have seen both Samantha and Ojas on the first season..She tookover as the MD of Aroma Magic a year and a half back after her dad expired and she heads it now. She also told us about the new launches of Aroma Magic..a new line of face washes..which have Merck Pigments..and new innovative packaging..and also that they have worked on the smell of Aroma Magic Mineral Glow Scrub which is their hot seller..but smells blah..

Ojas Rajani uses cosmetics which have Merck Pigments in them. I have got a lilac eye-shadow which has Merck pigments in it ..would review soon..

Merck also has Titanium Dioxide used in Suncreens and many other pigments related to skin care and pearl effect pigments used in makeup..the whole pigments thing was kind of an eye opener..I knew the ingredients used in stuff..but not about how these pigments are sourced from different companies and used in manufacturing and the process, etc..we were also shown a demo of different pigments mixed together..

Though they mention matte, these are super creamy and glossy..and are super pigmented..and the staying power is nice too.

Proactively Pretty

The shade card mentions provocatively pretty but on the lippie the shade name goes Proactively Pretty..now I am confused…but whatever the name..the shade sure is a pretty one..its a deep rosy brown..would suit all skin tones..more so dusky skin tones.

Sinful Velvet

Sinful Velvet is a warm mauvey pink..it would suit to medium to fair skin tones more..

Pros:

1. Super pigmented..the swatches were difficult to remove from my hand.
2. Stays for a good 4-5 hours and leaves a tint behind.
3. These are very very creamy..in fact I feel they easily melt or break if not handled well.
4. There are 12 shades to choose from and both in matte and frost finish..there are browns, pinks, mauves, rosy browns..a shade for everyone.
5. Has jojoba oil and Vitamin E.
6. Perfume free..if one is bothered by smell.
7. Feels very light on the lips.

Cons:

1. Availability is an issue. They are available online at Urbantouch, Good Life and Snapittoday.
2. I don’t know what the jelly texture as claimed means..but these are super creamy..and so soft that it broke while swatching..these I guess need to be stored in the fridge..and are not very travel friendly too.
3. The packaging..very poor and unattractive..plus not even sturdy..the bottom of Sinful Velvet is unattached and it does not swivel or come out..I have to roll the white plastic base of the lipstick inside for the product to come out :/
4. I think it should be priced below Rs. 300/- at this packaging..ya if they make the packaging prettier and fancier, then its justified.

Overall I like the quality, texture ,shades, pigmentation, staying power..only if these were sturdier and had better packaging, these would be awesome..

Gorgeous Hair

1 | Camouflage roots by zigzagging your part rather than making it straight.

2 | Brush hair from roots to ends nightly. This distributes natural oils throughout the shaft and gives hair a healthy sheen.

3 | Be direct when telling your hairstylist what you want, and bring photos from magazines of styles you like.

4 | Doing your hair color yourself? Don’t make too drastic a change. Stay within one or two shades of your natural color.

5 | Comb wet hair like the pros: Hold a handful at a time and work from center to ends, then scalp to center.

Beautiful Brows

6 | Soften skin before tweezing by dabbing with a cotton ball soaked in warm water or cream.

7 | Tweeze in the direction the hair grows.

8 | Don’t change the place where your brows peak and never pencil the whole brow. Instead, only fill in holes.

9 | Use only the side of a sharpened brow pencil—not the pointed tip—so as not to draw a hard line.

10 | For unruly brows, apply hairspray to an old toothbrush, then brush brows upward and outward.

Bright Eyes

11 | Treat your eye area gently. This is the most delicate part of your face. Cleanse with care; blot, never rub.

12 | Reduce puffy eyes by splashing with cold water or applying a cold compress (ice cubes in a washcloth): 15 seconds on, 15 seconds off.

13 | When you put on mascara, don’t lower your chin—that’s how mascara gets on your lid.

14 | Get eyeshadow to stay in place by priming lids with moisturizer and foundation.

15 | Always use your ring finger to apply moisturizer or concealer to the eye area. It puts the least amount of pressure on the skin.

Pretty Face

16 | Don’t touch your face unnecessarily. Breakouts can be caused by your own fingers.

17 | Apply cream or cleanser by lightly pressing upward—never down. The delicate skin sags easily enough in time.

18 | For the best color match, test foundation and powder either on your face or neck (the inside of your wrist is too pale)

19 | Use foundation, not concealer (which is lighter than your skin color), to cover up redness or blemishes

20 | Rouge should be well-blended far out on the cheekbone; circles of rouge don’t look good on anyone.

Lovely Lips

21 | Get lips soft and smooth by using a damp, warm washcloth at night to rub off the flaky dry bits; follow with a coat of lip balm

22 | Ease the evening switch to a redder or darker lipstick by applying it over and blending it into your daytime color

23 | To make lipstick last longer, allow it to set for a few minutes after applying, blot lips with tissue and dust them with powder, then apply another coat

24 | Cheeks feeling flushed? Put on a bold color lipstick; a neutral shade will only make red cheeks stand out

25 | For lipliner that glides on, warm it up first by pinching it with your fingertips

Glowing Skin

26 | The best time to apply lotion is right after a shower or bath, when skin is still damp.

27 | When drawing a bath, scatter bubbles or crystals directly under the faucet before turning on the water, but drop in perfume oil while the tub is filling

28 | Beautiful skin starts from within. Include lots of vegetables, fruit and water in your diet

29 | Overdo it with your perfume? Dab rubbing alcohol with a cotton ball on your skin. The alcohol will cut the scent without altering it.

30 | Microwave lotion for 5 seconds to soothe dry winter skin.

Smooth Legs

31 | Improve circulation in your legs and lower the risk of unsightly veins by elevating your feet when resting

32 | Wait until after your shower to shave. The steam softens hairs for smoother results.

33 | Don’t use creams that contain heavy fragrance or alpha hydroxy acids on freshly shaven legs. They’ll sting and cause a rash.

34 | When applying “liquid stockings” [or today’s self-tanner], don’t forget the back of your knees, which are often missed.

35 | Waxing your legs? Pull skin taut before applying the wax to make it easier to remove the strip in one clean motion. Remove leftover wax with a cotton ball dipped in baby oil.

Model-Like Hands

36 | Shape nails with an emery board, filing sides toward center—never straight across—and rounding off edges

37 | What works for your face works for your hands. Remove age spots with facial brightening cream

38 | The fast way to remove nail polish: Hold cotton saturated with polish remover firmly on your nail for a few seconds to let it start working, then wipe nail clean.

39 | Apply polish starting at the pinky, working toward the thumb to avoid dragging your hand across wet nails.

Happy Feet 

40 | To counteract dryness, massage feet with a lanolin-based lotion, kneading it deeply into your instep, then massage soles, heels, top surface and around nails.

41 | Before using a pumice stone or foot file to remove a callus, be sure to soak your foot in warm water for at least 5 minutes. Follow with a little foot cream.

42 | To prevent ingrown nails, trim toenails straight across, not down into the corners.

43 | Relieve swollen feet by soaking them alternately in hot water (for 3 minutes), then cold water (for 1 minute), for a total of 15 minutes.

44 | Use fresh pineapple or kiwi skins, which contain bromelain (a meat tenderizer), to exfoliate heels. Rub the fleshy part over heels for 5 minutes, then rinse, dry and moisturize.

Its a white colored tub packaging..with a cap in..and is peachy brown in color..though it seems gel like..its quite thick and gooey.

The blend of essential oils give it its base smell..you just need a little amount..and is to be used on moist face..I massage face 1-2 minutes…and it cleanses amazingly well..love the way skin feels !

Pros:

1. One of the best face washes I have used..it does what it claims.
2. Cleanses skin well..without ant dryness.
3. Made of pure and natural ingredients.
4. Parabens, SLS and colors free.
5. Love the blend of essential oils in it.
6. This 50 g is going to last long..since a little amount is needed.
7. Economical.

Cons:

1. Not available easily..its not seen at the Auravedic site too..though some Auravedic stuff is available online now at Natural Mantra, Craftsvilla, Purplle, Good Life and Green Yard.
2. Its difficult to use from a jar every time.
3. Keep it away from eyes and chapped or dry lips..it stings horribly !

Since it contains essential oils..they advise sensitive skin to stay away from it..coz one can never predict what would react with the skin..but others..I surely recommend this..you can get depending on the skin type..Neem, Honey or Rose..but this is a must try ! I am totally loving it..

1. Stays put whole day !
2. Quite pigmented..just 1 swipe gives a good enough color.
3. Glides on super smooth..no tugging or pulling.
4. Economical.
5. Available in 9-10 pretty shades.
6. Safe for sensitive eyes..did not irritate on waterline too.
7. Sharpens well..without wastage.
8. As its sharpening and not mechanical..hygienic.Cons:

1. You need a good remover to take it off completely.
2. Faces Cosmetics is not available easily everywhere.

I have no other issues with these ! These are totally recommended and must have !

Cabo Coral and Calypso Coral were a part of the Bobbi Brown Cabana Corals Collection which had launched in 2010.

I was super confused between Cabo Coral and Calypso Coral..Cabo Coral is a true coral peach..minus any pinkiness..whereas Calypso Coral is a bright coral pink..I was scared it might be too bright..but it comes up just fine after blending.

As described..Calypso Coral is a bright coral pink..I like the coral pink hue it gives to the cheeks..but it does not look OTT.

Its a little on the glossier side..so I guess the oily skinned would not prefer it much..coz of the shine..you better try first before buying.

Its so super easy and convenient to use..I love cream blushes coz they are very easy to use and can be used anywhere..you just need clean fingers..thats it !

Unblended-Blended

The formula is nice and easy to blend..it stays a good 6-7 hours..though the glossiness would go..the color does not fade away completely..but I wish it had better staying power..not the fault of the texture..nothing survives too long in the humid climate here.

I find this a little drying for lips..and the color does not show up much too..it comes up as a stain..and stays for 2-3 hours..but not very comfortable on lips….you feel that dryness.

Pros:

1. I love the bright coral pink shade.

2. The shades they offer are all quiet nice and versatile..from peaches to pinks to brown pinks to plums and browns.

3. Super easy to use and blend.

4. Convenient to carry around.

5. Gives a glossy finish to the cheeks..I like that in winters.

6. Stays for a good 6-7 hours.

7. Can be used for both lips and cheeks.

8. Its easy to use..also coz it does not settle in fast..and would not stain if you do not blend quickly..so good for newbies too.

Cons:

1. Feels drying on lips.

2. Expensive.

3. Availability is an issue..I see only 3-4 shades everywhere.

Overall I quite like it..I did not have a bright coral pink cream blush in my stash..the texture is nice..easy to blend and gives a glossy finish..I also like Powder Pink, Blushed Rose and Pink Truffle. Calypso Coral is a nice color for medium to fair skin tones. For medium dusky, I would suggest Powder Pink or Pink Truffle.

Ingredients:

It comes in a black case packaging with a transparent bottom..where the actual shade of the lipstick can be seen. I loved the fact that the majority of the shades are from the pink family. The case is quite sturdy and nice..
The lipsticks are super creamy and pigmented..these have to be handled with care and stored in a cool place in summers if you live in a place with hot climate as these would tend to melt..these are so pigmented that you need just a swipe of color to cover the lips..and the staying power is amazing too..I am quite surprised by these..as they score well in all departments..texture, creaminess, pigmentation, staying power..
04 First Lady is a bright carrot pink shade..now I was expecting it to be a lighter shade of pink but it is quite bright..I am wondering how much bright the other shades like Neon Dahilia and Ultra Pink would be 😀 Though the shade in one swipe can be an everyday shade for me..it does light up the whole face in 2 swipes or more..I quite love the shade and how it brightens up the face..and this shade is so versatile that it would look good on all complexions..whether you are fair or medium or dusky..you cannot go wrong with this shade.
Here it is on me..
Pros:
 
1. I love the texture..these are super creamy.
2. Quite liked the black sturdy packaging with the color of the shade at the bottom.
3. Very pigmented.
4. Most of the shades are from the pink family..there is one pink for each one of you..of your choice..if you trying to find some particular shade of pink..you should check out this range.
5. This shade instantly brightens up the face.
6. The staying power is amazing. It stays for a good 4-5 hours and leaves a pretty pink tint behind.
7. This shade would suit all skin tones.
 
Cons:
 
1. To be stored well..especially in summers.
2. Faces is not available everywhere and though its available online..sometimes it is important to check out the swatches on our own.
3. The names do not match the shades..Fiery Orange is actually a pink shade and French Rose is an orange.
 
No other cons with this..I surely recommend this shade to everyone and you would not go wrong with this shade. The range is worth checking out for bright shades..especially pinks.

I have no words to describe this lipstick actually ! In one word its AWESOME..!

It has this long slender black square packaging..and shaped as a slim lipstick..super creamy..quite pigmented..and it has no smell at all..

Rose Brown as the name suggests is a medium pink with a hint of brown…a perfect MLBB for me..I am wearing it each and every day..I am so addicted to it..

And here is how it looks on me..

Pros:

1. Super creamy..I just love the texture..as good as a lip balm.

2. Its quite pigmented and I need just one swipe and can build up the color..but the shade is such that it never looks too bright.

3. The staying power is pretty good..and it leaves behind a tint even after a full meal.

4. No fragrance.

5. I am so in love with the shade..its perfect for Asian skin tones..and if you, like me, are addicted to MLBB shades..then this one is made for you 🙂

6. I loved the entire collection of shades..and also that it has more of pinks, corals, rosy browns and nude pinks and browns.

7. It does not settle into fine lines and gives a creamy finish to the lips.

Cons:

1. It gets collected at the outer edges..a common problem with these slim lipsticks.

2. Not available here..:(

I cannot think of any other cons..I am so in love with it..This is surely a must try..And it has 97% recommendation by users on its site too..Apart from Rose Brown, I also like Twilight, Uber Pink, Pink Buff, Coral Pink…sigh..so many !
