Tips on Buying Furniture Online

Tips on Buying Furniture Online

Hi guys,

So just after our wedding, I and my husband shifted to a new place near to his office and it was an unfurnished rented place. We had to buy all the necessary furniture and here is how we did it:

1. Jot down the necessary furniture items

Start with noting down what all you need, like for a house with 2 people, the basic furniture you would need is a sofa, center table,TV unit, bed and a wardrobe. You may need more cupboards/storage drawers if you have more stuff. Also, a dressing table can be skipped if the wardrobe has a mirror. A dining table can be skipped as it would also occupy too much space. Buy a center table and bed which has storage inside.

2. Budget

Keep a budget in mind for each and every item and/or the combined total i.e. how much maximum would you prefer spending on furniture. Also, if a house is rented, does not make sense to invest in a lot of furniture, but if you have your own house, then of course, it makes sense to allot a higher budget.

3. Quality

If you are buying some few key pieces, make sure that you get good quality and it lasts you a long time. Cheap stuff may sound alluring at first but will hardly last you an year or so, and then you have to keep on re-purchasing new stuff every year. Rather invest in good quality, durable furniture.

4. Design & Style

You will find 100’s of designs out there, also when you buy online, you get confused looking at so many options. For e.g. In a sofa, there is 3+ 2 seats and there is an L shaped combined one. Keep the corners of your house in mind, measure the area and then suitably select something which will look the best. Even after the design is shortlisted, there are different patterns, different materials, etc. to choose from. Go for something which is durable. Avoid whites if the furniture is going to be used a lot since it will be dirty quite soon and end up looking muddy and lose its charm, though whites are classic and difficult to say NO to, but keep all the factors in mind.

There are a lot of websites which sell furniture online, but buy from someone you trust or have purchased before from. I would say, try buying 1-2 small things at first and get to know the site, delivery, quality, returns, etc., before purchasing everything at once.

Once you find a correct, trustworthy site, then just place your order and your life is simple! Durian offers free delivery and free assembly, easy EMI options and 5 year warranty! Also, 90% of the stuff is made in India.  I have often been to Durian stores and my family has purchased quite a lot of stuff from Durian since the time of its inception. I know how reliable, sturdy and trustworthy Durian furniture is.

Now you can get Durian online http://www.durian.in/, it’s #JustAClickAway 🙂

Styling the new Lakme #HairIsFashion Hairstyle and Win a Hair Makeover

Styling the new Lakme #HairIsFashion Hairstyle and Win a Hair Makeover

Hey guys,

Remember my new Lakme Absolute Salon #HairIsFashion Show Stopping Hair makeover HERE. I am in love with the subtle highlights and the cut Shefali gave me.

The highlights get a bit lighter and more visible after a few washes..so they are a little more prominent now.

How I would love to style my new hair?

With western/casual clothes, I love the way its blow dried here. I would prefer doing the same..straight locks with in between subtle hints of highlights on the crown and from behind the neck. The auburn looks perfect with a brick red lipstick here.

With Indian wear like a saree/dress, I would go with softer curls on the ends turning them outwards something like this..

Or add some embellishment with bangs similar to this (I am thinking of experimenting with short bangs)

Or side swept hair with waves..

Curls pinned to one side something similar to this..

Can’t wait to try different hairstyles..would definitely update you guys with pics of more trials..

For now, here is a contest for you guys..one of you gets a chance to win this Show Stopping Hair Makeover at Lakme Salon.

Van Heusen MYFIT Experience

Van Heusen MYFIT Experience

Human beings are not robots. Surprisingly, Apparel companies dont often get it. Actually, they don’t get it. My hubby is 6’3″. Lean build. Weighs 80 kgs. Has a broad body, long arms and longer legs. :p

So, all the shopping he does for formal wear (He was an investment banker so he cannot afford to mess up on his clothes fittings) invariably ends up with buying shirt and trouser pieces from Babubhai Jagjivandas at Dadar and getting them stitched. Because no brand has a shirt size of 42 with an option of 1 inch extra sleeve length. It was a nightmare for me to find a shirt to gift him even during our courtship coz of the 42,44 confusion. All brands had some minor difference in sleeve length in 42 and 44. And while both were slightly loose when it came to overall fit especially 44, but the sleeve length could not be compromised at all :/

Enter Van Heusen MYFIT.

“What is MYFIT?

How often has it been that you have walked into an apparel store just to return empty handed because what you liked didn’t exactly fit you or wasn’t available in your size? How many times have you wished that you could alter just a bit of the design elements so that the garment truly reflects your own style?

Each one of us is unique – with different body types. Someone may have a paunch, someone may be shorter or someone may have a longer than usual arm length. For a long time, brands have treated consumers as a set of fixed fits and sizes. As a result, people who don’t fall within these specified sets of sizes and fits have to live with the compromise of not finding their perfect fitting garment. Even people with regular body type have to live with the compromises of things not fitting to their taste.

Van Heusen MYFIT changes all that. It’s an innovative solution that helps consumer break all these compromises and gives the power in their hands to find a garment that truly fits them – fits to their unique body or to their unique taste.”

He went to the store with a not-so-optimistic mood. I had to literally kick him out of the house. He came back with a happy grin. His size was “TALL FIT – 42” for shirts.

I then went on to the Trendin website, picked a smart blue line formal shirt and 2 pairs of trousers. Shirts in MYFIT have 7 step by step customization options starting with body type..and the main being sleeve length +1 inch and -1 inch. We went for +1 inch, that being the major problem usually coz of his height.

Coming to the trousers, it again has 5 customized steps starting again with the body type. Then comes the flat front or pleated option, followed by waist size. It has lots of options in waist size including the in-between odd sizes from 27 to 37 and then again the even ones from 38 to 50. And the last is trouser length, if you know the exact size which if you have visited the store or get it stitched previously you would, you get the exact including half an inch. And even if you don’t know the exact length, fret not, you can alter it at your nearest Van Heusen store anytime.

The order came about a week later. The package was from Madura Fashion & Lifestyle. Turns out these are the very same Madhura guys whose premium menswear was in great demand a generation back.

The store manager had also told him to come visit again after the order is delivered and he would be more than happy to do a few minor alterations.

Anyways, the shirt as well as the trouser fitted him perfectly. For a change :p

For starters, MYFIT works like this:

a) It doesn’t offer tailor made shirts and trousers.

b) They have just introduced some simple variations in standard sizes to make it easy for a lot of differently sized people to get good quality branded formal wear.

c) You go to a store. Try out various sizes. Zero in on the MYFIT size. Go online and order the same. Actually, MYFIT is so simple that if you are familiar with your measurements, you don’t even need to go to a physical store.

PS: Have a look at the fabric before buying (Actually, the store guys have an entire catalogue with them containing sample pieces of the cloth fabric that would give you a better idea).

Do you like this innovative idea of MYFIT?

How #lunchboxANDyou helped me surprise Hubby

How #lunchboxANDyou helped me surprise Hubby

So I got an email at 3 am at night from Indiblogger on 10th Feb asking for details of a person whom I want to sent a lunchbox to,for the luncboxANDyou campaign.

Hubby rejoined office just 3-4 days ago and its quiet far for him from my inlaws place where we are living currently..and since I am on bed rest, I cannot do anything..I really wanted to surprise him and when I got this opportunity, I thought it was just perfect timing!

Why would I want to sent a lunchbox to hubby? For obvious reasons, he is my husband! 😀 Since his work place was near from our home, he used to  come home for lunch and I have never ever sent him a lunchbox before, making it the first time, which is always special 🙂

He loves simple, home cooked food and is not at all fussy. Though he likes limited things, but he never cribs about having the same stuff everyday coz for him, as long as it is nice, home cooked food, he is happy. He is not much a fan of junk, pizzas, etc unlike me :p I sent him a punjabi subzi, rotis, daal tadka and rice followed by non chocolate cupcakes (He doesn’t like chocolate :/)

I even added a small personalized message in the luncbox, thanking him for everything he has done for me till now, especially during this testing time of my accident, when he himself was hurt. He did not even bother to get himself checked or treated untill I was safe and out of ICU. The times were tough, but we stayed strong. It was quiet early in our relationship i.e. within a month of the wedding, that we faced such tough times and we both did not expect each other to be so strong. But it was only his undying support that I am better today and progressing well.

I want to thank #lunchboxANDyou and Indiblogger for giving me this opportunity to surprise hubby 🙂

‘The Lunchbox’ Premieres on Valentine’s Day at 8 PM on &pictures. I loved that movie and would recommend you to watch it, if you haven’t yet! Irrfan and Nimrat were fabulous in the movie.

Have you seen The Lunchbox? Who would you like to send a lunchbox to?

#DovePlay Experience and Dove Intense Repair Range

#DovePlay Experience and Dove Intense Repair Range

So as you guys know Dove and Indiblogger together came up with this super interesting meet for all female bloggers last Sunday at JW Marriott, Mumbai..and there were bloggers flown down from Delhi, Pune, Kolkotta, Bangalore, etc..so we got a chance to meet and greet all thanks to Dove and Indiblogger.

Having attended 100’s of events till now, let me tell you, I was expecting the same usual thing and nothing different..I was in for a shock! And how!

This was the most interesting, unique and amazing event/meet I had been to ever!

Everyone registered first and got the badges and route maps and team numbers..we were served some yummy snacks and desserts for the high tea.

Registrations
Me with Suma and Jyo

First of, there were around 150+ girls all dressed in white..and we were divided into 10-11 teams. I was in Team 4. We all decided our team names first..we went with the name ‘Curls’. Not all of us knew everyone in the team too. So, there was this fun activity where half of the girls stand inside and half outside and make a circle facing each other..and turn in clockwise and anti-clockwise direction whenever the music starts and stop at whichever places they are facing their partners when the music stops. We were made to introduce each other, dance, do the bird dance, do a funny handshake, give each other a compliment, act a smiley we were given, etc..this helped all of us know each and every member of our team! Fabulous idea!

Circles for Introduction
Birdie Dance :p

They also had a fun twitter thing in between like who tweets the most, who updates the most and getting a picture with someone from Dove.(I did manage to get a pic! :p)

Next, was a super fun and amazing 10-15 minutes zumba session. That, I feel, was the highlight of the day. We all danced our hearts away..like crazy.

The Best Part- Zumba

Then we were supposed to play few games like Have A Ball, Jigsaw Puzzle, Play with your hair and Hoola Hoop. Also, our bags were kept safely with your name tags while we have a ball and enjoy.

We were divided into 5-5 each for Have a Ball..where there was this huge inflatable bouncer filled with different colored pit balls. 3 people would be going in and finding out the White Dove balls..and 2 people would be standing out holding the buckets to catch those white balls. And the next team of 5 people does it. We collectively managed 175 balls.

Have a Ball

Our next game was Play with your hair..where we were given 5 hairstyles and 5 girls would create the hairstyles on 5 other girls and then those 5 girls will repeat the same on the girls who created before :p I guess all the teams got full 100 points here.

Play with your Hair

Then there was this life sized jigsaw puzzle..and we were given the left part of it..there were 3 teams and each team would be given one part of the complete picture. We managed to assemble it in 3 minutes and few seconds.

Jigsaw Puzzle

We later went to the Dove Salon area where we could get whatever hairstyles we did want, professionally and get pampered.

Dove Salon for Hair Makeovers

And lastly there was hoola hoop which we tried but could’nt complete due to lack of time.

Hoola Hoop

There was this one last bartending act near the pool where one girl would be representing her team..and she had to make a good drink and name it. Shivani from our team took the lead. The mixologist also gave out some tips. Top3 winners received Lakme Salon vouchers for everyone in the team. We lost there 🙁

Finally we had dinner and drinks, a DJ at the end. The winning team was announced. There was one more small game for 2 of the girls.

We all received Dove Keratin Actives Shampoo and Conditioner, Philips HP8309 Salon Straight Hair Straightner and a cute Dove bird blingy hair pin. And of course, Indiblogger tee and our pictures which we clicked there with all the fun props. The drops were also taken care of.

Pics we clicked there and got at the end

I think this was by far the best event/meet I have been to..since we were enjoying and had kept our bags with them, my camera was in my bag and I could not click enough pictures..so all these pics are from the Indiblogger page on facebook.

I am trying out the Dove Keratin Actives Range right now..and can see the difference in my hair already.

Dove claims: Dove Intense Repair Shampoo contains Keratin Actives that go deep within, to help rebuild damaged hair at the cellular level. It makes your hair beautifully smooth, strong and resilient to damage. Read more about it HERE.

Directions to use the Dove Intense Repair Shampoo :

1. After washing your hair thoroughly take 2 to 3 drops of the intense repair shampoo, equal to size of a coin, on your palm.
2. Then apply the dove shampoo, gently massaging it all over your hair from the roots to the tips.
3. Leave the dove shampoo on your hair for a couple of minutes and then rinse it off completely.

So basically all the damage from the heat and chemicals, can now be repaired. Let’s see..I will update you guys with a full review soon.

Also, we did not hear anything about the twitter winners there on ground..I hope we are updated by Indiblogger on this..coz some of us were tweeting a lot..and I even managed to find a Dove executive out of all the ladies in white and took a picture! :p

P.S: All the pics from the Indiblogger facebook page.

Do you like Playing with your Hair ?

Do you like Playing with your Hair ?
Ok..so there is a friend who is obsessed with twisting and curling her hair..like from the time she ever had hair :p She keeps on rolling and rolling and rolling them..when she is studying or thinking or talking or doing anything..I think many girls have this habit..do you ?
No, I don’t. And I am not talking about that playing with the hair..which is a habit now..but what I mean by playing with your hair is doing whatever you wish to do with your hair..any damn hairstyle, curling, straightening, perms, hot rollers, coloring..and all the weird stuff..
Of course we love those different styles on us, don’t we ?
I had got these curls on my engagement..and I sooo loved them..and I wish I can do them every single day..

But with all these, we always fear damage..the heat and chemicals in the styling products can harm our hair..and thats why we try and refrain from these experiments.
What if we could do all of those, without any damage to our hair..would’nt that be amazing ? Trying a new hairstyle everyday ?
Did you see the new Dove ad where all girls are experimenting with their hair ? Fun right ? I love the music and lyrics too..

Recharge your Hair to recharge your Life !

Recharge your Hair to recharge your Life !

I have always loved my hair..from times immemorial..it has always been soft, silky and smooth..though not always long..I have started growing them now..in the last one- two years or so..
And managing long hair is not an easy task at all..they get wavy at ends and one faces split ends, etc and such other issues..plus oiling and washing long hair takes all the more time..also one of the reasons why I have stopped oiling much…and the quality of my hair is going down..and this makes me sad..
How I wish my hair stays like this always !
Why do I need to recharge my hair ?
As I mentioned, the quality of my hair is going down..the soft, silky, smooth, manageable hair are no longer the same..I definitely need to recharge my hair..and I am trying to get my old mane back by all ways possible..
How it will recharge my life ?
If my hair is in place, I need not worry about anything in life…getting ready takes 2 minutes..and I am also ready for all the pictures always..if my hair is recharged, it will definitely recharge my life..no more bad hair days..or braids or hiding it in scarves..and always the silky, smooth, ready to click hair 😀
And so bouncy and smooth like this !
Would make my life very easy ! Being a beauty blogger, I need to click pictures almost everyday..and when my hair is dull, I many a times shy away from pictures..or try to hide them, etc..but the result..very poor pictures..
The magic solution which Sunsilk is promising, if it actually recharges my hair, I would be the happiest ! Truly !

A Better Way of Life with Lenovo

A Better Way of Life with Lenovo

When my laptop decided to go paranoid, I switched to using the Lenovo Yoga 8 B6000 tablet. And it’s been awesome.
So, until the beginning of this month, I didn’t have a tablet.

Me showrooming at Croma back then

Me: I don’t have a tablet, so could you walk me through the different features?
Salesman: You don’t have a tablet?!
Me: I do not.
Salesman: And you don’t know the features of a tablet?
Me: I do not.
Salesman: Do you have a feature phone or a smartphone?
Me: Dude! I am not from the 18th Century. I am just a first time tablet user.

But anyways, the Lenovo Yoga was the obvious choice from the universe of options that were on display. It lets you do some pretty cool stuff and ranks way above others in terms of battery life and ease of use.

Fast forward to today. I have begun writing this post on the Lenovo Yoga 8 B6000 tablet, whilst getting a foot massage and a pedicure at a salon.

It’s been only 2 weeks and the Lenovo Yoga is already my calendar, address book, music player, voice recorder, traffic indicator, camera, games console, newspaper, GPS navigator, blogger, fitness indicator and social media contact device. Sometimes when I’m bored, I even use it to make phone calls. The best part is, it has a lot of stamina (Read Batter Life). I can use it with ease without having to worry about battery life.

It took me less than 5 mins to set Lenovo Yoga up with the Bluetooth in my car, and I was very pleased for figuring that out. I can do a whole lot of things with the Lenovo Yoga vis-à-vis my office computer which doesn’t let me access facebook, twitter, Linkedin, web based emails – security firewalls that are slightly less stringent that the ones used by the US government.

And yeah, it doesn’t drain the life out of your eyes. If you have had LASIK surgery and use a smartphone regularly, then you will know what I am talking about.

But, besides going over the cool features of the tablet, I thought it would be fun to share what a somewhat typical day looks like for me at the moment.

A somewhat regular day

Around 8:00AM: The alarm rings. I go for the Snooze option till I can no longer be on bed. I finally get up at 8:30. (Its winter and my blanket is super warm and cozy )

Around 8:30 AM: I check my emails, Whatsapp and other important updates, automatically synced to my tablet, respond to important mails and then finally head for the shower. I can respond to and send emails, search my folders, and delete old messages. I can also send and accept appointments. My reminder tells me that I have to take mom to the annual health check-up today. Today looks like another hectic day.

Around 9:00AM: I head for breakfast. I bring my tablet with me, so that I can look things over and plan my day.I’ve gained weight, and the Fitbit is helping me take it off again. I’m still not down to the weight I was at, but little by little…step by step…I know I’ll get there. The mobile app for the same on the tablet keeps me updated throughout the day.

9:30 AM: I start preparing a spot at my kitchen table to take pictures of products I’ll talk about in an upcoming blog post. I use the tablet for the pictures, although not of DSLR standard, are brilliant enough.

10:00 AM: Today, I am travelling to Pune, a 4 hour drive. I switched on the ‘Navigation’ app and the ‘Google Maps’ app. From this, I can figure out the directions and traffic status. This, I must say, is one of the best features of the tablet. Technology at its best. Because people who know me in real life also know that I get lost easily. I connect my phone to the car stereo to listen to my favourite playlist. Wow. The Mumbai Pune expressway rocks.

14:30 PM: Finally arriving at my destination (better late than never), I head to the hotel. Time to find a place for Lunch. I use Zomato to find restaurants that are close by, check the menus, and, most importantly, the ratings. This handy app, which is available for the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry, allows me to try local establishments rather than relying on chain restaurants. It can then switch over to Google Maps which gives me walking or driving directions to the location.

15:00 PM: The meeting has started. I don’t carry the notepad and pen to take down notes. Instead, I use the tablet. The icing on the cake is, the Lenovo Yoga tablet looks very sexy and appealing. Perfectly suited for use in a formal meeting or a casual one.The fact that it can be positioned in multiple ways, is so unlike those boring standard laptops or tablets out there.

16:00 PM: Finally done with the Meeting. Now time to head back home.On a way back, we got a flat tire. This would’ve caused a major delay, but the tablet had the ‘Justdial’ app installed, which let me quickly get in touch with the nearest service centre. The convenience of that was awesome.

17:00 PM: “The Irritating Boss”. My boss called me and wanted me to send over the power-point deck and the underlying calculations I was working on yesterday. I was supposed to send them tomorrow and so, they were still in draft mode. I quickly opened the files (For those who think that a tablet is just a big smartphone, they are mistaken), made some changes and emailed them across, instead of having to wait until I got home, when it would be too late. That was a huge thing.

19:00 PM: Vashi is here. There is a Mega Sale going on at Raghuleela Mall. That’s music to my ears. I have to buy some stuff as gifts for the upcoming wedding season (Why the hell is everyone on a wedding spree?, but anyways…). Again, the flipkart and Snapdeal app will tell me whether the mall discount is actually a discount or just one of those shopping discount scams.

20:30 PM: Finally back home. Rescheduled taking my mom to the doctors, to tomorrow morning. Right now, I would prefer to read and read, till I doze off. The perfect size of the screen lets me to read ebooks conveniently, without stressing out my eyes. The long battery backup comes extremely handy. Its been over 5 hours of active usage and I still have plenty of power to last for a couple of hours of reading, till I sleep.

23:00 PM: Time to turn in. I realize that I have been productive and connected during my entire travel day without opening my laptop.

These are just a few of the apps on my phone and a tiny number of those that are available.

Why did I go for a Lenovo tablet over a laptop or a better smartphone?

Lenovo Yoga being what it is, it offers the perfect combination of long battery life, more utility value than a smartphone and a lot more portability than a laptop. In short, it is the swiss army knife of gadgets, and offers the best of all worlds.

Of all tablets, Lenovo Yoga is trying to do something different and unique, taking a risk to give the user that extra bit of world class experience at an affordable price. Hats off to the product team at Lenovo.
PS: You realise the importance of most importantly, the battery when you feel helpless in front of a dead phone. Every one of us has been there atleast once.

And the must haves of an ideal tablet are;

Tablet as a card – An ideal tablet should letme store tickets, vouchers and loyalty cards on your phone. I can simply shove your phone under the scanner to board a plane, enter a concert or get your 10th coffee free at your favourite cafe. It’s going to be a sleeper technology, but it’s the next piece of the puzzle in Lenovo’s plans for world domination.
Lots of battery power – I guess I am paranoid about battery backup. But this is the most common complaint by smart gadget users.
Simple to use & “Cool” – This is what Microsoft did wrong and Apple did right. Need I say more?

P.S: This entry is for Indiblogger’s Lenovo #Betterway Contest. Check out the Lenovo India Facebook page for more details..https://www.facebook.com/LenovoIndia
