8 Things You Must Do while You Spend Your Vacation in Barbados

8 Things You Must Do while You Spend Your Vacation in Barbados

8 Things You Must Do while You Spend Your Vacation in Barbados

Barbados. The name itself takes us to some images filled up with of turquoise water, white sands, calypso, cricket, a bottle of rum and variety of fish delicacies. Let us look over some facts and funs of this little country, measuring 166 square miles in total, before you plan for your next vacation over there.

The indigenous people of this region, Kalinago, were lost to the Spanish in the 15th century. Then the British came and started sugar cane plantation and industry. Back then, they brought the African slaves to do the plantations works. British rule ended in 1966 and the people, mostly with African origin, got their independence.

British has left the power of this country more than 50 years ago. But still, more than 50% of tourists occupying the streets and cafes and restaurants and villas on the beach in Barbados are Britishers only. No wonder, why the country is called as ‘Little England’ affectionately.

Now Barbados has secured its place as the most developed island in this region. It welcomes the tourists worldwide to indulge themselves into some cracking fun with all its natural subtropical climates, beaches, colonial history, mouth-watering menus and festivals.

Time to check out 8 real points that would count in your itinerary.

1. Hit the Beaches

Though the area of this country doesn’t compare to the most ones in mainland, it has a real pride for its number of beaches along the sea among them the Crane Beach, Bottom Bay, Rockley Beach, Paynes Bay, Pebbles Beach, Mount Standfast Beach, Bathsheba Beach, Dover Beach and Carlisle Bay are most famous. Some of them are popular for their rocky facades, while the others are adorned for the white sands. Whatever it is, no one can ignore to explore by the sea when in Barbados.

2. Swimming with the Turtles

This one adds a totally new perspective when visiting a place. There is a wide range of cruises and tours that make it possible to swim with the turtles. Most turtle tours are conducted on catamarans which provide lunch, masks and snorkels. It is a great outing – sailing down the magnificent coastline, a delicious lunch, some rum and of course, seeing the beautiful turtles and snorkelling in the Caribbean Sea. Some tours include stops at the beach and snorkelling over shipwrecks.

3. Explore the Harrison’s Cave

At the heart of Barbados lies one of its greatest wonders – the magnificent Harrison’s Cave. Located in the central uplands of the island, this crystallized, limestone cave is characterized by flowing streams, deep pool of crystal clear water and towering columns. Gaze in wonder at the white flowstones and in awe at the beauty of the speleothems which adorn the cave. Harrison’s cave is a gem of an experience, so be sure to visit and unearth the adventure.

4. St. Nicholas Abbey

No, it is not a church or has no connection with religion at all. St. Nicholas Abbey is a former sugar plantation and now turned into a museum and a rum distillery. Visitors get a glimpse of the plantation life of the past centuries in the museum. There is a 1930 film also depicting many sides of the plantation. Sugar plantation here was closed down in 1947 but still one can see the mill working. There is also a rum distillery that produces St. Nicholas Abbey rum which can accompany the tourists while going through the pages of history in the museum.

5. Take a Sip of Rum at its Homeland

We already have come across rum at the previous destination and who can think of a tour in the Caribbean without rum and when in Barbados, the homeland of rum, it will be a crime to not have it at least a little bit. It is believed that rum was first produced in Barbados. And the culture of this country, or even in the Caribbean as a whole, has always been touched up with rum since then. You will find some of the oldest distilled rums here to make the spirit high while touring.

6. Flying Fish Cutter

Here comes one of the most special attractions of the country. One can never ignore seafood and fish while visiting in this region. And flying fish cutter is a speciality of Barbados as to say that flying fish are a big part of the cultural identity of the island is a bit of understatement. So never forget to have a taste of the indigenous form of sandwich which looks like a burger though.

7. Nidhe Israel Synagogue

The only synagogue in Barbados, Nidhe Israel Synagogue, is one of the oldest synagogues in the western hemisphere. Built in the 17th century, this establishment has lots of stories to be revealed to the tourists as it has turned a part of it as a museum that traces Jewish history in Barbados dating back to the arrival of the earliest Jews in 1628 and highlights their contribution to the Barbadian society. So do not miss this cluster of history.

8. Crop Over

Crop Over is the premiere summer festival of Barbados. Not only that, arguably the most colourful festival of the Caribbean is considered as the identity of the country’s people. This attracts tourists worldwide. Even the Bajans who live off the island also get back to the country in this festival season to celebrate with the family and friends. The main festival is held by the government itself but there are many other small Crop Overs take place with no government undertaking.

5 Reasons Crete Should Be First On Your Travel List

5 Reasons Crete Should Be First On Your Travel List

The sheer size of the world is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, you’ll never see everything there is to see. On the other hand, well, you’ll never see everything there is to see! You’re never going to get bored traveling, but there are inevitably going to be places you won’t have a chance to explore. Think about it. In a country like Greece, there are multiple islands that you can spend months exploring. To truly see everything in Europe alone will take you more time than anyone has on Earth.

Which is why we all prioritise certain countries and cities. Ultimately, however, you end up knowing that certain places will keep bringing you back. Other countries can wait, because you’ve fallen in love with a particular city.

For me, that place is Crete. I can never get enough of it and, while I know everything is a matter of personal preference in the end, I believe that Crete can be that place for almost everyone. It has everything you want in a travel destination: culture, history, luxury, natural beauty, and a vibrancy that makes me never want to leave.

I’m going to share with you exactly what draws me back to Crete over and over again, and I hope I can convince you to give it a chance sooner rather than later. There are plenty of Crete rentals available for all types of travelers, including those who like to live in luxury no matter where they are.

Living History

Greece as a whole is shaped by its history. You cannot visit without being reminded over and over again that it is the birthplace of democracy, home to some of the most important philosophers of historic times, along with the genesis of modern science. The sheer weight of its history can be enough to make it a bit of a bore sometimes, especially if you’re with someone intent on going to every museum and learning about all the mythology and everything that’s happened in the past few millennia.

But Crete is anything but boring, even if you do get caught up in the history. This is because the history is still there, both in its landscapes, its ruins, and its towns and villages. The Palace of Knossos is one of the most famous landmarks, considering it has been around for thousands of years. And it is incredibly striking and will leave a lasting impression.

However, my favorite piece of living history is the Old Town in Rethymnon. Rethymnon’s Old Town is a seaside village that dates back to the 11th century. Quaint does not begin to describe it. Renaissance architecture with Turkish influences, endless alleys to explore, and excellent food in little stores throughout. I could spend weeks there, just wandering around, and I guarantee you’ll find something there to love.

Endless Natural Beauty

While you may associate ancient history with dust and ruins, Crete’s landscape is a vibrant beauty to behold. It has a nice variety of natural wonders, which you can experience however you like.

If you just want to relax in an unimaginable paradise, Elafonisi Beach is ideal. Its pink-tinted sands make it unlike any beach you’ve lounged on before. The crystal clear water rivals any island fantasy you may have concocted. Feeling a bit adventurous? Simply cross the shallow lagoon to a small island with a lighthouse, chapel, and hundreds of interesting plant species.

Those who like getting a bit of exercise on their travels will treasure the Samaria Gorge National Park. The gorge itself is one of the longest canyons in Europe. It is a natural wonder and a sight to behold. You can spend a few hours hiking the area. It is a walk that most people will manage, but sunscreen and lots of water is recommended. It is open from May through October.

There are, of course, plenty more beaches and spots to hike. Vai Palm Beach is a particular favorite among tourists for its Caribbean-like beauty. Hiking around Balos Lagoon is a great way to get stunning pictures that will break your friends’ Instagram feeds.

Towns To Visit and Things To Do

Crete is not all about appreciating the aesthetics of ancient history and natural beauty. There is also plenty to do there. Every town on the island has its own special charm. Loutro, for example, is a tiny fishing village that is relatively cut off from the rest of the island. It is not flooded with tourists and you will feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem. You can’t even get there by land, after all, but will have to take a boat or attempt a mountainous climb.

Then there’s the city of Chania, which is gorgeous to look at while having a heck of a lot of activities to do. It is one of the biggest cities throughout the Greek Islands, after all. The Venetian Harbour, the old lighthouse, and the Agora Marketplace are the perfect start. It has its fair share of historical attractions as well, including the 16th century Firka Fortress and the Archaeological Museum which will give you an insight into how the ancient Minoans once lived.

Some other unmissable activities include a visit to the Cretaquarium which is home to over 2,000 sea animals. The shark tank is a particular favorite with travelers, especially if you love getting close to majestic animals without giving them the chance to cause you permanent damage!

Crete is a wondrous place that will never fail to keep me coming back. In an ideal world, I would get the chance to live there for a few years. As is, I’m happy to settle with frequent returns.

Sugar Eyeshadow Quad in Disturbia

Bliscent Peppermint Foot Soak and Bella Voste Nail Paint are full sized and I like both of them.

Aroma Magic cream is a good hand cream size for bag, I prefer 30ml/30g samples though, it’s too less. The Alanna scrub is too expensive for the price. The qty is good for few uses if used as a face scrub, for body it would only work for single use.

Total value pf the products come to around Rs.1500/- I am really happy with three full sized products and I highly recommend this month’s Fab Bag!

Bollywood Actresses Who Nailed The Punjabi Kudi Look

Bollywood Actresses Who Nailed The Punjabi Kudi Look

By Nidhal

There is something indescribable about an archetypal Punjabi kudi, isn’t it? An aura of cheerfulness, pertness with oodles of vivaciousness and a my-way- or-the- highway attitude that she naturally exudes – Punjabi ladies compel one to take a second, more relaxed look at the firebrand lasses.

Why This Generation Should Experience The New Alternatives to Smoking?

Why This Generation Should Experience The New Alternatives to Smoking?

This generation is all about making a mark, leaving an impact & thus we see the emergence of new trends. I think we are privileged to be a part of this amazing revolution that technology has given us. Be it the huge success of Snapchat or the advent of selfies or the popularity of a Gangnam style! Well, isn’t our generation the quirkiest?

via GIPHY

Another trend which has hit the Indian markets is, E- cigarettes! Just when we thought that there is no substitute to smoking; this generation witnessed an influx of E-Cigarettes and other vaporizers.

Well, this is enough proof that time is flying & technology is changing rapidly. I mean, who would have thought that a funny move in a video on YouTube will become the trend of the decade- Gangnam Style or technology as a major pillar in election campaigns?

Similarly, we have witnessed the evolution of various styles of smoking. It all started with cigars and rolled tobacco. And now it’s time to embrace e-Cigarettes & vaporizers.

Vaping as trend is still at its nascent stage and it is about time that it becomes one of the leading options as the substitute for smoking.  We are a generation that has been spoilt with choices, E- cigarettes & sugar free nicotine chewing gums are only the tip of the iceberg of options for smarter alternatives to smoking.

The fact that vaping & e-cigarettes’ are a smarter alternative to smoking has made millions of health conscious smokers, especially the Millennials, switch to this method which is tar & smoke free.

Smoking puts a financial dent in our lives too. It is no secret that chain smokers spend a good amount every month on cigarettes’, which leads to burning a hole in their pockets. E-Cigarettes like EON are way cheaper than other alternatives available in the market.

So the emerging trends of E-cigarettes, vapors are not only pushing you towards a better life but also towards a better option monetarily.  If we do the math, it’s pretty easy to figure out that the cost of buying cigarettes for daily consumption is way higher than the cost of a vapor or a set of nicotine chewing gums.

The nicotine fixes that a smoker needs is taken care of by all these substitutes and instead of borrowing a light, one can now simply grab an E-Cigarette and inhale vapor with a variety of flavors instead of the smoke from a regular cigarette. Amongst the array of benefits of products like nicotine patches or E-Cigarettes from EON, is that they are now readily available.

Talking about effectiveness, these newly emerged methods are gaining wide appeal. Also, the absence of the multitudes of chemicals and tar makes it technically not smoking, it’s vaping. One does not need to take heed of the ‘no smoking’ signs anywhere as it’s just vapor that is being exhaled and no smoke comes out of it.

The trend is taking over the entire generation that is tech savvy and health conscious and for all the right reasons!

Whether you switch to E-cigarettes’ or vaping or chewing gums, it doesn’t matter as long as you switch. Just switch NOW!

Best Off-Screen Looks of Katrina Kaif

By Nidhal

When she gyrates, she holds you transfixed. When she shows off her curves, she holds you transfixed. When she sets her foot on the red carpet, she holds you transfixed. The lady may not rank high on the charts of film connoisseurs and critics but she surely knows how to be the talk of the town thanks to her high-octane dance moves, angelic visage and enviable body/curves. She’s none other than the statuesque Katrina Kaif. Let us have a rundown of her Best Off-screen looks now.

1. IN REBECCA TAYLOR- Bringing a boho vibe to her off-screen avatars, Katrina opted for a printed block print maxi dress by Rebecca Taylor that had sheer mesh inserts as well as cut out sleeves during one of the promotional events of Fitoor opposite Aditya Roy Kapoor. With her luscious locks let loose and nude makeup, she was an out-and- out head-turner at the event.

2. IN DOLCE AND GABBANA- Clad in a lemon print off shoulder dress from Dolce and Gabbana, Katrina set out to promote Fitoor. Accessorising it with embellished beige pumps from Charles and Keith, she added a pair of gold earrings from Loupe Kat looked like a diva. Not to forget red lips complement her look very well.

3. IN BODICE- Giving everyone a peak-a- boo to her chiselled and absolutely enviable abs, Katrina draped herself in polka printed culottes from Bodice by Ruchika Sachdeva. She teamed it up with a white crop top by Dhruv Kapoor and matching sneakers. The look delineates comfort, chicness and ease, doesn’t it? Sassy without even trying, that’s what bursts upon my mind on seeing this look of hers.

4. IN MSGM- Swathed in a knitted bandage dress from MSGM‘s resort 2016 collection paired with Eytys white sneakers styled by Tanya Ghavri, the statuesque lass looked drop-dead gorgeous during one of the promotional events for Fitoor.

Despite sporting colours which when teamed up may look gaudy or garish, the lady sashays in aplomb. A special mention goes to her Isharya earrings that are the perfect cherry on the cake.

Editor’s Note: Loved each of the seven, I can’t pick one! I absolutely love her style, very minimal and effortless.

New Whisper #UltraSoft Event & Review

New Whisper #UltraSoft Event & Review

Hi guys,

I attended the launch of Whisper Ultra Soft last week and I even used it last week. Actually, the very same day 😀

I had my date around the event and I had to use it right after the event and thankfully we got the new Whisper Ultra Soft in our PR bag.

Radhika Apte and Dr. Nandita Palshetkar, a renowned gynecologist were present for the event and they both talked about how important it is for a girl to be comfortable during her periods and it should be like any other day for her. Also we should be comfortable talking about it and not consider it as a taboo.

Dr. Nandita also spoke about menstrual hygiene and how it is very important. We should take care of basic things like washing the vagina properly, not using harsh soap and keeping it dry. Changing the pads regularly every 4-5 hours and cleaning the vagina and the surrounding area well.

[fbvideo link=”https://www.facebook.com/YouGoGirlIndia/videos/1393407764013868/” width=”700″ height=”500″ onlyvideo=”1″]

We also saw a demo during the event where the new Whisper Ultra Soft and another pad was compared. Both had liquids poured onto them and on squeezing, the other pad leaked out all the liquid while nothing came out of the Whisper Ultra Soft, not even a drop. It takes in all the flow and converts it into a gel immediately.

The ‘New Whisper Ultra Soft’ offers superior comfort that feels 2x softer on skin while absorbing wetness hour after hour.

I have used the other green Whisper before and was only using that untill now. But this new Ultra Soft absorbs everything and leaves the top layer completely dry, something I have not experienced even with the old Whisper. Also after my periods get over, I get rashes and itching because of the pads which last 1-2 days. That happens each time and with all the different pads I have tried till date. I was so glad this new Whisper Ultra Soft didn’t give me any rashes or itchiness.

The doctor had mentioned the new Whisper Ultra Soft is meant for sensitive skin and yes, it surely is. These are also very thin and almost half the size in width compared to their previous one. I have to say, Whisper Ultra Soft are the most comfortable pads I have used till now.

I was using them throughout my periods last week. Next day after this event, I had 3 back to back events and I was out from morning 11 to 8 at night. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at any moment, thanks to the new Whisper. I did carry one along in my bag, and changed it in between.

It’s a pack of 7 pads and priced at Rs.64/-. I love the whole pink and white packaging too. I highly recommend trying them, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Have you tried the new Whisper Ultra Soft yet?

Feb 2017 Fab Bag Unboxing & Review

Feb 2017 Fab Bag Unboxing & Review

Hi guys,

I got my Feb Pucker Up Fab Bag today and quickly unboxed it.

MRP: Rs.599/- per month (Buy HERE)

Read my previous Fab Bag reviews:

I love the lipgloss and lip print on the bag for the ‘Pucker Up’ thing, it is absolutely perfect. And even the bag is quite nice for travel.

Products I got:

  • Sugar Liquid Lipstick Smudge Me Not in Suave Mauve- Full size (Rs.499)
  • Matra Holistic Lip Care in Kiwi- Full size (Rs.199)
  • Just Herbs Lively Clean Honey Exfoliating Facial Cleansing Gel- 50ml (Rs.230)
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo Floral & Flirty Blush in Cherry- Full size 50ml (Rs.299)

I had an option to pick one shade from the Sugar Liquid Lipstick and since I already had 4, I went with Suave Mauve which I didn’t have. Check the review and swatches of all 4 HERE

It’s a very pretty dusty nude mauve, great for fair to medium skin tones.

I love the Matra Lip Balm, it smells really refreshing and the ingredients has lot of good essential and base oils.

I have tried Just Herbs Honey Face Wash and Batiste Dry Shampoo before, like both. Glad I have it in mini sizes now, for travel.

Overall, the total price of the products in this month’s bag is Rs.1230/-. I wouldn’t say it’s a must buy but if you wanted to try Sugar Liquid Lipstick anyway, then you get 3 additional products plus the bag for just Rs.100/- extra, so that’s a good deal.

What did you get in your Feb Fab Bag?

DIY Vegan Hair Mask for Soft & Healthy Hair

DIY Vegan Hair Mask for Soft & Healthy Hair

Guest Post by Louisa

We all know that eating foods which are rich in vitamins and minerals is essential to achieve healthy looking hair. But you can also give your strands a boost by applying natural fruits and oils on your hair. See how easy it is with my simple vegan hair mask.

As traditional shampoos contain harsh detergents and chemicals, I only use the best organic shampoos and conditioners to make sure I’m using gentle cleansing agents made with natural ingredients. This way I’m not undoing any of the goodness delivered by my hair mask treatment.

Avocado

Using avocado in a hair mask is a great way of infusing your hair and scalp with moisture. It has so many beneficial properties they are difficult to count, and include potassium, amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

If you’ve noticed any new hair takes a long time to grow, it could be due to a nutritional deficiency. Avocado is the perfect way to nourish hair cells, strengthen roots and encourage new hair growth.

Banana

Adding banana to a hair mask is a great way to rejuvenate your hair. They are as good for your hair as they are for you to eat, and can help soften hair and protect its natural elasticity.

Bananas deliver Vitamin A, B, C, E, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium. These nutrients can help repair and condition hair, making it softer and more manageable, as well as helping to protect from damage caused by heat styling or harsh weather.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk has excellent moisturising properties, and acts as a natural detangler. It contains healthy fats which can be beneficial for stimulating hair growth, as well as repairing hair that feels dull or damaged.

Massaging coconut milk into your scalp can help improve blood circulation and promote healthier roots. It also has natural antifungal properties which can fight Malassezia, one of the main causes of dandruff.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the best multitasking hair care products around. It can help strengthen hair, condition your scalp and even stimulate new hair growth. It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and lauric acid, and effectively penetrates the hair shaft to deliver these nutrients.

Applying coconut oil before exposing your hair to heat or chemical treatments can help protect it from drying out, and also acts as a natural sunscreen. It’s the perfect ingredient to use in a moisturising hair mask, and will make it easier to brush out any tangles and control frizz.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains oleic acid, palmitic acid and squalene, which are natural emollients with softening qualities. Many products contain synthetic versions of emollients, but they aren’t as effective in penetrating the hair shaft to help retain natural moisture.

Undernourished hair can be hard to style, and often breaks when you’re trying to work through tangles. Olive oil can smooth cuticles and split ends, which helps to reduce frizz and makes hair more manageable.

Ingredients

– 1/2 Avocado

– 1/2 Banana

– 50 ml Coconut Milk

– 2 tbsp Coconut Oil

– 1 tbsp Olive Oil

Method

Blend all the ingredients together until you have a very smooth mixture. This will make it easier to spread throughout your hair, and won’t leave any annoying clumps behind when you wash it out later.

Apply the mixture all over your hair and scalp, making sure your skin is saturated so it can benefit from all the essential nutrients. As the ends of your hair are driest, you can start at the tips and work your way up.

Leave the hair mask on for 15 to 20 minutes. You can put a towel over your shoulders to avoid getting messy, and then use a shower cap to avoid any dripping.

Wash your hair with a natural shampoo, making sure you thoroughly rinse out the mixture. It’s best to use lukewarm water to protect your skin’s natural oils, and seal in its moisture.

You can use your usual conditioner as well, and your strands should feel soft and easy to detangle. By infusing it with protein, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, you should have noticeably healthier looking hair.

7 Times Katrina Kaif Scorched the Screen With Her Abs

7 Times Katrina Kaif Scorched the Screen With Her Abs

By Nidhal

I remember the first time I heard of abs was in 2009.Om Shanti Om starring SRK and Deepika Padukone was about to hit the theatres. Promotions of the flick were inescapable. The star cast was practically everywhere- on each and every TV show, radio show, newspapers and internet. And adding to the hysteria was SRK’s dance number ‘Dard-E- Disco’ which had him flaunt his six-pack abs.

The flick released amidst a lot of fanfare and hue and cry (remember the Manoj Kumar versus Farah/SRK controversy?). The rest is history. We know how it set cash registers ringing at the Box Office. A year or two later, Aamir Khan came with his 8-pack abs in Ghajni and then, lead me into believing that abs are men’s domain.

But one day, Katrina Kaif happened and bwoy, her abs got me smitten the way no male actor’s did 🙂 So, here is to this statuesque lady’s well-toned abs – 7 times Katrina Kaif scorched the screen with her abs.

1. AT THE IPL’S OPENING CEREMONY- The ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off with a star-studded opening ceremony in 2016. With international names such as Chris Brown and Major Lazer performing alongside Bollywood A-listers, all what grabbed the maximum limelight was Katrina’s well-toned abs as she danced energetically. In fact, Ranveer Singh was compelled to mouth,” Give it up for Katrina’s abs”. Well, appositely said, Ranveer.

2. WHEN ON THE RAMP FOR MANISH MALHOTRA’S FASHION SHOW- B-town hot-property Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were the perfect show stoppers for designer Manish Malhotra, who launched his collection ‘The Regal Threads’ in January. Walking the ramp in a silver Manish Malhotra lehenga, Katrina swept us off our feet with her perfect abs.

3. ON THE COVER OF GQ INDIA- Setting temperatures soaring with her abs making a no-holds barred appearance on the cover of GQ India, Katrina is a sight to behold (and desire)!

4. IN ‘EK THA TIGER’S’ SONG ‘MASHA-ALLAH’- As she swayed to the tunes of ‘Mashallah’ in the Salman Kahn-starrer Ek Tha Tiger in 2013, Katrina’s abs compel you to slobber.

5. IN ‘CHIKNI CHAMELI’- An out-and- out desi item number as it was, Chikni Chameli not only gave us the hook step of the year but also a chance to feast our eyes to this damsel’s chiselled abs.

6. IN ‘TEES MAAR KHAN’- Rome was not built in a day and so can be said about Kat’s abs which here, are in the process of becoming the weapons of mass destruction that they have turned out to be now. Katrina’s abs look sultry in this dance number from Tees Maar Khan.

7. IN ‘KALA CHASHMA’ FROM BAAR BAAR DEKHO- And here comes the song that has given us a full-blown no-holds barred view of this sultry lass’ chiselled abs that have overshadowed everything in the frame point blank. You have to admit it, you got ‘body goals’ after seeing Kat’s abs in the song ‘Kala Chashma’ from Baar Baar Dekho. As far as her co-star is concerned, sorry Siddharth but we didn’t even notice you.
