11 Simple Travel Makeup And Skin Care Tips

11 Simple Travel Makeup And Skin Care Tips

Guest Post by Chetana

I’m sure we all love travelling to get a much needed break from the monotonous and hectic life. Looking good and beautiful can be quite challenging while travelling, as it can be quite stressful, whether you’re covering a short distance or jetting halfway around the world. This article helps you to look beautiful and fresh even while travelling. With these helpful tips, you can face your next vacation, business trip or a family homecoming with utmost confidence.

Makeup and Skin Care Tips:

1. It is very important to moisturize your face well before travelling. Apply an intense moisturizer a night before the trip. This keeps your skin well hydrated while facing the dehydrating elements like cabin pressure. Apply a gel based moisturizer instead of cream based moisturizer, before heading for the journey to avoid your skin from getting oily.

2. Skip the foundation. It is important to let your skin breath while travelling. Most importantly, you wouldn’t want makeup dripping from your face before landing or reaching your destination. You must have noticed that celebrities often opt for a complete no makeup look while travelling. You can wear a tinted moisturizer if you want. Carry a facial mist with yourself to freshen up the face.

3. Apply waterproof gel based eyeliner or pencil liner on the lids and avoid applying kohl as they might smudge while travelling.

4. Skip long lasting lipsticks. They might sound appealing for a long journey, but they dry out and leave the lips parched and dehydrated.  Lip stain is a better option than long lasting lipsticks. Layer your lips with several coats of lip stains, let it dry and then top it with a clear gloss. This will keep the lip moisturized and provides a colour at the same. Reapply the gloss for a freshly applied look. Or, you can also apply a lip treatment or lip butter during the journey to keep the lips hydrated.

5. Watching back to back movies on a long flight or constant reading can leave you with watery eyes. Carry eye drops with yourself to lubricate or soothe the eyes while watching movies or to refresh your eyes after waking up from a nap. Or carry pre moistened eye pads or gel eye masks to soothe and refresh eyes during flight.

6. Avoid wearing mascara for a long journey. It will leave you with panda eyes or trail down the cheeks after waking up from a sleep.

7. Carry some blotting papers or rice paper to blot excess oil from the skin. This way you can dab the shine and excess oil off your skin without striping off the moisture.

8. Avoid touching your face while travelling. Your hand attracts a lot of unknown bacteria while travelling which can lead to breakouts and other skin problems, even if you touch your face unknowingly. If you want to touch up while travelling, then wash your hands with an antibacterial soap before touching the face.

9. Skip bright nail paints while travelling and stick to neutral and nude nail paint shades, as bright nail paints chip easily. Nude nail paints do not chip much and even if they do, they are less likely to get detected when you’re wearing nude hue nail paint.

10. Apply a soft, peachy shade of blush to get a nice flushed looks. Avoid bright pink or red shades of blush and avoid applying eye shadow completely.

11. Apply a hand cream liberally throughout the trip to prevent your hands from drying out.

Makeup and Skin Care Essentials:

a. Invest in a travel or skin care kit to keep you skin in check and hydrated while travelling. Avoid washing your face and hands with hotel soap.

b. Face wipes are an absolute essential while travelling. It is extremely handy especially while travelling in buses where you don’t have a sink nearby. Facial wipes are extremely important in clearing the grime and dirt from your face.

c. You don’t need to lug around your entire vanity for regular touch ups. Carry a handy mini or travel makeup kit while travelling. An Inglot customized palette would be a good recommendation. You can store a blush pan, a powder pan and 3 round refill pans where you can store you eye shadow, lip colour and concealer.

d. Do not cram your makeup brushes into your luggage as it can leave you with bent bristles and broken handles. Even better, pack your brushes in a separate pencil case to avoid damage. There are travel makeup brushes available which you can stock for travelling purpose.

e. Carry your personal shower gel, shampoo and conditioner while travelling. All three of them are available in travel sizes so availability shouldn’t be a problem as such.

7 Spring Makeup Trends and Skin Care Tips to Try

7 Spring Makeup Trends and Skin Care Tips to Try

Spring is well on its way, and with the new season comes time to not only change up your wardrobe, but your beauty routine and products as well. Pull out all of your products and see what you need to switch out.

Winter weather typically brings dry air and bitter winds, so you likely have a drawer full of heavy moisturizers, eye creams and foundation that can be set aside for a while. It’s time to pack those away and try out the new trends for spring. What’s great about the spring 2012 trends is that there is something for everyone, from bold to fearless to professional or reserved, you’ll find something new to try.

Fresh Faced: Before you consider any product change, get your skin in the best condition by exfoliating and using a face mask. Exfoliating your entire body two to three times per week as well and use a weekly face mask depending on your skin’s needs. Exfoliation will blast away the last remnants of dry winter skin.

Ditch the Heavy Foundation: We love a creamy foundation for winter, but change it out for a tinted moisturizer for spring and summer. No need to buy a new product; make your own by mixing your current liquid or cream foundation with your moisturizer.

Enhance Your Eyes: This spring is all about small pops of color, and your eyelids are the perfect place for that pop. Orange, pinks, blues, and greens – pick your favorite and go for color this spring. We’re also seeing an increase of the strong brow look (not to be confused with unkempt brows) and eyeliner pulled out into a cat-eye look. We’re personally admiring those two looks from afar, but if you’re bold enough, this is the time to find your inner kitty.

Sporty Cheeks: Sporty-flushed cheeks are hot this spring. And lucky for you, you don’t have to be a runner to get the look. Pick a creamy pink or peach blush like NYX Cream Blush in Hot Pink or Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Calypso Coral this spring. Put on your favorite pair of yoga pants and let everyone think you just came out of the gym. We won’t tell.

Lucious Lips: There is a lip trend for everyone this spring. Glossy or matte – take your pick. Glossy pink is hot, hot, hot, and so easy everyone to wear. We are loving NYX Extreme Lip Cream  for just about every skin tone. But if you want matte lips, try a nude or light pink such as Colorbar Velvet Matte in Bare or Thrilling Pink.

Hint of Glow: Don’t dig out the self-tanner just yet. Using an illuminating bronzer will give your face the illusion of inner glow without the fakeness of an early tan. Apply in moderation to the areas of your face that naturally hit the sun, plus your collarbone and your bare shoulders for a natural radiance.

The Most Important Step: Sunscreen! We hope you’ve been wearing a facial sunscreen all winter long, but in case you haven’t, start now. A mineral sunscreen like Clarins UV Plus Dayscreen is so light it’s is almost invisible. The sun is responsible for most of your aging signs so apply after your foundation and again as needed throughout the day.

Here is Rohini after the complete make up..

For the Volumising style Sudeep used the TIGI Catwalk Volume Collection Your Highness Root Boost Spray..at the roots on the crown and the Firm Hold Spray and after styling…with the Weightless Shine Spray at the end. And some big rollers at the centre where the volume is needed..I was told the bigger the size the more the volume..and the biggest curler should be used at the front.

I asked what colors he recommends for medium Asian skin with warm undertones and the fool proof way to do smokey eyes..

Here is his answer..

Hi Bhumika

For your skintone always select colours with a yellow or olive undertone to look most natural, this would be amber, orange, caramel colours. If you choose blue-based colours they will be more dramatic and self-expressive. When doing smokey eyes always do this before your foundation to help you maintain a clean area under the eye. To lift underneath the smokey eye, try an apricot concealer tone or peach to lift the eye upwards.

Some other questions and advices I liked..

1) any tips to stop eyeshadow creasing?

Always prepare the skin and start with a matte base to ensure your make-up has the best longevity.

2) Illamasqua Powder Blush for Contouring?

If you have a light to medium skinton you can try Heroine powder eyeshadow and use this as a cheek contour. If you prefer a cream to contour the cheeks try Hollow Cream Pigment. If you are a deeper skintone you can try Disobey powder blusher which is a mid-amber tone suitable for contouring.

3) Hi Alex and David, What advice would you give to an artist who is naturally very shy? I’ve struggled with the social aspect of freelancing but have a very strong art sense. I don’t want to give up on my dream because I’m a bit of a wall flower. I could use some tips!

Be confident in your ability and that confidence will help you open dialogue and interact in the settings you will come into contact with. Assist others who inspire you and also who will help you gain confidence. Even the people that seem the most outwardly confident are not always as they appear and like every circumstance, never judge a book by its cover – they are probably as nervous and scared as you may have felt at times.

I loved this answer ! 🙂 It was only for an hour..and thats why many questions were not answered..

I hope you find it useful 🙂

10 Pro Makeup Commandments-Mickey Contractor

Makeup Commandments by none other than Mickey Contractor !!

Vogue Beauty Awards 2011 judge and Creative Director for MAC, Mickey Contractor is Bollywood’s favourite makeup artist. Read on to find out his answers on whether you can colour coordinate your makeup to your outfit, how to choose a foundation shade, double agent beauty products and the one International makeup trend you must try.

1. Always moisturize your skin before applying makeup. It makes for smooth application of concealer and foundation.

2. Use a foundation that is closest to your natural skin tone so when you sweat, you are left with patches of colour on your skin.

3. To find a foundation that matches your skin tone, draw a stripe of the shade from your cheek bone to your jaw line. Try a few shades and wait for 20 -30 minutes to see if the shade deepens on oxidation. Finally pick a shade that matches the tone on your neck best.

4. For a simple dewy look, reverse your makeup application and apply foundation last. Use powder sparingly and restrict it to the T zone

5. Do not match your makeup to your outfit. Go for a look that suits you rather than looking to colour coordinate with your clothes.

6. For a monochromatic look, use a cream blush in a nude or peach colour on your cheeks, lips and eyes.

7. If you haven’t yet got on the bronzing trend, this is the time to try it. It is big internationally and works wonders. A golden hue is easy and works on various skin tones.

8. An eyeliner is a great tool to use. However, use it only if you are good at it. Never attempt applying an eyeliner in a hurry.

9. On deeper skin tones, always pair a lighter shade of eye shadow with a darker colour along the crease to create depth and to contour your eye.

10. Be open to experimenting with your makeup products. An orange eye shadow will work as a blush in a pinch. Look for shades and textures that work double time to get more out of a single product.
