L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Hair Masque Review

By Monika

Hello to all the NLM readers!!!

L’Oreal is currently one of the leading brands in the market be it for hair care, makeup or skin care. Since I take care of my hair a tad bit more than my skin I was eyeing for a good hair masque after all, some extra care for your hair wouldn’t do any harm. As mentioned earlier L’Oreal is widely known for its hair care range so it only seemed fair that I bought the masque from their Total Repair 5 Range. Continue reading, to know my views on the product and how I use it.

Price and quantity: Rs 369 for 200gms (Buy HERE)

Shelf life: Best before 3 years from the date of packaging

Directions for use: Gently massage into washed and towel dried hair. Leave it on for 2 minutes for intensive treatment.

Product Claims

  • Hair is nourished, smoother, stronger.
  • Helps fight the signs of hair damage.

Ingredients: Water, cetearyl alcohol, mineral oil, dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium, methosulfate cetyl estres, lactic acid, phenoxyethanol, tridecth-6,chlorhexidine digluconate, limonene, linalool, benzyl salicylate, amodimethicone, 2-oleamido- 1, 3-octadecanediol, fragrance, cetrimonium chloride, butyl phenyl methylpropional, hexyl cinnamal.

My views on the product

The packaging of the product is somewhat similar to other products of the total repair 5 range apart from the fact that this hair masque comes in a tub. I personally would have preferred a tube or a bottle instead of the tub since, that ensures hygienic application. Otherwise, the packaging would have scored a perfect 10 for; the red colored cap along with the white colored tub which has white and golden detailing is extremely eye catching.

The tub is quite sturdy and leak proof so that you can carry it around while travelling. If you are carrying this in your travel bag or, for that matter if you are using it at home on towel dried hair you can most definitely skip your conditioner since it does condition the hair. There is not one specific way by which I use this product but, multiple ways which include using it as a mask before washing my hair, using it as a conditioner on towel dried hair after washing it. When used as a conditioner I leave it on for a good 5 minutes and then rinse it off with water. At times when my hair is feeling especially dry I take a pea sized amount of the product and use it as a leave-in conditioner. I have an oily scalp with slightly dry ends so I use this mask only at the ends but people with dry hair can go all out and use it onto their scalp as well as the ends. All of this being said, make sure that you use this mask not more than twice a week because the alcohol present in the ingredient list can be a bit drying.

The white colored mask has a pleasant fragrance which stays on the hair for 1-2 days after the wash. The texture as well as the working action is exactly similar to a conditioner and I see no reason why someone should pay extra amount of money for something that is no different from a conditioner. I, in particular had high expectations from the mask but it did nothing extraordinary apart from the general conditioning. The brand claims to help fight 5 signs of hair damage but even with regular usage I did not find any major difference in my hair. It does nothing to improve the hair texture, strength, shine and growth. This is one of the few products that I regret buying since it doesn’t live up to the expectations and is not cost-effective.

Pros:

  • Availability
  • Conditions hair
  • Travel-friendly packaging
  • Can be used in multiple ways
  • Pleasant fragrance

Cons:

  • Doesn’t help fight the 5 signs of hair damage
  • Heavy on the pocket
  • Can a bit drying coz of alcohol

Rating: 2/5

Final word

I wouldn’t recommend this mask to anyone and for the people who really are eager to try out the product can just try the conditioner from this range and that in itself would give similar results in spite of shelling out less money.

Editor’s Note: Sounds ok. Though I feel it’s not very expensive, coz all hair masques in the market are priced around the same.

Fabindia Tea Tree Essential Oil Review

Fabindia Tea Tree Essential Oil Review

By Monika

Hello everyone!!

I was on the lookout for a good product to treat acne since a long time and that is when, I read about how tea tree oil works wonders for acne. My main concern, was deciding whether to buy the Fabindia one or The Body Shop one but, I came to the conclusion that I’ll buy the fabindia one given that, I’ll have to shell out only half the amount .So without further ado, I headed straight to the fabindia store and bought myself the tea tree oil which is supposedly to work wonders for acne as well dandruff the latter not being a major problem in my case.. To know more about my experience with the product read on.

Price and quantity: Rs. 350 for 10 ml

What the product claims: This oil helps combat dandruff and acne. Fumes help in easing nasal congestion

Ingredients: Tea tree essential oil.

My views on the product

The product comes in a dark blue colored glass bottle with a screw cap which, has a dropper inside that makes sure that, you use the product sparingly which is very important in case of essential oils. I wouldn’t carry the product around as; I would have the constant fear of breaking it. I apply a few drops of the oil with a Q tip at night only on my acne avoiding the eye area. The oil has an extremely strong fragrance and causes a stinging sensation as soon as applied which, I am ready to forsake if it actually worked for acne. But to my disdain it did not, and the next day I saw 2 new pimples on my face. The effect probably varies from person to person but for my skin it clearly did no good .I continued using this product for a few days only because I didn’t want to waste my money but, it did nothing about the acne or the scars.

This product has ensured that I wouldn’t buy any product with tea tree oil in it cause of the recurrent acne that I saw on my face with regular usage of the product.

Pros:

  • Lasts for a long time since you have to use only a few drops in a single application
  • Comes with a dropper
  • Comes with a screw cap which prevents leakage

Cons:

  • Doesn’t reduce acne or scars
  • Causes stinging sensation
  • Overpowering smell
  • Can cause dry patches on skin
  • Not travel friendly

Final word

I would not recommend this product to anyone since, it has proven to be a complete waste of every penny spent and would do nothing about the acne instead, it would cause more harm like dry patches on skin. So, if you are looking for a good tea tree oil then, this is definitely not the one.

Rating: 1/5

Editor’s Note: Oo..I am surprised this didn’t work because I have heard a lot of good things about the Fabindia oils too. The Body Shop one is definitely amazing, I have tried that. I think you should try The Body Shop one.

Have you tried the Fabindia Tea Tree Oil? Did you have the same experience?

Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Aromatic Skin Toner Review

Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic Aromatic Skin Toner Review

By Monika

Hello everyone!!!

I was on the lookout for a natural, economical skin toner to add to my night routine since I kept reading about the importance of a good CTM routine (cleansing, toning and moisturizing) and the wonders that it can do to your skin if, followed religiously. Out of the toners available in the market aroma magic toner appealed to me the most since, only natural ingredients were used in making this toner and considering the price it seemed like a good bet. So, without further ado I went ahead and purchased my very first toner from Purplle. To know my views on the same continue reading.

Directions for use: Spray onto face directly or on a small piece of cotton and dab onto face. Avoid the eye area. Use me morning and night after cleansing. Follow it up with the oily skin oil.

Ingredients: Aqua, punica granatum juice, glycerol, hamamelis, Virginia leaf water, punica granatum extract, rosmarinus officinalis essential oil, canaga odorata essential oil, lavandula angustifolia essential oil, mentha piperita essential oil.

Claims

  • Free of alcohol, parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates, artificial fragrance and color.
  • Cleanses and tones without drying out the skin.
  • Renews the skin cells and increases the circulation in it.
  • Prevents moisture loss.
  • Acts as a natural astringent that calms and balances the skin.
  • Delivers vital nutrients and vitamins to the skin.

Price and quantity: Rs 170 for 200 ml

Shelf life: 3 years from the date of manufacture.

My experience with the product

The product comes in a transparent bottle with a flip cap. Even though, it says on the bottle that one can spray the toner directly onto the face but it is not necessarily possible to do that, with a flip cap. The cap is not that sturdy and is prone to leakage so I wouldn’t recommend carrying it around while travelling. The name suggests that the toner is aromatic but to my dismay it has an extremely mild fragrance and I am not a big fan of it.

The toner has water like consistency so one has to use a cotton pad to apply onto the face. I apply this toner at night on cleansed face especially, avoiding the eye area as said on the bottle because the under eye area being even more sensitive is prone to drying. After applying the toner I leave it on for a few minutes to dry and then, follow it up with a moisturizer. The colorless toner does clean the skin but cannot double up as a makeup remover.

Since, I have oily skin I bought the one meant for the same but, it doesn’t control the oil secretion or reduce breakouts. However, it does tighten the pores and soothes the skin which is fairly good for a toner at this price range. Considering the fact that the product is a bit drying and is meant for oily skin I don’t see any reason why people with dry skin should use this toner.

I would like to conclude by saying that this economical toner doesn’t do much apart from tightening the pores and I would definitely not repurchase this since, I would like to try the new ones in the market and find the one that best suits my skin.

Pros:

  • Tightens pores
  • Calms the skin of any irritation
  • Free of alcohol, parabens and petrochemicals
  • Not tested on animals
  • Easily available
  • Economical

Cons:

  • Not travel friendly
  • Doesn’t control oil secretio
  • Can be a bit drying
  • Extremely mild fragrance (contradictory to the name)

Rating: 3.5/5

Final word

All in all, this toner hasn’t been one of my best buys but, people looking for a decently priced toner can give this a shot and find out how it works for them.

Editor’s Note: Nice Review Monika, I usually like Aroma Magic products, this one seems to be ok. I have tried most of their face packs though, love them.

Have you tried Aroma Magic Aromatic Skin Toner yet? Which is your favourite toner?

Khadi Herbal Body Wash Rose and Honey Review

Khadi Herbal Body Wash Rose and Honey Review

By Monika

Hi to all the lovely people out there!!!!! This is my first time writing a beauty blog so do let me know in the comments below whether you find this review helpful or not .I was looking for a good, herbal and economical body wash for daily usage and that is when this product comes into picture which, I bought on one of my online purchases. This product has made me love khadi products even more so; to know more about the product and my opinion on it continue reading.

Price and quantity: Rs 130 for 210 ml (BUY HERE)

Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture

Product claims: Khadi rose and honey body wash indulges your senses with beautiful soap-free cleansing gel that will leave your skin feeling cleansed, refreshed and soft with a whisper of beautiful rose fragrance.

Directions for use: Apply to wet skin all over the body. Lather and rinse. Use daily if required.

Ingredients: Water, geranium oil, aloe vera, rose centifolia, ananas cosmosus, crocus sativus, azadircta, honey, base qs.

My experience with the product

The product comes in a transparent bottle through which you can see the lovely pink color of the gel. It has a sturdy flip cap that prevents leakage which makes the product extremely travel friendly. The packaging is common to all the khadi body washes in the market. I must say that, I am more of a shower gel person rather than soap and given the price it is a steal. The product has a pleasant smell of roses which dies down within minutes after you come out of the shower that according to me is a major drawback since; I expected the pleasant smell of roses to last a lot longer. The wash lathers very well and only a coin sized amount is required if used it with a loofah, rinsing off isn’t problem as well. Also, the cleansing action of the wash is very good, leaving the skin soft and supple. I personally would recommend using this wash with a loofah as it would make sure that you do not use excess of the wash and will last a lot longer. It has a gel like consistency and in my opinion would be suitable to all skin types. The gel based formulation is neither moisturizing nor drying and you may want to use a moisturizer depending on the climate. I would like to conclude by saying that, if you are looking a good wash for regular usage which is economical then it sure is a great buy ignoring the longevity of the fragrance.

Pros:

  • Cleanses well
  • Decently priced
  • Travel friendly
  • Great for regular usage
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Easily available (prefer buying it online as you can get some great discounts on this product, which I did)
  • Natural ingredients

Cons:

  • The fragrance does not last for a long time
  • It is not moisturizing so have to use a moisturizer after the bath which in my opinion you should anyways be doing.
  • Generic packaging

Rating: 4.5/5

Final word:

I would like to recommend this product to all you beauties, since it does its job pretty well without burning a hole in your pocket and would last a long time. I love it so much so that I have already restocked on the product.

Editor’s Note: This sounds quite good Monika, nicely reviewed 🙂 I will definitely try this.
