MUA Makeup Academy Ultra Fine Loose Setting Powder Review

MUA Makeup Academy Ultra Fine Loose Setting Powder Review

MUA Makeup Academy Ultra Fine Loose Setting Powder Review

By Divi

Hi Guys,

Whenever summers are around the corner we all need something to keep our makeup in place. There are loads of compacts and loose powders available in the market but we always get confused. I’m head over heels with this MUA Loose Powder. Let’s see how the product is!

Price: Rs.360 (approx) or 4 pounds for 18g!

Claims: Weightless, silky smooth loose powder for all skin tones. The delicate, colourless powder applies with an invisible finish over foundation and concealer to set and prolong makeup wear. The lightweight formula creates smooth, radiant skin, blends, effortlessly and removes any excess shine for a professional, even finish.

Ingredients: Silica

Packaging & Texture: The product comes in a small jar. The cover of the jar is of black colour and the jar is transparent. The jar has a plastic lid which has holes in it for the powder to come out which creates a mess sometimes like any other loose powder jar. The plastic lid can be removed as well, if you want to use large quantities of powder. The texture of the powder is very soft and lightweight.

Experience: I just love this loose powder. Although,it isn’t available in India but you can always get them from any instagram store. The powder is very finely milled so it doesn’t look powdery on face at all. But sometimes it tends to dry out my skin because I have combination skin , so my dry areas get a lil bit exaggerated in winters but in summers it works absolutely fine. If you’re from oily skin family, then you’re gonna totally dig it. The finish of the product is super amazing. It removes excess shine from the face and helps the makeup stay for a long time. Whenever I apply this to my undereyes, my concealer stays put longer. It just mattifies and air-brushes the skin. What I usually do is, I use facial oil beneath my foundation and illuminating primer so as to make my base dewy and after that I go with the translucent powder which mattifies the skin so beautifully without making my skin dry or exaggerating the dry patches. After using this powder, my skin looks legit flawless even in from a close-up look.

Pros:

  • Softly milled
  • Flawless finish
  • Affordable
  • Huge qty
  • Not powdery
  • Mattifies

Cons:

  • A bit drying
  • Not available in India

Rating: 4/5

I literally love this product! If you are thinking to buy it, then go for it! It’s worth the money! It does give a little bit of white cast, if flash is used during photography but if you set your face with a mist, you won’t get it much. It’s perfect for baking, and the qty of 18g will last you forever.

Have you tried the MUA Loose Powder yet?

MUA Pistachio Ice Cream Nail Varnish Review, NOTD

MUA “Pistachio Ice Cream” Nail Varnish Review, NOTD

By Magali

I spent the better part of 2013 looking for a perfect mint nail polish & I’m happy to say I finally found it!

Ingredients:

MUA Pistachio Ice Cream is a pigmented, milky mint creme. All you need is two coats to get a perfectly opaque finish. It comes in a mini bottle of 6.2ml for £1.

Interestingly enough, it’s also a near-perfect dupe for Essie’s cult favorite “Mint Candy Apple” at a fraction of the cost.

The only downside to the polish is the brush- the bristles are thick & cause a lot of streaking, it’s hard to get a nice finish. So you end up having to put thicker coats. With my Rimmel top coat it lasts around two days before I have any chips. Whether you’re using Acetone or a Nail Polish remover, this polish comes off easily.

If you’re looking for a mint polish at a very reasonable cost, I’d definitely recommend this one.

You can buy it online at http://www.muastore.co.uk/

Editor’s Note: I loveed the clicks Mag ! And love the mint color too..looks so chic on you..

MUA Merged Trio Eyeshadow Legendary Review, Swatches

MUA Merged Trio Eyeshadow Legendary Review, Swatches

What the Company claims: Fall in love with MUA’s new improved formula Merged Baked Eye Shadows

With three complimentary shades these blendable trios bring day, dusk and evening drama – just what every girl needs! Each contains two tone threads of colour creating a beautiful shimmer, sparkly enough to satisfy the glitter craving in you!

From your sexy nude tones with ‘Legendary’ to your sultry blues, each soft but durable trifecta of colour will hold up pigmentation for hours. Use the palest shade as a wash over the eye and under the lid, pop the middle shade in the inner corner and use the darkest shade blending out to the outer corner.

For highlighting the cheeks try using the lightest shade sweeping just above the cheekbone to create a pearly glow.

MRP: £3.00

MUA has come up with these merged baked eyeshadow trios..where you see different colored veins on one shadow..and so it looks different in different lights..kinda duochrome..

It comes in three variants: Theatrics, Emotions and Legendary..

I got the Legendary one..it has a frosty silver white, coppery pink with silver shimmer and a light frosty pink..as these are baked, can be used wet or dry..the colors are more intense when used wet..

It comes with a small dual sided sponge applicator..and actually baked eyeshadows work well with a sponge tip applicator..I use the same..

Dry Swatches
Wet Swatches

This trio is good for subtle everyday look..has a bit of fall out since its shimmery..but does not crease and stays for 5-6 hours with a primer..I quite like the highlighter shade..works well for the inner corners too..and the coppery pink when used wet..works well with Indian wear..overall a decent trio..but skip it if you do not like shimmer in eyeshadows.

I like the Theatrics more..the other two variants look more pigmented than the Legendary..

Rating:

Quality: 3.5/5
Value for money: 3.5/5
Availability: 3/5

Overall Rating: 3.25/5

Would I buy it again: May be the Theatrics

Makeup Master Class at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013

Makeup Master Class by Lakmé Absolute at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013

I attended the Day 3 of Lakme Fashion Week today..starting with the master class first..where Natasha Nischol spoke about the new makeup trends for autumn winter and demonstrated two looks on Sarah Jane Dias..here is the official press note..

Lakmé has been a trendsetter for decades and has created several outstanding looks for Indian fashion weeks. A first edition of an interactive Master Class series was conducted by Lakmé expert Natasha Nischol, who revealed how to achieve the Lakmé Absolute Royal looks that would stun the audience at the Grand Finale of the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. Purnima Lamba – Head of Innovation, Lakmé India, introduced Natasha Nischol on stage and invited her to demonstrate the season’s beauty statement to the audience.

The first ever Lakmé makeup Master Class was initiated by Natasha at The Source, Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013, who welcomed well known actress Sarah Jane Dias as a model for the session. A short clipping of Sarah Jane Dias, Lakmé’s Digital Ambassador, presenting make-up tutorials for beauty enthusiasts was screened.

Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation, Lakmé India said, “Lakmé has always supported emerging talent through various platforms like Gen Next and Talent Box at LFW. Extending this endeavour, we are proud to start a one-of-its kind Beauty Masterclass for the budding beauty enthusiasts. With the first session by Natasha Nischol, our attempt is to sustain this as a platform from where Lakmé announces the top international beauty trends and decoding them for the Indian audience every season.”

Wearing an Aartivijay Gupta maxi dress, Sarah Jane was glad to be a part of the Master Class and said that she had a lot of fun making the makeup tutorial videos with Lakmé. She mentioned that young girls around the country always have several queries regarding makeup, which Natasha addressed today.

Natasha demonstrated two key trends for the season – Red Lips by Day Look and Red Lips by Night Look, which are Lakmé’s beauty statement for the season. She reminisced about her mother dressing up, which was the beginning of her interest in make-up. She confessed that her first eyeliner and lipstick were coincidently Lakmé products, which she uses even today.

Natasha kick started the workshop by discussing current global make-up trends such as clean matte complexion, statement metallic eyes, futuristic eyeliner, petal/berry stained lips, invisible eyeliner, statement brows, 40’s femininity, 90’s inspired grunge, rock and roll and a statement red mouth.

She then demonstrated the Red Lips by Day look where a base of Lakmé CC light cream in a beige tone was already applied to Sarah’s face prior to the show. A compact from the Absolute range was used for definition followed by invisible eyeliner which gave the illusion of full lashes and mascara for volume.

Natasha followed it by staining Sarah’s lips with light red, after blotting the lip balm that she had put initially to ensure smooth application of the lipcolour. She added a little blush to her cheeks to add a dash of colour and blended it in. A brown smoky eye shadow was applied with an infusion of green, pink and gold metallics along with a hint of eyeliner.

Natasha shared a few tips – the more shades one blends in, the longer it stays and also said that she believes in the philosophy of ‘less is more’. According to her, makeup is something to have fun with and that day-by-day Indians are getting out of their comfort zones and experimenting with more colours.

Sarah confessed that fingers are the best way to apply makeup. The Red Lips by Night look was then taken up by adding highlights to the face with another layer of mascara and further blending in the four shades of the eye colour palette. A deep ‘Milan Red’ lipstick topped off with a ‘Red shine’ gloss was applied creating instant glamour. Natasha said that one should be careful with the amount of gloss that is applied and ensure it doesn’t look over the top.

The look was finished by giving Sarah’s nails a touch of Lakmé’s ‘Scarlet red’ Gel Stylist Nail Colour.

Natasha also shared tips for people to select the perfect red according to their skin tone. Sarah Jane Dias thanked Natasha for changing the misconception that red lips are difficult to carry off. Natasha mentioned that one should look after their skin in order to bring about your best. She also shared her personal skin care regime, which consisted of Lakmé best-sellers like Lakmé Clear Pores Facewash and Scrub, Youth Infinity Serum and CC cream.

Sarah questioned Natasha on more secrets to share and she willingly informed the audience that Absolute Eye Duos eye-shadows that can be used wet and dry insures a smudge free technique and can simply be doubled up for eyeliner. The Lakmé Kajal pencil is also an excellent way to create a black smoky eye clubbed in with a tinted foundation. Sarah also spoke about her personal makeup tricks like using Absolute baked blush with lip gloss to get an excellent lip stain.

The session ended with Natasha and Sarah answering queries from the audience after which Sarah posed for photos with the audience and Natasha for a Twitter update.

I also got my hair done at the Lakme Salon at the Source..many of you must have seen the pic on my facebook page.

And checked the new Absolute Royal Opulence Collection by Sabyasachi  at the Lakme Pro Stylist Lounge and attended the Amit Aggarwal show later on..had fun with Jyo from Everything that Matters..would do an outfit post soon..and also post swatches of the new collection 🙂

Did you like the tips shared at the Master Class ? And my new hairdo ? 😉

EOTD: Neutral Reddish Brown Eye Look

EOTD: Neutral Reddish Brown Eye Look

Guest Post by Reshma

Reshma created this reddish brown neutral look for us..

Products used:
Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the bronze as base.
MUA baked eyeshadow trio in Innocence
Makeup Geek eyeshadow in Cocoa Bear
Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara

Firstly apply the colour tattoo all over the lid as a base and keep it under the crease. Next apply the dark greenish brown shade from the MUA trio to the entire eyelid <number marked (1) in the picture> and also to the lower lashline.
Then apply the (2) colour to the inner corners and (3) from the same MUA trio to the brow bone for a highlight.
Using a blending brush pick up some of that cocoa bear and blend the colour in the crease. Since cocoa bear is a matte colour it gives dimension to the look.
Finally using a black gel eyeliner just line the top and bottom lash line.
Curl the lashes and apply mascara and your done!

This is a quick simple look which looks great with brown eyes and medium skin tones.

You can also use similar colours that you may already have in your collection. As this is a very neutral look you can easily recreate it.

Available in shades Rendez Vous, Irreplaceable, Crazy in Love, Runway, Justify and Broken Hearted

Ingredients:

MRP: £3.00

So after the Revlon Kissable Balm Stain and Lakme Pop Tint, I tried the MUA Power Pout..

Packaging wise its exactly like the Revlon Balm Stain..retractable packaging with a cap and shade wise outer body..and even has that peppermint smell..and cooling feeling..

Texture wise, its veryy balmy..super glossy..its so much like a balm..that it melts and breaks..as you can see..more balmy than the Clinique Chubby Sticks too..it even repairs chapped or dry lips..

But color wise, its not as sheer as the Chubby sticks..and more pigmented..and once the glossiness settles, it gives a nice color..and stays for 3-4 hours and leaves behind a stain..

Crazy in Love is a bright juicy raspberry shade with some shimmer..I just love it..how it looks all glossy and juicy on the lips…I do not have a shade as fresh and juicy as this, in my stash..

Pros:

1. Super balmy and moisturising..it even heals dry lips.
2. Pigmented..and leaves behind a stain..not sheer kinds.
3. Super affordable.
4. Decent quantity.
5. 6 shades to choose from.
6. Love the shade..very fresh and brightens up the face.
7. Does not settle in fine lines.
8. Has castor seed oil, jojoba oil, shea butter and waxes in ingredients..so obviously works great as a balm too.

Cons:

1. Available online.
2. Melts and breaks.

Overall I love these..I wanted to try one but now I regret not getting all :p These are super balmy yet pigmented..and super affordable..Highly Recommend !
