Book Review: The Homing Pigeons

Book Review: The Homing Pigeons by Sid Bahri

In the middle of the catastrophic 2008 recession, Aditya, a jobless, penniless man meets an attractive stranger in a bar, little does he know that his life will change forever…..

When Radhika, a young, rich widow, marries off her stepdaughter, little does she know that the freedom that she has yearned for is not exactly how she had envisioned it…..

They say Homing Pigeons always come back to their mate, no matter where you leave them on the face of this earth. Homing Pigeons is the story of love between these two unsuspecting characters as it is of lust, greed, separations, prejudices and crumbling spines.

The theme of this novel is ‘not all love stories are perfect but then, neither are people.’

The name and theme is just apt for the book..though its a debut novel for Sid Bahri, he definitely comes out like a pro.

The story is about Aditya and Radhika, their lives, their childhood, how they met, how they separated..and times and again met and separated..to finally meet at the end..which is quiet predictable from the name of the book..

But how..is all the crux..how their lives keep on changing..one chapter is narrated from the perspective of Radhika and another of Aditya..and they keep on going in the flashback in between..there are a few times when the whole chapter is in flashback and then suddenly comes to the present in the next..it could have left many confused..but the author manages to make it a good interesting read without confusing the readers..

Though the end is predictable, how everything happens is what brings out the curiosity in you and keeps you on the edge to keep on reading more..you would not feel like giving up the book unless you read what next !

Quiet an interesting read I would say ! Highly recommended..great work Sid !

Have you read The Homing Pigeons ?

Five Ways to Refresh your Look and Help you Gain Confidence

Five Ways to Refresh your Look and Help you Gain Confidence

Guest Post

Reevaluating your appearance occasionally is a good way to increase your confidence at home and work. This can mean taking time each day to take care of you instead of everyone else. It is important to schedule time for improving your mind and body.

Get a New Hairstyle
Many people have the same haircut and style for many years leading to an outdated appearance. Find a great beautician by talking to friends and family who have hairstyles you like. Schedule an appointment for a consultation concerning a new color and style that makes you look up-to-date.

Buy a New Wardrobe
If you are still wearing clothing from high school, then it is time to purchase a new wardrobe. Many older people are stuck in their teenage years, wearing tattered T-shirts, faded jeans and flip-flops constantly. Working adults are often too busy to remain current with the latest fashion trends. Overcome this obstacle by hiring a personal shopper to help choose the best clothes for your body. You don’t have to spend a lot on new clothes, add to your wardrobe little by little. Start with the staples like everyday work slacks or blouses.

Improve Your Smile
Stained and chipped tooth enamel changes the way your smile looks to others. Cosmetic dentistry procedures from a knowledgeable dentist are the perfect way to refresh your appearance and improve low confidence levels. Patients can receive teeth whitening treatments, porcelain veneers or dental implants to have a beautiful smile in just a few weeks from a professional dentist.

Frequent Exercise
Physical activity such as brisk walking, swimming or bicycling is a great way to keep muscles toned and maintain weight. Various forms of exercise also increase the oxygen levels in your entire body including the brain. Keeping your brain and body active is a great way to prevent mood disorders such as depression.

Consume a Better Diet
Living on a diet of greasy foods such as cheeseburgers and potato chips leads to having skin that has acne. An excellent way to have vibrant skin is to begin eating colorful vegetables and fruits that contain vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. At the same time, learn how to prepare healthy meals at home that have lean protein, whole grains and dairy products.

After making small changes in your appearance, you will notice feeling a higher sense of self-esteem. Other people will take notice of your new look too leading to more opportunities to socialize. Individuals who get to attend social functions tend to experience happier feelings.

Gift Your Child a Stronger Immunity

Gift Your Child a Stronger Immunity

“Children around the world are less fit than their parents were as kids”, screamed the headlines today early morning from a popular news blog I follow. November is such a magical time of the year but it also marks the beginning of winter, and along with it, malaria, dengue and multiple other diseases.

I know a ten-year old boy who ran faster than the speed of light. He was highly intelligent and need only be shown something once, if at all, to quickly process it and move to the next activity. He got bored easily and needed constant stimulation from new ideas and life experiences. It seemed as if he had the energy of the entire universe expanding inside him and needed to expend it into the world otherwise he might explode from the pressure. This is Dhanish, my nephew, who had just recovered from a bout of malaria in August.

His mother told me she was having problems coping with his not so healthy eating habits and was at her wits end. She said, “He has a very poor immune system, hates vegetables and roams around in the sun for hours at end. He is not going to able to live a healthy life if he doesn’t mend his ways. I just can’t deal with him anymore.”

Unfortunately, our modern solution is to “take him to a doctor or punish him till he stops loitering around on the streets and does what is right for his health,” These are quick and easy ways to cover up a symptom without getting to the root of the problem. That is, if there is a problem to begin with. Maybe the dysfunction lies not within the child, but in the eco system he is brought up in, the eco system which we’ve created for him. Just to give you an example, most medicines are not adequately tested on children. They are tested on adults, and doctors “estimate” the appropriate dose for children based on crude determinations such as their weight. This is shocking, to say the least, but anyways, this is how it is.

Our children’s environment is constantly challenging their lives.  They are bombarded with potential toxins everywhere. Overstimulation seems to rule the day; excess sugar and artificial additives keep them addicted to poor quality food while the excess assault on their senses keeps them addicted to poor quality media and violent videogames. But our preoccupation with toxic exposures can be toxic too, leaving us feeling like powerless victims of circumstances.

For parents with small children, often the trickiest part is learning how to keep their children disease free, while at the same time, not turning them into couch potatoes.

Some perspective

Children depend on their parents to protect them from danger, teach them how to survive, and feed and nourish them. With the sharp rise in kids being affected by diseases, it seems as if we are no longer protecting them, just throwing expensive toys, education and medical care at them, but not getting them fit for a long and healthy life.

Dhanisheats pretty much the same things that we do.  Three cheers for lots of teeth.  When I have a pizza, he has a pizza.  When I have rice and dal, he has rice and dal.  We still have to be careful about choking hazards, of course, and many things must still be boiled or sliced very thin so that he can safety chew the food.  But overall, his diet looks like a lot like mine.

Everyone wants their kids to eat healthy, right? We all want them to eat a ton of veggies, fruits and whole grains, and no sugar, artificial stuff or white foods. But how exactly do we achieve that? Well, we cannot. Your child will go to school, eat junk food, roam out in the sun, fight with other kids, and in the process, hurt himself (read cuts, bruises), breathe polluted air, eat synthetic foods, etc. It is after all, a part of growing up in today’s world.

Sorry state of child heath

We stand at a crossroads in medicine today, in the midst of declining quality of life in metros. I have become increasingly frustrated by an alarming trend of cases of viral fever, malaria, dengue, flu in children and find myself asking the reason.

Several reports have highlighted this phenomenon and they are worth mentioning here.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/11/20/246316731/kids-are-less-fit-today-than-you-were-back-then

http://www.hongkongcan.org/eng/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Legco_air-pllution-and-child-health.pdf
and the list goes on…………

It’s a fact. Kids today are sicker than they were a generation ago, and killers – pollution, lack of active lifestyle, pesticides and low intake of fresh foods are a part of the reason why. From childhood cancers to birth defects and asthma, a wide range of childhood diseases and disorders are on the rise, and public health experts tell us we have a “silent pandemic” of early disorders.  But these killers aren’t just affecting children, their impact is far-reaching, affecting all of us.  On average, we are exposed to pesticides, chemicals, everyday in our food, drink and of course, the air we breathe.

Scientists have understood for decades that children are particularly vulnerable to the harms of pesticide exposure. Quickly growing bodies take in more of everything; they eat, breathe and drink more, than adults. Trends and emerging data show that these harms are real and getting worse.
So what’s a parent, a caretaker or a concerned well-wisher to do?  Thankfully, there is a lot.

My solution

Every day, since the last two months, my goal was to fill Dhanish’s tummy with a variety of healthy foods.  It can be challenging to convince a toddler to eat fruits, veggies, milk and protein.
But here’s my secret. Follow these rules and make sure that your child is immune to whatever disease that is out there.

1. Kids Want to Eat Whatever You Eat

Kids have an insanely awesome truth radar. If you don’t really want to eat it, they won’t either. So the best way to get your kids to eat healthy is start to do it yourself. Start to love your veggies and they will, too. I was not a breakfast person. But it’s important that Dhanish sees me have breakfast every morning, so he wants to have it too.

2. Don’t let push come to stove

As HARD as it is, try not to force feed your kids, beg, bargain or bribe about food. I live for the phrase “it’s not what they eat in a day, it’s what they eat in a week” that matters.
Some days it’s 10 different veggies, some days not so much. Every book I read on parenting reminds me that food should not be a battleground and when you don’t push, you get better results.  I have certainly found it to be true.

3. The usual stuff

Lots of fluids
As close to nature (organic)
Lots of vegetables/salads
No processed foods (but don’t stop him from having them when his friends are around or they help themselves to junk foods, he will not take very kindly to that)
Lots of proteins

4. The most important of all……. – ‘Habit’

Because of their tiny tummies, babies don’t eat much. That’s why it’s important to make sure the foods they do eat contain lots of nutrients. (PS: I am definitely stepping onto the soapbox for this one.)

Did you know that much of a human’s brain growth occurs in the first few years of life?
In fact, there is so much rapid growth and cell division in the body that scientists believe infancy and the toddler years are the best window of opportunity to influence adult health. It’s called “metabolic programming,” the idea that the foods eaten in childhood can have long-lasting — even permanent — effects on how the body grows and functions and wards off disease.
Plus, good early habits can help prevent obesity, avoid allergies, optimize bone strength and height, maybe boost intelligence, and prevent childhood and adult cancers.

So, bottom line: Healthy eating in infancy is quite simply the cornerstone of a longer, healthier and happier life for Dhanish.

If there was one habit I would inculcate in every child of this country, it would be to have moderate quantities of Dabur Chyawanprash twice a day, with milk/bread/parathas/rotis/etc – for a disease free, immune country. Because make no mistake; what you feed your baby now will affect the rest of their lives. Moreover, your child will love the taste (after all, he has a variety of flavours to choose from) and you will have to worry less about his health. Dabur Chyawanprash claims 3 times more immune power, which I would certainly vouch for, after seeing Dhanish’s recovery and health. (check out www.daburchyawanprash.com to find out more about this interesting product).

These tips have helped me a bunch. Dhanish has gained 2 kilos in 3 months, recovered well, and is now much more lively, is more focussed on his studies and I believe has shown a marked increase in his immunity. He is now practicing to take part in his inter school swimming championship, which wouldn’t have been possible without Dabur Chyawanprash. I would love to hear from you about any tips you have as well.

Adopting a Mother like focus for your child

Adopting a Mother like focus for your child

My brother and sister-in-law were recently blessed with a beautiful girl child, now almost 5 months old. Infancy is the most tender stage of human life. Needless to say, special care during this period is essential. So, when infant care comes up as a topic, so many people become instantly intrigued about the right kind of baby care products for your child.

Right as we are done with the naming ceremony for the infant, we are faced with choices about the eco system within which our child will grow – more often than not, with toxic chemicals. We don’t realize that by taking it for granted that babies should be soothed with petroleum jelly and mineral oil, washed with chemical-based cleansers, fed from bottles made from complex plastic compounds, made to wear disposable diapers and surrounded by scented products, we are harming our children.

I accept the fact that parents act out of love, but how can they avoid the above choices and identify healthy alternatives when there are baby care products by the million out there, screaming for your attention from TV ads, lifestyle magazines and even recommended by “experts”?

Taking care of my niece has given me little experience of being a mother, and I always think about little things which will make a difference to my child’s life.

Keeping aside the XYZ v/s ABC brand debate aside, I seek to cover the broader debate of Ayurvedic (Read Organic/Natural) v/s Processed (Read Synthetic/Chemicals) debate, which apply not only to baby care but to every aspect of our life cycle.

One caveat: While I’ve learned, understood and read a lot on this subject, I do not claim to be an expert.

Whats the harm in using synthetic/processed baby oil products if chemical levels are below “acceptable levels”?

Sure, there is only small amounts of these chemicals in our baby products which are stated to be below the acceptable levels, but isn’t it possible that repeated exposure over a life-time can increase the risk for cancer?

Do you really want to take that chance? Sure, your child still faces a risk of contracting cancer from pollution, mobile phones and other things. But why do we need to expose his body to chemicals when his immune system is much weaker than as an adult?

Ayurveda is still unproven. Is it any good?

While there are endless debates about whether Ayurveda really is effective, all I would like to say is, we as human beings were wired to be close to nature. Most of the chemicals in synthetic products are very likely to be manmade and infant bodies are not engineered to absorb/digest/deal with them. On the other hand, Ayurvedic medicines have herbs, plants, etc as their ingredients and given their effectiveness and zero side effects, they are much more acceptable to a mother than a synthetic product. Plus, ayurvedic products have been shown in many cases to be much more effective than man made products.

Some facts and Jargon…

Your baby care products (even your everyday products like shampoo and soap) may contain some of these. Google this up like I did, and trust me, you will be very wary of buying synthetic products the next time around.

• 1,4-dioxane
• formaldehyde
• phthalates
• parabens
• BHA
• Oxybenzone
• Triclosan
• Boric acid
• Sodium borate
• Toluene
• Triethanolamine
• Dyes
• Methylchloroisothiazolinone
• Methylisothiazolinone
• Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate
• Benzyl alcohol
• Isopropyl alcohol
• Oxybenzone

Segment: Gyaan on Baby Oil…

Moreover, whilst there are several products in the market which claim to help your new born for his/her growth, ranging from creams to foods, I would want to focus my writing here on “baby oils”.

Why are baby Oils important?

Since your child’s skin is the largest organ, and it needs “proper nutrition” to function, you should be as careful (if not more) about what you apply to it as what your child eats.

Why use organic baby oils?

Children have roughly double the skin surface of adults and they also breathe more air in proportion to their body mass, which make them more susceptible to a “chemical attack” than you or me.

If you are not convinced, run a test yourself like I did.

Take any synthetic chemical based baby oil (Say XYZ) and an organic one (such as Dabur Lal Tail). Look up the list of ingredients and simply google the major ones to see which baby oil has the “most harmful ingredients within acceptable limits”. Trust me, you won’t be surprised with the answer.

Through this article, I have aimed to share my thoughts and open a doorway well worth exploring.

P.S: This post is a part of Dabur Lal Tail Indiblogger contest.

Not Another Story Of Love At First Height

Not Another Story Of Love At First Height
That’s how I would tell my story, atleast. I spotted him first – mostly because it was hard not to spot him, Hardik is Model tall, he is a little more than 6’3 and I am a little less than 5’4.All of these superficial markers are evident immediately upon meeting us. And that’s why I need to start the story of my “Platinum Day of Love” with the background. The plain simple “girl meets boy, boy and girl falls in love, boy and girl get married” is for describing my “Platinum Day of Love”. You people want details, don’t you?I had a list. All girls do. That never ending list that outlines what they’re looking for in a partner? But we will talk about this list later.

Today, he says that when he saw me, he knew he’d marry me, but I never knew that, until after quite some time of being with him when his persistence paid off.

It’s so much more fun than I ever thought it would be. Every single day I have fun with Hardik. And I laugh. I have so much respect for him and who he is as a person. He comes to life with such integrity and honesty. Neither of us like drama. But we’ve had a lot of different challenges and had to figure out how to navigate them together. Different cultures, different perspectives on life & career, different personalities, all those difficult situations.

January 2009

I was studying to become a Chartered Accountant. I used to regularly visit online CA students forums to update myself on what was happening in the profession.
There was this one guy, Hardik, his display picture was probably taken when in college, long hair, looked like a street thug to me.
Why do such people even enter this white collar profession, I wondered. There he was, showing off his aggressiveness and blunt thoughts in front of thousands of people on a forum, passing bold statements against governance, exam results, subjects and everything else.

June 2010

But then one day, on 14 June 2010, our paths did cross. Coincidence? I think not. Little did I know when I woke up that morning, that my life was about to be turned upside down. Truth be told, if I had registered for GMCS (that’s a 15 day program supposed to help CAs with their people skills) an hour late, Hardik and I would have never met. My life would be drastically different right now. Funny how the smallest little decisions and changes of course can alter the entire plot of your life.
We were together for the 3 weeks. We talked for hours daily and I came to realize that he has this special thing going for me. But I was not sure. I didn’t reciprocate his feelings but I didn’t even reject them. Guys always fear of losing a friend if the romantic part of things didn’t pan out. But the rewards for Hardik seemed far greater than the risks. And I, conveniently, enjoyed his company. I also learnt that he was a huge fan of Akshay Kumar and action films. My earlier views about him changed, and how.

We became pretty close by the end of those 3 weeks, even though the relationship till this point was purely platonic. Classmates teased us as if we were a couple, which I guess we actually were.

July 2010

Hardik had opted to give his exams in November 2010. People usually study for six months straight but Hardik came with us on a one day trek to Kaneri caves, situated inside National Park, about 1500 feet above sea level. He is like that, carefree, didn’t take life very seriously and didn’t believe in giving up six precious months of his life studying for just one exam.

We reached there right on time by 08 15 am. It was raining the day before, due to which the path got very very slippery. We had 15 minutes to relax before we trek walk our way up to the highest point along a kutcha road ridden with pebbles and potholes.

I had never seen such wonderful scenery in my life, and was truly awed by its majesty. No photo could ever do it justice. I stood there in silence, silently whispered to Hardik – I want to stand on top of the hill today and enjoy the view. Hardik promised me that I will.

The gates opened at 08 30 AM and we started with all enthusiasm. Slightly more than half way through and I tripped. My right leg was hurting terribly. Thankfully, there weren’t any major cuts, only bruises. But the damn leg wouldn’t stop paining. On careful inspection, we figured that it is a sprain. WTF, I wondered. I so wanted to get up there. And now, I guess I would be heading back home all alone while these guys carry on.

But I was wrong, Nothing – not even the profound miracle of nature – compared with the display of selflessness and love exhibited by this man.

He stood by his promise like a rock, and threatened that he too would go back and not complete this trek without me. Hesitantly, I limped while he held my hands and we walked together for 30 mins till we reached the spot. I loved the fact that he stood with me, encouraged me and set a fine example of being together in challenging times.

It was 11 30 by the time we reached the top and caught up with the others. I could limp a little. I went to one side when no one was looking, because I wanted to cry. I cried a lot that day, and not because of the pain in my foot. Hardik saw me crying. He didn’t try to stop me or console me or even ask me why I was. He just understood. And you’re down with a sprain and messed up. But there it is.
And then, in that moment, in the middle of nowhere, you just know. And maybe it’s not even close to the fairytale you imagined. He’s not at all handsome, and he doesn’t give you goose bumps, and he certainly doesn’t fit in the word “sexy”. Hardik was the opposite of everything I was attracted to in a man—but even that didn’t make him any less appealing. He is blunt, has this typical desi boy like personality to him.

Out of nowhere, he came, wrapped his arms around me from behind and just held me there as we stood. I can’t explain it, but it just felt good.  His hand ran through my hair, he held me onto him, my forehead resting perfectly onto his shoulder. He began to hym to me, softly and sweetly, the vibration from his throat lulling me to sleep. I closed my eyes for only a second, feeling his finger draw circles on my cheeks.

But I still wanted to fall in love like a princess, and Hardik seemed clueless about romance, till now. He never gave me any gift, no flowers, no surprises, no dinner, nothing.
Anyways, back to my broken leg. I managed to limp my way down and we finally made it till the National park gates. Now my place was 30 kms away. Hardik took me to a doctor who bandaged the sprain and assured me that it was nothing major.
Now for the second part, Hardik declared that he was going to drop me back home, on his bike. He rode 30 kms, already tired from the trek, braving the sporadic cold winds.
We reached home at around 15 30, and waved goodbye. No hugs, no kisses. Just a plain ‘Bye’ with a broken smile. The beauty of every moment we spent together had disappeared. Here is an insight into our minds or rather, hearts at that point, as we confessed later on to each other.

Hardik  – Phew. That was quite a day. I am wondering what she is thinking of me. Am I just another guy who tried to flirt with her?

Me – We could have talked. Why did he have to leave quickly once we reached.

Hardik – Probably I should text her later on. I don’t have the guts to call her. She will probably disconnect the call.

Me – I would give anything to know what’s going on in his mind right now. I don’t know why I did that?

Hardik – I was so happy with her.

Me – I will drop in a text saying thanks, just for courtesy and gratitude.

Hardik- I ll just call and ask if she got home safe. (Never mind that I dropped her right till the gates, lol)

He did call me and asked me out for dinner that very day. I was ecstatic. I said yes instantly.

Me – I think I love him.

Hardik – I love her.

So I had my first date. I wore my favourite top and and he turned up in blue denims and white shirt. As we talked, I realized he knew a lot about me, my interests. He was indeed stalking me, my social media account, or getting info from my girlfriends, but it was very sweet. He denies that he ever did any of it. Either he’s lying, or he is God. Either way, it was perfect. I was confused as to whether he will propose or not.

But things really did not go as I had envisioned. Bad food, spat with the waiter over some random thing we found in the orange juice. The meal wrapped up, and I was feeling anxious. I had a feeling he wouldn’t propose under these imperfect circumstances, but I wasn’t sure!

So when we left after dinner, Hardik suggested we take a walk. Ya right. A walk, I thought to myself.
In the middle of the walk, Hardik stopped. My heart skipped a beat, and before I knew it, he was saying something about loving me a whole lot and wanting to spend the rest of forever with me, et cetera, et cetera. Honestly, and sadly, I might add, I don’t remember his exact words. It was a crappy proposal. No flowers, gifts, surprises, candles, getting down on the knees. He believes himself to be a hardcore leo, probably doesn’t believe in getting down on his knees. Even though I expected this proposal, I was still in some sort of weird shock. I didn’t reply anything. I just smiled and said ok. There could be problems, at home, I still was not sure of whether he was “The One”.

That night, we ended up talking on the phone, till 6 am, the other day. It was past midnight. Finally both of us were sort of feeling it. It was 5 45 in the morning, here goes our goodbye conversation;

Me – I am feeling sleepy. Lets call it a day (night, I meant).
Hardik – Just like that.
Me – What do you mean?
Hardik – Where is my goodbye kiss?
Me – What are you talking about Hardik. Where did this come from? Are you kidding with me?
Hardik – Absolutely not. Give me a kiss baby, over the phone.

I didn’t give him a kiss that night.
I thought of him while I was sleeping, and I realized that He is the One. And those 24 hours ended – My “Platinum day of Love”

November 2013

When you’re young, and you watch a lot of movies, there’s this unfortunate glamorization of relationships. We inherit the false idea that love is all it takes to make a relationship work. I can tell you it takes a lot more.

I looked in the mirror and there was nothing romantic looking back at me.

He is patient and kind.
He loves desi food. I love to indulge myself wherever I go
He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
He speaks his mind and is an extrovert. I am shy and take a lot of time getting to know people.
He is responsible, always ready to take up responsibility for my well being, for OUR future.
I prefer only the top rated movies. He will watch any movie.
He never gets angry on me, always ready to understand and listen with an open mind.

It will be 4 years in July 2014, shortly after which we plan to get married. He has promised to gift me a platinum set of jewellery, to celebrate the day which changed everything.

Five Outfits for Babies this Autumn

Slugs and Snails or Sugar and Spice – Five Outfits for Babies this Autumn

Even if you’re not a lover of retail therapy, you have to admit that the baby section of any clothes store or supermarket pulls at the heart strings. The cute little outfits and pretty dresses are just adorable and when you have a newborn baby pop into your life, even if it’s not yours, you probably won’t be able to help yourself.

Perhaps a family member or your best friend is about to give birth, or maybe you’re pregnant yourself and you want to splash out a bit on your soon-to-be bundle of joy – whatever the circumstances, here are five awesome outfits for baby boys and girls this autumn.

Slugs and Snails – Five Outfits for Boys

As autumn approaches, a onesie would be ideal and with George’s range of kid’s character clothes, you can choose from a great range of options, including the Tiny Tatty Teddy Sleepsuit and Bib set that will look super cute on a little one.
Three piece sets are perfect for when baby is out and about and ideal for the autumn months when it’s a little colder outside. While these outfits may not be needed for a chill-out day at home, any new mum will love to show off her pride and joy and what better way than in an utterly scrumptious outfit?
Dungarees will always be a big hit for mums of little lads, especially during the autumnal season. You can pick up some great dungaree sets that come with matching long sleeve tops too. Plus, the poppers make changing time easy-peasy, without having to wrestle with buckles.
Something smart for those upcoming special occasions would be perfect – perhaps buy in the next size up, in time for Christmas parties?
This fabulous casual set, for £15, which includes top, bottoms and funky neon gilet would be perfect for a super cool little dude!

Sugar and Spice – Five Outfits for Girls

Pastel and neutral colours are perfect on a brand new baby girl and the heart print all in one with mock-capped sleeves would be ideal, for a bargain price of £6 – winner!
Dresses are perfect buys for any budding princess and with so many to choose from, it may take you a while to choose just one. From pastel pinks to bold and bright colours, opt for a dress that you know the parents will love.
Cute kids character clothes such as Minnie Mouse work wonderfully as motifs on baby girl outfits. Step away from the traditional pinks and opt, instead, for something bold, bright and beautiful, such as the Minnie & Maisie Pyjama Set, from George.
Wrap her up warm when she ventures outside, with three piece sets that incorporate cute padded gilets, perfect for the mild autumn climes.
Pinafore dresses with tights and a top that compliment eachother would make a little girl look super cute and pretty, such as the Rainbow Pinafore Set for £8 – ideal to brighten up a rainy day!

See that your money goes further with a trip to the clothing section of your local supermarket – you’ll be amazed at what great quality, superb value outfits you can find.

Costume for Halloween

Are you trying to make a Halloween costume based off of a movie or a TV show, and do you want to do what you can to make it believable? Are you tired of having costumes that look vaguely like what you were going for but that always leave people asking you what you are? If so, there are a few tips that will help you out this year. If you are going to be in a costume contest that comes with a cash prize, that you really want to win, make sure that you read through this first.

1. Study Your Source
Take the time to really study the person that you are trying to be. Watch a few episodes of the TV show or take the evening to watch the movie. Look up pictures of the person on the Internet and see what they are wearing most often. You need to pick something that everyone will associate with that character, so choosing an outfit that they only wear occasionally is not going to do it, even if you do a good job. It has to be the main outfit that you associate with that person or that character.

2. Get the Details Right
The key to a good costume is to get all of the details right. If the person wears glasses, are they round or square frames? Make sure that you get the right ones. If they have long hair, just how long is it? Can you grow yours out in time or do you need to get mens wigs at AdventHair.com so that you can really embrace the character? Do they wear any jewelry? What color are their eyes? Some of these details may seem too small to make a difference, but you will find that they make all of the difference in the world.

3. Make Your Costume in Advance
The number one reason that people have sub-par costumes is that they make them the night of the Halloween party. They just throw them together with whatever they have lying around. This is never a good idea. You are not going to do a good job if you do not leave yourself enough time to find the perfect pieces of the costume, not just ones that will do. Make your costume in advance so that you can put it together in a way that really makes you proud.
