How to Take a Flattering Photograph

How to take a flattering photograph (of the face)

Guest Post

Photograph’s allow us to look back on memories and serve as a time machine for the years’ to come. Often, when a photo isn’t that great of us, people describe themselves as extremely un-photogenic, however the truth is that the person taking your photograph most probably isn’t very good, or is in-experienced as to capture you at your most beautiful.

Today, then, we are going to offer a quick guide and ways in which you can take a flattering photograph of the face, as this is where most photograph complaints happen: red eye, eyes being closed, murky shadows, bags under the eyes – all of these things plus more serve to create a less than ideal photograph however with the right techniques, you can capture wonderful photographs.
Without further ado, then, let’s begin: how to take a flattering photograph of the face.

Smile!

How many people look dull as dishwater in a photograph? A lot, and it’s all because they fail to smile. A smile is a natural expression, and triggers something wonderful: it increases the amount of moisture produced in the eyes, and shapes them, perfect for a photograph. By smiling, you or your subject will look beautiful and completely natural also. This is also a part of relaxation, which leads me on to our second tip.

Get your subject to relax (or relax yourself)

This is the most important part to any photograph. Ideally, you want to capture people when they look their most natural, and for this you need them to relax. Models and actors regularly practice poses in the mirror, as well as expressions, so your subject or yourself should do the same. Try different smiles, take test photographs, and practice before you take that single perfect shot.

Fiddle your cameras settings

If you regularly use a smartphone to take photograph’s of yourself, you are treated to apps like Instagram and photo editing settings to make a photo better than it really is. For compact cameras, however, here are some do’s and don’ts: A flash can wash a subject’s face out hugely and whilst this may be great if you or your subject is spotty, it can serve to make you look like a ghost. As well as this, try to keep your camera still, so that blur does not occur. Ideally, use a small tripod.

An interesting background can make any photo much better

Any image can be edited after it has been taken to increase its exposure, add a filter or decrease saturation, however a background cannot be added, unless you are a Photoshop guru. For this reason an interesting background is a must, even if you are just taking a photograph of one’s face. A blank canvas may seem artsy or hip, however an interesting background, such as a beautiful landscape or well decorated room can transform a subject.

Shave or Crave

Shave or Crave

No, a beard is not sexy ! And it is just an excuse for those lazy men who keep it..and people feel they keep it coz it suits them..Abhishek Bacchan and John Abraham both have admitted to being too lazy to shave and hate that cold water and so are seen with stubble most of the times..

But this is the story of all guys ! No guy likes to shave..if not required in their office or asked by their girlfriends/wives and if they could live looking inhumanly, they would all roam around with that stone age look !!

And it pricks and hurts, and gives that lazy, untidy appearance..does’nt it ?

Some ideas on how you can make him crave to shave ? 😉

  • If a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, no yummy food and deserts, etc for him..make salads, soups and all the bland food and the food he hates.
  • Pester him again and again about the stubble.
  • Praise on how good and handsome he looks without the stubble.
  • We do wax, epilate, etc and bear all that pain..then ? Stop doing your waxing, etc too
  • You help him shave 😉
  • Gift him a good razor, dropping strong hints.
  • And if nothing works, the last would be ‘You know what !’..No coming near till he shaves..that stubble hurts !

Bridesmaids Dresses

Bridesmaids Dresses

There is one dress brides always concentrate on when getting married. The big one. Don’t let yourself forget the rest though, they are just as important!

One thing that I find is always talked about at weddings is the bridesmaids. Generally, you hear, “Don’t they look beautiful?” or “I love how they match the flowers!” but the one you want to hear is, “None of them are as pretty as the bride.” Sneaky as it may be, a good way to ensure you hear this is to thoroughly consider the dresses you want for them. Taking your colour scheme into account, something too bright will detract from yourself, as will something too short, too tight or too low cut.

In the past, the happiest bridesmaids I have known are those who have been able to keep their dresses for future use. Something like the vintage inspired Ivy dresses from Fever would tick all these boxes. They are graceful and flowing meaning eyes will gaze over them lightly and the ladies could easily wear them for another occasion in the future as the colours are all workable. A particular favourite of mine is the Ivy Dress Merlot.

You are probably wondering what other dresses I could possibly be talking about apart from your dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses. Well, if you have enough to spend and you haven’t gone too over budget, I’ve always thought that at this new starting point in your life, a partially new wardrobe would be a sweet little indulgent. With the honeymoon planned, when is there going to be a better opportunity to buy a few new dresses? I love the range Fever has to offer at the moment for all kinds of casual and special occasions.

The Hurlington Dress Apricot is fun and flirty with pleated neckline detail and a gorgeous vintage inspired bird print originally sourced from Milan. If you are unsure how well patterned fabrics suit you, perhaps something a little more plain such as the Tilly Dress which is available in Navy, Red, Burnt Orange or Mustard. The Tilly Dress has panels that aid fit and shape and has cute pockets on the front: perfect for doing away with your handbag when you’re just nipping down to the hotel bar on your honeymoon! 5 Things to Prepare For A Night Out With Friends

5 Things to Prepare For A Night Out With Friends

Guest Post

When it comes to a night out, for most girls the planning and preparation is half of the fun. So how do you ensure you’re all ready for the perfect night out?

1) Shopping for a new outfit

A night out with the girls offers the perfect excuse to go shopping for a new outfit. Looking for a new party dress and shoe combo is loads of fun, especially hunting for the perfect accessorise to create a new look. Take your friends along for an honest opinion.

Times are tight, so if you haven’t got the cash for a new outfit don’t worry, customising an existing one will do the trick just as well and often all it takes is a new belt or necklace to give your old favourite some extra sparkle.

Top tip: If you really can’t afford to buy a new outfit, then get your friends round and organise an outfit swapping session. You’ll be amazed at what borrowing a different top or some great accessories can do to your look. Plus, it’s completely free!

2) Taking a nice relaxing soak

A hot bath or shower is essential before a big night out. Feel clean and fabulous with a toasty bubble bath to soothe your feet, after all you’ll be doing a lot of dancing later. Remember to shave and moisturise if you’re wearing a skirt or dress, there’s nothing worse than forgetting to do so and only remembering about it when you’re out! Sit back with a glass of bubbly and take some time to relax, it’s going to be a great night.

Top tip: To really relax, create a chilled out playlist and have it on whilst you’re in the bath. Pure bliss!

3) Going to a beauty parlour

For a big night out its essential to have the right hair, nails and eyebrows. Getting yourself primped and gorgeous is loads of fun, go with your girlfriends and catch up on the latest gossip, or simply take a magazine along and enjoy some uninterrupted you time.

Looking after yourself will improve your confidence and make you feel radiant. Every girl deserves a treat from time to time, so if you’re feeling the need for some pampering head down to your nearest beauty parlour and indulge! While you’re there, why not opt for an additional treatment such as a massage too?

4) Make up and fashion consultations

Invite your friends over to get ready. Not only can they help you picking out the right outfit, but you can share makeup and nail varnish, and have a catch up while you’re getting ready. You might even opt for a fancy dress theme night, if you’re short of ideas try Disney characters, superheroes, or celebrities!

It’s much easier to do someone else’s make-up than your own so try learning a new technique on your friend, if it goes wrong it’s easy to amend, just make sure you’ve got some face wipes!

Top tip: As well as getting friends to help out with your make-up you can also get them to do your nails. We all know how hard it is to paint them with the wrong hand, but get your friends to help and you can have ten perfect nails with no problems

5) Pre-party drinks and music

By now you should be feeling fabulous. Before you go remember to crack open the bubbly while you’re waiting for the taxi to arrive. Stick on some tunes and get dancing. If you’re feeling in the mood for some fun bring out the karaoke or guitar hero. This is a great time to plan the forthcoming evening with your friends and work out which bars and clubs you’re going to. Finally, arrange a place to meet if you get separated and give your mobile a final charge!

Top tip: Don’t drink too much while you’re getting ready – you don’t want to ruin your night out before it’s even started! Limit yourself to a glass or two, and head out able to enjoy your evening to the max!

You’ve now done everything you can to prepare for a great night on the tiles. Now get your party shoes on and have a blast!

Kaya’s Skincare Guide for the Party Season

Kaya’s Skincare Guide for the Party Season

Come December and it’s time to begin preparations for the much awaited party season. You want to look your best but a few late nights, over-exertion, use of cosmetics and makeup, consumption of alcohol and unhealthy food can really take a toll on your health and skin.

Dr. Sangeeta Amladi – Head Medical Services at Kaya Skin Clinic shares some easy and quick tips to help you look your radiant best and be the envy of others all through the party season:

· Water is the best gift that nature has in store for you. For that soft, supple and glowing look keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water everyday

· Before applying makeup, make sure your skin is clean and exfoliated. Use a good, gentle exfoliator and rub it on the face in slow, circular motions. The circular motions will ensure good blood circulation and the exfoliating will remove dead skin cells, revealing a bright, new complexion. After you’ve exfoliated both face and body, moisturize from head to toe

· Vitamin C can do wonders to your skin, especially in the winters. Opt for facials that are rich in Vitamin C and include fruits like grapes, oranges, watermelons and berries in your daily diet. You could also try an instant hydrating mask, 2-3 days before the party.

· During the winter season, you might experience puffiness in your eyes. Splashing cold water in the eyes and the use of eye pads with cucumber, potato and green tea bags will help reduce the puffiness & make them look wonderful to flaunt your favorite eye make-up during the party season. You should apply these eye pads at least twice a day to get desired results. Use can also use Kaya’s Lighten & Smooth Under Eye Gel to make your eyes even more beautiful

· For the lips, use mild petroleum jelly every night so that your lips do not look flaky when you apply lipstick or gloss. During night time, the jelly will penetrate into your lips and work on the flaky skin throughout the night, giving you supple lips in the morning

· Remember to remove the makeup with a skin cleanser or wet wipes before going to sleep. You can use Kaya’s Hydra Cleanse Make Up Remover to gently remove dirt, excess oil and makeup, thus preventing breakouts the following day

· Soak a towel in ice cold water and press it to your face; this constricts blood vessels and there’s less fluid accumulation. Don’t forget to catch-up on some beauty sleep. Sleep boosts the immune system and your skin gets to regenerate

· For your hair, make sure to use a mild shampoo and a good conditioner. Avoid hot dryers and in case you use hairsprays, glitter and other hair products make sure to wash off all the chemicals from your hair completely

· For your skin, plan in advance and undergo services like skin polishing or hair reduction. If you plan to wear a dress that reveals your back, go for a back shine treatment a few days before the party. You can opt for Kaya’s Signature Back Therapy which is a complete service that includes back polishing, brightening using microdermabrasion and exfoliation

· At Kaya Skin Clinic, there are various services like fillers and BOTOX that can help enhance your features. You can also avail of the new Aqua Radiance service that will rejuvenate your skin with the goodness of water and air. The Jet Peel technology uses high energy supersonic flow and a micro-droplet spray to gently refresh and hydrate the skin. The glycolic peels used for “infusion” in the service are derived from the sugarcane extracts and penetrate the skin quickly and easily, allowing new skin to surface quicker.

T-Shirts, Jeans : Wildfox, J Brand, Hudson

T-Shirts, Jeans : Wildfox, J Brand, Hudson

Influenced by rock ‘n’ roll and Native American art work, Wildfox designs are creative and fun, with the capacity to dress down any other item of clothing for that sought after ‘easy casual’ look. The t-shirts for this season are less baggy and more weighted than last year, with the length of the shirt pulling the fabric into an almost waterfall effect, covering any bumps or lumps but still feeling light and airy. Colours such as light-blue and different variations of white and cream are all popular choices. Especially their motif t-shirts, such as the Young & In Love T-Shirt, with a pair of J Brand’s coloured super-skinny jeans would faultlessly bring out the brilliance of the white.

It is difficult to go wrong with J Brand, especially as they now have such a diverse collection and celebrities all over are wearing their jeans. In the last week alone, Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes and Kate Middleton have all been spotted in variously styled jeans from the designers. Their skinny jeans are available in many colours, such as Nude and Tangerine. And alongside their neon range, their skinny leggings are set to become more popular now that Vogue and Donna Ida have dubbed them as the must haves for this season. Also flares are once again appearing here and there with J Brand promoting their revival. Leather Leggings have remained just as popular as when they were first introduced.

New from Hudson are Tilda Cropped Jeans with an on-trend tie dye effect and releasable cuff. Available in Lucy in the Sky and Love Parade, this slim fitting cut will no doubt receive numerous respectable reviews from fashion lovers. Although it is likely that conflicting patterns will still be in fashion this summer, the bold blue and red available are not too patterned to clash with one of Wildfox’s t-shirts and it is easy to imagine that each item would complement the other suitably. Of course, there are many other Hudson jeans to choose from, with cuts including all the classics (bootcut, flare and straight) alongside a range of pastel coloured skinny jeans.

Use the right makeup products

The most important tip to look good for teenagers in a long run is to select right kind of products for makeup application. Teenager’s skin is subtle and soft; hence using any wrong makeup product could permanently damage their skin. Consider makeup products, which are made up of natural ingredients rather the ones using toxic chemicals. A majority of makeup products contains harmful chemicals; hence you are supposed to check the ingredients before buying them to apply over your skin. Though the chemical based makeup products could make you beautiful instantly, but they have a number of long term repercussions over your skin. They can damage as you reach in your thirties.

Your skin

Before your makeup, the skin has to be cleansed using a cleanser as per your skin type. After applying the cleaner, make sure you thoroughly wash your face and neck. Also, avoid rubbing too hard, rather do it gently in a circular motion and rinse properly followed by cleaning with dry and clean towel. Your makeup starts with a foundation. Though many teenagers do not need foundation, they can use a tinted moisturiser to even out the skin tone or simply cover the blemishes. While applying TM, make sure you do it with easy hand using a flat top kabuki brush or just sanitized fingers instead of trying the powder puff.

The eyes

For this, you need to start with your eye brows. Since they simply frame your entire face, hence you need to keep them neat. In order to give eye brows a right shape, make sure they are threaded properly according to your face shape. This will help you in keeping a perfect look using a pair of tweezers and mirror. Now, curl your eyelashes before you actually apply anything for your eye makeup. The eye make has several options; however, for teenagers it is fun to try some shimmery kinds of eye shadows as they will give a good look. The right way to apply them is to use a minimal quantity of eye shadow and properly blend over your eye crease and gradually build it up.

It is better to use eyeliner over the top lid very close to the lash line. This should follow the use of a cotton swab or try using a good eye shadow brush and then apply the color over your lashes. For the lower lashes, simply apply the dots of eyeliner in between the lashes followed by blending it properly.

For cheeks and lips

For cheeks, you could try some gel blush or any suitable cream. The Pinks are the best option for teenagers, while you could even try rosy pink for darker choice. All you need to do is to put the blush over the cheeks’ apples followed by blending properly. For the lips, the best option for teenagers is to try is a gloss as it gives you the best shine. Avoid using heavy lipsticks and the lip liners since they are too heavy for teenagers to try and could even give an older look.

Final word

During the teens, the girls simply want to look hot and beautiful. Using the above top tips, you could certainly enhance your beauty. However, if you still want to try something more, you could consult beauty professionals to look cool and beautiful. Enjoy being beautiful with the above top tips for teenagers.
