Kaya AntOx Vit-C Formula Serum Review

Kaya AntOx Vit-C Formula Serum Review

What the Company claims: It is a non-oily, easily absorbing anti-oxidants gel based on Vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to counteract free radicals responsible for premature skin ageing, protect the skin against environmental assault and delay the appearance of dark spot, fine lines and wrinkles and gives you softer, smoother skin.

How to use: It is a non-oily, easily absorbing anti-oxidants gel based on Vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to counteract free radicals responsible for premature skin ageing, protect the skin against environmental assault and delay the appearance of dark spot, fine lines and wrinkles and gives you softer, smoother skin.

Ingredients: Water, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Cellulose Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin

MRP: Rs.1790/- for 30ml

It comes in a small glass bottle pump packaging with a cap to cover that shuts perfectly tight..and had a seal at the start..for authenticity.

Its a transparent watery gel in texture..not too runny..and does’nt give any strong Vitamin C smell which is normally found in Vit C products..also it blends in well and is quiet light weight and non greasy.

But it does not moisturise and definitely need a separate moisturiser. And also what I noticed is, it sits on the face like a layer and does not get absorbed..and when you wash your face, you notice the slippery layer going away.

As far as the effect goes, I saw minor reduction and fading in 2-3 spots after continued usage. And cannot comment on lines or wrinkles coz I don’t have them. But there is not brightening as such.

Actually, Vitamin C serums have never worked that great on my skin..had the same experience with Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Concentrate..it did not do anything much for me..Instead Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate worked better for me..and skin was brighter and glowing whenever I used that..same with this..the Kaya Brightening Serum which I reviewed HERE worked great for me than this.

So, I would recommend this to people on whom Vitamin C works or may be try it out at the clinic first. For me, if I had to choose one, I would go with the Kaya Brightening Serum.

Pros:

1. Non greasy.
2. Light in texture.
3. Easy to use day or night.
4. Good pump packaging.
5. Continued usage helps in fading spots..and might help in wrinkles and lines too.

Cons:

1. Expensive.
2. Sits like a layer on the face.
3. Results were pretty ok.

Overall I would say its a nice serum and more suitable for people searching an anti-aging serum but who do not need an anti aging one..should go for the Brightening one.

Would I buy it again: I don’t think so..coz Vitamin C does’nt help my skin much.

Revlon ColorStay Eyeshadow Quad Seductive Review, Swatches

Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow Quad 530 Seductive Review, Swatches

What the Company claims: Silky smooth, blendable powder shadow that won’t crease fade or smudge.Wears up to 16 hours. Color coordinated quads provide expert mix and match ability for your most gorgeous eyes ever. Available in 16 beautiful quads. Ophthalmologist tested. Non-irritating.

EXPERT TIPS EYES
1. Dust highlighter all over eye and up to brow bone to create a base
2. Sweep lid shade on eyes from lash line to crease
3. Use accent shade on outer corners to create drama
4. Contour eyes by applying deepest shade in crease

MRP: Rs.730/- for 4.8g

Shades Available:
  • Decadent- Copper and golds
  • Seductive- Purples
  • Luscious- Greens
  • Goddess- Pinks and greys
  • Siren- Black and greys

There are only these 5 I can see available in India 🙁

They come in a normal quad packaging with a transparent see through lid..that helps identify one from other..and has a dual sided sponge tip applicator. The backside has instructions on how to use and which shade goes where.

There are mostly lilacs and purples in this quad.. 530 Seductive has one off white highlighter, a satin finish light lilac pink, a matte lilac blue and a satin finish deep purple. The deep purple is my favorite.

These are just one swipe each..so as you can see they are good at pigmentation and are super soft..they just kinda melt on touch..but one also has to be very careful..as they would break into pieces if fallen even once.

They stay on for a good 6-7 hours without a primer and more so with a primer. I liked the pigmentation, staying power and the shades..and very less options available in India in eyeshadows, so this is definitely a good bet.

Pros:

1. Nicely pigmented.
2. Soft and smooth in texture.
3. Stays well for a good amount of time.
4. Color combinations are pretty good.
5. Do not crease or fade easily.

Cons:

1. Only 5 quads available in India.
2. Little expensive.

Overall, I would say these are good to have. And some combos are pretty good. I really like Decadent too. Recommended !

Don’t they look gorgeous ? Californ.I.A has all 3 cream blushes and Pink Lemonade has 2 powder and one cream..

They have this regular black Sleek MakeUP packaging..and come with a mirror inside..all three individual shades inside have names too.

Pink Lemonade:

Icing Sugar : Cool toned pink with silver shimmer
Macaroon : Cool toned medium pink..quite creamy and wears good
Pink Mint : Medium rusty orange..fab shade !

Swatches- Unblended- Pink Mint, Macaroon, Icing Sugar (L-R)
Swatches- Blended- Pink Mint, Macaroon, Icing Sugar (L-R)
Californ.I.A :

Newport Peach: Medium Coral Pink
The Surf: Light Peach with gold shimmer..good for lighter skin tones
OC: Medium Coral Orange

Newport Peach, The Surf, OC (L-R)
The shades in Pink Lemonade are more suited for lighter skin tones..though Pink Mint looks great on our skin tones too. Icing Sugar is kind of ok..a little powdery too as you can see from the swatches.

The shades in Californ.I.A would suit medium skin tones..except The Surf..which is a light peach.

They have amazing pigmentation and a great wear time too..comes with a mirror..and cream blush I prefer using my hands to apply..only need a brush for the powder ones..

Coral lovers jump on Californ.I.A !

Both these are love at first sight..Highly recommend them.

Book Review: The Hunt for Kohinoor

Book Review: The Hunt for Kohinoor

About the book: The Hunt for Kohinoor’ is a spine-chilling ninety-six hour hunt through the world’s most dangerous terrain, where history collides with gunfire, for the elusive Kohinoor. Coming to your nearest bookstores this December 2013.

Manreet Sodhi Someshwar is the author of Earning the Laundry Stripes, The Long Walk Home, the national bestseller The Taj Conspiracy, and the thriller, The Hunt for Kohinoor.

Price : Rs. 295/-

It is a book about Mehrunissa Khosa – start to finish, and no one else. It is about how she is practically forced to help in the investigation, with grave risk to her own life and liberty, in a 96-hour long race that will determine the lives of hundreds, perhaps thousands – as well as the lives of her loved ones. It is a book of an innocent citizen getting caught in the biggest international hot-spot – India/Pakistan, and how she is brutally used to further national interest.

The first half of the book lays the plot and the background of the entire scenario with characterisation of the supporting characters. This is not wasted, as it has been well done – not too much detail, not too little; just enough detail to enable you to understand each character and his or her motives. Each characters reasons for behaving as they did has been clearly spelled out, which actually gives a deep understanding of the scenario, enhancing your reading pleasure.

The scenes literally play out in front of your eyes, so vivid is the description and so rich but simple is the language used. This is what the combination of deep characterisation and effective narrative has attained.

The story is gripping in nature but it gets a bit draggy at various places and I felt like skipping a couple of paragraphs and pages in between.

Overall sometimes I felt its dragged but otherwise its quite engaging..and I say, worth a try.

Have you read Manreet’s The Taj Conspiracy or The Hunt for Kohinoor ?

Sleek MakeUP Garden of Eden Palette Review, Swatches

Sleek MakeUP i-Divine Garden of Eden Palette Review, Swatches

I had mentioned about the Sleek MakeUP’s new Garden of Eden launch HERE.

I finally received this palette and the blushes..after a long wait ! And sadly, I also had to pay customs on it :/ 🙁 But anyways, coming back to the palette.

It comes in the normal Sleek MakeUP palette black packaging..and also with the regular mirror and a two sided sponge applicator..

RRP £7.99

The cover also had instructions behind on how to use the shades, this time.

Sleek MakeUP says: Enhance what Mother Nature gave you with the striking, beautiful colours of Sleek MakeUP’s new Garden of Edeni-Divine Palette.

An earthy, nature inspired palette that echoes the hues of a stunning tropical jungle with dusky purples, earthy browns and organic greens.

Garden of Eden i-Divine delivers the iconic 12high pigmented eye shadows associated with Sleek MakeUP once again, with shades such as Paradise On Earth, Eve’s Kiss and Gates Of Eden. Each fresh, vibrant shade stays true from day to night and blends together beautifully to create any look you desire from soft and subtle, to dazzling and dramatic, suited to all skin tones. This is a beautiful palette made up of an array of earthy, nature inspired hues that echo a stunning tropical jungle with dusky purples, earthy browns and organic greens.

The swatches are all one swipe.

Shades are :

Gates of Eden : Warm Coppery orange gold
Eve’s Kiss : Metallic lilac pink
Paradise on Earth : Warm taupe purple
Python : Again a deeper taupe brown
Forbidden : Matte grey with gold shimmer..but dry in texture..not that pigmented.
Flora : Matte brick reddish brown..again a little dry

Entwined : Matte Medium taupe brown with gold shimmer..little dry and chalky
Adam’s Apple : Matte light apple green
Fig : Light metallic green gold
Evergreen : Metallic mid green
Fauna : Metallic forest green
Tree of Life : Matte forest green

It has the perfect mix of neutrals and greens..and taupe lovers like me would love the taupes it offers..I am not a fan of green shadows as such..but sometimes the deeper forest green ones like Tree of Life make for a super sexy green smokey eye !

Pigmentation wise, as usual the metallic ones were amazingly pigmented..but the matte ones were drier and needed layering..With a primer, these stay for 8-9 hours.

Overall, I would say if you love greens and taupes, then this palette is specially made for you 😀 But its a good mix of neutrals and brights. Recommended.

It launched on 15th Jan..and is available on sleekmakeup.com and Superdrug stores..

Tips and Toes Hydra Rich Lipstick Plum Blast Review, Swatches

Tips and Toes Hydra Rich Lipstick 14 Plum Blast Review, Swatches

Guest Post by Dev

Hello Everyone,

I always associate Tips and Toes with the inexpensive nail polishes that line the local beauty store counters. So when Tips and Toes came up with their makeup products, I didn’t pay much attention. Then I saw Bhumika’s post on their Press release for the new Hydra Rich lipstick; the idea of selecting a lipstick by sun-sign seemed fun but I didn’t consider buying it as I was in love with Colorbar Velvet Mattes then.

However, my opinion changed when I was checking out some lipsticks at the beauty counter at Saravana stores in Chennai [T Nagar branch] and came across this beauty. I was looking for some hydrating lipsticks to carry on my trip to Toronto, as I’d heard that fall & winter was pretty harsh there. I swatched some shades and was hugely impressed by how creamy it felt and got this shade as berry shades as my safe bet.

About Tips and Toes Hydra Rich lipstick:
Price- INR 350. Available in 14 shades.

Packaging: Black plastic casing with the labels in shiny pink – looks pretty. On the down side, there is no way of identifying the color inside without opening the case.
Brand promises: Creamy lipstick with moisturizing effect [the rest looked like marketing jazz]

My experience:

This is one of the creamiest lipsticks I have tried and also one of the best shades for Fall season.  The color applies beautifully and in semi-intensity in a single swipe, which is awesome as it allows the color to be built or left sheerer. I tried this either ways and loved both looks.
On full color, this comes off as a purple-toned wine red shade with a purple sheen. If applied sheer, it shows as a more purple-pink shade.  This color would suit most skin tones especially warmer dusky skin tones of us Indian ladies.

However, this is not a lipstick you can wear with a light makeup; this kinda demands a perfect face to go with, to give a classy look. Also I would suggest a neutral eye makeup and bronzer-highlighter combination to go with this color. This would be a great shade for evening wear as well.

There is no harsh scent or taste; however this does not stay very long, averages around 2-3 hours for me. It does leave a nice tint though, but if you like long wearing lipsticks, this may not be one for you.

Pros:
1. Creamy finish
2. Moisturizing – can avoid lip balms  [not in Winter though & not if too dry skinned]
3. Good pigmentation and buildable color
4. Shade would suit most skin tones

Cons:
1. Availability – I don’t know where this is available as Tips and Toes don’t have an online store
2. Price- it seems a bit unexpected to see an INR 350-tagged product for Tips and Toes
3. Average staying power – not a con for me as I don’t mind reapplying.

Overall: I would definitely like to buy another deeper shade, may be the red one, especially if I can get them on sale.

About Dev: Dev is a Canada based beauty blogger..and blogs at http://thatmakeuplady.blogspot.in/Do check out her blog for US based brands’ reviews..she has lots of them…

Editor’s Note:  Thats indeed a fab shade Dev..and I agree perfect for fall.

Kryolan Lip Stain Review, Swatches

Kryolan Lip Stain Dance Review, Swatches

What the Company claims: Kryolan Lip Stain, complete with applicator brush, has been specifically developed by chemists in Kryolan’s labs to offer powerful water resistance, and endure the longest, most rigorous wear – whilst being smooth to apply and comfortable to wear. It also contains UV-B filters, so ideal for long-lasting outdoor wear or photoshoots.

Lip Stain is a matt, color-intense, long-lasting and smudge-proof lip fluid. For easy removal use Kryolan Eye Make-up Remover.

MRP: Rs.1000/- for 4ml

Ingredients:

Shades Available: See Swatches HERE

It comes in a slender lip gloss like tube..and a similar applicator..but its not a lip gloss or a thin water based stain..its more like a lip cream..which settles like a matte lipstick.

Their finish is compared to Lime Crime’s famous Velvetines by many..

Its non sticky..completely matte..and stays put forever..

Ya if you have dry lips like mine, it would accentuate them..but then all matte stuff do that..don’t they..one suggestion would be too use a lip primer..to lessen the appearance of lines..I have the Too Faced Lip Insurance..though I have’nt used it here..wanted to show you this as it is.. (actually I am too lazy to find stuff :p )

Its indeed long lasting and smudge proof as claimed..stays for around 6-7 hours…and then starts fading..

Comes in 8 shades..and all are gorgeous ! Highly recommend the Rock for brides !! Check out all the swatches HERE.

Dance is a mauve pink shade..

Here is it on me..

Pros:

1. Long staying and smudge proof.
2. Easy to use.
3. Crazily pigmented..you dont need lots.
4. Matte finish.
5. Lime Crime Velvetines Dupe 😀
6. Nice mix of shades..a nude, peach, brown, red, mauve, fuchsia..

Cons:

1. Little expensive.
2. Not easily available.

Overall I would say these are just perfect lip stains..and can be indeed called lip stains..stay on for a long time..and gives a nice matte finish..matte lovers buy all ! :p Highly recommend.

My favorites are Rock, Dance, Gospel and Pop !

Shades:  Ivory, Buff, Sand Beige, Nude, Natural Beige, Medium Beige, Fresh Beige, True Beige and Natural Tan

MRP: Rs.875/- for 30ml

It comes in a pump dispensor packaging now..so no fuss with the bottle. It has a black pump and is easy to use..only the quantity that comes out is a little too much.

Fresh Beige is slightly lighter for me..Natural Beige or Medium Beige would have worked better..and also I have a combination skin..and I am trying out the one meant for Normal/Dry skin 😀

The coverage is pretty good..its medium to high as you build up. I really liked the staying power..it stayed whole day..and very minimal powder touch up required. And also its transfer proof..does not transfer on tissues or on anyone’s clothes :p

The Normal/Dry skin one also needs a moisturiser beneath for winters..but in summers, this will work well..Combination/Oily formula might give a matte finish and coverage.

Here is my pic with only the foundation..no concealer or powder..

It photographs well..but if your flash is too bright, then you need to balance it with a powder having yellow tones..as it does have SPF 20.

For the price tag and qty and being high coverage..its one of the best foundations in the market right now.

Pros:

1. Comes in 9 shades..only drugstore foundation that has 9 shades in India.
2. Comes in 2 formulas..for dry and oily skin.
3. Convenient easy pump packaging.
4. Easily available at all counters.
5. Does not transfer.
6. Provides high coverage.
7. Stays put all day long with hardly any coverage required.
8. Economical for the quantity and coverage and the benefits.
9. Has SPF 20.

Cons:

1. Has silicones..but did not break me out.

Overall, I would say..this foundation is the first one in India that women can choose according to their skin type and perfect shade match (with 9 shades available). And its long staying and gives good coverage too and it feels super light. Highly recommended !

Kaya Brightening Serum Review

Kaya Intense Clarify HD Brightening Serum Review

What the Company claims: Brightening Serum by Kaya helps in reducing freckles and age spots, thereby giving you a luminous, healthy and even-toned complexion. This cutting-edge formula contains Ferulic acid and Waltheria indica extracts that target spots at every process of melanin formation and prevent future pigmentation.

It contains a potent active lightening complex known to even the skin tone, lighten freckles and age spots as well as helps to reduce hyper pigmented areas. Ferulic acid and waltheria indica extracts have a regulatory effect on melanin skin pigmentation. It is clinically tested to decrease pigmentation and brighten your skin.

How to use : Apply 2 to 3 drops to a thoroughly cleansed face and neck. Can be used before make-up.

Ingredients: Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Sodium Gluconate Sodium Hydroxide, Waltheria indica Leaf Extract, Ferulic Acis, Methylparaben

Priced at Rs.1490/- for 30ml

I have been using this Kaya Brightening Serum from more than a month..and how does it fare..lets find out..

This serum comes in a thick white glass bottle with a steel colored plastic cap which has a dropper to get the perfect quantity you need…I like the packaging..but since it is glass, I am always afraid it will drop and break :/

Coming to the texture of this serum, it is plain and colorless like water. And very very light in texture..it gets absorbed in a jiffy..and no oiliness or any serum applied feeling.

It can be used both day and night..I use it more religiously as a part of night routine..and the next morning, I see a brighter glowing skin with less redness or unevenness and if one has acne marks or spots..even those would reduce..and the change is quite visible each and everyday….within a week you see and feel a difference in your skin.

Now I also take a break in between to see if the effects of a certain product are temporary..and yes, when I stopped using it, not that skin started looking dull immediately or something like that..but the brightness I used to get using this serum…slowly reduced and skin went back to looking the normal.

But I love the effects of it..not that they dont stay long..but ya I cannot even expect a product I use for a month to give me lifetime brightness and glow 😀

I dont mind using it regularly..since it is giving me a brighter, beautiful, glowing skin..and I guess no girl would :p

Pros:

1. Very light in texture.
2. Non greasy or oily.
3. Gets easily absorbed.
4. Brightens the skin.
5. Less redness and unevenness in skin..and marks fade faster.
6. Since you need only 2-3 drops, 30 ml would stay a long time.

Cons:

1. Available at Kaya stores or online.
2. Glass bottle..I am always scared it would break..I would not travel with it :/

Overall, I would say, go for it baby !! This thing works..I lovee it..

I dont mind using it regularly..since it is giving me a brighter, beautiful, glowing skin..and I guess no girl would :p

And would work for all skin tones. Highly recommended !
