5 Times International Celebs Wore Sarees in India and Floored Us All!

5 Times International Celebs Wore Sarees in India and Floored Us All!

From #iwearhandloom to #100sareepact and #protestsaree, a saree has come a long way and is definitely not at all sorry! Saree has come a long way. Not just Indian, but international celebrities too have put the saree on a pedestal. Be it for a saree as a symbol of diversity on international borders or an all-inclusive customary attempt to honour and compliment Indian traditions on a maiden voyage. A saree has arrived on the world stage and how! The world has opened up to the Indian traditional outfit and here we bring you 5-sightings of international celebrities in a saree!

Sophie Trudeau

The Canadian family won hearts and accolades for its down to earth manners and transparency on its India trip. While all of them looked amazing in Indian attire but it was Sophie who looked so graceful and elegant in a pearl white south Indian saree. She pulled the look of ethnic diva effortlessly and looked unbelievably charming.

Serena and Venus Williams

These ladies can kick some serious ass on a tennis court. Though, here you can take some lessons on how bad styling can ruin your looks even if you are a celebrity of an international repute. That velvet-y blouse is downright tacky and a big no. However, on other occasions, we know that this power duo knows how to rock a dress or two. This one certainly is going down in the fashion books as a disaster that could have been averted with little attention.

Oprah

Besides, learning a trick or two of draping a saree from Aishwarya Rai at her own show, she wears an Indian handloom saree when she is in the country. Though, it will be delightful to see her in a handloom saree made by local craftsman and artists than a designer’s.

Stacy Jacobs

It is often seen that international celebrities wear sarees as an honorary act and we would certainly like that to change! Not many of us know Stacy Jacobs. She is one woman who is single- handedly leading protests against the Trump government for the border along the Mexican border. She doesn’t hold any banners and believes that borders look beautiful only on sarees. Her stint with sarees started during her India visit in 2015. She deducted sarees has one impossibly beautiful outfit. She wears handloom sarees woven by tribes and local artisans in India.

Kim Kardashian

It was so refreshing to see Kim Kardashian in a saree. She brought her signature oomph and sensuality to the six-yard stunner. The sequins and shimmers look ethereal on her. She keeps accessories minimal to draw attention to her sculpted jawline and collar bones. The pleats on pallu are folded for a stylised look.

These beautiful and prominent international celebrities are wearing sarees and marking India’s presence on a global map. What’s your excuse for not wearing a saree to your office and rock it just like they do?

7 Bollywood Actresses Who Nail The Saree Look

7 Bollywood Actresses Who Nail The Saree Look

By Nidhal

9 yards is all what it takes to raise your glam quotient by leaps and bounds. Swaddled in the 9 yards of a saree, there would hardly be any Indian lady who would not look resplendent! Given our proclivity for Bollywood actresses and their sense of fashion, why not take a sneak peek into the look book of some of our Tinsel Town ladies who take the gorgeousness of a saree to an altogether different height!

1. DEEPIKA PADUKONE- The darling of the masses whose body gives one major ‘Body Goals’ seems to have the perfect body for a saree. Curves? Check. Built? Check. And that dimpled smile… Melt! Seen here is Deepika swaddled in a traditional Kanjeevaram silk saree which accentuates her enviable frame impeccably. The gajra made up of jasmine flowers is the much-needed finishing touch, isn’t it?

2. SONAM KAPOOR- Touted as the ‘fashionista’ of Tinsel Town, there was no way Sonam couldn’t make an appearance on this list. She’s arrived and how! Keeping the makeup aside for a minute which anyway looks impeccable, she is seen here swaddled in an Anamika Khanna outfit that’s subtle but sizzling. The USP for me is the blouse which highlights one’s back in a way that will leave one drooling. Revealing yet not risqué.

3. KAREENA KAPOOR KHAN- Fondly called the ‘Begum’, Kareena Kapoor Khan compels you to turn back and take a second look with this revealing black saree that she swaddled herself in in the title track of her movie- Heroine. The saree is as simple as it can get but what catches the eyes is the subtle silver kamar-bandh and the pink-bordered bikini blouse that sets temperatures soaring. Not everyone can carry off such a saree. Well, Kareena surely can!

4. KATRINA KAIF- She looks angelic. Period. But when she wears a saree, all you want to do is take her to your mom (of course, boys are being referred to here). Seen here is Katrina Kaif swaddled in a cream-meets- beige coloured heavily embellished saree that is aptly teamed up with a red blouse that adds that much-wanted need of glamour. This was during one of the promotional episodes of her then, impending movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ on the reality show- India’s Got Talent.

5. ANUSHKA SHARMA- And finally both the leading ladies of JTHJ make an appearance on the list. The effervescent livewire Anushka Sharma was seen iin the same episode on the show swaddled in a royal blue Manish Malhotra saree with an ornate border that balances the look.

6. VIDYA BALAN- Vidya ‘Oh La La’ Balan proves that you do not need to be a certain body type to wear a saree. Her body type, is by far the most accurate representation of what an average Indian lady’s. She has donned a saree on multiple occasions and does so in absolute panache. Ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is responsible for the makeover to a great extent and seen here are two where Vidya glows in the yellow cotton saree with a laced border. There is a very minute pink border that looks in perfect harmony with the colour and border. Understated we say, Vidya! And you look gorgeous.

7. AISHWARYA RAI BACHCHAN- Miss World 1994 is one sure-shot head-turner and for all the right reasons. Arguably the most easily recalled Bollywood face on the red carpet of Cannes, Aishwarya treats our eyes to this green Sabyasachi saree when she arrived for the premiere of her flick ‘Raavan’ in London. The hairdo? Looks elegant to say the least.

World Ethnic Day by Craftsvilla.com

World Ethnic Day by Craftsvilla.com

About the World Ethnic Day: World Ethnic Day is a day to celebrate the cultures of different countries together on a single day. In the digital world, “World is One” yet we all carry different identities represented by what we wear, eat, believe and celebrate. Lets come together and celebrate our diversity as “One World”. World Ethnic Day is a day of fun, dance, music, food and party in ethnic way. Lets go back to our roots and share with others our uniqueness. Lets be One. Lets be Ethnic.

Every country and culture has its own ethnicity and uniqueness. When it comes to India, its all colorful, pretty and larger than life, coz it is again not just one culture, but a mix of so many different cultures in one country. We have such diverse cultures but yet have some common nuances.

If we talk about a saree, most of the cultures in India have a saree but each have a different type, work, style of wearing or calling it. There is a Bengali way and a Gujurati way of wearing a saree. Then we have a Maharastrian navari, South Indian Kanjeevaram sarees, Banarasi Brocade sarees, etc.

It’s more of lehengas in the Northern India.

And these days, we all love our kurtis, churidars and salwars, and of course everyone’s favourite anarkali. It is easy and convenient to wear and be around with these and yet gives an ethnic and traditional touch and feel.

Not only clothing, we have diverse arts and crafts too. We have minakari and marble work, gemstones, tie and dye, crochet, wooden and brass handicrafts, block prints, chikankari, clay and pottery, etc.

Craftsvilla.com is celebrating 19th June as ‘World Ethnic Day’. I love the site and the amazing ethnic and traditional items it stocks, also I am happy that a website is actually celebrating Ethnic Day and it anyway helps a lot of local artisans to sell the products on Craftsvilla and gives them an easy, global platform. A nice way for the local people to reach globally and also gives them a new source of income.

Vidya Balan is the brand ambassador for World Ethnic Day and rightly so, she was the first in Bollywood of late to have adopted the saree trend and she wears all the traditional kanjeevarams, from her own wedding to award functions to the Cannes Film Festival, she took the Indian ethnic nine yards everywhere.

“By celebrating World Ethnic Day, we get an opportunity to go back to our roots. I feel strongly about the dying art of handlooms in the country, and also about the plight of artisans who are struggling for livelihood. I am delighted with the opportunity to spread awareness about it,” Vidya said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to have Vidya Balan endorse World Ethnic Day. There is tremendous synergy between her vision and ours. Vidya is a living ambassador for everyday ethnic. Her remarkable success and body of work stand testimony to ethnic is cool,” said Manoj Gupta, founder of Craftsvilla.com.

What do you think of the World Ethnic Day?

Saree.com- For all your Ethnic Wear Needs

Saree.com- For all your Ethnic Wear Needs

About Saree.com: Saree.com is a one stop shop for women’s ethnic and lifestyle needs. They aim to offer you most genuine and adorable garments for all the occasions.

When I was searching for ethnic wear for my wedding trousseau a few months back, very few sites online interested me. I liked Triveni Sarees and 1-2 other, but not many options were availble. Recently I stumbled upon Saree.com and I am hooked on to the site!

They stock everything from anarkalis to designer sarees to lehengas and even evening gowns! Evening gowns was something I could not find anywhere and I was searching them desperately for my cocktail. I wish I would have known Saree.com before 🙁

Some of my favourites from the site are:

1. Pink And Dark Cream Net Lehenga Saree With Stone Work

This costs Rs.2995/-! Beat that. Looks so pretty, love the colour combination and the work.

2. Cream Net Gown

Love love the gold and red embroidery and the mesh at the waist and back. Of course the long layered tulle on the lower half too.

3. Pink Net Lehenga Choli With Zari Work

This costs just Rs.2395/-, unbelievable right! Also you can get it stitched the way you want, a shorter choli if you want to show your lehenga or like a longer salwar which is quite IN these days.

4. Yellow,Beige and Pink Bemberg Saree With Embroidery Work

Ok, I love yellow in ethnic wear and especially yellow and pink combination. I think it looks fabulous, and this saree is a perfect blend of colors and the embroidery work on it looks really pretty.

Aren’t these pieces amazing, and there are many many more. You will be spoilt for choice 😀 Absolutely loved the collection on saree.com and definitely shopping here the next time I need to buy ethnic wear. Highly recommended.

The Mumbai Bride Diaries: 3 Months to Go!

The Mumbai Bride Diaries: 3 Months to Go!

Hey guys,

If you are new to my blog, check out all the bridal diaries posts and updates HERE.

I wanted to update you all with a 4 months remaining post and what all I am done with, from the things which were pending in my 6 months post HERE, but I have no idea where time is flying! Like literally flying.

So ya, exactly 3 months to go now. I still can’t believe it!

Things Done from the ‘things I had to do’ mentioned in the 6 months post 😀

  • Done with most of my trousseau shopping. Rushing to the tailors and all these days.
  • Got my gharchoda from Khatri and panetar i.e the wedding sarees. Yes, we need to wear two together.
  • Nothing on the weight front yet :/ God, I just have 3 months and I have’nt started with anything yet.
  • Done with the honeymoon bookings
  • Done with the photographer and videographer bookings
  • Bangles and Dupatta are pending. I got the white chooda part though.
  • Got a nice sela with paithani work from Ratanshi Kheraj. The entire work comes on the front when the saree is worn Gujurati style.
  • Yet to find a nice gown for the DJ
  • Done with the gold and diamond jewellery shopping too.

I buy my diamonds from Manubhai Jewellers in Mumbai. I think they are the best in Mumbai when it comes to diamonds and the designs they have are more than any other store in Mumbai.

In addition, I got some nice golden leg thongs (the one which are tied up like anklets but connect to the second toe like haathphool) and a pretty rose gold clutch from the World Trade Center exhibition. I am planning to wear the leg thongs during the wedding. Also, I got nice gold Inc.5 weddingey shoes.

Also bought sarees and dresses and few dresses from the boy’s side too. Few are semi stitched, so have to get them stitched. Got one white and pink pretty chaniya choli. Even that was semi stitched, have already given that for stitching.

Next week, going to Gaurang, the famous guy who designs and stitches designer blouses for gharchoda since I don’t know how many years. (Pink Lady in Ghatkopar) I have heard a lot about him. I would be getting my morning mandva sela and gharchoda blouse designed by him.

I stocked on some basic lingerie during the Marks & Spencer sale. Have to get a few more things. You must have seen the bikini and chemise I got HERE. Also have some stuff from La Senza (Love this blue one from the Show Off Collection..my first La Senza :p ). Planning to buy a few more things like a multi way bra, pasties, etc.,you know how the backless and deep back cholis, etc are.

I know I have to do a bridal makeup artists and photographers in Mumbai post since a long time. I will definitely do it, caught up with a lot of things right now.

Also, yours truly is nominated for the ELLE Beauty Awards Blogger of the Year 2014. Our first challenge was a braided look. If you can please spare a second to vote me HERE, I did be thankful 🙂

Indo-Western Wear – Trends to Follow!

Indo-Western Wear – Trends to Follow!

When ethnic meets contemporary, it always offers a beautiful integration of two diverse worlds. This blend has much more to offer if we take a decent look at trends in indo-western wear in apparel industry. Quite a buzzword that has become, this trend is being ardently admired by fashion lovers globally.

The quintessential Indo-Western fusion carries many faces and offers a distinctive style to most of the traditional outfits. Whether it is about donning a traditional indian kurtis with a skirt or styling Indian saree with a contemporary twist, this synchronization resonates well with people who love to unleash their creativity and experiment with different styles.

Indian designers follow indo-western trends to a great extent and make beautiful outfits to suit different occasions. They have transformed the traditional outfits such as salwar kameez , saree and lehenga and re-invented them with most flattering styles. Their creativity in mixing up traditional and contemporary has coined innovative styles that can easily be fallen in love with.

Being inspired by many such styles, Indian women are not left behind in making fashion statement. They easily carry salwaar with a chic- looking top, pair a kurti with denim, drape saree in the most contemporary style that almost looks like a sophisticated evening dress or don an unusual yet classic combination of blouse and dhoti together.  Among many of these inimitable ensembles, Indo western gown too is making highlights by being one of the most preferred dresses for varied festive occasions. This full-length western gown can be embellished with Indian motif, embroidery patterns and fabrics and is ready to demand much needed attention from women across the globe.

Well, there seems to be no end to these indo-western creative combinations, as long as one has a knack of experimenting with bold looking styles; and ready to explore much more from the fashion secrets.
