The Nature’s Co. Red and Green Tea Sunscreen Lotion Review
What the Company claims: You can bravely face the sun with this all-natural sun protector. Red Tea will shield your skin from harsh UV rays while providing you with essential moisturizing and conditioning while Green Tea has powder anti-oxidants properties.
Massage gently onto your face, neck, hands and other exposed parts of body at least 30 minutes before going out into sun.
MRP: Rs.375/- for 125ml
Ingredients: Ingredients: Red tea extract, Green tea extract, Olive oil, Vitamin – E, Aloe Vera extract, Sesame oil, Grape seed oil
It falls under the Starrize Collection. It comes in a fat tube packaging like all The Nature’s Co. Products.
Has a strong green/red tea smell..I am not a fan :/ Its light yellow in color and has a medium consistency..not too runny like a lotion..takes some time to absorb.
Its a nice natural sunscreen without the added chemicals..coz for higher sun protection, there are loads of chemicals in sunscreens from zinc oxide to what not..and the best thing is no white cast as in most of the sunscreens..but this does not have any SPF or PA mentioned sadly..so cannot say a fool proof way of protection from sun….but if you are someone who sweat out with sunscreen or do not like using one, you can try this..
Pros:
1. All Natural sunscreen without the chemicals.
2. No whitish cast.
3. Does not sweat out.
4. Tube packaging..easy to use.
5. Qty is good enough for the price.
Cons:
1. No SPF or PA protection mentioned.
2. Would not be safe for days when you are going to be under the sun for longer hours.
Overall I would say its a nice sunscreen for daily use..but not for long sun exposure..if you are someone who is used to a higher SPF sunscreen, you can skip this..but if you someone who do not like sunscreens or they sweat you out, you should surely try this..
Rating:
Quality: 3.5/5
Value for money: 3.5/5
Availability: 3.5/5
Overall Rating: 3.5/5
Would I buy it again : Maybe
Have you tried The Nature’s Co. Sunscreen Lotion ?
Lacto Calamine Sunshield: For Oily and Dry Skin
Lacto Calamine, a product from Piramal Enterprises’ Consumer Products Division, is one of the most tried and trusted products in the skin care category, makes an addition to its portfolio with its ‘Lacto Calamine Sunshield’. This new product comes with the proposition of a sunscreen suited to the consumers’ skin type, namely through two variants – for oily and dry skin.
Both the variants offer SPF 30 to protect skin from the sun’s harmful UV B Rays and PA++protection, which protects against UV A Rays that cause darkening and premature aging of the skin.
Two variants from Lacto Calamine Sunshield:
1. Lacto Calamine Sunshield for oily skin comes with the goodness of Lemon extracts, which is ideal for oily skin. The natural Lemon Extracts (SPF 30, PA++) evens out skin pigmentation, and helps control excess oil
2. Lacto Calamine Sunshield with Aloe Vera offers sun protection with moisturizing for dry skin. The natural Aloe Vera (SPF 30, PA++) moisturizes the skin, protects it and helps retain its glow
Both Variants of Lacto Calamine Sunshield are priced at Rs. 199 for a 50ml pack.
Have you tried the Lacto Calamine Sunshield ??
Importance of Sunscreen
Now we cannot be 100% safe and protected..but what we can do is atleast use a good broad spectrum sunscreen.
You may even skip a moisturiser, but never a sunscreen. One should use a sunscreen according to their skin types, like gel based for oily skin or a lotion or a thicker texture for dry skin.
Some believe we do not need a sunscreen when indoors..even though we are indoors there are UVA rays passing through everything though in lesser amounts, be it your PC or laptop screens or tubelights or windows,etc..we should use a SPF 30 sunscreen atleast once a day even though indoors.
Sun blocks and sunscreens are used interchangeably..there is no such thing that can block sun rays..its just a way to market.
And lastly higher SPF does not denote more protection. SPF i.e Sun Protection Factor only denotes the time we can spend exposed to sun. Eg : If a person gets tanned in 10 minutes in the sun without sunscreen, SPF 30 would protect him for 30*10=300 minutes and SPF 50 for 50*10=500 minutes, after which he would need to reapply the sunscreen.
So never ever skip a sunscreen..cover up, wear your shades and lather up on the sunscreen before stepping out this summers..
Do you use sunscreen everyday ??

Evidence of Sun’s Aging Effect
I read this article..and I am myself spell bound..I knew sun ages..but was not aware of the extent..a must read..
To most people it’s a curiosity, something to laugh about with the kids: you spend a few hours a day driving and by mid-summer, your left hand and arm are shades darker than the right.
But as a new case presented in the New England Journal of Medicine shows, left-sided sun damage is no laughing matter. Over the years, that lopsided suntan and a few extra freckles can mutate into deep creases, sagging skin and a general look that’s far older than your true age—and, too often, a high risk of skin cancer.
What happened to this man’s face?
This man is a 69-year-old truck driver, making his living behind the wheel for the past 28 years. Half of his face looks normal for his age, but because he spent daytime hours with the sun to his left for nearly three decades, the left side of his face looks decades older.
The name for his condition is unilateral dermatoheliosis (one-sided photoaging). Driving with the sun beating down on his face and arm exposed the patient to damaging UVA rays for hours each day, just as if he had been lying on a beach with that skin exposed. Even with the window closed, UVA rays can penetrate window glass if not tinted enough to protect passengers inside the vehicle.
How dangerous is one-sided photoaging?
Sun worshippers pay a price for enjoying those drives in the sunshine, experts say. Researchers at the University of Washington studied cancer cases tracked by the U.S. government. Their findings, published in the American Academy of Dermatology, showed that when melanoma affected one side of a person’s body, it was on the left side—the driver’s side—52 percent of the time. Merkel cell cancers, another type of skin cancer, appeared on the left side in 53 percent of cases.
This isn’t the first evidence that motoring in the sun might be linked to skin cancer. A 2010 study of 1,047 skin cancer patients at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, published in the same journal, came to the same conclusion: in both men and women, more skin cancers were found on the left side of the body than the right. And in Australia, where people drive on the right-hand side of the road, drivers’ right arms and right sides of their faces get the sun exposure. A 1986 study found that a majority of precancerous growths among Australian men occurred on their right sides.
Does tinted glass protect us?
Tinting window glass does afford some protection; compared to untinted glass, it admits 3.8 percent fewer UVA rays. The most protective color is gray, which admits only 0.9 percent of UVA light, compared to 62.8 percent of UVA light admitted through clear glass. (UVB rays don’t penetrate glass to a dangerous degree.)
But tinted glass can pose visibility issues. “People who are considering tinting their windows should take their car to a professional auto detailing shop, in order to ensure that the tinting meets the federally mandated 70 percent of minimum visible light transmittance through the windshield,” advises the American Academy of Dermatology. Auto glass tinting can be regulated by state law, and professional detailers will be aware of those guidelines.
How to Get Rid of a Tan
Stay safe with these tips!
In 2010, more than 68,000 new cases of melanoma were diagnosed in the U.S., according to the National Cancer Institute, and some 8,700 people died from it. Those aren’t the best odds; skin cancer is deadly. But short of tinting the glass in your car’s side windows, there are plenty of ways to protect yourself against one-sided skin damage:
Cover up. Rip a sleeve off of an old shirt and keep it in the car’s glove compartment; when you’re wearing short sleeves or a tank top, slip it over your arm.
Wear sunscreen on your face, neck and left arm when you’re driving. Some experts advise people to wear a thick, visible layer of sunscreen, rather than rubbing it into the skin. While that may be unrealistic if you are dressed for business or a nice lunch, do apply some sunscreen to vulnerable areas.
SPF 30 is your best bet. Sunscreen labeled SPF 30 provides 97 percent protection sun damage. Buying SPF 50 products, which often are pricier, isn’t necessary.
Forget sunning for vitamin D. Unprotected sun exposure isn’t safe, period. Take a vitamin D supplement and use sunscreen every time you’re outside, even on a cloudy day.
Don’t forget your shades! Americans don’t protect their eyes very well: a recent study found that 66 percent of us leave our sunglasses behind when we go to the beach, pool or parks, even on sunny days. Yet 17 percent of us get a cataract in at least one eye. Sunglasses lower the risk of getting cataracts.
Read the label on your sunscreen. A new report from the Environmental Working Group found that only 25 percent of 800 sunscreens they tested contained no potentially harmful chemicals. Another 25 percent contained retinyl palmitate, a form of vitamin A that actually can increase your cancer risk. But 94 brands, including those manufactured by CVS, Walgreens, Aveeno and Banana Boat, were found to be safe.

Fun in the Sun- Enjoy the Summers
Ya I know you might think..how can one have fun in this scorching heat..and the skin would burn, tan and we would be dehydrated, etc
Sunshine, heat and humidity can harm the skin. Sun’s rays are particularly strong, so the chances of developing wrinkles, age spots, freckles, etc increase. And higher heat and humidity means more rashes, breakouts, and clogged pores.
Well fret not..we have Kyra on board..who knows exactly how to have fun in summers !
So here she is to share her summer secrets so that you and I can live it up this summer..
Sunscreens, Light water based moisturiser, Exfoliation scrubs and Hydration are a must during this season.
1) Hydration: Hydrating your skin is very crucial. Drink atleast 10-12 glasses of water and/or fresh juices. Eat leafy vegetables and fresh fruits.
2) Protection: Always carry an umbrella and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Use stylish scarves to cover your head and hair. Apply a sweat-proof sunscreen lotion with an appropriate SPF and which provides both UVA and UVB protection and PA++ or +++ and reapply as needed.. (a minimum of SPF 30 and SPF 50 for pools and beaches ). Sunscreen should be according to your skin type..i.e the one meant for oily skin or dry skin. Use a lip balm with an SPF.
3) Exfoliation : Exfoliating twice a week would help remove the impurities and dead skin cells collected but use a mild bearable exfoliator..after getting back home, apply cold yogurt on the face to remove tan. Here are some other useful tips helpful in getting rid of the tan. You can also use the Lakme Sun Expert After Sun Range..the after sun face wash, gel and mask would help soothe and cool the skin.
4) Light Make up: Skip the heavy liquid foundation for lighter mineral foundation with a minimum SPF of 15. Use a waterproof mascara and eye pencil..a bronzer where sun kisses the skin, for that amazing glow..and a dab of lip gloss.
5) Clothes: Wear loose fitting cotton clothes, lots of whites, floral summery dresses and bright colors, wear open toed sandals or flip flops.. nothing that would sweat your feet..and you can add bright colorful accessories for that added dash..
6) Night Regime: Cleanse the skin at night to remove all the makeup, dirt, grime and water proof sunscreen..and use a good hydrating, repairing night cream.
Some other tips shared at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012:
-
Sunscreen with high SPF
- Drink plenty of water
- Night cream
- Healthy diet
- Anti-oxidants, Vitamin C & Vitamin D supplements
- Protection with scarves, umbrella and sunglasses.
- Light neutral make up to let the skin breathe.
So, go on and enjoy this summer…play some volleyball with Kyra and relax at some exotic beach sipping on a cool drink 😉

Some myths about sunscreen:

P.S: Product sent by brand.
Lakme Sun Expert SPF 30 PA+ For Oily Skin Review
The SPF 30 comes in two types..one for oily skin is PA+ and other for normal to dry skin is PA++
And also the variants available for oily skin are three and that in dry skin are two..plus the price is also higher for normal to dry skin.
It claims to be light and non oily..it has that pinkish tint coz of the kaolin clay present in it..
Ingredients:
Pros:
1. Gets absorbed completely into the skin.
2. Does not leave skin oily or greasy.
3. Did not break me out.
4. Has a nice refreshing cucumber and lemongrass smell.
5. Gives that cooling effect to the skin.
6. Moisturising enough for oily skin.
7. Does not leave a whitish cast and is very easy to blend in unlike the SPF 50 one.
8. Easy to carry around the 20 g tube in case you are out and need to apply sunscreen every 2 hours.
Cons:
1. It provides SPF 30..which is good for daily use..but not for too much sun exposure.
2. It would not make your skin lighter or correct past blemishes.
3. Dry skin people would need a moisturiser underneath.
Rating:
Quality: 4/5
Value for money : 3.5/5
Availability: 4/5
Overall Rating: 3.75/5
Would I buy it again: Yes
I did like it overall…its quiet nice for oily skinned people…non greasy, no whitish cast and gets absorbed well and does not settle on skin.
P.S: Product sent by brand for review but it has not affected my opinion.
